Back to work(outs)

The Warriors, slightly groggy and mostly jet-lagged, were back in the Waterhouse weight room early this morning. The Warriors don’t have on-field practices on Mondays, but they do have weight-lifting and conditioning sessions, as well as meetings. The Warriors resume practicing tomorrow morning.

Warriors set for league play

After four weeks of non-conference games, the Warriors enter the phase that matters most: The Mountain West season. They are scheduled to return to Honolulu this afternoon after which they will learn who’s healthy and who’s not. The Warriors depart Thursday ahead of Saturday’s game against Boise State.

Game day: Wisconsin

After meetings, practices and brats, the Warriors are set to play 22nd-ranked Wisconsin today. One of the game-day traditions is the Warrior walk, with a twist: Co-captains Lance Williams, Max Wittek and Ben Clarke shake hands with each player, coach and staff member.

MIDDLETON, Wisc. — After a mere eight-hour direct flight from Honolulu, seven hours in an O’Hare hotel and a two-hour-plus bus ride, the Warriors arrived in Middleton. The Warriors had a 75-minute practice at an area high school before heading to a restaurant for a bratwurst dinner.

Travel day

The Warriors practiced for 85 minutes this morning, ate, attended meetings and then prepared for the afternoon’s non-stop flight to Chicago. The NCAA does not have a travel-roster limit for FBS games. The roster is capped at 68 for games between Mountain West Conference teams. Because of budget constraints, the Warriors’ travel roster is 66 for Saturday’s Wisconsin game. Henderson, Hittner will be missed

The Warriors yesterday announced what had been known for a week: Strong safety Trayvon Henderson (torn ACL) and long-snapper Brian Hittner (spinal bruise) will miss the rest of the season because of injuries. Both were hurt against Ohio State. And while the Warriors had found capable replacements — Daniel Lewis and Noah Borden, respectively — these are significant losses. Garcia-Williams wins MWC weekly award

Inside linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams answered all health concerns with a career-high 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops, in the 47-27 victory over UC Davis this past Saturday. Today, Garcia-Williams was named the Mountain West Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. Garcia-Williams missed all but two games last season after suffering a knee injury. He completed an extensive rehabilitation in the spring, then moved to inside linebacker in training camp.
