After a one-year hiatus, the Circle of Honor has opened its doors for a new class. A committee will select the inductees that will be introduced in February. “I want nine John Stocktons”

In building his nine-member coaching staff, Nick Rolovich has this goal: “I want nine John Stockons,” Rolovich said, referring to the NBA career leader in assists. “I want the assist leaders. I want them to help get the recruits.” Rolovich has been busy trying to finalize the hirings of the last three assistant coaches, including defensive coordinator, to his coaching staff. Volleyball Warriors open training camp

The volleyball Warriors hit the road — er, the air — to open training camp for the 2016 season. The Warriors are working out on Maui for three days. They play an exhibition against SportsConX in the Stan Sheriff Center next Monday. They open the season against King in the opening round of the three-day Outrigger Hotels Invitational on Jan. 7.

When he was UH’s offensive coordinator in 2011, Nick Rolovich bought a neon “Open” sign that he kept lit on his office sill. The light will be relit in Manoa today. After spending a few days celebrating the holidays with his wife and four kids on the mainland, Nick Rolovich is set to return to Hawaii today. The Warriors appear to be close to filling the three vacancies on the coaching staff, including defensive coordinator. There are procedural and administrative obstacles that need to be resolved before the selections are finalized. But all signs point to the Warriors exiting 2015 with a full coaching staff. Recruiting is in what is termed a “dead period” through Jan. 13, a stretch during which coaches are not permitted in-person contact with a recruit.

A reader told us about this recent incident: Outside a supermarket, a kid asked a man if he would like to buy a box of chocolate-covered almonds. “No,” the man said, pausing, then adding, “I want to buy three boxes.” The man paid for the boxes. But instead of accepting them, the man told the kid to give them away as a holiday gesture. The kid gave the boxes to three people passing by, wishing each a happy holiday season. […]

Warriors land “Dream” recruit

Eugene “The Dream” Ford, a defensive back from University High in Los Angeles, has accepted a scholarship offer from the Warriors. Ford played receiver and safety at University but is projected to play on defense at UH. He will sign a letter of intent on Feb. 3, the first day high school seniors may put their commitments in writing.
