Warriors land Portland prep receiver

By Stephen Tsai on September 21, 2016

Wideout Isaia Mullen of Portland’s Madison High told the Warrior Beat he has made a verbal commitment to play for the Warriors next year. Mullen, who is 6 feet 4 and 200 pounds, also was recruited by Washington, Washington State and Oregon State, according to Madison coach Don Johnson Jr. But Mullen has felt comfortable with UH since the coaching staff was formed in December. D-line coach Legi Suiaunoa had known about Mullen when he was a Montana assistant last […]

“Average Fan” helps Warriors

By Stephen Tsai on September 20, 2016

A few times a week, “Tom-warriornation” will post about offering tickets behind the UH bench for road games. And the casual reader is probably thinking, “spam,” but not in the musubi kind of way. But as many of us have learned, the poster is Tom Kitaguchi (1970 Lahainaluna High and ’75 UH grad), a four-year letter winner for the Rainbow Warrior tennis team. A self-styled “average fan” who lives on the mainland, Tom has organized group seating for UH fans […]

Search for tomorrow

One of the few good things about the past weekend’s road trip — coupled with the coming weekend’s bye — is eight assistant coaches were allowed to remain on the mainland to recruit. Head coach Nick Rolovich also was able to recruit during the Arizona trip. Because of the late kickoff on Saturday, Rolovich did recruiting work on Friday. The assistants are scheduled to return to Honolulu at various times on Wednesday. The Warriors’ next practice is scheduled for Thursday. […]

A good bye

By Stephen Tsai on September 18, 2016

The upcoming bye week comes at a good time for the Warriors, who will use the break to recruit and regroup. Instead of returning to Honolulu today, some of the coaches will recruit on the mainland. Head coach Nick Rolivich is giving the players a couple days off from football activities to catch up on school work — they already have missed 10 school days — and heal from aches.

Game day: Arizona

By Stephen Tsai on September 17, 2016

TUCSON — Because of the late kickoff (4:45 p.m. Arizona time), the Warriors are having meetings this morning that they usually would conduct on Friday night. They wrapped up their field work with a practice in Phoenix yesterday morning before making the 2-hour bus ride to Tucson. They were given freedom to sleep or walk around yesterday afternoon. After that, one of the six survivors from the USS Arizona addressed the team.

Heading to the Phoenix sun

By Stephen Tsai on September 15, 2016

The Warriors are scheduled to depart this afternoon on a non-stop flight to Phoenix. They will spend the night in Phoenix, conduct a light practice there tomorrow morning, then make the 2-hour drive to Tucson ahead of Saturday’s game. Temperatures are supposed to be in the mid-80s for the kickoff at 4:45 p.m. Hawaii time. The Warriors practiced for about 90 minutes this morning. They ended the regular session with the 2-minute drill. On the first play, Ikaika Woolsey and […]

White helmets are here to stay

By Stephen Tsai on September 14, 2016

For the rest of this season, the Warriors are expected to wear white helmets. The helmets actually are the refurbished helmets used for retro night. Here are some other answers to your questions: Maddog50: When will the streaming issue be resolved? Answer: Solutions are being pursued to a number of issues involving video streams of live UH pay-per-view telecasts. Although the situation has been worked on for a while, there is no timetable on when it will be resolved for […]
