Butler invited to Saints’ minicamp

Former Warrior defensive back Dejaun Butler has been invited to compete in the New Orleans Saints’ minicamp this weekend. Butler is set to arrive in NOLA today. He will compete as a defensive back and on special teams. Butler played corner, nickel and safety for the Warriors the past two seasons. Brown, Tavai will represent Warriors

Quarterback Dru Brown and middle linebacker Jahlani Tavai will represent the Warriors at the Mountain West Conference Media Days in July. The event, which will be held in Las Vegas, is the league’s biggest publicity blitz of the year. In his second year, Nick Rolovich has the third-most coaching experience in the West Division, behind San Diego State’s Rocky Long and UNLV’s Tony Sanchez. This is developing into a big week for former UH offensive lineman RJ Hollis. He has completed work on an on-line class needed to finish his studies in economics. He said he has received some feelers from the Canadian Football League. He also is set to compete in a CFL combine later this month. Hollis was an unheralded leader last season. Pool of future Warriors is deep and wide

During a 10-day surge, the nine UH assistant coaches evaluated players from more than 720 schools on the mainland and in Australia. Multiply that amount by the number of college prospects at each school and, well, it will be a busy upcoming week for the UH coaches when they meet to update their recruiting lists. UH Elite Camp

Next month, the Warriors are running the only high-school-aged football camp in Hawaii that involves NCAA Division I coaches. A new NCAA rule only allows Division I coaches to be involved in camps hosted by a Division I school and run on the school’s campus or home-game site. With assistant coaches evaluating talent on the mainland, non-Oahu islands and Australia, that leaves the program in the day-to-day hands of director of recruiting/retention Jason Cvercko, football director of operations Jimmy Morimoto and the four GAs.
