By Cindy Luis on January 7, 2020Hawaii middle Guilherme Voss was named Big West Freshman of the Week, the first time in three Big West seasons a UH player has won the award. Voss had three kills on .400 hitting with a dig and a block in Friday’s season opener against Charleston. The Brazilian followed that with two kills on .667 hitting with three blocks in another sweep of Charleston on Saturday. Hellvig is one of 14 All-America first team, and Igiede one of 45 honorable mentions. Cal State Fullerton’s outside hitter Julia Crawford and UC Santa Barbara opposite Tallulah Froley were the only other players from the Big West to be recognized, both earning honorable mention honors. Also named to the All-America team was Pitt setter Lexis Akeo (Kamehameha).
