Warriors alumni match Friday

The UH men’s volleyball alumni-varsity match is this Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center, 7 p.m. A skills contest is first at 6 p.m. Skills include serving, setting, and hitting contests between current and former players. An autograph session follows. Among the players who have committed are: Tui Tuileta, Manane Namahoe, Tom Pestolesi, Kai Kahele, Brian Beckwith, Kolby Kanetake, Joby Ramos, Maulia Labarre, Nemanja Komar, Mikey China, Cory Enriques, Erik Kalima, Justin Ching, Matt Cheape, Clyde Ching.

Warriors move up to No. 2 in AVCA poll

Hawaii (3-0) moved up a spot to No. 2 in today’s AVCA Coaches Division I-II Top 15, trading places with UC Irvine (6-1). The complete poll is here. Staying as the unanimous No. 1 choice was Long Beach State (6-0), the defending NCAA champion receiving all 16 first-place votes. Warriors up to No. 3 in AVCA poll

The Hawaii men’s volleyball team moved up a spot to No. 3 in the latest AVCA poll released Monday. No surprise after then-No. 2 UCLA was swept by CSUN. The Beach have all 16 first-place votes at No. 1. UCI moves up a place to No. 2. Following Hawaii is BYU, Pepperdine and the Bruins. SandBows open practice

Hawaii opened beach volleyball practice officially today. They had team picture and workout on Wednesday. Emily Maglio got in last week. She said she’s looking forward to one final beach season and enjoyed her time with the Canadian national team very much. It was former SandBow Laurel Weaver’s birthday. Wahine add Hanawahine from Oregon

Kyra Hanawahine, a Kamehameha Schools grad, has transferred from Oregon. She was not cleared to play in the NCAA tournament. She joins Jolie Rusmussen as a former Duck to Manoa; Rasmussen’s transfer was announced on Dec. 25. Hanawahine, a defensive specialist, will have two seasons at Hawaii.
