Tita Akiu is leaving tonight for the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is one of 45 liberos competing for a spot on one of the U.S. national and collegiate national teams. “I’m really excited,” she told me this morning. “A goal is to play overseas. Big West BVB honors to Scoles-Homayun

Don’t think this was a huge surprise. Ari Homayun and Julia Scoles played really well over the weekend, earning Big West Pairs Team of the week on Tuesday. Opposing coaches commented on Scoles’ physicality. As they say in VB, she hits a heavy ball. Scoles’ mother was here watching. Scoles is very athletic and is falling in love with beach. Beach poll Hawaii (2-2), preseason No. 5, was at No. 6 in today’s AVCA Coaches Top 20. UCLA (5-0), which won last weekend’s Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic at Queen’s Beach, was the unanimous top pick followed by USC (0-0).
