Hawaii sweeps Princeton, SandBows sweep ASU; BYU upset

Senior hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down 11 kills and junior hitter Colton Cowell added 10 as No. 2 Hawaii remained undefeated with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of Princeton today at the Brigham Young Invite men’s volleyball tournament in Provo, Utah. Behind senior hitter Stijn van Tilburg’s 18 kills, No. 2 Hawaii remained undefeated at 18-0, sweeping McKendree 25-10, 25-19, 25-18, at the Brigham Young Invite in Provo, Utah. Van Tilburg didn’t have a hitting error in 24 swings, hitting .750. Junior opposite Rado Parapunov added 14 kills and three of the team’s four aces. Rainbow Warriors No. 1 in RPI; Parapunov POW; 2 first-place votes in poll

The Rainbow Warrior volleyball team was slotted at No.1 in the first NCAA RPI report of the season. Behind the Rainbow Warriors (17-0) are Long Beach State (19-0), Pepperdine (15-6), UC Santa Barbara (15-5) and UCLA (16-6). Not that it means a lot in the RPI. SandBows edge Cal 3-2 for Heineken title, Loker MOP

Freshman Kylin Loker’s final kill gave No. 6 Hawaii its deciding point and the Rainbow Wahine claimed the title of the Heineken Hawaii Invitational beach volleyball tournament today at Queen’s Beach when holding off No. 11 Cal 3-2. Loker, named the tournament’s most outstanding player, paired with senior Hi’ilawe Huddleston at Flight 4 to defeat Madison Dueck-Alexia Inman, 21-15, 17-21, 17-15.
