The U.S. women def. Canada 18-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 in their NORCECA Cup opener. Emily Maglio started Sets 1, 2, and 3, finishing with two kills and a block. _______ U.S. men swept Puerto Rico. Patrick Gasman was the starting middle, and Punahou alum Spencer McLachlin is an assistant coach. Hawaii volleyball: Kaniho new Wahine volunteer; Costello to Irvine Valley College; former Warrior Ribarich passes

Kamehameha graduate Puna Kaniho is the new volunteer assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine. He’s been at practice in an unofficial capacity so waited until UH made its announcement. Kaniho returns home after playing volleyball and earning two degrees from Grand Canyon. Kaniho received his Bachelor of Science in sports management in 2016 and then earned his Master’s in Business Administration in sports business in 2018. He finished his four-year career with the Lopes ranked fourth all-time with 1,249 assists. […]

Hawaii men’s volleyball: Patrick Gasman named to NORCECA Championship Cup team

Incoming senior Hawaii middle Patrick Gasman was selected to Team USA’s 14-player roster for the upcoming NORCECA Championship Cup. The assistant coach is Spencer McLachlin (Punahou), current assistant at UCLA. Gasman and Loyola setter Garrett Zolg are the only active college men’s volleyball players on the team. Hawaii women’s volleyball: Wahine picked No. 2 in Big West poll

Hawaii was picked No. 2 behind Cal Poly in the Big West women’s volleyball coaches preseason poll released today. The two-time defending conference champion Mustangs received five first-place votes with the Rainbow Wahine receiving the remaining four votes. Hawaii women’s volleyball: Wahine receive votes in AVCA Top 25

The AVCA released the preseason NCAA women’s volleyball Top 25 poll today. Hawaii received 13 points, worth an unofficial rank of 32nd along with Northern Iowa. Stanford was near unanimous at No. 1 with 62 first-place votes. Nebraska had one first-place vote as well as No. 8 Penn State. Ranked teams on the Wahine schedule are: 13. Washington; 20. Baylor; 21. Men’s volleyball: U.S. qualifies for Tokyo 2020 with 3-1 win over Netherlands

photo from USAVolleyball via FIVB The U.S. men’s national volleyball team punched its ticket to next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo with a 25-18, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21 over host Netherlands today in Rotterdam at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Micah Christenson (Kamehameha) was the setter and Erik Shoji (Punahou) the libero. Christenson had two blocks in the match that lasted 121 minutes at Ahoy Arena.
