Hawaii women’s volleyball: Team explains effect of Skyler Williams’ sunny demeanor

By Warrior World on September 10, 2019

Hawaii volleyball junior middle Skyler Williams has helped supply a transformative effect on the No. 18 Rainbow Wahine so far this season, not only with her play, but with her disposition on the floor. Coach Robyn Ah Mow, Williams herself, and setter Norene Iosia attempted to explain to beat writer Cindy Luis and other assembled media the impact of her court demeanor on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1 Williams, of Bellflower, Calif., is the reigning Big West defensive player of the week […]

Hawaii football defeats Oregon State 31-28

By Warrior World on September 7, 2019

It was so quiet when Oregon State place-kicker Jordan Choukair’s 52-yard kick was tumbling through the air toward the goal posts you could hear the roar of the relatively small south end zone crowd first before the officials signaled the boot was no good just an instant later. The missed try on this windy Saturday night before a crowd of 25,141 didn’t end it for Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors would need to stop a hook-and-lateral play as time expired after […]

VIDEO: Hawaii women’s volleyball team begins practices for 2019 season

By Warrior World on August 11, 2019

Gym I gleamed and the Hawaii volleyball team glowed on Day 1 of 2019 full practices Saturday. It probably won’t all be quite that smooth leading into the Aug. 30 season opener against San Diego, but it seemed to be an encouraging start for a program that went one-and-done in the NCAA tournament the last two years. >> WAHINE VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE PHOTO GALLERY Here’s video of Day 1, featuring interviews with players Jolie Rasmussen, McKenna Ross, Amber Igiedi and Brooke […]

She’s taken to participating in national long drive competitions. Here’s Zamora in her UH softball days:

Wrong kind of rare record for Wahine

By Warrior World on November 16, 2018

Going into Friday, there were only two 0-4 starts to a season in Hawaii women’s basketball history. The first was 1976-77 — the third season of official play — under Patsy Dung. UH finished 4-4 that year, winning its last four games (three vs. Willamette). The second was 2008-09, when UH dropped its first six in Jim Bolla’s final season as coach. The Rainbow Wahine were 3-16 at one point in that season marred by the infamous kicking incident in practice […]

Wahine drop to 0-3 for first time in decade

By Warrior World on November 11, 2018

Another winnable game, another early-season loss for the Hawaii women’s basketball team. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 0-3 for the first time since 2008-09 — Jim Bolla’s final season as coach — with a 58-50 loss at San Diego on Sunday afternoon. Seventh-year coach Laura Beeman noticed immediately a different energy than from her team’s two one-point losses to begin the season. “Right from the jump,” she said in a postgame phone interview from Jenny Craig Pavilion. “We had a couple players […]

Wahine burned again in final seconds

By Warrior World on November 9, 2018

It was a different site but the same result for the Hawaii women’s basketball team. The Rainbow Wahine rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter at San Diego State to take a lead on Leah Salanoa’s free throws with 1:27 left, but SDSU’s Tea Adams drove for the go-ahead basket with 7.1 seconds left and UH was off the mark on its final possession in a 58-57 afternoon loss at Viejas Arena. UH, which dropped to 0-2 for […]
