Today's poll .. maybe some help?
Good morning all
I will be away from the computer this morning and may not be able to post when the poll comes out. If you folks see it beforehand, would you mind posting on this thread?
Mentioned elsewhere that I spoke with Mick Haley, USC, last nigiht. If there is a first-place vote for San Diego, that is from him. When I said I thought he’d move up to No. 1. He said that if the voters were paying any attention to who has played whom that his team didn’t deserve to be No. 1.
IMHO, 1. USC. 2. Minnesota. 3. Washington. Just because of how voting can work. Much will depend on the points.
Thanks again.

I think USD should be around #8 or 9 this week, in the top 10 anyway.
Anyone know how to get to the RPI website?
I can tell you right now some of you won’t be happy with the Wahine’s new ranking.
Here’s the order of the new poll:
USC
Texas
Penn St.
Minnesota
Florida
Washington
Michigan
Stanford
San Diego
UH
UCLA
Nebraska
Ohio State
Creighton at 24
Looks like no Wahine was nominated for Big West POW ?
2. Can’t argue with San Diego at #9. A little surprised UCLA did not fall farther down the poll, although this may have to do with drops of Iowa State and Oregon, and failure of other second 10 teams other than SD to come up with strong results last weekend.
2. thought I had mentioned this before that when the RPI comes out it will be via ncaa.org
thanks for the help. I’ll post new thread after I put it up on our breaking news site
Not surprised at UH ranking. I think USD had a tougher sked. UCLA match was kinda boring, expected more from them. That’s ok this weekend should be good.
Mick Haley was in a highly generous mood: USD #1, UH #2
Four voters put UH at #4, including Mary Wise and Gimmillaro
Getzin put UCLA at #9, UH at 13; others placing UCLA higher than UH are Hernandez, Hudson, Loeswick. Hawaii unranked on Gooden’s ballot. This appears to demonstrate how subjective and at times irrational (or unprepared) some voters can be.
Not surprised by Hawaii’s drop. They needed to make room for San Diego. No one in the top 10 had a bad enough loss to drop them out of the top 10. They did beat Hawaii so they deserve to be placed above them.
And yes San Diego did get 1 first place vote.
Let me guess someone forgot to submit a name to the Big West for POW ?
And the Media Guide online still has no cover.
@12 thats dissapointing specially since Uiato and Longo made huge impact on last weekend’s wins.
10. Maverick, having problems accessing the vote list. did Gooden leave UH completely off the ballot? if that’s the case … wow. what’s up with that.
12. think it’s being reuploaded ’cause when I checked the UH site this morning they had the 2012 back up instead of 2013
Who is Gooden, sorry have no idea?
5. am I missing the BWC POW link? only see soccer and not volleyball for the week
16 Ray Gooden is the Northern Illinois coach.
anyway, i did start a new thread if you want to move the discussion there
14. Ray Gooden, head coach of Northern Illinois Univ., left UH completely off his ballot. Perhaps an oversight…not like he is on the West Coast, but still unacceptable.
20. thank you. probably an oversight. I know that when I was voting on the Harris college football poll it had a built in alert if a team that was ranked in the Top 25 the previous week was missing off your ballot. so before you submitted your final vote, it questioned if you meant to leave so and so off. There was at least one time when I had just overlooked a team from the previous week.
But I get the feeling the AVCA doesn’t have that built into their system same group that I feel was remiss in not giving Shoji a courtesy call when he didn’t respond to an email request, asking if he wanted to vote this year. When he finally saw the email, he was 3 days late he says and was told too bad, you’ve been replaced by another Big West coach. this after being on the poll for some 30 years.
Mick Haley is right, his team does not deserve to be #1. Is it a case of them being undefeated and so they are #1 by default? Show me some quality wins and maybe I’ll be convinced that they are the #1 team in the country.
San Diego deserves all the accolades that they get and being #9 on this list is very good, but a first place vote?!? C’mon….be realistic.
Good teams just win. Was impressed with Santa Clara and hope for their success this season as well as San Diego and of course our Wahine. We’ll see who comes out standing at the end of the season. Probably a lot of block voting by coaches from unheard of conferences who have no idea of what’s going on in the overall volleyball world.
If this Ray Gooden person has hawaii unranked next week I will send a not so nice email.
How can it be an oversight? Don’t the voters (I’d say coaches, but we all know some SID’s do it) just take the previous week’s poll and make adjustments based on the teams’ win/loss from the weekend?
Warriorfan — Gooden had Hawaii ranked in the prior week. So probably just an oversight. Not sticking up for him, but that appears to be what happened.
