It was a used car. Got it from my sister. A couple of times the windshield wiper didn’t work. So I would roll down the window (while getting splashed) and use my left hand to wipe away the rain.
And, of course, you know the Pinto ended up being recalled because sometimes, on impact, it would, well, EXPLODE.
You’d be amazed at how many valets would say: You know what, free parking if you do it yourself.
The Pinto story
Ha- Now that’s a good one. A vintage car that is theft proof in it’s own right. We had a Pinto rental in Los Angeles once. One of the only times I was scared to the bone.
Pinto was a dangerous car. I remember a trucker being charged for rear-ending a Pinto, which burst into flames. The 2 occupants of the car died.
Pinto’s got handed down a lot in the late 70’s….

I remember riding with my mother in her pinto from Honolulu to Kailua in Nuuanu going up toward the Pali, and her car was sputtering and smoking, and naturally we were in the slow lane, and before you know it, even the city bus was passing us by because ol’pinto de-blue couldn’t go any faster even while mother had the gas pedal to the metal-la dat!!

The Rainbow Wahine volleyball program is one hearlded in tradition and a religious-type following, this is the kind of fever many programs would kill for, this is the kind of following some basketball and football programs from other schools would kill for, in fact, this is the following I wish all other UH programs had.
In the end I can see Charlie Wade earning that job. I don’t know Charlie Wade personally but I imagine a single tear rolling down his cheek as he makes his first public speech at the press conference upon accepting the postion.

Charlie Wade is more than a familiar face. He’s going to be his own coach with his own style. His energy will resonate throughout that bench much as it does for the Warriors today.
I don’t doubt he’s loyal to his current duties and prepares for the future, but you just gotta know…

fortunately, we have depth in chris gant, allen sampson and others. hope aaron brown comes back, he is a field leader on D and game breaker–when at full-tilt.

Is Tommy doing a good job?
The reason I mention this is because I was reading on another blog (SMU) about Tommy (current strength coach) this and Tommy that, and Mel (former strength coach) this and Mel that, and the argument centered on comparing the two, with one poster pointing out to the fact that a high number of UH players were kept out of this past year’s spring practices. Huh? Can you believe that? Spring practices? Tell that person that spring practices allowed the players the opportunity to rehab. It was also precautionary. Not a reflection on Tommy. But that was what this one poster pointed out, namely the number of player UH kept out of spring practices. Funny stuff.
Looking back at the 2010 season and Tommy’s first season as strength and conditioning coach. Hawaii didn’t struggle with injuries. Players have been quoted as saying that Tommy gets us loose and stretched out. Reading these player’s quotes it was like it was a revelation to these players compared to when Mel was here.

Some injuries I agree is misfortune, bad step here, bad step step there, but I think the greater the player is conditioned physically, mobility and flexibly it increasing the odds of the player not getting injured. Tommy is doing a great job.

Turf toe
Turf toe is a sprain to the ligaments around the big toe joint, which works primarily as a hinge to permit up and down motion. Just behind the big toe joint in the ball of your foot are two pea-shaped bones embedded in the tendon that moves your big toe. Called sesamoids, these bones work like a pulley for the tendon and provide leverage when you walk or run. They also absorb the weight that presses on the ball of the foot.
When you are walking or running, you start each subsequent step by raising your heel and letting your body weight come forward onto the ball of your foot. At a certain point you propel yourself forward by “pushing off” of your big toe and allowing your weight to shift to the other foot. If the toe for some reason stays flat on the ground and doesn’t lift to push off, you run the risk of suddenly injuring the area around the joint. Or if you are tackled or fall forward and the toe stays flat, the effect is the same as if you were sitting and bending your big toe back by hand beyond its normal limit, causing hyperextension of the toe. That hyperextension can — either over time or, if forceful enough, all at once — cause a sprain in the ligaments that surround the joint.
Typically with turf toe, the injury is sudden. Its most commonly is seen in athletes playing on artificial surfaces, which are harder than grass surfaces and to which cleats are more likely to stick. It can also happen on a grass surface, especially if the shoe being worn doesn’t provide adequate support for the foot. Often the injury occurs in athletes wearing flexible soccer-style shoes that let the foot bend too far forward.
GOUT
Gout is a disorder that results from deposits of sodium uric acid crystals, which accumulate in the joints because of high blood levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia), leading to attacks of painful joint inflammation.
Accumulations of uric acid crystal can intermittently cause severe joint or tissue pain and inflammation.
Doctors remove fluid from the joint and check it for uric acid crystals.
Drugs are given to relieve inflammation and pain, prevent further attacks, and sometimes decrease blood levels of uric acid.
Gout is more common among men than women. Usually, gout develops during middle age in men and after menopause in women. Gout is rare in younger people but is often more severe in people who develop the disorder before age 30. Gout often runs in families.
Uloric!!! works wonders, and this aint spam, although mass amounts of Spam does trigger Gout attacks

Tattoos aren’t cheap, and yes I have a couple myself; what I’m wondering, since it’s become so popular especially among athletes both pro and college, where do these college athletes get their tattoos, especially living on a shoe string as they say?? No-mo money for books and eats, but get kala for, tattoos???

In Hawaii, a lot of people have their own tattoo machines and supplies. An example is I have a friend, who is part Hawaiian and she has a relative that does polynesian tattoos and does them well and very cheap.
It’s not uncommon for some local people to know family members that can do them. There are also a lot of legit tattoo places that run via word of mouth that keep their prices low.
Usually polynesian tattoos that cover a bicep can run anywhere from $250-$400 depending on how complex the design is and of couse who is charging.
All of mine was done at T&T Tattoo in Aiea. First place I found in the phonebook that heavily advertised and boasted their State of Hawaii Health license thing so I went there. Pricey though I have four altogether on my shoulders and extending down to the elbow probably collectively cost $500 or $600. So as you can see it is one of the more costly places on the island. It was only AFTER the fact that I found out the prices from other places, but since over the course of three years I got used to the people at T&T.
So I don’t think college kids are going to high-end places like Hart and Hunnington in Waikiki for their tattoos. Lots of UH student athletes, male and female, have polynesian style tattoos and I wouldn’t be surprised if they either have a relative that can do it or have a friend that has a relative that can do it because this is Hawaii and like I mentioned, a lot of local people, more than some think, possess the ability and the tools needed to make tattoos.
Then you also have to figure, if someone doesn’t know anyone, then their parents pay for them. I know of several people that had tattoos paid for by their parents because of it’s cultural significance to their family heritage.
And yes, some parents are paying for their kids tattoos and they are not bad parents. At 18, my parents never paid for mine, that’s what a part time job was for. At first my mom was like “WHAT?” then 10 minutes later asked to borrow my car for the day and never cared. Then my dad was going through a mid-life crisis and wanted one too, but I actually talked him out of it. 😆
It’s 2011 and tattoos are not the sign of the devil or a convict.

Then that is their own stupidity. I thought long and hard about extending my tattoos below the elbow to the wrist many times before, but ceased due to the discriminatory factor in which companies filter applicants.
Maybe it’s my way of thinking and a few others, but quite frankly making a hiring decision on the basis of things like visible tattoos or piercings (although this can get out of hand more often compared to tattoos) is quite OUT DATED.
How often have we, in our respective professional fields encountered INCOMPETENCE at the workplace or from other companies you need to work with?
Personally speaking, I have encountered personal frustration with incompetence from so-called management trainees with degrees from high-profile college institutions getting to my company based on the paper value of their degree only to end up being reprimanded for costly errors and they end up working in construction??? TRUE STORY I swear on my grandparents grave.

If the study claims that the # 1 reason these people did not get jobs is because of appearance, how can this be confirmed as factual and documented truth with regards to this particular demographic considering many companies and their HR divisions do NOT disclose such information?
I mean it’s a fact companies frown upon visible tattoos and excessive piercings, but to do a study and to back it with facts, one would have to do their work, call these companies, ask for their human resources department and have them divluge FACTS on real prospects or a generalization of their hiring process which a lot of companies are tight-lipped about.
To me, there is nothing valid about calling a company and asking them “oh, why would you not hire college graduates?” to which they respond “because of tattoos”. First of all, the implied arrogance will be no longer “implied” and the justification is lacking in intergrity.
Again, the original post suggests that a specific target demographic of college graduates are not being hired due to tattoos and piercings tells me that they somehow obtained specific information on actual job applicants from a company’s human resources division and that, as far as I have been familiar with, is not permissible per the policies of many companies.
UCLA with Sealy could be a major thorn in our side for years. Would he come back?
The problem with some of these “tweaks” is that it’s going to limit options. Ideally, UH would like to redshirt some receivers. For instance, Allen Sampson would be a good player to redshirt. He played as a true freshman last year, and with a year off, he could gain more weight, then have three years to play three seasons. But if the receivers are iffy, then the Warriors can’t start stockpiling receivers.
No worry about Mike Sealy.
Charlie Wade will take care of everything when the time comes.
I’m sure if Shoji retired, Charlie Wade will be one of the first to apply.

The tickets I bought ended up directly behind them. We sat in our assigneded seats figuring the place would be crowded.
I’ve never met them before but admired what they do.
I will say this though, they looked at me and my friends and actually one of them asked “oh, you sure those are your seats”?

But to some employers, it does.
So, it becomes a matter of percentages.
Unless you’re applying at a tattoo parlor, no employer will hold it against you if you don’t have a tattoo.
But if 25 percent of the employers don’t want somebody with a tattoo, then a person with a tattoo has been eliminated outright from 25 percent of the employment opportunities.
In the competitive job market, it doesn’t matter what you think of yourself, it matters what the employer thinks of you.

Im not bitter here. I have applied for and worked two state jobs in my teens, part time job during schooling, and now a full time job. I have never been declined a job I have interviewed for.

There are so many applications, employers look for ways to thin the pile.
Now, if I were an employer, I wouldn’t care if somebody had a degree. I can understand circumstances, such as economics, family obligations, work, etc.

Of self expression much like the clothes you choose to wear…Personally for me I’m 30yrs old and could care less if someone see’s me in a different light because I have piercing’s and tattoo’s…Life isn’t about being popular or following the crowd that’s what high school is for…All of my body art has significant meaning to me and are a representation of what I had gone through in life…

In my Statistics class at UH, our Prof was a female, who came in and told us to read chap #1. Said she had to meet with her “business partners” to see how their business was progressing. Day after day, it was the same, for the entire semester.

Bush took the two wars he started off budget. In other words he just didn’t count then as deficit spending. Obama wanting to be more honest about the budget put the two wars back on the budget.
When President Obama took office the country was losing over 800,000 jobs a month. The Bush recession was in full swing. We were just a few months from entering the Second Great Republican Depression. While job growth is anemic Obama did stop the country from falling into an economic black hole.

one, if the pain keeps coming back then there is something definitely wrong.
two, if it is an occasional muscle pain then some remedial stuff can be done, lomi lapa’au, etc.
three, if it is unbearable and in the same point all the time or after certain movements, then you need to go under the knife. “scope surgery”.
four, you are not getting younger, it will get worse.
years ago, i could throw bp for hours. two to three hundred pitches per day every day.
then one day a pain here and now and then. soon, i couldn’t lift my arm past my shoulder. after finally seeing the orthopedic doc i finally got scoped. removing a calcium deposit and repairing my rotator at the same time. six months of painful rehab later and i was back to three bp tosses again.
i can recommend a good doc for you.
