So, I’m in the Denver airport, pretending to mind my own business, when I run into one of June Jones’ friends.
Apparently a bunch of guys from Hawai‘i are going to Dallas this weekend to attend the SMU game and hang out with Jones.
Then the guy says: “June’s looking forward to coming home.”
Huh?
According to the guy, UH and SMU are working on a deal for the teams to meet in 2010 at Aloha Stadium. UH has two openings for that season.
Hmm.
Stay tuned.
* * *
It’s just like old times with the men’s volleyball team back in Klum Gym today and tomorrow. The round-robin also features USC and BYU. OK, OK. Maybe it’s not the same. After all, there are no permanent bleachers in Klum, anymore. But the cost is free — to the public and to UH, which does not have to pay an appearance fee to the visiting teams.
ahh, here’s the new post, right on time
morning gang!
and you heard it first here
woh sorry premature submit button
UH vs SMU in 2010?
i thought the other guys were booked up already
The game is supposed to be early in the season, according to the guy. I see openings before and after the USC game.
I’d rather UH play Pac-10 teams, but with two openings in the schedule I guess SMU makes sense–it sure would draw the fans. Although, 2010 is far enough away that maybe people will have moved on and it won’t be much of a draw as it would have been this season or 2009.
The all-but-forgotten Hawai‘i Exemption is still in place.
By the way, JJ’s mom is still very sick. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
2010 also gives both teams enough time to have gotten 3 recruiting classes and installed their systems. The contrast should be interesting…
Too bad about JJ’s mom…thoughts and prayers indeed.
UH has trouble going east to play games on the mainland, which has been a problem for years going back before the Tomey years (that is as far back as I can remember). That shouldn’t be surprising because NFL teams have the same problem. They have charter flights, first-class hotels…and they still have big problems when they have to go east for road games.
I know when I travel, it is MUCH easier to go west and adjust to the time change than it is to go east.
And, if things work out, maybe Blaze Soares still will be playing.
2010 – SMU should be up and running by then. Most of their players playing are freshmen and redshirt freshmen. By the time they play UH, they will have 2 full seasons under their belt and starting their 3rd.
OK, I’m off to El Paso now.
How bad are things at Washington State? They are *41 point* underdogs AT HOME against Arizona tomorrow. It will be interesting to see them travel to Aloha Stadium at the end of their season and to see if their players have started their offseason early.
I think that Stretch might have “marketing” today…the guy in this article had a week that Stretch, duffer, and the other golfers here would love to have.
Good Morning All…Healing thoughts to all those who are on the mend.
thoughts and prayers for JJ’s mom
ST – have a nice flight
maybe they might want to come in 2011?
ST ~ You mean we will be able to officially SMU…SMU?
That guy, if he lives up to his duty, should be poor by now.
BTW – who told you that I was “marketing” today?? shhhhh
I’ve mentioned on this blog before how I think that SDSU will have major problems trying to remain in D-IA…but stadium problems might be the final nail in the coffin. Before this, the Chargers basically paid for the maintenance and upgrades for the Stadium, but the Chargers are being kicked out of the stadium and have to move elsewhere. The city of San Diego has already approved a big development on the stadium property and will tear the stadium down, so where is SDSU going to play. And now the city is tired of subsidizing SDSU’s games and is asking for money…big money from SDSU’s athletic department that is already in the red.
Just a quick good morning and Happy Aloha Friday to all those in the Tsaiko village.
OK
HiHo
esme and out
whoosh
Stretch – i thought that was only a local custom
Garret – sad about SDSU, long way from the Faulk days
Kekoa – howzit, negative on the inquiry, keiki sports saturday, will tune in to RK, please hoist one for me 🙂
Loa – I think it is a custom for more than just Hawaii
HAPPY ALOHA FRIDAY TO ALL
Conflict in scheduling:
Weber St. vs. Idaho St. Sat. 12:30 PST GamePlan DirecTV 791 and Altitude 681
WARRIORS vs. NMSU (Joined in progress) GamePlan DirecTV 793 1:00 pm PST. Hopefully the Arkansas/S. Carolina game will be done early! LOL.
RE: SDSU & City of San Diego…. now you know the challenge facing the Stadium Authority here…. reduced income from concessions and parking due to declining attendence at UH football. Plus, all the UH fans want to stop the one regular income-producing event at the stadium… the Flea market…
Hmm… SMU in 2010… who’s gonna be our QB then?
Insofar as SDSU is concerned. If they have to drop their football program, do those players have to sit out the next season wherever they might end up?
aloha Rich,
yes, that is a CONFLICT, man oh man…..choices. well, you know me,
GO WARRIORS 🙂
GO WILDCATS (X2) 🙂 🙂
mornin all
rausch (or TBD) vs BLM in 2010, after or before rausch (or TBD) vs. whoever’s sc’s 5 star qb recruit is at the time. hopefully 2 sellouts right there. that’s gonna be a stacked schedule, w/ boise, fresno, and colorado on the road as well…
thought da frogs had it last night, how does a kicker miss 2 FG’s inside 40 yards i’ll never know. with the way byu’s D is playing lately, i don’t think utah’s losing in the regular season. somehow, i don’t think BSU gets taken above a team like NOhio state. have to hope for a miracle…
Happy Aloha Friday Tsaikos,
ST, that is a round about way to get to Las Cruces via Denver vie El Paso…whew, lots of miles my friend.
hope you have better luck with the TP in Las Cruces, some establishments have gone green and are more environmentally concious, so they are using the residue from the cactus plant in their paper products. although you get a lot more ‘grip’, it’s the ‘rip’ that i am more concerned about.
hopefully, you packed some TP from Maceys that you purchased in Ogden last week, good luck.
Let’s go get a victory TSAIKOS!!! AND WARRIORS!!!!
morning and happy aloha friday to all the tsaiko kanes and wahines
stretch guess the mail not getting to ceded lands big kahuna. he gotta clean da maka piapia off his screen. knew you coming late but figga you change your mind since your last email. eh da big guy is still coming after 12 or going be dea for beginning of game?
moved from oddah post
morning to watercress god and best wishes to beast again. about time someone printed some ink on his playing time.
hope to see you at some latta UH home game tgate. kden lattas
Good morning folks!
Stretch,
if you out ‘marketing’ again, i hope that it’s not too windy. sometimes those crosswinds can make a presentation just ‘fade’ away, and at other times, when the wind is blowing jus’ right, you can really ‘hook’ your audience.
either way, hope they all ‘lay up’ to your suggestions and you can actually ‘drive’ your point home. stay true to your plan, and don’t ‘flop’ any ideas, you just might have to ‘drain one’ of those ideas to close the deal.
either way, hope you’re feeling better so you don’t have to ‘hack’ through the day. whether it’s working or working, the 19th hole is the ultimate equalizer.
have a whole in one day, that’s right, i didn’t say a hole in every day, stop it Homey!
koakane,
mahalo for da props for da beast. he is quietly making a mard for thos Wildcats with 20 tackles, 11 solos, 9 assists, 2 sacks, 4 TFL and 1 Forced Fumble.
look for a BIG game tomorrow, he has to hit his goals that he set at the beginning of the season, and he has 2 regular season games left to do it.
GO WARRIORS
GO WILDCATS (X2)
Good Luck to the Twin Wildcats from different mothers.
DPK
hope you, but more so your bride, survived the anniversay 🙂 give her a hug when you see her from us!
Morning Tsaikos.
I don’t think “coming home” is the right terminology. Maybe “visiting” is better. 😉
Anyhoo, let’s just show SMU that life goes on post-JJ in 2010. I’m sure we’ll be getting stable during the same 2 years too.
mahalo dpk,
i will let him know you’re wishing him well!
bulla still waiting for beast rookie fball pics and since he going be freshman dplayer for Weber an autograph one 😀 good too.
Yep buller, Da Beast is making a mark indeed! I didn’t know he was making a “mard” too. Wutz a mard? 😆
dpk
you literary giant, i meant mark, haha, and not takai
koakane,
i know what you mean, i have his bio photo, but gotta see what we can come up with. it should be good.
idaho state this week, and they’re 0 for the season, then a bye, and the Eastern Washington on the 22nd. time for leis and fresh poke at that game!!! haha
then the playoffs, will keep you posted.
madeinhawaii,
I don’t think that SDSU is in danger over the next season or two, but once the Chargers’ lease expires or they pay the buyout fee, then SDSU’s football days will be ticking down. I read in the paper today that the city already approved a big commercial development on the stadium site after the stadium is torn down…where is SDSU going to play? It is crazy that as of today SDSU has no lease to play their final 2 games of the season…that will get fixed, but it is a sign that the city doesn’t really want to subsidize SDSU football anymore.
If they are forced to drop football in say 3 or 4 years, that would be right around the time that the MWC has to improve the strength of their conference for possible BCS status. Replacing SDSU with just about any school (not to mention BSU) would definitely help their case.
This will probably kill SDSU’s recruiting in future years, as you know parents and other teams will bring this up. If recruiting goes down even further, the team cannot get better…and so the fans will continue to not care and the budget situation will get even worse.
In past situations (like SMU’s death penalty), if the school drops football then the players can transfer to any school (even D-IA schools) and play immediately.
kden final call out and invite to those who have not responded to this sat tgate at Bay View. Please leave notice on da blog so we can give a final count. Below is the info
“My comment is awaiting ‘moderation?’ What? I’m a Conservative!…and Catlick!”
Aloha Kakahiaka!
SMU in 2010 at Aloha stadium – yeah! That would be a great game.
Prayers out for Dr.Doc, JJ’s mom.
Esme & whoosh…
See everyone later, have a great Aloha Friday. Off to do some marketing now.
ST-
I’m surprised that you had to hear about a UH/SMU deal from JJ’s friends in a Texas airport rather than straight from JD himself.
You guys not tight anymore?
Where’s the love?
Good morning Tsaikos-
I haven’t posted here in a very long time, it’s been because I almost didn’t feel welcome, especially in light of, let’s face it, a less than stellar season. However, I came back because I realized something. I realized WHY I didn’t want to post, it was because I wasn’t feeling the mana’o from the Tsai-kos, and then I thought more about it, and I realized, “braddah NEO, you ARE feeling the mana’o, but you not putting it back out there…that’s why you feeling the way you do…” Took a lot of soul searching to figgah out that you know what? I AM a warriors fan, and no matter what anyone says, all of you guys are too… We hate to see the team lose, and for some of us, more than others it hurts even physically, and it’s perfectly natural to get upset and whatnot, but we always have the choice to stand aside for a while, let things calm down, and come back with a renewed sense of purpose, and clear mind. So, if the Tsai-kos will have me back, I’d like to call myself a Tsai-ko once again.
Aloha, and mahalo gang!
NEO
Stretch and Rich are the ones that are tight with JD!
Happy Friday everyone in TsaikoLand!
Why isn’t it Saturday yet? 😆
SMU 2010? 👿 Wonder how our offense will be by then? Rausch, Salas and Soares (we hope) will be seniors and can rule the field!
Gotta Esme…BBL!
Personally, I’m not excited about a UH/SMU game…not even another team from C-USA. I’d rather see more scheduling of teams from the MWC, and PAC10.
Best wishes out to Dr Doc and JJ’s mother!
So, Mr. Bulla…
Are you in da-poor house yet with your traveling to the main-island and Hawaii for the Beasts’ games??
NEO ~ Come out to da TV-gate at Bay View and hoist a few with the Tsaiko Faith healers.
According to this, here is SMU’s schedule in 2010 for the early part of the season (their other nonconference game is Navy later in the season):
9/4: at Texas Tech
9/11: TCU
9/18: Missouri
The UH-USC game is on 9/4. As you can see from SMU’s schedule the only way SMU could play UH would be for the game to occur the week before UH plays USC. TCU is a *big* rivalry game for SMU and TCU’s schedule doesn’t have many pukas to move the game around to.
So, ST says that the game would be the week before or after the USC game. I looked into it and have to conclude that it would have to be the week before the USC game. That also makes sense for SMU because it is easiest to travel early to Hawaii if the game is their opener…plus, I’m guessing ESPN might have the game moved to Friday and both teams would get an extra day of preparation before their second game. On 9/4 UH has USC and SMU has Texas Tech, so both can use that extra day!
SMU would have the type of non-conference schedule that I’d like to see UH have–UH, Texas Tech, TCU, Missouri, Navy. Two Big 12 schools (for UH that would be Pac 10), one MWC school, one WAC school (for UH that would be MWC or C-USA), and Navy (one of the teams I’d MOST like UH to schedule).
NEO,
I remember you and never considered you not a Tsai-ko. If you are a Warriors fans and you post here, you are a Tsai-ko to me…though I’m not the one who decides that stuff but I don’t know if anyone actually does. You don’t lose that designation unless you do not want to be a Tsai-ko…many people (hi UHFan808!) get busy and don’t post for a long time, but they are still Tsai-kos and we look forward to when they have time to post again (hint, UHFan808!).
Okay, boss is forcing me back to work. I actually finished my proposal yesterday and have a new task for work that I need to finish today.
Sounds good, Garret.
garret….are you suggesting that we go westward to reach the mainland then? or maybe schedule a couple of japan teams huh?
homecoming eh?
i was thinking the other day that when jj is done with the mainland he would return as the oc for mack.
that would be a true homecoming.
Good morning gang…
Have to do another Esme again today but wanted to say hello.
I’m not sure how I feel about a UH/SMU match-up. Not real excited about that either but we’ll see how it plays out when the time gets nearer.
Kekoa – I’m not sure if you got my RSVP but I’ll be at Bay View tomorrow.
NEO – Once a Tsaiko, always a Tsaiko. We all have our differences. We all don’t see eye to eye. That’s okay. We can agree to disagree on things. No harm, No foul. We all know that everyone here truly loves UH sports.
Esme and woooosh
NEO. You have to first be invited by a present Tsaiko to be in the club. And then you have to pay $25,000. You then have to go through a very private ceremony. There is also an initiation weekend dedicated just to you. Hope fully you don’t get hurt too badly that weekend.
Sorry NEO, I was confused. That was the terms for another club that I was going to join. I’m still waiting for my invitation though.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Prayers and good thoughts to all!!
HiHo
ps- Sports (and all you guys)- check out the feesh dinnah on my blog.
Halalu- ya!
pride….no forget you haven’t put your 25k down yet.
Pride…I’ll invite you to join the Koakane Kanaka’s Klub…
Just need a twelve pack of Heineken…maybe some kalding….miso soup…and you’re in….MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Al,
There isn’t a way to fix the problem for UH…but it does underscore the difficulty UH has when they go on the road, and also why it is less demanding of teams when they travel to Hawaii. I’ve watched 30+ years of UH struggling on the mainland, but never realized that traveling east could be a significant part of the problem. It is harder for any team to win on the road than it is at home, but apparently it is harder for teams when they go east instead of west.
The problem is probably compounded when the road game is during the day (like the Utah State game) instead of at night (like the Fresno State game). The time change would cause havok with the body clocks more for a noon game (morning in Hawaii) than a 6pm or 7pm game.
ooops….just realized that the initials of that club are bad….I apologize
darren mickens…………..

few highlights;
averaging 10.6 tackles per gm
punt returns at 14.6 per return
also has caught seven passes/3 td’s
this through seven games.
NEO: Welcome back!
Loa: Pretty sure the post-hole-in-one tradition is more than local. I remember a Pepsi commercial where a young kid makes an ace on an empty course. All of a sudden, some old man shows up, having been the only guy to witness it. The commercial ends with the two at a Pepsi soda machine. Something like that, at least. 🙂
Hmm, SMU-UH, eh? I would be one of those guys eager to see that game. Then again, I’m eager for every game!
One more thing 😉
In my daily search for Colt info, I’ve discovered my favorite Redskins blog- after Matt Terl and Chris Cooley, of course.
This blogger has a very insightful approach and I found many of the things he observed about the MNF Redskins-Steelers game applicable in principle to the Warriors as well:
http://www.theomfield.com/2008/11/not-quite-ready-for-prime-time.html
HiHO~
i am thinking that mickens should he pull the trigger will be groomed as a linebacker or defensive end.
Good morning everyone!
A “welcome back!” to OTTO who has been a very infrequent poster since last year!
Same to NEO, who first appeared on the blog in October 2006– 3 months after ST first started!
Garret,
Which is probably one of the reasons why JJ moved practice to early mornings. If the team is used to getting up at 5 am and going to bed really early, I suppose, it helps when they are on the road.
DOE’s decision on King Kekaulike’s hand gesture,

Addaknowjoe:
You know how it is: I go home for four days, and Donovan, “Ferd,” Leahey and the gang all go to eat at Stateline last night. I’m outta the loop, I tell you.
Bulla:
It is indeed a loopy travel schedule. I know this because it took about 45 minutes for my bags to make it to the baggage carousel.
Did I pluralize “bags”? That can’t be right. Surely, a man does not need two bags for a two-night trip, does he?
Stephen Tsai – don’t worry, your secret is safe with us
(Jesse) James – you lie. I don’t see Annodahdave at Cat’s Daily Dish! Now I look like a stalker.
Good Morning Tsai-kos!
Kekoa, Koakane & DPK sensei – tomorrow looking iffy for me. If can, can, if no can, you guys can eat my share. Just don’t let Homey get to it! 😆
Congrats to Wahine on their win yesterday. Scott Robbs yesterday morning certainly called it – said match would end at 5:15, match ended (by my watch) at 5:14.
Pretty smart of JJ to schedule Hawaii. He can use it as a recruiting tool to the local kids.
UH also is in talks with Virginia (we know how that went the last time) and a home-and-home with Rutgers.
Top 100???
NEO-
Braddah, you never left.
Once a Tsai-ko. Always a Tsai-ko!
I agree, it’s hard to take a loss. But, it’s so much easier to take a loss united together.
Now’s the time as fans we build character. We find out who we truly are under adversity. Last year, Notre Dame was 1-6 and obviously about to lose yet again at home. It was the fourth quarter with 6 minutes left when I noticed something significant. The stadium was jam packed with fans. No one left. Everyone still cheered as if they were going to win. What an unreal site. Now, THAT’S fans! That’s what I’d like Hawaii fans to aspire to be. Totally committed. Unconditionally.
At some point every team is bound to lose. It is then the team, the program, their nation will see who they truly are. What kind of foundation do they have. Do they crumble? Or do they press on! Sure, good fun win together. But, gotta lose together too.
A perfect example is our run to the Sugar Bowl. Biggest game in our programs history and we get skunked on national TV. Droves of Hawaii fans took it hard for months. Why? We never learned how to lose. I heard our fans expressed words like, embarrassed, ashamed, give up, losers, weak… Cannot help. When one is negative all their lives, they’ll be negative too in times of distress.
Texas just got the #1 title yanked out from under them from a foe they’ve easily handled for decades. Look them, they’re right back fighting this week. Twice Oklahoma was embarrassed in BCS bowl games on national TV. Look them, they’re right back again, fighting for a national title. USC loss the national title with what quite possibly could have been the best college team ever assembled. Look them, trying to fight for a title, yet again with a reloaded team. The difference between us and these programs? They all know how to lose. They all know how to handle extreme adversities. We don’t.
Not yet…
I have the utmost faith Hawaii will one day rise to national prominence. And this time, we ain’t leavin! It’ll be glorious!
I wanna be prepared for that day. The building of our program’s foundation begins within each and every one of YOU!
NEO – from the Matrix? are you the one?
‘morning fellow humans.
jm#### – stay home cook rice.
jojo…he is usually there on Fridays…and Tenks her for her food pics…just watch the Woodcraft Hawaii commercials, he is frequently on those….mwahahahahahahahaha
and no, you only look like you’re stalking homey…LMAO
I vote for A-Joe to be the next President of France!
addahknowjoe…as homey would say, “True dat”
real fans support their teams through thick and thin and each of us here do just that. I remember Notre Dame under Willingham when they had that horrible 2 and 10 season…and their stadium was still packed during the 11th game of the season. LSU moved its game a few hours earlier so that fans could watch the game before evacuating the city ahead of Hurricane Ike (now that was really hard core)….We have to be fans who will win with pride and lose with dignity. When we lose, we need to be able to pick ourselves up and move on to the next game and improve.
addahknowjoe,
That was well said! I’ve been a UH football fan for nearly six decades and I’ve seen a lot of losses…Yet we keep attending the games year after year… You just gotta love the game, the state, the school, the players, the coaches …and keep on believing in the team; this is when they really need us to fill the stands.
See you guys tomorrow at the TV-gate…
Go WARRIORS!
(J)J – I’m in it only for the cc, t-gates, and tv-gates… 😆
LTUF – Sheesh, only show up because it’s on your side of the island this time.
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THE AGGIES
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THE AGGIES
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THE AGGIES
#93 – World’s largest cheerleader. Those pom poms sure look small in his hands.
Where’s my pompoms?
Would love to see us play Virginia and Rutgers. What years are we looking for those games?
Ahhhh Koakane. I might not be able to make it to Bayview. I kindahhhhhhhhhh, pulled my groin muscle trying to do the split after the last “Aggie” shout. I goin’ try put some DMSO and see how I feel in da mornin.
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THESE AGGIES
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THESE AGGIES
GO WARRIORS…BEAT THESE AGGIES
ROTFLMFAO! I could just hear you say that in your high voice!
Home-Home with Rutgers?
I thought Jim Donovan was trying to stay away from scheduling east coast teams?
What high voice?
Homey,
Nah, I’m going so that I can see you swing your Price-Fisher golf clubs…
: 😉
Hey, how you been? buddy…
You bettah watch it Homey? I going put you at the bottom of the pyramid with me at the very top.
LTUH – Correction, it’s Playskool golf clubs!
Pride. – an inverted pyramid?
We’re not talking about the ones often mistaken for a 6-pack, are we?
If not, then no, unless they are the ones under your eyes.
NEO,
A team only loses if it doesn’t learn from it’s experience. JJ took 9 years to build his ‘team’ and supporting staff. Then he left, and so did his ‘team’ with him. Now we got a new team… ‘McMackin’s team’ and it’s going to take awhile to build. Meanwhile, there will be lessons to be learned and pieces to be fitted just so.
Even as fans, it takes a bit of re-acclimating to get used to the faces and persona of a new team. You need to grieve for the passing of one before you can welcome and cheer for the new – something we all do in our own time, space and way.
Thanks to this blog and some other online haunts, I’m really enjoying this rebuild of the Warrior program. This time we all get to sit in at the ground floor and not only see each and every nail, screw, staple, and board go up at Ching and hopefully Aloha, we also get to watch each player’s development, travails and tribulations, his contributions and the team’s unification under a new coach and staff. We get to wallow with the team in their moments of despair and revel in their successes as never before. More than ever, we have so much to be cheering for. We not only have more local players on the team, we have a lot of alumni in the coaching staff, as well. We have absolutely no right to be ‘down.’ As fans we are discovering that we can make a difference, in the smallest of ways to the biggest and it’s all good.
Oooh, that’s classic, nephew Pride.
Homey,
oh you wen upgrade your clubs…
LTUH – I’ve been doing fine! Watching a lot of TV, enjoying the good things in life like the 5 f’s. Contemplating when I should cut the trees and hedges before I put up Christmas lights. Thinking of my Thanksgiving meal. Trying to visualize a golf swing. Looking forward to a good game tomorrow!
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!
Al-san…I agree with you that Mickens has the potential to grow into an outside linebacker with his height and speed….OK, so you didn’t say “outside”, jmo.
I opened up a MRE (military Meal, Read-to-Eat) recently to show Peaches the contents. Looking at the standard accessory packet somehow reminded me of ST on the road. Contents: instant coffee, sugar, creamer, moist towelette, gum, toilet paper, matches, and red pepper (?). I’m saving it for him, although we are out of road games this season. 😕
Pride
Soooo, who’s your DMSO supplier? Tell me tomorrow….
bg…..he actually did play olb his soph/jr years and he was very good i read.
i was thinking along the line of mack’s converting safeties to lb’s and lb’s converting to de’s.
so when i see so many lb’s being recruited i don’t panic because you know some will grow in to other positions and they make ideal special team players.
har, har, har……….
so you are the palolo prowler.
Homey,
Good to hear; see you tomorrow at TV-gate. I guess I’ll be watching the Nevada-Fresno State game and the high school championship games tonight on OC16. Go GOVS!
gee. stevem. you should have just said you wanted to go to camellia’s or chin’s.
you didn’t have to bust out the mre’s. do they keep that long???
ah, desparate times produce desparate measures.
Hey is this the night shift or what? Good to see Al, SteveM, BG, Made in Hawaii, Pride. , etal, up and about this early…
SteveM, I thought you liked SOS….not MRE’s… 😉
yah, time for a nap.
Looks like Kansas State was close to an agreement to hire TCU’s Gary Patterson to be their coach…unfortunately for Kansas State, some people leaked the news early (similar to what happened with Les Miles and Michigan last year) and now he says he won’t take the Kansas State job.
Patterson had reportedly agreed to a 5-year, $2 mil per year deal. I guess he noticed what JJ was making in nearby Dallas…
Al — curiousity and just dieting a bit. The MRE contents noted that men and women in field conditions needed at least 3,600 calories per day…. provided therein.
Lots of goodies in there. I used to carry a few on my small boat 20 years ago….hmmmm, better go check on them in storage. 🙂
Happy birthday to Tyler G. It is too bad he is not able to spend it with his family as planned as well as his Hawaii family (his teammates).
Long Time UH Fan — I love ground beef SOS on toast or biscuit with hash browns. Did I tell you that the Pride of America is the the only ship I ever been on that made it… and made it well? I used to like the place in Nuuanu that serves JJ Specials, but there have been changes there.
Al – We have half a box of MREs, it helps sustain my prowling abilities.
Go Jim D and schedule all those games with the Big East and ACC – now, Mrs A-House and I can plan to attend those games – we decided to go to Washington in 2010 and Colorado in 2011. What a way to spend time in our “senior years” – go places never been!
Other teams in the Big 12 would be okay to because we have not been to most of the towns where they are located – Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahome, etc.
Don’t forget the Big 10 “cry babies” too – home ‘n home if can – if not, will go there anyway.
Wow, this will really cut into my Vegas trips, but alas, most travel agencies will figure out a way to “add” Vegas on the way home or find casinos in the surrounding area like ahhh, what the heck is the name of the biggest casino in the US? I know it’s on Indian property in Connecticut.
BTW, where is Rutgers? Some where close to d1’s alma marter?
MRE’s, K-rations, C-rations: loved them all except the scramble eggs – yuck, that was bad, really bad!!!
This may be the only time Linfield gets compared (favorably) to Michigan’s football team.
well, jojo if you ever run out of mre’s you can always stop by. we will feed you.
SteveM,
I had SOS once on the Pride of America too; brought back memories of eating those in the Air Force. This guy who served in my squadron was an all-state Tennessee high school WR and he loved them. He told me to try it but I really didn’t care for it.
A-house,
Alma mater???
Never been anywhere near Pescataway, New Jersey.
Sorry,
Piscataway.
Hmmm…interesting.
virginia, rutgers….is that a good home and home matchup?
idk. seems a bit far away for us and i don’t see much benefit really.
i would rather see us play michigan state, texas tech, or a cali-pac 10 team.
Garret:
BCS rules on # of teams that must consistently place in top 25 for “wana bees”.
Kind a tough when some current BCS conferences cannot meet this standard or are they “grand fathered in”? Is USC the only PAC 10 team in the top 25? Big East has only one at # 25. MWC has 3 this year.
Happy Friday Tsaiko Family!
It’s almost Saturday!!!
NEO – Welcome back!
Only 4 weeks until I get to come home! (for a visit at least)
Venerable Klum Gym:
Witnessed UH beat Oregon St when Oregon was ranked # 3 in the country.
Bows center was Tony, forgot his last name, who was 6′ 11″ and slim as a rail. He was so tall that he had to bend his head while walking the halls of Atherton YMCA.
Yup, I echo Al’s request for Pac-10 teams. Playing an East Coast team would be tough, and I’m not just thinking if UH is home. I would like to see UH play Cal or Stanford! Then I can drag my cousin who has never gone to a college game.
D-1 ~
Pardon me for not shedding a tear for Michigan…but..3 cheers for Linfield!!
oops I mean more Pac-10 teams. Heck join Pac-10! j/k
d1:
Did not the “halls of ivy” go that far south?
Or, is the “halls of ivy” only in northern part of East Coast?
Hi Ronnie!
We gotta make some plans for when you are home. What are the dates that you are going to be here?
Hi A-House! *waving*
How is Mrs. A-House? I haven’t seen her posting lately, is it because there is no blog contests with milestones that we have to reach.
SteveM
You supposed to save the MRE’s for hurricane preparedness! LOL
When the 29th Bde left for Iraq a couple of years ago, they left behind pallets and pallets of MRE’s. It was funny, because I’d catch the pizza delivery guys and Subway out in the field taking stuff to the Hawaii guys. Damned cell phones…call and give an eight digit coordinate and they’d deliver! Oh, yeah…the MRE’s were already accounted for and needed to gotten rid of. One guy filled his suv to the roof and took them to his Boy Scout troop.
A-House,
To answer your question about the BCS rules, they actually take an average over a 4-year period instead of just a snapshot at one time like now. If you look at the postseason rankings for the Pac-10 over the past 4 years, they have lots of teams that show up in the rankings–much more than the MWC or WAC.
The Big East *has* been getting a lot of heat because of their performance, especially after their conference was raided and they lost some of their better teams. There was some talk about dropping them when the BCS was being reviewed, but they were lucky that several of their teams jumped high up in the ratings…plus, the MWC and WAC were not as strong back then.
The Pac-10 will be back once they get their QB situations straightened out. The Big East should worry though if they keep struggling and the MWC gets better (dropping SDSU would help their power rating). But both conferences have 4 years or so to show how good they are. If TCU loses its coach, that could be a problem for the MWC, just like BSU losing their coach could drop the strength of the WAC in the future.
Just Saying wrote on my Warrior Quotes blog:
My response is below:
Appears we all have our own special reason(s) for playing a certain school.
For us, its travel, visiting more casinos, and maybe the opportunity for UH to truly recruit “nationwide” as do some of the schools like USC, LSU, Florida, etc.
For sure, traveling East is much tougher than “go West young man”. Gets much tougher as one gets older and I remember being a “zombie” sitting in classes at Caralise(sp) Barracks for the first 2 days in 1984-85.
Every time I visit the Kona coast, I keep thinking how many people can live between Kailua-Kona and the Maunakea Beach Resort – must be several millions and I dream of the recuriting potential for UH.
C-Rats was okay. Think grease in a can. MREs were a huge improvement. I liked LURPs the best.
Go Governors.
I still have my P-38 on my dog tag chain. I only have a problem when it pops open.
Is UH going to do a walk-thru practice at NMSU stadium? The radio said the Utah State stadium turf was tough to get a grip on and caught the players off guard.
I remember that David Farmer lost his shoe on one play after a good run.
Lab rat,
Can you still buy P-38’s?
I don’t know. I had mine since 1970. I think it came in the c-rat case.
A-House
Speaking of recruiting…haven’t seen Doris Sullivan around in a while. Hope things are OK with PIAA.
Was it just mental telepathy…that we were all thinking around Wreck around the same time?
Also hope Marv’s OK after the Georgia loss! Ouch!
Pau lunch time…
They might have it at that military surplus store near sand island.
LTUHF
You can find the P-38 openers in the sporting/camping section almost anywhere.
it did appear that we had difficulties maintaining our footing at usu. however, the usu aggies had no problems with it. i am beginning to wonder if the under armour shoes are the culprit. seems to me that we are having many incidents of slipping and sliding this year.
perhaps, the ua shoe design folks could work out these glitches with some real football players in resolving the matter during the off season so that by spring (at least) this can be rectified.
Lab rat and HIFlyer,
Thanks, I’ll check it out; makes good gifts for emergencies.
lab rat:
P-38 have not heard that term in ages – I still have mine at home and I keep it for emergencies – also got one in my fishing kit.
For the Air Force types, it is the twin tailed fighter used during WWII in Europe and the Pacific area of opns.
Also used to miss my “steel pot” that we used for cooking and shaving out in the field.
Today’s helmet, no can cook!
and in the mess out on the field there was the bigger version called a p51.
talk about ingenious. what would the gi’s have done without em out in the fields?
and you could also pop a bottle cap with it.
LTUF ~ Yes! They even sell XLP-38’s that are for opening large containers. One small problem, you gotta go to Old Sarge’s Surplus Store near Ft. Bragg, NC to buy it!
shyloh,
I don’t think they are doing a walk-through at Aggie Memorial Stadium. I thought I remember ST or someone else saying that they were gonna do their walk-through at UTEP. IMO, it would be a waste of time to drive 45 minutes to Las Cruces to do a walk-through that might not even last that long, then drive back to El Paso.
I believe the field at NMSU’s stadium is grass.
ltuh…buy it bulk 33 cents each.
http://www.georgia-outfitters.com/page52.shtml
It has probably been stated in the past, but why has the MWC and WAC not looked past their differences and looked to the fleeting dollars if they choose to remain the same? They will alwys be looked upon as step children to the “mighty BCS schools” as they have enough weak baggage to allow those divisions to look down on the respective conferences (WAC and MWC).
They should really look to be pro active and take what is perceived to be the marquee teams and form a new division. Be it and 8, 10 or 12 team division, but be something that is marketable, exciting and would give the Big East a run at who should be in the elite grouping.
Actually, the re-organization would help the weaker schools as it is really hard, as exhibited by SDSU, Idaho and the like to keep pretending that they are at an elite level. They could move to DII or just move on at what may be also be a financially wise move.
I forgot about the SS store on sand island… Prolly got ’em in all sizes.
Al ~ P-51? Hmmm…never heard that nomenclature used. Must be what we called ‘da big bamboocha’
How come they name can openers the same as the fighters? P-38 Lightning and P-51 Mustang… I worked on F-86 sabre jets…is there a P-86? 😉
Hmm. A home-and-home with Rutgers would be interesting. Piscataway is a one-hour train ride away from NYC. Would make for an interesting trip with the Tsai-ko gag. 🙂 🙂
I noticed some players using nike shoes but they colored them all black, or have tape wrapped around the nike logo.
Please note that I read that the P-38 and P-51 is considered contraband on commercial airlines and will be confiscated.
P-38 supposedly took 38 twists to open c-rat can. P-51 took approx. 51 twists to open No. 10 can.
Thanks Buffoman. Took the words right out of my mouth.
LTUHF:
The F-86 will be just that other than calling it the Sabre.
Remember when it first show cased and I was in awe due to its speed and shape. Wanted to be a fighter pilot, but that went down the drain when I had to use glasses. Further, one cannot have motion sickness. Oh, well.
It’s a good thing that Germany did not have 100s of them or the outcome of WWII may have been very different and that most of the “good” rocket scientists decided U.S. was better than Russia. Only was Russia stayed current with the U.S. is because they dismantled in Germany and reassembled factories building jet and/or rocket engines and nuclear bombs in Russian territory.
terrorist to flight crew, “i am taking control of this aero plane. if you don’t listen i will commence opening a hole as big as a tuna can in the side this aero plane.”
“hak…..okay then i will use this weapon of destruction immediately!”
(all the while brandishing his p-38)
Speaking of F-86 Sabre jets, hope Coach Tuioti and/or other coaches will be or were able to make contact with Pauoa Boy’s neighbor across the street.
He could be the Warriors Sabre jet.
A-House…Rutgers is in New Jersey…not too far from Princeton. That Ivy League school. They have a serious rivalry between the two schools….
Did you guys read about the salaries that former Warrior players in the NFL make? Wow…especially LaBoy and Sopoaga…
Howzit JamesH-38 (Heineken Bottle opener).
Rotgers? We would need Bio-suits and all our shot records updated to enter into NJ.
Anybody seen the F-22 Raptors??? Those are some awesome jets.
A-House,
As a contemporary of mine, thank you for those tidbits about the F-86 sabre, the fighter that dominated the Korean skies…
yo yo Kekoa…got me down for tomorrow, right???
8 Super Conferences including combining the “mid-major” conferences by taking the top 4 or 5 teams and creating a new BCS conference may be the way to create a “play-off” system to determine the national champion. Example, top 5 teams from the MWC and WAC form a new BCS conference.
Conference champs automatically qualify for a BCS bowl game to determine who will be the national champ.
BTW: How far is Atlantic City from Rutgers?
LTUHF: I think it’s incredible how quickly we were able to take pilots flying P-51s and others and make them into “jet jockies”. Talk about some special, talented guys. Fliht training must have been something else!
fliht = flight
Aloha, Tsaiko-ohana!!
Koakane,
In case it was not picked up from a previous post, I will be attending the Bayview TV Gate, and want the $15 buffet.
See you tomorrow.
Go Warriors!!
(Jesse)James,
I agree that is one awesome bird!
A-House,
Go visit the Foxwoods Resorts Casino in CT; my friend tells me it’s a huge casino…
at las cruses, one of the nmsu “supporters” wrote about coach mumme’s “air raid” offense. he said air raid spelled backwards is “diar ria”. that is funny.
whitey-LMFAO that’s great!!! we’ll see tomorrow… 🙂 LTUHF, you can get P-38s online no sweat… y’know they’re called “John Wayne’s” right? Now, can anyone tell me why? (I know but I like test you guyses knowledge too eh?)
NEO
The Nevada-Fresno game is set to start in about an hour and a half.
al,
Would you like us to keep mum about the highlights and score of this game? I know you’ve been kind of irked that members such as myself have been babbling off in-progress reviews.
Howzit All.
Very interesting discussion/reminiscing this afternoon.
Probably most of all is Buffoman, who I salute for daring to take anything right out of Pride.’s mouth *gulp*
James ~ Yup…gotcha down for a party of 12!…Bwhahaha!
Lopaka43 ~ Da Boss not coming, so I got you listed as ‘single’ but lurking.
NEO,
Welcome back.
Training film 😉
mav,
#53 post, well, all the tuition money used before for SL was converted to airfares….i think we still come out upside down….but you know how i live…make memories, make memories, make memories.
i would not trade anything for this…..come january to next september, mr. scrooge to da max, but for now…..let it ride……all the way through the playoffs.
it’s all good…………once in a lifetime………how you going act?
d1Shima,
Thanks for that tidbit about why P-38’s are called “John Waynes”…
so I go up to the Post Office window in Lihue after being away for a few years and the guy behind the window says. Wow, do you do anything else besides blogging?
A lurker. Haha!
Whoosh!
BTW – The AF is going to feature a formation of jets doing a fly-over right after the Nat’l Anthem. Designed to give the NMSU Air Raider offense a boost.
We should counter with an AC-130 gunship to scatter their sideline bench with 40MM rounds and a 7.62 Gatlin pouring hot lead! (For Amusement Only).
Finish with da Ha’a!
WARRIORS RULE!
NEO
Thanks; I’ve checked the online price for P-38’s to use as a benchmark before I visit the SS on Sand Island Rd.
And welcome back to the Warrior Beat!
Hiya MsLiz! Lurkers in Lihue?…Wow! Pretty soon you can run for Mayor to take Bernards place!
BTW, Good luck to the sons of Bulla and D1Shima in their games this Saturday…
Go Wildcats! X2
Long Time UH Fan – Pops & Hi Flyer can talk you down safely out of the wild blue yonder at the TV-gate. There’s about 75 years of flying machines between them.
LTUHF,
mahalo for the kind words, always good to cheer the local boyz on, wherever they might be strapping it up….
GO WILDCATS (X2)
GO WARRIORS
Pride as a cheer leader?
Man, those guys that toss him up and do a basket catch should be playing for the Warriors.
Just posted a pic of Davone’s daughter.
Committed Road Warrior:
eh, no worry beef curry.
a few days ago i broke the dvr against the dry wall. although the dvr won that skirmish, it was damaged internally forever. i hope that oc16 is forgiving and will give me a new one.
in the past, there was only one tsaikoette who used to blab the scores aloud in spite of my pleadings. she, however, got all habut and left the blog for the third time since the beat’s existence and you’re right three strikes you are out.
suffice to say, its a free country so do as you wish.
congratulations davone.
er….so, who is the proud mama???
Congrats Davone.
ltuh………….i sent you a link at post #160.
All right! A future Rainbow Wahine!!!
Congratulations to Daddy Bess and Mommy ???
And, welcome to Warrior World Kyrah!!!!!!
ST,
are the warriors ready to rock n roll tomw?
do they have their game faces on?
or do they have their faces in the ground?
i know coach mack challenged them on monday but, do they want this challenge themselves?
look at her hands, curling at the fingers, trying to clutch a football already, make the daddy proud girl!!! :):):)
Congratulations Davone!

LTUHF,
You’re welcome.
Thanks for the well-wishes.
They are playing Western Oregon, a good D2 school. #2 son says, “They’re big. Like playing Kahuku!” 😆
Bulla can relate!
Congratulations Davonne Bess! C-yoot da bebe!
ST
well let’s see, there’s Texas Roadhouse for the steaks and buckets of free peanuts, throw those shells at the girls not the floor.
there’s that little mexican place downtown, where jesse james, the real one, was shot and put in the prison next to it…..then there’s the indian curry place, always empty though, not a good sign.
a culinary nightmare if you ask me, but i would stick with the Texas Roadhouse, you can order everything WELL done, and that should kill it.
good luck bro, happy hunting.
Thanks, al.
Congrats to Davone and Mother.
Al-san
Humble apologies…I missed your post as I was typing mine…Thanks for the link… 🙂
Congratulations Devon….best wishes!!!
i was just wondering…..what happened to the power i formation we used to run from the one-two yard line with those big burly lineman in the back field?
d1
PSU’s oline coach, SL alum, Aleki Pascua just left W. Oregon to go with Glanville. He said it’s a lot different, but he likes it.
Before the game he kept asking about The Beast, so i told him, well, you know Aleki, he’s a freshman, so if he gets in some plays by the 3rd quarter, we’ll be happy (the only reason we went to this game is because he called to tell me he was starting, haha)
after the game, the coach found me….what the heck was that 3rd quarter crap, your son made my center look like an idiot…..haha, oh yead, sorry coach, i guess they changed the line up at the last minute…haha
all good, just thought it was funny, the level of gamemanship is very intriguing to say the least.

Committed Road Warrior: you know i was joking around right.
sorry for the double post, dyslexic fingers
Congratulations to Davone Bess and Kyrah’s Mom ..hope you get one WR next time… 😉
Kekoa:
Your Nam days are rearing its head again!!
I loved the M-40 grenade launchers – got pretty good at – used to hit targets dead on center from 50 + yards out. Good ole Kentucky windage.
Hearty congrats to Davone and Mrs for Kyrah – a future VB or SBaller!
OK, we’re going to watch Wheel of Fortune now in the offensive players’ conference room.
All these letters and numbers you guys are throwing out! For me, 36D is fine.
Funny commercial from Jack in the Box about their new chicken sandwich. Still laughing about it.
Whoa, that baby is huge! Waaaay bigger than homey and Wreck put together! Beautiful!
I’ll see 29 of you tomorrow. Everyone have a safe weekend…
GO W A R R I O R S
Congrats to the Bess family for their new addition!
Whoa Kekoa…I don’t want to play darts or golf with you tomorrow! I think that I will take on homey.
Congratulations Davone!
Happy Birthday Tyler!
No get lost homey!
jojo – The baby photo is photoshopped!!! 😡
Rob25 – What my name, Ralph?
BTW, it is a far drive from Waianae!!!
homey,
i was thinking of 36-24-36-8…YIKES! they let anyone play in the sandbox nowadays 🙁
Homey – Not as far as Therapy!
NMSU’s AD was asked about Hal Mumme’s standing with the school and he answered that they still have a chance to make their goal of a bowl game. That is kind of a strong hint that Mumme needs to win 3 of 4 to keep his job!
Bulla – hmmmmm, is that your masterlock combination?
Hi Bulla!
I converted Frank to Jaeger Bombs. He was all over that in Texas, although he didn’t like the taste by itself.
Headline of this article is: “Aggies look to come back to live vs. Hawaii”:
NMSU still has OL problems with a starting tackle missing the game due to injury.
Kealohimaikalani
Byooootifullllllllll…
🙂
Rob25 – Thank goodness for the H3. Otherwise would have to go through kolekole pass, up towards Waialua/Haleiwa, then past kahuku…then I get lost.
NMSU plans to put pressure on UH’s QBs.
rob 25
so is frank going to transfer to the air force? bombadiers get a good jump in pay i heard
homey
that is the ‘master of my locks’ combination….ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Headline of this article is: “Aggies season on the line vs. Hawaii”
Bulla – What? am I reading this right? you wear a locking garter belt? SEXY BIG MAN eh!
Kekoa . . .
Hollywood would have the Warriors doing the Ha’a smack in the center of the field (aerial from the helicopter point of view), wild-eyed sweat and hair flying (slo-mo zoom and pan shot of the Warriors), while the gun-ships strafe the sidelines. Of course, all the while there would be massive explosions of Gatorade containers and the glorious detonations of the goal posts (ground level shot of the helicopter fly-over as the explosions take down the goal posts).
Hey, not that I am advocating any unnecessary violence!
D1, the voices gave me the scenario.
“John Wayne” I understand. P-38, had no clue… the jarhead that I am.
BG, I’m heading to Okinawa again on another B-trip. Kona sip som aged awamori and feast at the nearest sushi-go-round.
Congrats to the new appa!
Will someone please say what her name (Kealohimaikalani) means?
homey,
as i expected, your mental meanderings have taken you down the path to the ‘other side’. need i remind you that this is a family channel, and the sun is still up. having said that, i realize that you were originally commenting on Pride’s pom poms, something i would not even dream of doing, and then you suggest a locking garter belt for yours truly.
i hope that the light from the good heavens will so shine down upon you and help you through your struggles in self determination. nary a young adventurer such as yourself should be concerned of the comings and goings of the likes of Pride and myself. be that as it may, we shall collectively embrace you through your journey, realizing that the utterances of babble merely reflect a lilly pad in your pond of discovery.
i hold near and dear to my heart, that a Warrior victory will help ‘right’ your dinghy, i mean ship, and that smooth sailing is ahead for you, my captain friend.
A-House ~ Got pretty deadly with the M-79! Used ’em during TET as a last resort against a human wave attack on our perimeter.
Congrats to Davone and Kyrah’s mommy on the new addition!
bulla,
now leave homey alone, he was only commenting on your ‘misaligned’ comment
homey lover,
i don’t see anything wrong, homey commented on garter belts first, and then it went south after that…literally
hey,
that’s enough lovin for everyone, now stop it dpk
Bulla
I don’t know about joining AF. It’s hard when you were in the Marines and now with the Army.
Those bombs kept coming and I went to bed leaving him with about a third of the bottle and plenty of Red Bull. He was feeling no pain, until we had to get up and leave for Dallas.
BTW, we thought about eating at the Texas Roadhouse places, but decided to go with wafan’s recommend. Are the TRs any good?
Homey-
that’s what I like about you. You get one unreal imagination. Even if it is just about Bulla.
homey go around kaena point, it’s faster to bay view…
CONGRATS TO THE NEW ADDITION TO THE BESS OHANA!!!
Congratulations Davone! per #202, Al I hope it’s not Koamahu, and we haven’t heard from Maryanne in very long time….Jason, do you have Maryanne bedded down at your house?
rob25
ono ono broke da opu good. big steaks, big baked potatoes, big drinks and a small bill…..we love throwing peanut shells on the floor, yeee-ha
ajoe,
i am personally going to buy him a new crack pipe 🙁
…and righting homey’s dinghy…? 😐
What SAR mission did I miss when I was napping this afternoon? 😯
D-1. I like the Hollywood scenario, but remember, we have a game to play. No time to fut around killing civilians. Game on!
Go Warriors!
Damn…now I have to go back to Texas. Guess I’ll have to meet up with him on the return next summer! I love me a good steak (or as my co-worker would put…big hunk of mammal)!
Howzit Gangee-
Mahalo plenny for all the encouragement… this is what makes me proud of being a Tsai-ko. Cuz sometimes, during da games get dakine lurkahz and they come out and bash the team on the blog an stuffs, make me kinna huhu you know what I sayin’? but all you folks who talking about UH football NOW, HERE, warms my heart… I no can be dea at the TVgate tomorrow, but I going record em and watchem… Come on Warriors, 3 of 4, remember the Hawaii Bowl year, needed 3 of 3… can do… or as the boys in the 1st BN, 487th FA say…
HIKI NO!!!
Aloha,
NEO
Kekoa,
Eh, dat was wafan who had those “Apocalyptic” visions…
Me, I jus dream of fuud!
heheheh
Whew!
btw, good thing I got here before somebody blurted out da 14-7, Nevada (11:40 in the 2nd Q) score in the Fresno game.
No like upset al!
…not to mention da 7-0, Campbell score (2:21 in the 1st)!
Whew!
Congratulations to Davone!! I remember when he was a guest on the blog and someone asked how his social life was and if he was single, he replied that he was “involved” with someone. He seemed to keep a low profile with his personal life despite all the media attention on him. If Kyrah was just born, then she was conceived sometime in March? Wasn’t that the intense period when they were busy preparing for the combine and the draft? Busy, guy, that Davone…
Duffer, despite KKbeing cleared of the hand motion, I still think it was deliberate and they knew exactly what they were symbolizing…It wasn’t no mountain…Trust me.
NEO,
Keep those caissons rolling along….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KMyuZIH-js&feature=related
Hoohiki,
i agree with you about the ‘mountain’ sign, jj has and always will be jj. he knows the truth and i feel badly for the athletes that are subjected to his direction
nevada has horrible clock management there to end the half.
and looks like ault brought his own cops again to fresno. although they need them there more than here.
Wow!
Really poor clock management by Reno just before the half.
Don’t think it’ll matter much though in the final outcome.
Wow.. Nevada should have gone to the air on that last play…
Anyway… may the winds of misfortune come down upon Fresno State with hurricane force and may the rains of failure pour down upon the valley with a vengance.
off to Rainbow Warrior Basketball…
GO BOWS!
Kazz/c_c,
I’m glad both of you were considerate to al and didn’t mention the 17-7, Nevada score in your comments.
Good job! 🙂
Nevada – Fresno State game is interesting with the Wolfpack up 17-7 in CA. We were lucky to get them at home.
I’m late on ST’s suggestion that LWJ get a chance to return kickoffs. I just hope they can do something with his talent. JJ set up some interesting pistol-like plays for him last year that got him some TDs but I haven’t seem them this year.
…as for me, I will not be mentioning the score from Aloha Stadium even though Campbell has scored their 2nd TD (and two successful PAT’s) while Radford has not scored yet with :42 left in the 2nd
I saw LWJ in the lobby. I said: hey, you should return kickoffs.
He agreed.
But he’s such a nice guy he would never make waves
btw,
Does anyone know why al sometimes seems to ignore my comments?
Stephen,
…but maybe he could make touchdowns!
Stephen,
Please don’t tell al how much $ Nauahi made.
so what is the mood like?
are we spitting mad? as in a wild bull?
are we ready to play some football?
what ST? tell us before you meander over to that casino down the street.
ummm. was that a hint st?
d1…..i did have it on sched to record while i broil some spencer steaks.
be back after the friday feasting.
Sorry al, I haven’t been watching the Nevada-Fresno game too much.
Just got back from the grocery store with NMSU tailgating fuud in hand. Now I just gotta find a small-kine cooler to keep the meats cool for the drive to Las Cruces!
al,
Oooohhh…and al gets his revenge!
Alas, I await gisantes by Mrs. d1島….hmmm, that’s good stuff!
Lots to watch right now. Nevada at Fresno on ESPN2, Viliami on Wheel, and Anthony Carter looking pretty good for Denver on ESPN. Hubie Brown giving AC lots of praise.
fuud?
Spencer steaks…gisantes….
gotta admit I’ve developed a liking to spencer steaks 🙂
Go Vili!
Go Vili!
Good evening Tsaikos everywhere.
Gonna be a great game tomorrow.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Congragulatons to D Bess!
Happy Birthday Tyler Graunke! Thanks for all the great memories and being a part of our team! Now, finish your degree! 😀
A House,
Rugters is just a rent a car away from Atlantic City.
I hope Jim Donovan is using the 50 State approach, and scheduling future games all over the country, with good programs so the away games go back to back to reduce costs.
And I’m hoping there are home and home with SMU. puts the heat on both programs, and is a positive positive for both programs.
plus, i like scream AT J.J. my therapist said it would make me feel bettah if i yell A T J.J. 😀

jm2375 — yes, please join us. I will send you more info at your .edu email account in a few minutes.
Congratulations Grandma R! Do you get to cuddle and spoil baby Kyrah? My mom says that’s her reward for putting up with all of us… 🙂
Thanks Ronnie. I can’t cuddle and spoil Kyra yet, since she’s in Miami, and I’m here in Hawaii – soon though.
Grandma R
Kyrah’s Grandma — congratulations and welcome to the blog!
Congratulations to you Grandma R!
And welcome to the Warrior Beat…hope Kyrah is not too distressed to learn Grammy is a Tsaiko!
heheheh
Eh LTUHF!
Lookin’ good! 🙂
Congratulations Davone, Rachel, Kyrah, and Grandma R!!!
Big Money Viliami!!!
Congratulations to Vili! The financial burden of walking on to the team must be much less now that he’s $47,560 (minus taxes) richer!
I think my parents and I met Vili and 3 other men (all 4 were quite large!) in the food court of the Houston airport waiting for our flights to New Orleans in late December. They were sitting in the table next to ours and they figured we were Warrior fans because of the green UH shirts we were all wearing. We had a nice talk with them and then as we were leaving one of the other men pointed to the youngest of them and said that he would be joining the Warriors next season. They said that his last name was “Nauahi”, and we all remembered the name because they were all such nice, friendly people.
Vili walked on to the team, made the team (not an easy task for any walk on), and has made a contribution. But what I’ll remember most was how nice he and the 3 other men were to my family while we all waited for our flight to New Orleans.
UH played Georgia and Florida to end last season and start this season, so I found this story pretty interesting. We all know about the Georgia-Florida rivalry, which Merv and Buckhead told us more about in December. Here is what can happen when a Georgia fan marries a Florida fan…
Wife who went to Florida was watching the Florida-Georgia game with her husband who went to Georgia. After they got into an argument, he tried to leave their hotel room…she didn’t like that so she bit him on the thigh! She also punched him a few times before leaving.
Some people are getting quite upset at the huge buyouts that college coaches are collecting this season.

I’m sure glad I’m not a Fresno fan. At least we knew that we would have some sort of transition year, with some inevitable ups and downs, but Fresno was the big time BCS darling and hyped like crazy, leaving their fans with sky high expectations.
Boy, what a hard fall. We had some hick-ups, but still alot to play for. Fresno fans, no matter how the team ends up, will be down on them.
They seem to be snake bitten every year. Brandstetter is extremely overrated, he has proto-type size, but that’s about it. Four turnovers, it’ll kill ya everytime. I think we know a thing or two about that.
Congrats, Davone, now marry your girlfriend.
With this horrendous economy, it seems I’m working twice as much for half as much. I hear Hawaii is not doing so good either. First time in my life I’m a little scared where this is going.
Go, Warriors, make us happy, please.
Grandma R,
All of us on this blog are proud of how well Davone has been doing with the Dolphins. It was a big shock when he wasn’t drafted, but we knew that he would show those NFL scouts and GMs how big a mistake they had made. I search the web every day and read through 3 Miami-area newspapers every day to find tidbits about Davone to share with everyone here…he doing an awesome job with the Dolphins and is already a big contributor as a rookie!
Thought you had a rough week?
Be glad you weren’t a sheep in Turkey where 44 sheep were slaughtered to celebrate the election of the 44th US president.

Congratulations to the Bess’s on their newest jewel, Kyrah.

Garret, maybe you were talking to his brother or relative or somethin cuz Vili was already on the team last year and was at the Sugar Bowl with the rest of the team…
Man, congrats to him on WOF tho- hand-rolled sushi- i still cant get over that one!
Also, congrats to Kyrah’s Tutu- cute da bebe. Im always happy to read about Davone doing well in Miami.
Wow! Congratulations to the Bess Family on their wonderful new addition to the family.. She’s adorable!
And to Tyler! Happy Birthday. Best wishes and a lot of success to you in the years to come.
Congratulations to Davone, Rachel, and Kyrah’s Grandma! She is a little darling. 🙂

Was the receiver (or football) OB? Is it a legal play? Check out this freaky pass and pitch in the endzone.

That’s a wild play!
Was the ruling on the field upheld?
TD! GO GOVS!
Missed! 😯
watching fresno st on defense and nevada on offense is a lesson on simple football. nevada off line lines in 3 pt stance, then blocks and drives fresno back at least 2 yds, then back goes thru puka, fresno tackles high, miss because trying to tackle high, and cannot stop run. plus the d line is not quick and cannot get down to tackle.
Tough loss.
Govs had their chances.
Congrats to Kahuku.
LTUHF,
You going state tourney?
very good hs game for the oia championship. both teams played well and their teams should be congratulated for putting on an excellent championship game. congratulations and best wishes to both team at the state ch.
d1shima,
I am in mourning…nah, one snap and clear
Garret, thanks for your positive comments and support. I search the web too, when time permits. I normally donʻt comment on blogs, but I could not resist this time – she is so precious!!!
I really appreciate all the aloha shown to Davone and my daughter. Thank you folks for wishing them well.
BTW, FloridaTed, Davone and Rachel are married.
Good night all & God Bless,
Grandma R
howzit again gangee.
boy o boy, lookin fo sum good smack em upside da head and crisp tackles tomorrow. an lookin fo sum make me feel good toss an catches by Alexander and da receivers.
afta watchin last week’s penalties, i feel like investing in da dvd Happy Feet, show em to da oline guy. there’s a 8 inch sideback move when the odda guy makes one fancy spin kine. our guy gets in trouble when anudda dline guy trowz him off by making like he’s coming his way… wuz watching da pittsburgh line go afta Redksins oline last Monday. sad sad.
i no i no, da Happy Feet analogy was my waxical whimsical flurrrish. 😀
Go Warriors!!!
time to hit the sack and get ready for tomorrow’s game.
sounds like a plan, whitey.
Oyasumina-tsai…
GO WARRIORS!
Thanks,Kyra’s Grandma,
That’s very very good, always thought he was a class act.
Amazing how he kept that under raps. Sorry, I was mistaken. I think he will make an excellent Dad. Your granddaughter will be a beauty.
Howzit Grandma R
Welcome to da blog! Congragulations to Davone and Rachel Bess and their daughter, and the proud grandma. Give your ohana our very best!!! That boy is working really hard. We are so proud of his accomplishments and his work ethic. Davone is making the most of his blessed talents; we can all see that.
Live like there are many tomorrows, Granny, Like Bulla says all the time, make memories! Start training your grandchild to smile, smile smile when she sees you. And teach her the words
Go Warriors!!!
aw shucks,
d1 and whitey left the house. oh well…..
g’nite all.
emse wooooshh
hi yooo silver and awayyyyyyyyy
Aloha Grandma R ~ We do follow our Warrior best all the way to NFL and into retirement. Take a look at Rainbow Cliff…perfect example of even our former Basketball players. There are many others who have had their day in the UH sun and maybe didn’t quite make it to that level. We still acknowledge them as former Warriors.
Davone was special, and we all appreciate him first as a person, and then as a great player. He has a beautiful wife and now a baby girl to complete the circle of life. Can’t get much better than that! Best of every little thing that life can offer them…and congratulations to you too!
Big Hilo!…Schucks I miss dat bugga! I was goin’ tell him come ovah in da morning on da first swell!
Kekoa – sorry can’t make it to BayView tomorrow. I will be joining SteveM in town. I’m such a softie. Taking the kid into town so she can go movies.
i knew i should have not come here until i watched all my recordings.
i was screaming with joy for viliami. what a fantastic finish for him! i hope tomw he continues his celebration with a few hits!
….
and then shed a tear for the govs. too bad someone had to lose that game. inspite of his misses, i was still in awe with the “leg” that so’olao and lessary displayed. i would recruit them just for their leg!
hard to imagine that so’oalo has only two years of football and just one at running back.
Good Evening Tsaikos!! Just got home from a long day of marketing. Time for me go sleep so I can wake up in time for the game tomorrow morning. See everyone later

Back from a wild men’s basketball game – saw Kazz briefly before the game.
DrDoc Update: He’s doing much better and may be able to come home early next week.
However, I was in a freak accident in the Kaiser parking garage Thursday afternoon. I accidently dropped my cell phone as I was getting out of the car to go see DD yesterday afternoon. While I was searching for it, the car door slammed into the right side of my face. It doesn’t look too gross, but the area where the skin was gashed open is right where I am scheduled to have a cancerous tumor removed. The tumor is generally a slow-growing one so surgery can be deferred for a couple of months which is what we had to do given DD’s heart attack. What happened yesterday changes that situation.
Let’s give a shout-out for our teams playing tomorrow!!GO WARRIORS!!! GO WAHINE!!!
Congratulations Davone, Rachel, Grandma R. on the arrival of beautiful Kyrah!
Happy birthday, Tyler! Get better, get your degree. There’s a lot more to this world than football.
Wow! So glad that Viliami Nauahi “hit the jackpot”! College is expensive. Right on!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Aiyah! W-Doc, take care of yourself. Did you go see a doctor?
jm2375 ~ You can slide on this one only because you are attending a back-up Tsaiko function hosted by SteveM.
(Make sure daughter is not making secret plans to meet boy friend inside da theater). You might mention to him if she did, that her Uncles are XXXL large Tsaiko’s who will hunt him down and grill him at the next T-gate!
S Malai,
Thank you for the correction! Now I have to figure out who we met at the airport…

Just drop in to give a shout and love to all,I am Davone grandmoter I been reading all these blogs,I would like to thank all of you for the support and the love you have shown my grandson. It’s nice to know there are good peoples and lovin peoples everywhere.Been to Hawaii back in 88″ didn’t know this was the route God had pick out for Davone. He loves Hawaii talk about you all the time. My great grand daughter is so cute.To Davone and Rachell see you in a couple of weeks. Love Nanny
All this SMU talk. I guess I am usually the one who reports “SMU lost again.” And they did. Tough year for JJ.
I only got to watch the 2nd half of the game as my TiVo betrayed me. The defense plays so well and then gets absolutely burned for these big plays.
I really don’t understand the coaches some times. What the heck were they doing challenging the field position on that NMSU reception late in the game? The NMSU announcers were completely mystified. On the other hand, right before the previous UH TD the coaches don’t challenge the obviously incorrect call on the sideline where I guess they thought he went out of bounds five yards before he did.
The final two minutes or so were just irritating. If you have the ball that late in the game and your offense is doing pretty well, don’t give them ANY more chances. Just finish things off. What the heck were they punting for at the 35? Give Shave Ice a chance to get his head back together– they were in his range and at 4K feet. It’s a good win and all…
Oh, and how can I not mention the officials. They were terrible. Terrible.
