Pilares out 3 weeks; closed practices this week
Kealoha Pilares, regarded by the coaches as the Hawai‘i football team’s best all-around offensive threat, has been told he will miss at least three weeks of playing time because of a sprained right foot.
“They said three weeks, but I’m kind of pushing it,” said Pilares, a running back/slotback who hopes to compete in the Nov. 1 road game against Utah State.
Pilares said he suffered the injury to the top part of his right foot in the first quarter of Friday’s game against Boise State.
X-rays did not show a separation of joints, which means the injury can heal without surgery.
He was in a walking boot this morning.
“I’m going to try to do all that I can,” said Pilares, who is relying on ice treatments and elevation to ease the swelling.
* * *
Head coach Greg McMackin said he will close practices to the general public this week in order to install new offensive plays and experiment with personnel changes. The ban is expected to be lifted next week.
* * *
Also, Ryan Mouton, who appeared to have tweaked an ankle during the Boise game, participated in conditioning drills this morning. Mouton will be held out of practice tomorrow, but will resume workouts Wednesday.

Happy birthday to Kinda Shy, the woman behind The Man. Actually, Kinda Shy is the star of the family.
1?
Wowwwwweeee. I haven’t been No. 1 since last season! Woot!
About the news on Pilares and Mouton: Aiiii-yi-yi. Rest up and heal up, guys!
Hi Esme!
Wow top ten on a Monday!
Do the others know?
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
Where’s Mr. Miyagi to fix Pilares?
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
Wow bummers UH really needs a win this week. Other players need to step up. Hang in there Kealoha.
top 10
just missed it
12th Man!!!
wishing all the banged up Warriors a speedy recovery, esp Pilares!
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
KINDA SHY is one super lady! Happy Birthday!
Happiest of birthdays — hippo-est of birdies? — to Kinda Shy! 😀 Hope you and JD get to celebrate in a big way!
yup….we gonna need about 40,000 12th men, women, and children come saturday evening.
will you be there?????
Oh, and hi, Rob25! 😉
happy birthday…..kinda shy!
we need to celebrate with a victory!
Dayumit, can we catch a break this year with the injury bug or what? Hope Pilares has a speedy recovery, cause he is the man that makes the offense run so smooth. Seems like once he’s out, the offense goes out of sync.
Ryan Mouton is the man, I don’t know what the “D” would be like without this guy. Hope he’s injury is minor and if he practiced that’s good news. Mouton is NFL material and the best Cornerback we’ve had in years!
Garret I too disagree, there is no reason that you can’t express your thoughts on any subject here, granted it may ruffle a few feathers but there was no reason for the name calling. If we all thought alike what a dull world we would have, plus we would be running a four wide offense just like the other top teams in the pros and college, oh wait we started that didn’t we, I think they called it a system offense.
Ai’yah forgot – Happy birthday KindofShy
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy…
Uncle Jim is doing a great job as our AD…so happy you guys are back in the Warrior Ohana! Thanks for putting the BYWho Kitty Cats back on our schedule, that was a given move that the previous retard AD shoudlv’e done a long time ago…MAHALOS!!!
as if we need more injuries……..but, it seems that this all has been occurring to strengthen our team and its supporters.
the struggle that continues this year will fortify our program. those that can and will rise to the occasion will be laying the groundwork for a program to be proud of in the days to come.
the old addage, “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going!” is never more evident.
so who’s tough out there?
don’t look over your shoulder. it needs to be you!
…nuff said.
UH at Boise St. Contest Winner:
Congratulations to da princess’ classmate!
Email me your contact info (midori7.tsaikos at yahoo) to collect your prize.
UHfan808 & I thank you for participating in this contest!
Thanks again to g-nalo for donating the UH Nike jersey!
Tough game; tough medicine to swallow. Most who have commented and placed most of the blame on Funaki, I suspect, have never played the game.
Hawaii’s O line must be one of the weakest, saddest lines I have seen in division I football. These guys are fat and ran out of gas early. Too much eating, not enough road work or running. Huge, hanging guts, with long hair. For a moment there I thought women were playing on the UH O Line.
In the case of the UH receivers, Hawaii has guys who are too scared to hold on to the ball or who are prima donnas, refusing to make that extra effort to reach out for the ball or to fight for the ball. When there do get the ball, then fall down after the first touch.
You can’t win ballgames this way – no matter who your QB is, folks.
Poor Funaki never had a chance. Fat, out of shape linemen; prima donna receivers, too afraid to catch the ball and get hit and too lazy or too afraid to make the extra effort to reach out and fight for the ball, to make something special happen.
Every good QB, no matter at what level he plays, is good because he has a decent line and decent set of receivers. In the case of UH, there is an embarrasing O line and an equally embarrassing bunch of receivers.
Funaki is a good athlete and a very good QB. Too bad he does not have a line and a receiving corps to match his playmaking abilities.
Pomai,
So the scores for upcoming games is now ran by my twin sistahs midori7 and UHfan808??? Are we going to start taking scores now or do we need to standby for contest rules and regulations???
WassupDoc,
You made some good points and reminded me that there *are* some political topics that are very relevant here. Anything to do with politics and UH, such as funding for UH (especially for the Athletic Department), Aloha Stadium, Ching Field, etc., is very relevant to be discussed here! And those are political topics that UH fans can all agree on…
Really bad news about Pilares…he’s such a valuable part of the offense and really makes a difference on the field. Kealoha, I hope that you get better soon, but please make sure that you listen to the trainers and don’t rush your return because we don’t want you to re-injure yourself and be lost for much longer!
Lots of extra reasons for people to attend the game. I hope that 40,000+ show up!
Nice to hear what Bess’ QB said about Bess’ TD.
helloo tsaikos
carry over from previous post.
who makes it to the big dance…BSU or Utah?
My bet is on BSU, with a upset of Utah by BYU.
any thoughts?
Tulsa’s QB is doing very, very well…I hope he doesn’t break Colt’s records.
iwonderwhytheyhateme,
You know what is funny right now? Because of the BCS rule that only 2 teams from a conference can make it to BCS games (the Big 12 is dominating the top of the BCS), right now both Utah and BSU would be in the BCS! I remember explaining the 2-per-conference rule here last year, but never thought that it would result in such an interesting situation.
Uce5,
I agree somewhat about the OLine being too slow and lazy…often committing stupid personal fouls and holding. They are only good against lesser WAC competition IMO and when faced with the upper echelon teams of the WAC and other conferences look horrendous!
Funaki I agree shouldn’t have been blamed for the Boise St. game to a point. Yes, the OLine looked ridiculous and reminded me of the Sugar Bowl game, but at some points during the game it seemed Funaki lost confidence in himself and was floating balls which were interceptions. He looked either tired, or like he gave up on himself when things went bad. Still though I love Funaki and feel better games are ahead of him. He is playing with tremendous amounts of pressure this year trying to live up to the Colt Brennan days, but he needs to realize that Colt and the Fab 4 are no longer and he doesn’t need to compare. IMO Funaki I feel needs to Believe in himself and his ability and say “F Colt, it’s Inoke Time”. Right now I think he’s trying too hard to live up to the expectations of a special team that is long gone.
The receivers are a disappointment to me. Greg Salas shows flashes here and there but hasn’t been consistent. Malcolm Lane has had some WTF moments catching the ball as well as Washington. To me Mike Washington needs to be replaced at PR, I’ve seen a couple of muffs already and has he gained more than 10 yards on any return yet this season???
BSU’s student paper had an article about the game with quotes about UH.
utah vs. bsu in the fiesta…
boooooo i dont want to see that lol.
id much rather see Boise sip on some Southern Comfort and play lets say…hmmmm Georgia or Florida.
I think Boise is the real deal and could very well take on any team from the SEC
Pauoa Boy,
According to the states, Mike Washington’s longest punt return of the season was 3 yards!
Check out this page on SportsHawaii that as the stats for WAC returners. Washington has 12 returns for a total of -4 yards! He is #21 among punt returners in the WAC!
Hats off to Greg Salas who had a good game considering the circumstances. He seems to possess that “never quit” attitude. I agree with you Garret, the loss of Pilares will have a definite effect on the offense. Hope he gets well soon.
Time for Leon Wright-Jackson to step it up and showcase his abilities.
We believe in you LW-J! Take it out on the Wolf Pack.
“According to the states” should be “According to the stats”
Hauoli Lahanau, KindaShy! And thanks again for warm homecoming welcome on the field!!!
Get well soon, Warriors!
Second team players- this is your chance to STEP IT UP! This is your chance to REPRESENT!!!
❗ GO WARRIORS ❗
Enough about Boise State, they were the better team this year hands down…hats off to them and good luck in representing the WAC for a BCS buster team. Kellen Moore, is a good QB for a freshman…he’ll be a handful for UH for the next couple years. Very poised and has a good arm for a Frosh!
Happy Birthday to “Kinda Shy” aka Mrs. Athletic Director and first lady of UH Athletics!!!
King Katonk,
I think that Salas has been playing well–two great catches after deflections last game and he’s made good catches in a lot of games this season. I don’t know if LWJ is going to get much time–it seemed that when Pilares got hurt the coaches turned to Libre and Farmer. I have read that LWJ is playing with an injury, that might be why he’s struggling.
And congrats to da Princess’ classmate for his good guessing!
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
got a chance to watch last years’ UH vs UW game. The dreadheads really knew how to get the “yards-after-catch”. Saw them turn some completions that looked like no-gainers into 10 yard gains. Just seems like our 07 receiving corps just wanted it more and refused to get taken down.
this year it seems like our receivers take one hit and go down. Only Salas seems to have that extra effort to get extra yards.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KINDA SHY !!!
…the First Lady of UH Sports!
Garret,
That stat line is ridiculous! 12 returns for – 4 yards??? Are you kidding me, can we say it’s time for a change maybe? Yeah you can blame the return team to a point for blocking but whatever I ain’t buying it. I’ve seen a couple muffs, dancing too much and nothing upfield. At this point the special teams needs to help the offense out with as much field position as possible and that is definitely not the way to do it!
Pauoa Boy:
“Funaki I feel needs to Believe in himself and his ability and say “F Colt, it’s Inoke Time”.
Excellent analysis and conclusion. Agreed. No disrespect to CB, but it’s Inoke time!! This is exactly how Inoke needs to start thinking.
I’d like to see some bruisers in the offensive backfield in the next game to replace Pilares and to provide more pass protection. We’ve tried finess running. Now, let’s give smash mouth running a chance. Would also like to see a replacement of the receivers except maybe Salas. Dreaming, of course.
Liz – I really liked your limerick on Cooley’s blog 😀
nevada had a frosh d-end speed rusher that pretty much dominated keoni steinhoff in last year’s contest in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter. i sure hope we have some plan of attack to contain him or we could be in a whole heap of trouble. nevada’s got 2 years worth of revenge on their minds. w/o pilares, it could be an ugly offensive display saturday nite, although we should be attaking reno’s last in the nation pass d. i’m confident in the coaches to do something about that.
even bobby c mentioned one of the receivers has dissappointed him this year, wouldn’t name names but you gotta assume it’s either ML or MW.
when was the last time we were a dog at home against a wac team not named fresno or boise. having a hard time recalling i think you have to go back a looong time.
48 Hours have passed-
-As Former Rainbow Warrior Keith Ah-Yuen has said: “You’re never as good as you think you are when you win and you are never as bad as you think you are when you loose”.
-Boise State is a great team but we could have beaten them. No matter, pay already, Nevada next!
-Funaki is still our guy and we must back him up.
-The defense STILL is the best in the WAC considering the challenges they have been pressed with.
-Ron Lee says he is committed to turning the offense around and the last time a UH coach committed to fixing issues we beat a nationally ranked top 25 team on the road.
“Two steps back, THREE steps forward!”
Pupukahi I holomua!
My BCS Buster prediction is that if 2 non-bcs teams make it, the higher ranked team goes to the Fiesta Bowl and the lower ranked team goes to the Orange Bowl (as the at large selection). Is that vague enough 😉
afternoon gang!
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
Pauoa Boy – thank you
Uce5,
Yup no disrespect to Colt, but Inoke really needs to get it into his head that it’s his team to run and his time to shine!
Whatever happened to Dustin Blount? Seems like he’s pulled a Houdini this season or am I missing something? Wasn’t he returning punts?
Haha, Ronnie! Anything for a pic of Cooley! He’s my fave onfield Redskin and, looks like good buddy to rookie Colt!
Speaking of Colt, Ben Folsom from the CurlyR blog says the Colt jerseys are flying off the shelves in the DC area stores. He wants to help Hawaii fans get them. A post about this is coming soon.
blount and henry redshirted, i think maybe.
RE: Dustin Blount.
I think ST said he’s redshirting, along with Mike Tinoco, Ryan Henry, Craig Bell, etc…
Loa – Thanks for…??? Sorry not sure if I missed something?
PB,
I think you meant Jovonte Taylor? I think he got injured or something, but I would like to see what he can do with his speed.
Thanks for the info on Blount…
How does that work if they played in games already…and can still redshirt??? Sorry my football brain not working today…
J-Dog,
Aiyah das who Jovonte Taylor…I was about to say #7 right??? I knew that didn’t seem right…sorry gang a little out of it today. Thanks J-Dog das who I was talking about…or I meant to ask about!
Sorry gang, I meant Jovonte Taylor not Dustin Blount…
I still believe it would be a SHOCK if they allow two non-BCS teams into their country club.
With BSU at 12 and Utah still out of it (I think) UTAH may get the shaft unless Utah is able to beat BYU and TCU (did they play them yet). It would be hard to believe that the conference strength of the MWC is considered equal to that of the WAC.
If Utah and BSU both remain undefeated, UTAH gets in and BSU gets shafted somehow.
Happy Birthday KInda Shy.
I think that a lot of doubters forget that coach Mack had only a few weeks to recruit and bring in players to replace all the talent we lost after 07.
It didn’t help that we lost some recruits because of the uncertainty of the head coaching situation.
I like the areas that we’ve improved on such as securing early committments, as opposed to losing out on recruits becase we didn’t show interest till it was too late.
utah’s 11 and bsu’s 12. utah controls their destiny especially w/ tough games against da frogs and cougs still coming, although both at home. still see bsu havinga little trouble w/ nevada in reno. i know reno’s d sucks but koepernick (sp??) went wild against them on the blue as a frosh last year.
don’t think 2 non-bcs teams make it to the dance…but we’ll see
Kazz,
Coach Ron says he is committed to turning the offense around but uh why wait so long to do so is my question? We mid-season already but regardless I give him benefit of the doubt since the QB position took awhile to solidify. Anyway, I would like to see the offense go into more of an attack mode and stop playing so conservatively! I feel we are best when we call plays to get downfield and attack! Our Oline is not good enough for a conservative ball control offense. We know our Defense can hang so why not do some aggresive playcalling on offense and get the ball in the frikkin endzone early and often!
Klnda Shy – Kinda Shy.
I thought Dustin was reshirted????
re: 2 non-BCS teams busting in
It’s possible since a BCS conference is only allowed 2 teams to represent their conference in BCS games each year.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/20/SPJ713KN4S.DTL
lab rat,
he is I meant to ask about Jovonte Taylor and got them two mixed up…my bad
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/20/SPJ713KN4S.DTL
happy birthday Kinda Shy,
your hubby is a very lucky man, you can tell him i told you to tell him. in the blink of an eye, and 30 years have slipped by…..like the earth wind and fire song…..do you remembah……haha
you have always been a class act, tell anyone who asks you what TITA stands for….This Is The Answer…..hey, kinda witty, i just thought of that.
have a special day, make JD pop for a nice dinner w/o kids……
Kulia i ka nu’u
bulla
I’d like to see the following in the backfield more, since UH is now without Pilares:
RBs
Jayson Rego – saw this kid play in high school, good slashing, running style, hard to bring down with one tackler, a bruiser at running back
Mana Lolotai – saw this kid play high school ball, has strong “won’t quit” attitude, would make good power runner, provide needed pass protection
Alasi Toilolo – fits my profile for a big back whose job is to gain five to 10 and punish the dbs while doing it
John Fonoti – same as Alasi
Receivers
Jeremiah Ostrowski – fast, has heart, a “losing is not an option” attitude, good hands
Viliami Nauahi – fits my profile for guys who are not afraid to catch the ball, run, make contact, and run the ball some more
Paipai Falemalu – same as Viliami
happy b-day kinda shy!
just saw that the WAC has a new contingency bowl tie-in.
what place pac-10 team does the hawaii bowl get? 6th? 8th? currently the pac-10 has six teams .500 or above.
J-Dog,
You got that right…I think Tony Tuioti is doing a good job so far. Hope he gets a hold of the kid I’ve been raving on up here in my area, since he got forwarded the info and highlights. He’s a RB prospect that would really fit into our system well I believe, but we’ll see. The kid has been offered by some other WAC schools and PAC-10.
Anyway, I think JJ had his favorites and played them extensively which gives this years group a disadvantage with playing time and game reps. Regardless this is a Senior heavy team this year so they should be playing all out every game as it may be there last year to ever play football for most!
Wasn’t Jovonte projected to be a slot but they moved him to wide receiver because it was easier to learn that position? I think he would be a really good slot. You got to have good slot backs to make this offense work.
re: 2 non bcs teams
a lot might depend on this week’s ohio st/penn st game. the acc, pac 10, and big east are getting only 1 each.
big 12 and sec get 2. psu loses and stays ahead of utah and bsu, then the big10 gets 2. who knows, maybe bsu and utah both lose and tulsa and ball state are battling for that non-bcs bid, seen crazier things happen.
Uce5,
Paipai Falemalu is on my list of future favorite Warriors! To me he is definitely going to be an impact player for us on “D”. I know he could’ve played alot this year but with Adam and Solly leaving, he is definitely going to take over!
Miah was impressive during unsupervised workouts earlier this year. I envision great things for him as well.
PB,
I agree. You would think that after riding the pine their whole career, some seniors finally getting their shot would still have that hunger. Anyway, all I know is that there is gonna be a lot of competition for those 2 slot positions opening up next season; and im sure after redshirting for a season, those JC slots are gonna be hungry to perform.
PB – no. 42
Tombo- Hawaii Bowl is Wac/Hawaii vs Pac-10 #6.
Back to lurking…
Interesting how top recruits pretty much always just choose BCS conference teams in basketball but go to non-BCS conference teams in basketball.
It is awesome that NMSU raised so much money for breast cancer research.
Interesting that Mack said that Inoke will *not* play the entire game against Nevada and that a “pure passer” would get time at QB. I’m guessing that means that Alexander will get some playing time.
Where did Coach Mack say this?
LES MURAKAMI STADIUM UPDATE
Well not really, but I caught the UH Baseball Alumni game and the HWB game between the Waikiki Beachboys and the Honolulu Sharks and since they are only partially completed with installing the new seats, only the lower level (formerly “blue” section) was open and I must say…
WOW!!! 😯
Those new seats are AWESOME!!! They are a dark green made with what seems like solid ABS plastic with ventilation slots in the back and cupholders in the back of every seat for the row behind them to use. They installed cupholders along the walls and the guard rails for those sitting in the front row.
They look awesome and the whole stadium will really look beautiful when it is complete.
Kazz,
Mack said that during his press conference today. The “pure passer” will receive “significant” playing time vs. Nevada.
“Interesting how top recruits pretty much always just choose BCS conference teams in basketball but go to non-BCS conference teams in basketball.”
That’s something I would say.
Well, halleluya, let Funaki start the game and then, after the opponent makes the usual halftime adjustments, bring in the change-up reliever. That just might work.
Garret,
Is the press conference excerpted on the Hawaii Athletics site?
I really think Alexander should start and take a majority of snaps. He has the arm for this offense. He can get it downfield and throw the long out. He has great height, and I think he just needs the 1st team reps and game time.
That said, I still think we should use Inoke here and there during the game — specifically in 3rd and short and goal line situations. Kind of how Tebow was used at Florida his freshman year. That way, we take advantage of his athletic ability without having to rely on his arm the whole game.
Please join us in cheering on the Warriors!

congrats to Fukuroku. WAC Offensive Player of the Week.
I saw that game last night and it was awesome seeing her grit really payoff. The last time I saw their game, she was on the receiving end of some stiff shots.
Midori,
Put me down for the Portuguese Sausage Moco. Also, just an RSVP for myself.
Thanks1
Kazz I remember that game. She could barely walk off the field. Now this is a senor showing some leadership.
Midori…I’ll be there…put me down for the Kim Chee fried rice…thanks.
Finally rested up from the trip to spudland. Had a great time hanging out with the Tsaiko contingent that made the trip. Great to meet C-Cut, djmitcho, D1’s #1 son, and CRW for the first time.
The team looked really relaxed at the hotel. I ran into Cal Lee in the elevator and told him the same thing. He said “I hope not too relaxed.” Well, the WARRIORS went out and fought hard the first 2 quarters. Unfortunately, we all know what happened on the opening drive of Q3 and BSU never looked back. The team seems to lose its intensity at halftime. Don’t know if it’s conditioning or what. BUT, they certainly can play straight up with BSU.
Most of the fans were okay, except for one elderly man (70’s or so) who appeared under the curse of screw-top wine who made a crude comment when we parked the car, and a younger one after the game commenting really loud to his buddy “Man, it’s gonna be a long ride home for them.” Too bad I didn’t say “No longer than the ride back from Hawaii last year.”
Not sure if it was D1 or Stretch that commented on the fan support out there. Lots of folks wearing BSU attire in the community. Saw a Ford Bronco painted in BSU colors, complete w/ logos.
Overall, it was a great experience and the smurf turf is really impressive in person.
Did anyone else have a hard time trying to decide off the menu Midori posted?
At first I went with Steak and Eggs, then I saw they had pancakes, then I normally don’t like loco mocos but with Portuguese Sausage?!?!?!!? NOW YOU TALKIN’!
Hey, gang…
So I posted this on Friday, but it was minutes before the game, so I am guessing only a few people saw it. So I’ll post it one last time. And then I’ll shut up about it.
I think that was against Montana. She had a brace on her ankle and her knee heavily wrapped up and both injuries on the same leg. Plus looked like she could have had a slight concussion too.
No mattah, das one V-8 Tittah right there! Well, maybe not, but she is tough!
Esme,
You have my attention.. sounds interesting.
Kazz..just order two and share…man, good to eat local food again…
Hoooo, boy, Midori, that menu sounds some ‘ono. Sure wish I could join you guys. …
Esme…I’ve always wanted to go to that Gridiron but never had the time. I may try to attend the Friday showing since the 25th is a football game day…..
Kinda Shy –
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to a really special lady! As SteveM describes you…”the First Lady of UH Athletics”! If you have time, drop by the T-gate at Cabana A. The Tsaiko “five F’s” are in fine form and guaranteed to provide you with terrific pre-game good times.
Good Afternoon Tsaikos!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KINDA SHY!!
I wonder if she will not be kinda shy and come out and say Hi. If she does, I will bring her a cupcake w/ chocolate frosting and sprinkles to the game.
Ronnie:
Is the Orange Bowl hosting the 2009 championship game?
If so, lower rank team may have to do the Sugar Bowl.
BTW – I have a feeling there will be another contest coming up soon with a great prize!!
and, i add my happy birfday wishes to Kinda Shy who is really not that shy, but quiet!
Esme is ST mad cause he no can act???? He could play Glanville.
da bcs championship game is in miami, i think a week after the orange bowl. the past 2 years, the non-bcs team has gone to the same site as the bcs championship game. expect the non-bcs team to go to the orange bowl, and that’s why the orange bowl was in boise scouting the broncos this past friday…
James, the Friday show has only precious few tickets left, but please do come if you can! And if you can’t get tickets for Friday, I would recommend the Thursday night show. It’s actually technically a dress rehearsal, but it’s open to the public and it should be pretty good.
I promise it’s gonna be a riot. I actually finally had a chance to see the whole show from start to end for the first time yesterday (up to now all the numbers had their own separate rehearsals) … and even in its rough stage, with no costumes, I was laughing so hard I actually cried. 😀
lab rat, I actually was hoping ST would come out for Gridiron.
Because as anyone who has ever heard “Lion” knows, he has quite the voice.
(pause)
Am I calling you out for next year’s Gridiron, Stephen? Yes, yes, I am. 😀
The FedEx Orange Bowl game and the FedEx BCS National Championship game are two different games.
closed practices, wondering what kind of changes are in store personnel wise, especially on the oline…
Urp.
Just got back from Na Koa.
Hey, I won a white jersey (No. 96), and so that’s this week’s prize.
Thanks, dpc and bcs’ing. I had to step away from my computer and couldn’t respond.
Hmmm… closed practices. Can’t wait to see what that means for the offense!
To Inoke Funaki –
I give thanks that you are our quarterback! Only you know and understand the emotions that you go through as you anticipate the start of a game and the tremendous pressure of executing whatever plays the coach calls throughout the game. Only you know how well your body absorbs the pain as you get hit again and again. Only you know if your head clears well enough after solid hits by opposing defenders or the hard turf. Only you know and understand how, as a quarterback, you enjoyed the accolades heaped upon you after a stunning win, and only you feel your own anguish and disappointment after a crushing loss.
That being said, I want you to know, and I hope that you can feel the continuous love and support of loyal fans who genuinely appreciate just how tough it is to not only don the Warrior uniform, but also keep academically solid thoughout the season. (end)
I choose not to point fingers at ANY football player who some may deem to not be performing well. In my opinion, this is unfair and demeaning to fine young men who have been recruited for their athletic skills and are tested week after week throughout the season and challenged to do their best (win or lose).
I am committed to enjoying the rest of the season…game by game…win or lose…post season or no post season. That being said, I want to thank Coach Mack, the coaching staff, and EVERY ONE of the Warriors for representing proudly in the finest fashion… before, NOW and in the future.
Imua Warriors!
Hi Mrs. A-House!
Very well said!
Maybe you could send that in an email to Coach Mack. I’m sure he would pass it along to the rest of the team and coaches.
And, of course, Mrs. A-House has an autographed football signed by Funaki.
And, of course, Funaki came by to say “hi” at our blog party.
Hey, Ronnie, there’s a bottle of tequila with your name on it …
Don’t think the changes will be on the o-line.
Hi Stephen!
Maybe I could get a little taste when I am home for the last game and football banquet. And the rest when I move home!
(Jesse) James –
Where have you been! The blog is not the same without your “weird, but most times informative” posts. j/k Midori7’s menu went on and on…I’ll ask her to bring me a “take out” of the kim chee fried rice. Can’t join you or we’ll have bought the away game pay-per-view package for nothing.
Wonder if there will be any changes at WR.
Play David Farmer please.
Ronnie –
Thank you, Ronnie. Have you recovered from the BS trip? Can’t say enough about your stamina, endurance and get-out-of-my-face toughness as you place yourself in enemy territory at Fresno and Boise. You are braver than me, gunga-din.
ST Esme says you need to get your “act” together. She is calling you out.
Stephen Tsai –
I give profound thanks that you continue to be the most prolific and entertaining sports writer that ever hosted a Warrior Beat blog! My heart has skipped a beat ! ! I have cleared space in my living room for another helmet autographed by my man, Inoke. Don’t need to call ahead, just drop by and bring it over ANY TIME, at your convenience. I’m going to dress up for the next T-gate, in case Inoke drops by to say HI !
Kinda Sly,
Happy Birthday, you lovely lady.
Ah, memories….
HeinekenHealer –
I respectfully request your “unofficial” take on Kealoha Pilares’ injured foot. From the description of his injury, is a 3-week recovery time enough? Thank you.
Happy birthday Kinda Shy!
Yahoooo!
(j)j…..welcome back dude.
no forget, at least two eggs overeasy with the kim chee fried rice. right over the top.
some kalbi would go nicely.
Midori7 –
May I respectfully request a change to my “take-out” order?
Would prefer the Fried Rice Omelet & Kim Chee with a side order of Spam Moco. Thanks, I’ll provide my own drinks.
Hi Mrs. A-House! How are you doing in the land of the Warriors?
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
Congrats to dpc for winning the contest.
Welcome back (Jesse)James!
Pilares being out for up to 3 weeks is unfortunate.
It’ll be interesting to see what changes are made this week in practice.
Midori7 . . .
So, get delivery service?
The menu looks so good. Yum!
ST
do you know if the d-end that played well against us in the 4th quarter last year (caused graunke’s fumble in 4th qtr) against nevada is starting this year…
Geez. Pilares out for three weeks that is not a good thing. Time to unleash Rego?
The A-House family talks to each other on the WB?
wtf?
….Wonderful That Family 🙂
are we to see jayson rego and farmer a bit more these days.
what if libre went to slotback?
what if ostrowski was taken off the redshirt list? he still got 4 years and you know he can catch the ball. he may not run 4.5 but he is shifty.
ryan henry off the redshirt?
santos? hmmm.
okay, i am just half making light of the situation and half guessing. i still like funaki, i would definitely take him to war with me. definitely.
No. But if you hum a few bars…
Stephen,
btw, it is Wazzou next year.
Interesting Mr. Tsai indicates probably no changes to the OL. I wonder why not?
d1….mrs ahouse uses wtf but she capitalizes for emphasis.
Mrs. A-House,
I think I’m recovered from Boise. 🙂 I’ve decided that I’m going to that game until we win on the smurf turf – at least twice 😀 It was much easier to be at Boise than Fresno, but maybe that’s because we haven’t won at Boise…
I can’t wait until the last game of the season. My boys and I are coming home for that one! We get to finally go to a Tsaiko-gate (since I missed it last year).
Mrs. A-House…been in Florida for the past two weeks…glad to be back home….and thanks for the welcome back.
Thanks al and d1…..
Too bad about Pilares…that’s gonna hurt the offense…ouch…
Happy B-Day to Kinda Shy, who isn’t really shy once you get to know her, but is shy initially…..
Esme, will see if I can make it…have a lot of work to catch up on…unfortunately, work doesn’t stop while you’re away….boo hoo….
al….actually I like sunny side up on my fried rice…..over-easy is too well cooked for me…mwahahahahahha
Can’t wait to see everyone again on Saturday at the T-Gate….
Garret,
Where did you see the stuff from the Monday press conference?
wafan……one can hold a block for only so long. if no one is open or cannot find one open wr what is a lineman to do?
i don’t think it is all the olinemen’s fault that we are being hurried or sacked. the whole offense including the coordinator needs to take ownership for this.
something is not working and every man needs to take care of business.
ST: What’s the scoop with Graunke? Is it really his hand that is keeping him down on the chart? Things are not adding up.
wafan,
Mack has stated that the players who they feel give them the best chance to win will play each week.
I take that as a statement of the quality of the available players. 😐
Wafan –
Hi Wafan ! Doing great…how about you! Still waiting to get up close and personal with you. Hope that doesn’t scare you. Just want to give you a lil’ hug/kiss. T-gate?…if can, can, if no can, that’s ok…maybe next year.
Al –
You stop that! If you persist in teasing me, I will NOT resist your attempts to keep me from telling your wonderful family ALL the juicy details of your posts describing the delightful comings and goings of your nice family.
mih,
At one point, I thought that would have been a good idea as well. Not so sure now when I see how many ways Mouton makes such a difference on Defense.
Can the team really afford for Mouton to get himself “gassed” (or even injured) on offense?
mrs. ahouse…..you making up stories again?
and besides none of them read the blog, har, har, har.
d1(kanji) –
Didn’t Midori7 ask for pre-orders in her menu post? Funny you should ask. She keeps to an extraordinary time schedule…she’s awake when I’m asleep…vice versa. Ahhh, to be young and full of energy, vitality and stamina again…
Mrs. A-House,
Ahh…I see.
The WB is the modern-day equivalent of the refrigerator door?
Al –
Har, har, har….be afraid, be very afraid as I approach your family seated under your canopy at Saturday’s T-gate! Har, har, har…
Mrs A-House:
You get one football signed only by Inoke? Wea stay? I neva see one on the piano.
One of Yaw take out awda for me? or, you goin eat all dat?
Happy Birthday Ms kinda shy! nice to meet you that once.
d1(kanji) –
Too funny…har, har, har…
al . . .
Not blaming the players and when I re-read what I wrote, I guess it does appear I am blaming the players. I agree with you that a person can block only so long. But, if they are not able to hold their blocks — for whatever reason — then things have to change. If not the players then the philosophy or technique or plays or what? But it is not necessarily the players that need to change. Rather some sort of change must be made. I wonder what it might be?
d1 . . .
I was thinking the same thing. It is a concern if these are the best we have. I am sure they are good players. It looks like there is a big drop-off from our starters to our reserves. That may or may not be true; but it sure looks like it.
In any case, something is not right. I do not know what it is. I sure hope the coaches do! And, I hope they can fix it!!!
Hi Mrs. A-House! This was pretty funny since he had no competition…LOL
Mrs. A-House:

Stephen Tsai –
I give profound thanks that you continue to be the most prolific and entertaining sports writer that ever hosted a Warrior Beat blog!
Graunke is not physically able to perform.
He’s fifth on the depth chart at the moment, behind Funaki, Alexander, Rausch and Santos.
A-House –
Don’t make me look bad…D1 says use the refrigerator door for notes to me instead of this blog to communicate with me. But, sorry, my revised take-out order is just for moi’. Midori7 is waiting for your order. Please do it quickly so she doesn’t get upset …laters w/luv…
Happy birthday Kinda Shy!
Welcome back James!
Yikes, at least three weeks for Kealoha. That’s going to hurt us. Hopefully someone steps up.
At the risk of complaints about politics . . .
Prayers to Obama’s grandma and her family. Things, apparently, are not going well.
Nevada lists its starting d-ends this week as Dontay Moch and Kevin Basped/Ryan Coulson.
John Bender is the starting left guard.
Loved him in Breakfast Club.
family?
what family?
the last home game will be the last one sees of them except #2.
i only tease those i like. so if i stop teasing you, then you worry!
yeeeehawww.
p.s. no forget the iriko.
Oh man, I had my heart set on those banana pancakes. I forgot to post about that, so I was going to post that now — then I remembered my bro-in-law’s graduation is at 10 A.M. I hate missing games … but I’m proud of my bro-in-law, and I will be there for him. 🙂
The mind picture I get about the A-Houses.
They sit absolutely silently in the same room with smiles, frowns, and assorted emotions flashing across their faces as they “speak” with each other on the blog.
Do they even remember how the others sound?
Perhaps they read the notes on the communal refrigerator door and post their responses thereon.
Rich2176 –
Wassup Rich! My gratitude and appreciation to you, also, for wading into BS enemy territory to represent along with Ronnie and Stretch, djmitcho and Chawan_cut. Fun, yah, to cc together away from home turf. In Kissimee, FL, (first game cc) we forgot for the moment that we were thousands of miles from home, but nevertheless enjoyed tremendously the warmth, comraderie and ono grinds with dear friends. My best to Margo!
Wireless companies around the US are shuddering as the A-house family exposes the new alternative to texting family messages….
Who needs a Fave Group?
James, shohts! Thanks for even trying to attend. I guarantee you won’t regret it. 😀
Wafan –
You have a vivid imagination. Sounds like a script from a movie called “Bored to Tears, When will it End?”…har, har, har…
Mrs. A-House – Everyone but Stretch and I were the TRUE WARRIORS in the stands. Although the box provided an amazing perspective of the game, we couldn’t really yell and cheer too loudly. However, my deepest thanks to JD for his graciousness.
Also, everyone that went to the SWAMP should receive some kind of award for surviving that hostile territory.
mrs. a-house,
yes you are right. never far from home when you’re with friends and other fans and are all cheering on the Warriors/Wahine on.
D1(kanji) –
Hey, forgot to thank you and #2 son for also venturing into BS enemy territory to represent. Nice that you both enjoyed together…father/son bonding is special. Hi to Mrs. D1…see you Saturday? hope so…
rich2176,
the fans weren’t very hostile, as soon as they started winning, heh. nah, they were all nice. they couldn’t believe we flew all the way there to watch the game. funny coming from them. they’re as hardcore as you can get. i bet if they ever dared to play a game as far away as hawaii that they’d all make the reverse trip.
the hostile thing out there was the humidity. we got so lucky during the game that it wasn’t as hot as it was the days prior and after. walking around disneyworld was not fun. good thing for under armour and their special shirts.
Chawan_cut –
And how are you holding out…cold, yah. Couple more weeks to go? My hand is over my heart as I thank you for serving our country by doing a splendid job on your TDY out-of-state. I owe you, so really looking forward to seeing you on-island again. Take care and keep warm…
Rich2176 –
Agree with Chawan_cut. The Florida fans were surprisingly cordial and kind to us. Perhaps it was out of respect for two senior citizen Hawaii fans sweating like the dickens, trying to survive the once-in-a-lifetime (at least for us) exerience of being at Da Swamp. One of my most haunting memories is watching one of our group munching on a roasted, fall-off-da-bone juicy turkey leg that Midori7 was too late to get us for lunch. Sold out. Dang! I guess you could say the game itself was forgettable, but the experience of being there was definitely not!
chawan_cut: You guys getting basketball tickets this year? I got mine today; second row again, but on the other aisle (band side).
# d1島:
October 20th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Can we survive against Nevada with him solely on Offense and Returns? We probably can against the remaining schedule. It’s just Nevada I’m leery about. We need this win.
Steven,
What happened to Ray Hisatake? Highly touted d-lineman, moved to o-line…and was suppose to be a contributor this year. Havent heard a word about him.
WAFAN: When someone is extremely ill (and I hate to say “near death’s door”) this does not become “political” and and I pray that people have not gotten so cold-blooded not to empathize with a grandson coming here to be near his grandma.
i think that was #1 son that went to boise.
Afternoon Tsai-kos!
Hope you’re all having a good start of week!
Happy Birthday KindaShy!
Welcome home (J)J! So, how was Miami? Didja eat a lot of Cuban food? How wuz da weather? Still hot & humid? Didja make big body on South Beach? Sorry for all da questions, I get family in Miami. Spent 3 weeks there last year (in July/August).
Hi Mrs A-house! How’s Maunawili?
thanks, jack flash
😯 🙄 Niners: no-no Nolan!!! 🙄 😯
Congratulations to Coach Mike Singletary! 😀
The miscast owners will soon run out of “scapegoats” to blame for their own incompetence. IMHO 😯 🙄 😈
Last I checked, JD wears the pants in house.
KindaShy just tells him which one to put on.
.

May the Happiest of Birfdeys be bestowed upon KindaShy!
Forever a country girl and closet tita making her hometown so proud!
~•~~~~•~~~~•~~~~Happy..Birthday..Kinda..Shy!!!~~~~•~~~~•~~~~•~
Dan-O,
I was wondering the same about Hisatake. I was thinking maybe we should suit him up as an RB for Nevada and put him in there to block and maybe even carry for the unexpected short yardage. I’ll be he’s hungry enough to make an impact.
JM2375 –
Hiya! Beautiful day in the valley today. Thanks for asking. I like your fire and brimstone emotional posts last Friday. I’m not messing with you, my friend…my good friend…
See you Saturday, ok…
Rich,
I thought Mrs A-House was talking about either Mike or Leila when they take over the blog! 🙂
D1(kanji) –
Sorry, Hi to #1 son and thanks for representing in Boise with your Dad. You both must laugh a lot when you’re together, yah. That’s a good thing…
Some quotes from Mac’s press conference.
<blockquoteOn the team’s lack of scoring in the second half:
I think we got conservative because we we’re trying to win a couple of the ball games and move the clock. I think you can do that against certain teams, but for the next games we’re going to have to open things up and move the ball. We also are going to have to get better on protection and not give up on turnovers and receiver routes.
TomMui –
Hi Tom! Agree with your serious sentiments.
Will say a prayer for Barack Obama’s grandma. Where would this Nation be if she did not provide the loving support to our Democratic Presidential nominee when he needed it the most…
Brew- Can’t stand York but it’s better than the asylum across the bay.
K back for a few…
I agree that Rego needs to see the ball now that Pilares is out. LWJ and Libre are still banged up…and we need a guy who can tough out the yards-after-catch. Wonder why Rego is not playing more, what happened?
Dan-O,
Hisatake at one point was competing for a starting job at one of the Tackle spots, then next thing I know he is Houdini and poof he’s gone. Wonder what the heo is going on? If he cannot play on the OLine put him back on D in the DT rotation so he can contribute. To me he’s a wasted talent!
Jason,
How much was the BBall tickets for the season??? I think Roderick Fleming is going to bring some excitement back to UH basketball.
Raiders – are run by a control freak/tyrant. 😈
Niners – ??? Owner(s) is an absolute buffoon! 🙁
California, 4-2, (2-1)
Stanford, 4-4, (3-2)
San Jose State, 5-2, (3-0)
Right now, the Spartans are the playing the best football in the SF Bay Area! 😯 🙄 😕
RE: Some quotes from Mac’s press conference.
On the quarterback position…
The quarterback…(gets) too much credit when he is successful and gets ridiculed when he isn’t. It wasn’t all Inokes’s (Funaki) problem. He got hit when he threw one ball, there was a wrong route run another time, it’s a team game so it’s not all on his back. He’s won two big games for us and was throwing the ball well in the first half, but give Boise State credit too because they made some great plays too. It’s a combination of things and we’re going to work hard to get it worked out. There are eleven guys out there, it’s a team game, and we win and lose as a team. Even though the quarterback is a glory position it’s not all on his back.
E’a E’a
Good riddance to Mike Nolan. Congrats to Singletary; can’t wait to see if he’s really head coaching material. Can’t wait for the day the Yorks are gone. Any Tsai-kos with enough money to buy the team? Please, I’ll chip in $100. 😉
Speaking of chipping in, thanks to Stephen for “treating” me to lunch today at Nā Koa. And thanks to Stephen for taking back the $15 (after a lot of back and forth trading).
Pauoa Boy: For me, it’s $60 this year for twenty regular-season games and two exhibitions. Doesn’t include the Rainbow Classic.
My prayers for the Obama household. Our political differences aside, that’s a tough time for anyone. My Grandma played a huge role in my youth as well before she passed when I was 9, so I can understand Sen. Obama wanting to come back to spend some time with her.
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy! Thank you for spending some time with Liz and I during the LA Tech game. You are a Supah Lady, and a dear Tsaiko. Please enjoy your day as I know that JD will treat you like a Queen for a Day!
49ers: I would love to see an ownership group led by Steve Young and Brent Jones take over the team. The concern would be whether they’d want to take the team to LA…. 😐 😯 🙄
So to whom do I write my $100 check, to Steve or Brent? 😛
Brent is the business guy. 😀
al,
You are correct. It was #1 son who went to BOI with me then he returned to PDX with me to watch #2 son play.
Mrs. A-house,
Yes, we had a great time together although there was not much to laugh about in BOI 👿
al, d1島 – I wonder if Garret’s grandparents referred to Garret’s dad as #18 😀 😯 😆
rout city – Patriots – 34 Broncos – 0 3qt
play ball – shhh…no shouting out scores, please!
brew,
Evidently, they were too “busy” to bother counting!
heheheh
btw,
This Saturday Linfield is one win away from clinching its 53rd consecutive winning season…the Wildcats can extend their own all-divisions national record with a win on Saturday…the streak began in 1956 under late coach (and former UH AD) Paul Durham
Go Linfield!
Welcome home, d1!
Mrs. A House
RE: Pilares
It sounds like Kealoha Pilares has a grade 2 ankle sprain which is a partial tearing of the ligament. A three week recovery time sounds about right. Some people heal faster depending on your genetic makeup and your diet. Most players with ankle sprains are able to return in 2-3 weeks depending on the severity of the sprain.
In Graunke case, I’m afraid I might have been right. Its very difficult for a quarterback to return with a injured wrist.
I’m going to re-post my last weeks comments regarding Graunke injury.
Wrist injuries in my experience take a long time to heal. Graunke could possibly have a scaphoid fracture which account for 60% of wrist fractures. The scaphoid bone is one of 8 carpal bones in the wrist. Wrist fractures can be difficult to diagnose. If it is a scaphoid fracture, it has a hard time to heal due to the anatomy of the blood supply to the bone. The blood supply is what keeps the bone alive and allows it to heal. I hope its not a wrist fracture.
The best case scenario would be a moderate to severe wrist sprain with a healing prognosis of 6-10 weeks.
I want to make sure everyone understand my assessment on Graunke is only my hunch. I did not examine Tyler nor am I qualified to make this diagnosis. UH has an excellent Medical Staff and they are doing their best for the team. An accurate diagnosis is much more difficult than people think. Because of a law in patient confidentialty we are not always hearing the condition of the players. In my opinion, a wrist injury to his throwing hand is one of the worst injuries you can have for a quarterback. A strong healthy wrist is very important in the mechanics of throwing a football. Its very difficult to compensate using other muscles and throwing an accurate pass with an injured wrist.
I actually am in possession of some really good tickets for Saturday’s game.
We’ll have giveaways Wednesday and Friday, OK?
I might have stated this before, but I think some people are holding out hope that somebody — Tyler Graunke? — is going to come in and serve as the savior.
That’s not happening.
There are plans to shake things up — pretty good plans, actually — but they don’t involve Graunke.
While we all like Tyler, right now he is No. 5 on the depth chart.
Ryan Grice-Mullins played his first game this past week!
Re:
St sez: I actually am in possession of some really good tickets for Saturday’s game.
We’ll have giveaways Wednesday and Friday, OK?
I had a dog once, and his name was ‘BINGO”!
Is first class airfare also included? 😯 😀 😯
How about coach? 😀 😯 😆
In Tyler I trust
but on Tsai I rely.
Sorry Tyler- praying for your COMPLETE healing.
Ok. Ticket giveaways on Wednesday- go Ukuleleboi!
hi brew!
ST,
The villagers are getting restless, not on here but elsewhere, and they are gathering outside UH Manoa with their pitchforks and torches. 🙄
jm2375…I was actually in Tampa. The weather was pretty humid, like 94 – 95% every day I was there although tempearatures were in the mid 80s it felt worse. The day I left, the nightime temps were dropping to mid sixties and humidity to about 90%. It was pretty fun though, although parts of the city seemed really dead during the week. Got to hang out a bit with some friends who also attended the conference so that was cool. It was a working trip so not a lot of play time but nice to get away for a bit…although I’m really happy to be home now…
Liz – 😀
These are the kind of educated opinions that help in getting things back into perspective as opposed to jumping to conclusions as to why things are the way they are.
Happy birthday Kinda shy! join us at our tsaiko tailgate at richardson field…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, kindashy. Best of wishes to you!!
Happy Birthday Kinda Shy!
PB your comment about JJ not giving a lot of peeps PT resulting in a depth without a lot of experience is happening with coach mac this season. He says he will be rotating a lot of players in the game, but if you review your tapes, same peeps on the o and d line. maybe a reason we don’t often see mana, alasi, leatigaga, hisatake and a bunch of others hyped to seeing pt this season. not looking at special teams although it is a very important part of the game.
are we back to richardson field?
bg?
kazz?
Ronnie:
Any hope??
2007 site no. 2008 location yes. everything still the same.
Curveball – yep! Did you want all 3?
okay kinda shy tsaiko tailgate at cabana A next to richardson field….
Hiya Ronnie –
😀
hi brew! If curveball only needs 2, we’re a go!
Hmmmm…got a procurement class all day Wednesday and Friday. Lost before it even begins…
“procurement class” …. = shopping? 😀 😯 😆
Kelli: I don’t think I responded to you. They do sell ginger tea in bags, but the fresh stuff is better. 🙂
Jason – any chocolate cake today? mmmmm.
i heard rumblings of stuff with the ’tiser contract. hope all will be well for our favorite employees. (in no particular order) Stephen, Mike, Esme, THE Princess, and all the others that are working hard for us.
Mrs. A-house,
thanks for your well wishes. will be home sooner than later.
jason, yes, i think we got tickets again. can’t wait!
Good Evening Tsaikos!!
So far I don’t have to bring any cupcakes w/ chocolate frosting and sprinkles to the game, Kinda Shy still being Shy.
Come out come out, where ever you are…..
oh, and i know i forgot some other employees, like I already forgot Caryn. and i’m sure i’ll remember others later. sorry if i did!

HeinekenHealer –
Kept checking back often waiting to read your analysis of Kealoha Pilares’ injury. Much mahalos for using simple laymen’s words so we non-medical peeps get a clear picture of your unofficial opinion and his speculated recovery time. Thanks very much for your time and expertise. 🙂
Warrior Football Players –
Every single one of you guys is so good-looking and macho to the max, but Kealoha Pilares…don’t want to embarrass you, but a lot of ladies (myself at the front of the line) would give our eye teeth for beautiful eyes like yours with those oh-so-long, thick eyelashes. You lucky buggah! 😎
Sending best wishes for a SPEEDY and COMPLETE recovery from your foot injury.
Hawaiianbod: No, no chocolate cake today. I missed that, but there was some awesome bread pudding!
ST: Thank you, for the Tyler info. I think I understand what is going on now. Our prayers go out to Tyler and his family.
Ronnie,
2 will be just fine..
Stephen Tsai –
RE: Post #123
A-House asked me to re-read your post, which I did. I’m so sorry I misunderstood you…you talk (post) too fast for me. I was momentarily consumed with misguided greedy thoughts…my bad. But I’m still going to dress up just in case Inoke drops by. 😉
Evening Tsai-kos!
*stepping on to da soapbox*
Ahem. *tap tap tap* Testing 1 2 3…
First of all, I must apologize to those that I accused of being bandwagon fans who in actuality weren’t.
That being said, I respectfully request that before anyone posts a “vent” or any type of post, please do the following things in order:
1. Take a deep breath and count to 10
2. Compose your post
3. Repeat step 1
4. Review your post – give me an inkling that you are not a bandwagon fan or a flamer. Please make sure that if all you are doing is criticizing the team that it is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4
6. Repeat step 5 as many times as necessary until you are calm
7. Click on “Submit Comment”
Since I have been reading this blog, I have learned a lot about football from our esteemed students of the game (eg pride, Jason, Garret, kazz, and many others). I would much rather read their well-reasoned analyses of the game than some rant from people who I’ve never heard of before. Their passion for the game and for the team comes through in their writings.
Thank you for listening.
We now return you to your regular programming.
*steps off soapbox*
jm2375:
Guess you are off the hook for all my broken sprinkler heads this morning…;-)
Ehhhhhhh…. who broke the soapbox!!! 😈
The results of possible (and secret) personnel experiments should be interesting to see against Nevada. One never knows, something might just click and BAM!
Many times players practice well, but can’t translate during game time and vice versa.
Let’s go Warriors, the all important stretch run is coming up.
Kekoa – howzit? Didja find my “gift”?
(J)J – there’s supposedly some good Cuban food in Tampa too. What no mini-cc with FT? Sorry, I’m a theme park junkie. Best thing about Tampa is Busch Gardens.
Curveball – you sure it wasn’t Homey? So where is da guy?
Happy birthday to Kinda Shy. That’s some pretty disappointing news to hear about Kealoha. He really is one of our best players and we’ll need him later in the season if we are going bowling. Too bad that Tyler is Physically Unable to Perform. He waited all of the years behind Colt and ends up hurt for his Senior year.
mrs. ahouse…..does long’s still sell those false eyelashes made from horse hair????
evening tsai-ko country a warm night yea
reading so much news, concerns and new info tonight.
🙁 ouch with pilares out trying to make a bowl game looks very challenging. need to win 4 out of the next 6 games. any guesses to which are guaranteed winnable?
this year seems very strange 😕 with all these injuries. I do not recall a year like this in quite a while.
agree if hisatake not in the pic for oline give him his shoot on defense 😈
best wishes 😀 to kind shy on her special day.
Both places provide different atmosphere’s but very accommodating. Midori, uh808 and rob25 has visited Hawaii Kai while kekoa has been to Bay View twice. Remember we wanted to spread the tgates around. It will be nice to see how the east and windward side match up the ceded lands. So stay turned for more updated information.
Al –
Yes, they do…how many pairs did you buy and does Mrs. Al know you have a penchant for “falsies”? 😉
(Turning soap box into splinters)
1. Spit on constructive critique from vertically challenged person or persons of questionable nationality who try to wreck my playhouse.
2. Holding breath.
3. Repeating 1 & 2 above.
4. Not going listen (la-la-la-la-la)
5. Repeating step 4.
More 49er info: Ray Ratto – won’t be attending any parties held by the Yorks….
😯 😀
Uhhhh, Kekoa, how do you hold your breath and spit at the same time? 😆 🙄
Good Evening Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Kinda Shy-
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! Hope you’re having a beautiful birthday day (filled with all that you wish for, maybe a few Tsaiko “F”s, and yummy cake! Please come by to one of our T-gates.
Midori7-
Please put me down for Nov 1 UH/Utah game. I think a-joe is coming too. I think I want the steak and eggs…or the french toast. Hmmm…..or maybe both. Not sure what a-joe wants.
Curveball ~ I have a cousin (excuse me wafan, it really is another cousin of mine) that owns a fence company contracted by the Navy to protect their secret stuff.
He can build me a fence that will keep a certain individual from penetrating our playhouse perimeter. I do believe he said that it would deliver an electrifying experience.
The emergence of Brent Rausch come to life?
He is the best pure passer we have
mrs. ahouse….
(gulp)
“a pair of falsies in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
“better to have a falsie than to have none at all.”
i am not sure if those were quotations from abraham lincoln or bruce lee?
jm2375….kekoa can do it.
let him demonstrate for you on saturday.
Kekoa:
I was considering contacting the “sprinkler head police” but the fence sounds good..oh..I already have one
jm2375 ~ Very easily done my dear. Spit, hold breath and conjure up more saliva, and spit again.
Then, if any more criticisim is heard, I just go, “La-la-la-la-lah!” until you stop….and then repeat the process all over again.
al – I meant to tell you I finally did the King crab from Costco deal. One leg = 1.2 lbs. The meat was about 1″ diameter! Whoah – ono! 😀 😀 😀 😀
…. actually, near the body, the meat was more like 1.5″ diameter! 😀
Good evening all. Hope you all had a great day.
Happy Birthday to Kinda Shy! May you have many, many more.
Was looking forward to practice tomorrow but it will be closed to the public.
See you all on Saturday.
midori 7 ~ As soon as we get past the Nevada game, I will email you my reservation to the November one TV-gate. I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself. One game…and clear, for the rest of the season. If we knock ’em down one at a time, there’ll be a *Bowl* invitation to consider at the end. Hehehe!
Happy Birthday last of the Libras KindaShy!
Came across a real treasure while starting the long-term task of organizing/transferring to DVDs more that 600 hours of video recordings – two otherwise unmarked DVDs labeled (1) and (2). When I played them, it turns out that they are last season’s Boise State game at Aloha Stadium plus a number of post-game shows. Anyone interested in seeing the game again – perhaps at a T-Gate? .
Will there be music again this Saturday?
Midori7 -There will be two of us at the T-Gate on November 1 – will let you know about the food by tomorrow evening.
myki & sjmacro ~ Coach Mack considers us Practice Premium Grass Seat Season Ticket Holders, right?
We can ask him at ‘Call da Coach’ show.
Hi Kekoa-
Das funny. 😀
Al –
Thank you for your “weird” quotes. It will take me a while to digest the content and intended messages. Don’t hold your breath for my follow-up comment(s)…(why do I have the urge to send these quotes to my circular file?) har, har, har…
“” = 😀
Al ~ Serious question. Do you have any information on a possible LB recruit from Kahuku named Dereck Aiwohi?
brew….did you wash them down with the contents of a green bottle?
heineken, stella, peroni, or all of the above would do.
A-Sports ~ Check your email in a few minutes. As acting Chief of Police of the Ceded lands, I have some very incriminating photos to show you concerning a person of interest while you were off island. Hehehe…
mrs. ahouse…..how did you do that?
kekoa…..i saw him on the tube once or twice. he looks like a playa. i was wondering if he was related to a friend. he told me all aiwohi’s were related.
Will do, Kekoa.
Was just IMing with a friend. He might join us for tailgate this weekend.
What is interesting in reading the many messages is that there are still calls for the other QBs especially when things don’t go “Colt like” for Mr. Funaki.
There are calls for Graunke because he understand the R&S best or Alexander because he’s tall and can see over the line or Rausch because he’s the best pure passer. They may be all of that of what is being said of them but maybe they are all lacking in an intangible that Mr. Funaki demonstrates: leadership. He may not be the tallest, throw the ball the farthest or understand the R&S as well as the others, but if can lead, maybe, just maybe Mr. Funaki maybe the best we have at the moment to get us to where we want to be until we can find another who would be “Colt like” who was tall enough, could throw far enough, understands the R&S and above all can command a team and lead.
Mr. Funaki is not “Colt like” but he has that something and we as fans need to support the continuing growth of that intangible and maybe, just maybe he’ll show us that someone who is not tall enough, who doesn’t have a cannon arm or doesn’t fully understand the intricate moves of the R&S can lead, inspire and take us to some victories we do all so much want to see the team achieve.
Kekoa-
I finally got a chance to do some keyboard exercises on da computah.

If I were going to attending the SportsGrill – Koko Marina Shopping Ctr on Nov. 1, I’d order the p-sausage moco and try borrowing some of Addahknowsports’ French toast. Oh – and lots of coffee. 😀 😯 😆
Eh-Sports– BTW – where are the pix of the fuud from you visit w/ Liz to Rob’s Good Times Grill on Sunday? Did you eat the photos too?!! 😯 😆 🙄
Hi all!
Have a great time at the game this weekend! Cheer for me…cheer loud as I will be across the big water in big “D” finding me a good steak, no oysters, to gnaw on before I watch the Cowboys….win? Either way it will be a great experience!
OK Mrs. A-House…I understand about paying for the pay-per-view but it doesn’t come with the camraderie and fun of watching with a room full of Tsaikos! How about part of the game?
Rich: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about you not really having to brave it amongst the nice, but condescending fans of Boise. They really think that they are better than us. Ronnie told me of the hateful things they say on their boards about us being the worst fans in the country. I guess they haven’t been to a Fresno game! At least their fans I can take, they can’t be condescending since we’ve beaten them at their place, but then again they don’t have that cheatin’ blue turf. No other conference is going to stand for that. How is that good sportsmanship…I’m intimidated by it…or at least that’s what I will say since that tool Dooley said that about our ha’a and it got us penalized. Oh wait, Fresno played the perfect game, no penalties…and not win! Ronnie even told me about the Boise band marching while the Hawaii team was doing the ha’a…the nerve!
Kekoa: Are you, Pops, and Diana going to the tvgate @ Therapy?
I would offer my helmet as a prize, but NO I ain’t crazy and I am going to get it autographed at the Na Koa banquet in December. Ronnie and I were thinking that we needed one long table that seats twenty so that we can all be together and that they should put us near the team. Ronnie offered that we would be okay with the small round tables but put them side-by-side so that we can rotate seating arrangements and be able to socialize with each other. Any thoughts?
OK maybe just wishful thinking. Wow long rambling post…sorry about that. Just had to get it out of my system before I leave and am not on very much. I’m not lucky enough to have an iphone yet.
Good night all and
GO WARRIORS!
P.S. ST did Mack remember about my hubby or did you gently remind him? Either way thanks for sharing that!
NY Jets fans are sure bidding like crazy for those personal seat licenses!
It might sound crazy, but I think it would be bad for Oklahoma State to get ahead by too much in the first half when they play Texas. I can imagine that they would start having flashbacks to past games. I can still remember when Oklahoma State was up 35-7 and Texas won 56-35!
I think people need to stop giving up so easily on Funaki. Did we give up on Colt when he threw 5 against Ints against Idaho and 4 against SJSU last year? Its the quarterback merry go round that I think hurt them early on. Besides, though I haven’t been able to watch the game,I heard some had been miscommunication and that’s probably because this unit has not been together like colt and his receiving corps in years before.
Look, who would have ever though we would have a chance to be in the Hawaii Bowl. We can’t expect perfection all the time and we got to enjoy the sight of a young team growing before our eyes. You can see the improvement. After the disastrous road trip early on, they came back to beat Fresno on their home field and kept with Boise on theirs. Most people including me early on thought they had no chance and would take a drubbing.
We need to give our support to Funaki and this young offense.
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.
Interesting that German special forces were in Afghanistan for 3 years without actually doing any missions. And now they are leaving Afghanistan without ever having left their base!
University of Manchester researcher developed a scanner that would allow travelers to keep their shoes on at airports and also make things more secure for travelers. It is also supposed to be relatively cheap when it is ready for mass production, so I hope they get this quickly ready for the market!
Recently declassified documents reveal that 2 US fighter planes were ordered to shoot down a UFO flying over the English countryside in 1957. The fighter pilot had the OK to fire and was ready to shoot 24 rockets at the “flying aircraft carrier” when the UFO disappeared.
Al
Actually, Dereck’s Grandmother contacted me. She is an old friend of my Pops. She asked if Dereck might have a shot at playing for UH. Aside from his size, speed, and LB skills, he carries a high grade point average.
I was a bit surprised when she said that he had not been contacted, because I always thought the kid was a good prospect. That’s why I asked if you had any conflicting info on him.
I’ll pass him on to Tony T. to check on. The kid’s going into the Navy if someone doesn’t come calling…thing is, he can’t swim!
Nah, I’m just kidding!
Pretty cool that the Marines in Afghanistan adopted these stray dogs and cats and that the animals helped make their deployment more bearable.
West Virginia allows their citizens to vote early, which is a good test for the new and hopefully “improved” touch-screen voting machines. Unfortunately, there are at 6 six reported cases of the machine switching the votes–the voter choose the Democratic candidate and the machine switched his/her vote to the Republican candidate. There may have been other cases, but if people didn’t check over their ballots they wouldn’t know about the problem. There are no reported cases yet of a vote for a Republican being switched to the Democratic candidate. Unfortunately, those voting machines have had a LOT of problems around the country already and are STILL going to be used for the upcoming election.
hey guys.

Howzit everybody,
Just been lurking and reading. There has been some good stuff said and some that I just don’t understand. Just know that when Coach Mac and the rest of the Coaches focus on something it gets done. I have no doubt in my mind that the boys will be ready and fired for this game. I no doubt that they will work on the things that need to be worked on.
i want to go to the game, and im looking for a place to stay from Friday till i leave on sunday. can anyone help??
Brew-
I like a little something sweet on the side. If you were at SportsTherapy in Hawaii Kai, I would share some with you. btw, how’s that coffee mug working out?
With all the work I did that morning, I was hungry and inhaled the food before Liz could snap the picture. For the record it was shrimp tempura. Your crab sounded delicious.
Kekoa-
You devil, you. Check your email.
Rob25-
Please check your email. A-joe might have sent you an email.
I haven’t given up on Inoke and think that he can definitely do the job if he’s given time to go through his reads and if he and the WRs are in sync. However, after the last game I posted that I *am* worried about the cumulative effect on the hits that he takes when he is in the pocket plus the hits he takes on runs (options, bootlegs, scrambles, etc.). I worry that other teams will take BSU’s strategy of hitting Inoke as often as possible to try to decrease his effectiveness as the game goes along…in fact, before the game I predicted BSU would do that.
I just threw out an idea over the weekend about how maybe Inoke could get a break for a play here or there and someone like Alexander or Rausch or even a RB could take the snap. One of the backup QBs could have a limited set of plays to run and be really good at those few plays to give Inoke a break. Or, a RB could take a direct snap like so many college and even pro teams are doing now.
I’m very curious about the new offensive variation that UH will install for the Nevada game. The coaches did a great job in adjusting the offense for Inoke, and I’m guessing they will do a great job with these new changes…and the surprise factor will help the Warriors in this critical game vs. Nevada. I’m sure that they have much better ideas about the changes needed, as they know a lot more than me about the game and their players.
Hiya A-Sports!
He did but alas they were already cockroached! I’m sorry!
Please let me know about any of the remaining. I would really like to see you two cheering with me!
Gonna miss seeing all of you this weekend, but will be thinking about everyone and the team!
Did anybody see this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcdWdBgUBqw
The ref actually follows the South Carolina quarterback like a Linebacker and tackles him. What the heck was the ref thinking about? Imagine if this was an game changing play that go derailed because of this. The amazing part is the ref wasn’t disciplined. Next they will be intercepting passes and running it in for a TD.
Rob25-
Have lots of fun! I know you will be cheering loud!
Rob25 ~ Bon Voyageee! I will need extreme *Therapy* by the time you get back!
Have fun! Tell my other favorite cheerleaders “Howdy!”
Re: Post #317 above…WTF?? That looks pretty deliberate to me. It’s not like he was in danger of being run over by the QB. There has got to be follow-up to this episode.
Okay, back to work. Esme and ouuuuuuuuuut.
Hi Rob25, Do have a wonderful and safe trip. Our best to Frank. Tell him that our thoughts and prayers are with him and thank him and his men for us.
We will be cheering for you on Saturday.
Poidog in Sportshawaii’s forum wrote this in response to HawaiianHogster, which I thought did very well in explaining one of the critical differences between this year’s RnS versus the past few years and why we are having difficulties in the passing game. Thought I’d share it with all of you.
Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes! You are all so special! Boy, you never know whose lurking….former intramural teammates, newfound friends, dorm friends, prom dates, wow…
Sorry we can’t make it to the tailgate. I will be with an MTV production crew filming the UH cheerleaders for a two-hour special called Rah!. They will be at the Wahine volleyball match and the football game this weekend and I have to excort the to be sure they don’t break any NCAA rules.
You are the best! And ST, Jim is the real star!!
Happy B-day, Kinda Shy.
Kinda Shy- awesome! We have FAN-tastic cheerleaders! Thanks for the cool news!
MissingUHfootball: That umpire was a linebacker in his playing days, too. Spurrier played nice and said the umpire was trying to get out of the way … :-O
Rob25 tell hubby our raider nation has a one game win streak going, whoopee!
Rob25 – I’ve got a picture of how close the BSU band was to the players when they perfomed the ha’a. Kinda disrespectful.
I just created a google picasa account today and willl post some albums of calf calls and other photos.
Buffoman – like I said from the Fresno trip – the amount of respect that Inoke received from his team mates was amazing when he joined them in the hotel lobby. I can’t describe it, but those guys would give every last ounce of blood for him.
Congrats Ralph. You and my cousin are the only 2 Raider fans I know that are still faithful to the Silver & Black…besides Frank of course. My cousin has a pair of season tickets, lives in Mililani and attends every game in Oakland, and some road games too at times. Dedicated!
Kinda Shy:
We were once on the same softball team. (We brought you in as as ringer.)
My hand is still sore from playing catch with you before the game.
Tuika Tufaga was wearing a Raider Nation shirt today. It was in the silver and black. In the corner, right above Raider was the word “Red.”
Ah, Kahuku lives on.
St,
You have to use a glove!! LOL!
kekoa……aol is calling.
Kinda Shy….that’s kind of a misnomer, eh? Picture tita local girl who slaps/hits you in the arm for emphasis during discussion. Once a country girl, always a country girl. Only had a chance to meet her a couple of times, but both she and Jim are some of the most down to earth folks you’d ever meet. Happy Birthday to you!
Mahalo Al…good information!
So…our o-line is set same as the last game then? Letuli starting at LG…isn’t he one of our better tackles? Ah…too much shuffling already. Lack of continuity can’t be helping the unit.
Blaze really have a shot to play this weekend? Brashton’s shoulder still subluxed?
Darren,
You’re right, I am still a country girl and proud of it!
Nice to “see” you! It was very nice meeting you a couple of years ago at the anniversary party. How is the family?

but somebody explain to me,
exactly what,
what was palin thinking appearing in “saturday night live”.
i can’t believe it.
arrrgggghhh.
eh darren how you doing?
saturday….tailgate?
Kids are doing well…getting into multiple sports and activities. I’m sure you folks know the drill. We enjoy it though…it’s hard to believe how fast they grow. I think I’m going to be an emotional wreck like Stephen when the girls fly the coop, so we’re really living the moments as they come. Thanks for asking.
And how’s your family? When can we start reading about those Donovan young ones in the local sports section of our favority paper? It seems as though they’re in possession of some pretty decent athletic genes.
Al…tailgate sounds like an option this weekend. Wouldn’t mind stopping by to see how everyone’s doing…it’s been a while.
hey guys im looking for a place 2 stay from friday to sunday for the game and the tgate. if anyone can help me out
Darren,
Our daughter just finished volleyball and is getting ready for her next sport. Josh just finished football and will play baseball in the winter and spring. When can you read about them in the HA? Dunno…more importantly, we want them to get good grades and be great people! Jim and I feel that when you have balance in your life, everything else falls into place.
Take care and good night.
You guys just being humble again…of course they’ll have good grades and be great people. They have pretty good role models to follow. Glad to hear all is well with what I’m sure is a pretty hectic life for you folks. I’m out too…good night.
AL:
SNL is an easier stint than, say, “Meet the Press”.
Ukuleleboi ~ Sorry I still have family staying on at my place this weekend. I’ll keep checking around for a place for you. Kaipo and Keoni each have a full house as family members decided to stay there longer as well.
Hau’oli la hanau, Kinda Shy!!!
Get well soon to the guys on the team. Go get ’em this weekend, Warriors!
Prayers out for Obama’s Tutu & the ‘ohana.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Uncle Kekoa – another RAIDER NATION in the HOUSE!!!
Been a fan dating back to the LA Raider days when i used to live in the Long Beach/Banning area. After attending my first game, i was hooked.
When i moved back home i met Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen at a Sunday service at New Hope. Great guy so humble.
*knuckle bump* Ralph
JUST WIN BABY
Been absent for awhile…busy with the festival and some other business.
Anyone planning on attending the San Diego Asian Film Festival in Riverside this week? I’ll be there from beginning to end, running around like crazy.
Great first half. Too bad they couldn’t put the second half together. Funaki did ok considering non support from receivers and O-line. BS palyed the second half much to my expectations. Squeeze the run and make Funaki throw. Disappointing to see the O-line getting bullrushed so easily. Maybve that’s why Mc is holding auditions to get true Warriors on the first tetam.
We’ll definitely see a new team this week.
GO WARRIORS!!!!
Kazz … so weird: How come it’s only now that I saw your post that you thought the Gridiron sounded interesting? I swear I looked at the posts around that time period several times. Eyes must be going bad. Anyway, so cool if you would come. Good cause! Lotsa laffs! 😉
Chawan, thanks for the good thoughts. It’s a crazy time in our industry, that is for sure.
Sorry can’t type for S—!
ok darren see you there.
Mahalo, Kekoa! da Boi is turning into one football fan!
Al- re your 340- haha. One of my fave SNL politicians was Bob Dole. I wasn’t too keen on him til he went on SNL. He was quite a sport and a funny guy.
Nitey Nite and Sweet Warrior Dreams!
tom……that was a good one!
One last post before I go to sleep.
Hi myki! Thanks and I will pass your regards on to Frank and his young men. Gonna miss you guys this weekend, but I am confident that you will cheer enough for me!
Rich – Can you send me the link so that I can get angry again! 👿 😆
Ralph – Yeah ditto Hawaiianbod and knuckle bump to you from Frank
I’m not even done packing and I still have to get Frank some manapua and pork hash tomorrow! 😯
Esme and out!
esmeralda……….how you been?
wow, first this morning and now back for the night shift…..amazing!
so when are you going to make a game?

Nitey nite!
Thanks al!
I do like their baked char siu bao and it’s not too far from my office. I have to get them early and freeze though. My flight isn’t until 10 p.m. on United to Denver.
Bon Voyage, Rob25 and have a great time watching BigD!
finally caught up with reading all todays post and to tired to say stuff except
wow cut off so good night all
have a safe trip Rob, but seems like you’re heading the wrong direction from Dallas….doesn’t Delta fly direct to Dallas….
just read Tsai’s Tuesday warrior notes-Steinhoff was warned twice by line judge that he is not lined properly allowing him to adjust and preventing the warriors from being penalized for offsides. and he is called for another improper alignment for 5 yard penalty, what gives with Steinhoff? I’m surprised the ref didn’t simply flag him for 3 infractions. A two year starter has to be smarter than this, is he hedging for a bull rush from BSU #83 or #93 DE that pancaked him onto Inoke as seen on Monday’s sports cast.
what took coach Mac and Malloe so long to realize that we weren’t gaining any yardage on punt returns…12 returns for minus 4 yards, not counting the number of punts Washington let bounce along its merry way…
HIFlyer are you lurking?
Hiya Ralph, been trying to catch up on the blog and the news. About ready to hit the hay.
Great morning all!
Heal quickly and completely, Warriors! We need you back — pronto!!!
And, to those not on the field, be crazy supportive. Learn the plays and techniques. Sharpen your saw!!!
Wow the blog clock is 13 minutes fast.
last night’s news

Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Running a little late, time for me to get ready to go over to Liz’s island. Be back later today.
Not going to be back in time for the Call the Coach show, for the Tsaikos attending, please have a $1 Heine for me, or maybe two or three…
Great Morning All.
Boy finally feeling like I got caught up on my sleep from the weekend traveling….
Ralph,
Agree wicchu on #368 and #369; mid season adjustments are definitely needed.
Dennis Green is now a professor at San Diego State!
morning gang!
how’s everybody doing?
too bad about the closed practices, i guess no stretch reports this week
the boys can prepare and focus on the next opponent without distraction
Coach Rolo on 1420 now
Howzit Loa 🙂
d1島 – howzit, welcome back, how was the big island? cold?
ST up early, see you on the othe side
Some comments from Rolo to BC.
re: Mack’s comments
We’re a passing team…We’re gonna have to throw the ball to win; it’s what we all want to do.
re: GA in BOI game
He’s made a little bit more progress…did some mature things…there was urgency…went thru progressions…..got to his 4th progression….#2 guy by not a very wide margin….
re: BR
He’s probably gotten the short end of the stick…he’s being a good teammate…been in the weight room, is over 200 #
Good morning Tsaiko Sons & Daughters!
We are 3 point underdogs to Nevada. Grrr! I’m thinking Wolf Pack stew for the T-gate!

Agree with your concerns. On point. Swap em if need be. Cumulative effect of getting pounded will wear any person down. This being said, of all the QBs available, I would take Funaki into battle with me before I would take any of the others.
Kind of too late now to do to the O Line what needs to be done. For next year, the coaches should run the O Line hard. Two miles a day to begin with, every day except Sunday. Three miles a day everyday during regular season, followed by sprints. Five sprints across the entire field, every day, before and after practice. We need guys who can go full speed for six quarters. If our guys can do this during practices, then they can and will go full speed for four quarters with relative ease, without slumping over, hands on hips, gasping for breath.
We have big guys. All we need to do is to get them into better shape than their competitors. We have been too soft on these guys, as well as the rest of the team with regards to conditioning. UH needs to institute a program involving more running. Weight room training appears to be sufficient. We just need the entire team to do more road work. The lack of road work, for the entire team, is apparent. Our guys keep running out of gas early, there is no explosive burst after the initial contact, and guys fall down after the first touch.
In football if you are more fit than your opponent, nine out of 10 times you will beat your opponent.
Our O Line and Receivers are just not fit to the point where they are regularly and routinely beating their opponents, one on one and as a team. More important than personnel changes at this point, UH needs to understand that the fundamental flaw in its approach is in conditioning. All that off season running does pay off.
You know? I’m wondering if Mac and Ron will have different packages each of the QBacks. Maybe GA or BR will come in with their own set of receivers and rb to run a few plays to give Inoke a break from time to time.
