College prep
Ratings change all of the time.
Besides, when it comes to recruiting, there are different preferences for different schools. Someone’s top prospect might not be on another school’s list. That said, here’s one analyst’s list of the state’s top college prospects entering the 2011 season:
• Luke Kaumatule, defensive end, Punahou
• DeForest Buckner, defensive end, Punahou
• Pasoni Tasini, defensive end, Baldwin
• Psalm Wooching, running back, Kealakehe
• Shane Brostek, offensive lineman, Hawaii Prep
• Kory Rasmussen, defensive tackle, Kamehameha
• MacKenzie Togafau, offensive lineman, McKinley
• Kalei Auelua, defensive end, Saint Louis
• Pono Keni, offensive lineman, Saint Louis
• Kris Hugley, linebacker, Radford

Utah and UH are entered in the battle for receiver Delshawn McClellon of Gahr High School. UH had an evaluation visit at Gahr Monday. Utah offensive coordinator Norm Chow visited Gahr yesterday. This afternoon, Utah made an offer to McClellon.

Greg Salas will wear No. 87 for the Rams this season, if there is a season.
Famous No. 87s: Sidney Crosby, Regge Wayne and Dwight Clark.

Morning, again!
Prep, guys, prep.
Morning!
AFL, CFL, UFL, NFL… what’s the one in Hawaii called?
Kauai Warrior fans, here’s your chance to talk to Coach Mack.
http://www.nakoa.org/?p=1164
Good morning everyone!
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
And how are you DPK?
AL – reminder – decal – lost my identity without it!
#157 Derek It wasn’t as you stated “All those home runs last year was in part because of the bats and it seemed Wahine batters were trying to go for the fences.” Look at this year’s BA, it is markedly lower as a team and individually than last year. The bat did not contribute to this, simply put, if a player’s hit total goes south, chances are the home runs totals will also go south. It happened but it wasn’t for lack of hard work.
Again, my condolences to Kameron’s ohana.
The WAC has quietly rescheduled a make-up game between Fresno State and Nevada tomorrow at the bulldog’s Pete Beiden Field.
FSU (16-7) is currently in second place, a game-and-a-half behind Hawaii (15-5).
Both teams have clinched a first-day bye heading into the WAC Tournament hosted at Hohokam Stadium May 25-28/29, Mesa, Arizona.
The basebows needs any combination of three–Hawaii wins or a Fresno State loss to take the regular season title and the Tournament’s No. 1 seed.
The Aggies are coming off a devasting 4-game series on the road where fresno swept them and hammered aggie hurlers for 55-runs and were 10-run ruled twice….ouch!
ST,
Re: top college prospects —
there was a time when Roosevelt High would have placed high on that list. But glad to see Radford (my kids’ alma mater) mentioned.
Good morning Tsaikos!
As was discussed the other day, some interesting names on the list. Psalm, DeForest (parents fans of Star Trek?). Is Kory Rasmussen any relation to Jeff Rasmussen?
Good news on the Wahine vb recruiting front. I thought ST was talking about 2012 recruits, not 2013!! Cool…
#157 Derek “The team couldn’t handle the stress of all that success and wasn’t tough enough.” It wasn’t the success of 2010 that led to any stress, they handled success well and never dwelled on it this season and Coolen at the beginning of the year during Fall practice told the girls that what they accomplished last year won’t be discussed hereafter, it’s over, they have a new season to build on.
How tough do you want the girls to be, they worked hard at every practice, came out to the game determined to win. They loss ten games by one run, disappointment, definitely, but it wasn’t because they weren’t “tough enough”. It’s softball, it happens, and unfortunately it happened to the girls. Ricketts and Parnaby pitched well, so did the opponent’s pitcher, and they weren’t blown away in most of their losses.
I think in women’s volleyball, they plan a couple of years out.
Besides, in volleyball, club competition is more important, it seems, than high school competition.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Congrats SaberCats!
Nice colors!!!
hiho!
#157 Derek “The sad thing is that I love the Wahine team and I feel bad about how they lost.”
Derek, keep coming to the games or follow them when your time permits. Like the success of 2010, the team will put the disappointment of 2011 in back of them and move forward.
You can also support them as a booster by joining Na Wahine Softball Boosters

Cool Sabercats! Do we get any of the games from the AFL, UFL here? Don’t tell me I have to get a cable box…ugh!
LizK, you’re right! Nice colors.
al and tommui re decal

#5 Yea! Gonna help tunalvr hustle up some good door prizes and get the word out on Kauai!
At least I get to see those guys play when they come to Spokane later this AFL season
I like indoor football. Had a great time going to those AFL2 games they had in Hawaii.
Great fights, too.
Re: UH TV channel
Why wouldn’t Time Warner agree to Oceanic’s plan to install a UH TV channel? UH sports sells well. If they charge all Oceanic households $5 or more per month, think of the moolah coming in.
coolen needs to re-examine some his methods also. It’s not all on the wahine.
one of the most glaring critcisms fell on the batting…..no need for detail on this blogsite, other than to say there are some that feel passionate about it.
we know coach bob handles the pitchers and shuffles the batting order.
his two aces did well and distinguished themselves. kudos to ricketts and parnaby as well as coach coolen.
tweaking the batting order sometimes proves useful but this season, it didnt fix the problem.
another problem was the high expectations created by coolen himself when he declared in preseason that his team would be reloading and not rebuilding as has happened in the past when the wahine fell a notch or two after successful seasons.
hopefully wahine and coaches alike learn from 2011 and move in a positive direction.
there are lessons from this season for both pupil and mentor to share……best wishes to wahine team & staff 2012.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Top Twenny Five!
Some tough looking “Cats” above! Good luck to them!
Hey Tom and mctruck.
damning with faint praise…
yawn
Psalm Wooching. Love that name.

Dagnabbit Liz! First you yawn, now I’m yawning… 😉
Howzit, everyone!
Finally stopped raining, and it’s starting to warm up a little. Three field trips this week for da school-age kids… two to Cedar Point… one to the Detroit Zoo.
No matter how these ‘top-prospects’ lists come out, I’m glad our coaches go everywhere else and turn every rock to find the hiddn gems!
Howzit MW!
Cedar Point? The amusement park with all the roller coasters? Screecher and I are jealous.
BTW, I watched the end of Hawaii Five-0 again this morning. Think it was Hedder, not Heidi, Ilustre in the line-up with Kono. My bad.
It wasn’t that the Wahine didn’t work hard. I believe they it, physically. When I meant by tough, it means mentally tough, not the physical part. Unfortunately, in baseball, or in this case softball a lot of it is betwenn the ears. When things get down things go south. The question is if the team pick themselves up and can turn it around. The Wahine did not adjust enough, or execute enough to pull out some of the close ones. Do we need a very good batting coach? I don’t know. Ricketts and Parnaby were very good. They are not dominant like some others, so we needs to score on average about 4 runs per game to win.
How many times did the Wahine score 2 or less runs in a game?
Everybody is entitled to their opinion, right! I hope next season will be a season to remember as we begin play in the Big West.
The team that does the best recruiting year in and year out is women’s volleyball. Shoji has got to win another National Championship soon. It’s been a long time. Why? It is a hell of a lot more competitive and a lot of teams have very good players across the country. To even make it to the Final Four is difficult. To win the whole thing is special. I see the weakness for this year’s team is the libero position, passing, and serving. Hitting and Blocking are the 2 strengths. Uiato, I hope, will be very good as the setter. One Wahine I am high on coming in as a freshman is Jane Croson.
ESPN reports Georgia softball leads the NCAA in home runs with 84.
Arizona Softball 2010 107 HRs 2011 72 HRs. Georgia hit 99 in 2010
We have one last spring softball season in the WAC.
2012 Spring WAC Softball will consist of the same people except BYU replaces BSU.

Hmmm.. is the other spelled…”(r)ear”?
“A yawn may not be polite, but at least it is an honest opinion”. Voltaire
Maybe the BCS should simply award any team that goes undefeated in a season, whose schedule includes at least 11 D-1 opponents, a million from the coffers. $250,000 for teams with only one loss against a similar schedule… Then split the rest of the money in the bowls.
DPK…
How ya doing?
Too much hardcore softball in the beginning of the season burned the girls out. What was to gain from a hard preseason? Maybe limiting the preseason next year might make for a stronger run through the regular season
Injuries, fatigue, lack of interest are all signs burnout
I’m guud MIH. Hows you?
DPK…
Same ole.. same ole.. still a work in progress…
RE #39
Guess what I’m saying is that the BCS should BRIBE us non-AQ to keep the status quo.. oddawise change.
Keep tha faith, baby, thass alls ya can do. 😉 Good luck and prayers to you.
Das right, DPK… keep da faith and wass da name of the other girl? BTW… sent you email.
shorebreak, the Na Wahine needs the tough preseason for the RPI ratings, once the WAC season starts their RPI goes down because the WAC teams do not play a tough enough schedule in out of conference match ups.
The NCAA selection committee uses the RPI in selecting the at large teams for the regional.
Ralph/shorebreak,
D*mned if you do, D*mned if you don’t…
five oh
Good afternoon, everyone!
As Les Murakami would say, “to be the best, you have to play the best.” A good tough preseason schedule early, I think, is a good thing. It tests the players from the get go, especially if the regular conference schedule is weaker. Conversly, the PAC 10 schedule is so tough that anything in pre-season is an easy schedule. That’s the way it is.
Look at UH baseball this year. Early season tough games against nationally ranked Oregon and Texas helped UH see where they measure up early. And I think it helped the Rainbows see that they can become a good team and that they can compete if they play well and execute. They know where their shortcomings are, but this team doesn’t give up until the last out. They have proved it on many times this year already.
For the UH football team, I think it is a good thing that they are starting out playing Colorado at home, then Washington on the road. These are Pac 12 teams and have lots of good Division I talent, but they are also beatable in the respect that they are not Top 15
Wafan, thanks for your comment on my blog, but if the woman says NO, then the guy should zip his pants.
A no is still a no.
#51,
Washington has been lackluster at best recently and Colorado is not even in the top 75 in the nation probably…
If we win it wouldn’t be worth bragging about, if we lose well that would just plain suck.
At least its not Washington State and Colorado.
GG . . .
I agree! No means no.
Still, he is not guilty until proven guilty.
Besides, who said she said, “No”? Perhaps she changed her mind for whatever reason(s).
If the NCAA truly doesn’t have a say, then it also doesn’t have a say in declaring the bowl eligibility of players. All of those random drug tests? Don’t apply, right?
GG . . .
Besides, he did not have any pants on to zip.
She should have simply bitten down hard.
Appears the Pac-12 is starting to notice the talent on the outer islands. Psalm is getting some interest.
Steinhoff boy from HPU who passed away……tragic story. Relation to Keoni? Send your prayers and medicine songs to his ohana and friends.
BIK
I sure hope we CRUSH the Colorado Buffs on opening day. Our boys are notorious for slow starts. I hope we pour it on in the 1st Quarter and NEVER take our feet of the gas pedal. A convincing win over a bcs conference opponent may be just what the doctor ordered for our 2011 warriors.
BIK
BIK:
Keoni’s brother.
BIK:
UH actually has been working on the game plan for quite a while. They found some links that it feels will be helpful.
#61 – ah, that’s right, they got a jump start on Colorado by watching videos the last day of spring “practice”
Why did we lose the Hawaii Bowl, though? We were woefully unprepared.
Hey, Stretch:
Lauren Cheape wants to know if you’d like to enter a team in the Miss Hawaii 2011 Golf Tournament. It’s May 27 at the Pearl Country Club.
Looks like UH offered John Ursua:
http://utah.scout.com/a.z?s=365&p=8&c=1&nid=5200255
#63,
We played a team which was better and more prepared than we were. The fact that it was such a bloodbath is what makes it hard to swallow.
There is a sure way to gain success that never fails as far as I know. Start strong and finish stronger. Hawaii has been lacking that for the past few years.
I do think that the MWC invite all that jazz has given our program a fresh breath of air.
It’ll be a tougher league to play in and I can only hope that our recruits will be top notch and prepared for that challenge.
If the MWC gets the BCS waiver, even more so will we be inclined to do our share in keeping the conference competitive by winning our OCC games etc and doing whatever we can to strengthen our schedule.
“Not giving up until the last out.”
If a team loses 2-3 or 1-2 did they give up until the last out? 90% will say yes they did. They win 3-2 or win 2-1 100% will say they did not.
Yup, damned if you are and damned if you don’t.
Seems like the definition of “playing until the last out” is defined as simply winning in the last moment, nevermind the fact that those falling short were also busting their butts of trying to do what they can, but because they fell short, they weren’t considered to be playing until the “last out”.
If a team gets WHUPPED on I can understand.
#67….IWWTHM…We just need to always play to win…
Winning takes care of a lot of things.
Even if we don’t win, at least keep it competitive. Too me, losing isn’t bad…it is losing without giving all you’ve got and being competitive. Teams will beat you on pure talent alone…but when you give them a fight, it makes you look that much better.
I see the list. Any of these boys listed has UH on their top two schools to play for or they are like that you man from the Big Island who is only looking at schools on the western US continent.
Maybe the list should, if possible list where they want to go. No use getting all excited about kids who may have no interest in being a Warrior. Not being cynical, but this is a Warrior dominated site and we are probably most interested in those most interested in being a Warrior and then a few spaces down list those who have little or no interest in being Warriors. No disrespect to any, as I agree some just want to go away. I just want to cheer for those who want to strap it on for the “home team”.
#64, Lauren Cheape, Miss Hawaii contestant, is sister to Matt Cheape of UH Volleybows. Lots of beautiful women will be there.
buffoman, your point is well taken. we going get sum and to those who want to play for another, best wishes and have a great career. to those who stay, aloha and welcome and a huge mahalo for being a warrior.
Souljah,
Good they offered early, Ursua is a beast and dual sport like Miah Ostrowski. Could possibly dual sport in college too. Glad the coaches are looking early as he is only a Junior and 2012 class. He’s tearing it up at QB but will be projected as a slot receiver. He can ball it up on the BBall court too as he was once a product of Coach Agenas clinics at Kalakaua…
I think we simply do not have the depth we need to win game after game, week after week for an entire season. When our first team slot gets injured we see a huge difference in what we are capable of… same with the RB or WR… we need depth on our offensive skill positions so that we don’t suffer that kind of drop off.
Oline got to get better, too.
mih . . .
Is it a question of talent or repetition?
26 wake ups to go.
Tsigh.
Nytal!
wafan,
I think until last season, both (either the talent wasn’t ready for the D1 level or it didn’t exist)…but from this season forward, there should be enough talent in each position, so it will be a matter of repetition in each position — With maybe, the exception of RB… to be seen.
Both baseball and softball pitchers got injured, softball is over how far can the baseball team , go with injuries to its pitchers; RPI ratings don’t matter as much as 40 wins for softball or 35 for baseball: Hawaii we are stuck where we are; travel is a killer also, so we should figure out a schedule that benefits us.
Actually,
Ricketts went the entire season, and her entire career without having to miss a game due to “injury”, illness is different as she sat the 3rd game of the Alabama series due to an illness, but came in to relieve Parnaby and so forth.
Parnaby sat a few games on the road early in the non-conference season due to some pain in her pitching arm that goes back to the fall when she returned to school after participating in some tournaments back in Australia during the summer of 2010. She essentially never stopped playing softball from the fall of 2009.
Later the MRI produced a negative result for Parnaby, which was obviously good news.
The softball program has been lucky the past two seasons avoiding detrimental injuries. There are the ususal sore bodies and wear and tear of the season, but nothing serious or close to it.
Traditionally, we’ve had strong programs come to Hawaii for softball and Coolen is no different from other UH coaches that believe in a strong non-conference schedule to help with post season seeding like Murakami, Shoji, and Trapasso.
Condolences to the Steinhoff Ohana.
Only saw Kameron play once and that was this past season when HPU played UH. Very solid bballer indeed.
#53, I beg to differ. Washington is getting better. Sarkisian has recruited well the last couple of years and they have made great strides in getting top talent out of Hawaii such as Hauoli Jamora, etc. They beat USC and California on the road last year. They beat Nebraska badly in the Bowl Game. They came on strong at the end of the season and won every game they had to win to make it to a bowl game. The have a lot of starters returning and they have a lot of depth. Beating them on the road will be very, very difficult. If our offensive line cannot hold their defensive line we will not win this game for sure and that’s a very big question going in. Beating any PAC 12 team is cause for celebration. We have not won a AQ school on the road in a long time. Coach Mack will say that it will be a very tough ball game to win. We have a better chance to beat Colorado at home. Still, there are many questions marks going into the season that it will be difficult to predict how things will go. Definitely, we are NOT playing any cupcakes. We should respect our opponents for who they are, PAC 12 teams with a lot of football talent.
#83 – I agree.
Washington is a big physical PAC 12 team, and not to be taken lightly.
Our past teams have had a tough time against bigger teams.
We have a tough schedule, which include big guys like Wash, Colo, BYU.
Our team has to develop depth, and in a hurry.
Man, that normchow is getting to be a pesky pest.
” … Utah and UH are entered in the battle for receiver Delshawn McClellon of Gahr High School. UH had an evaluation visit at Gahr Monday. Utah offensive coordinator Norm Chow visited Gahr yesterday. This afternoon, Utah made an offer to McClellon. … “
Mahalo to Coach Glanville for giving our alumni a chance to play at the next level. 😎
#83
Last one i believe was at Washington St. Ok, the bottom dweller but a win is a win!
Buffoman:
It’s an accurate list, which is all I will say.
How tall is McClellon?? Hopefully a little taller than the previous alumni from that school
He’s under 6 feet.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/36581745/Star-Advertiser-2010-Football-Preview
According to scout.com, Psalm Wooching just committed to UCLA.
Gahr? Out of the two recruits we got from Gahr one doesn’t even hold a clipboard and the other couldn’t even make it into the school. Let norm have em…..
maybe if the softball team has another disappointing season next time around, the armchair coaches won’t spam us with off-topic posts as much! I can only hope…
longboarder:
Deondre Powell just couldn’t get it going academically. Too bad. He was a nice guy, and a pretty good athlete. He went to a JC, but just didn’t have enough credits to transfer.
There were two other Gahr receivers who ended up going to WAC schools.
I wonder how Norm Chow likes living in Utah. Better than Tennessee?
I think the best thing about Ricketts is she learned to control her self-criticism. That’s what happens with hyper-competitive athletes. As a freshman, she used to get upset at herself too much when she made a mistake.
It happens. Volleyball player Steven Hunt was like that. He learned the one-snap-and-clear mantra, and became a better player.
Gigi:
Chow lived a long time in Utah. He used to be BYU’s offensive coordinator and QB coach.
i think he’s Mormon, too.
We should all learn that mantra. How many times have I dwelled on negative outcomes, wishing I could do it over and get it right.
Ideal situation for Norm, then. I have never been to Utah, but my daughter’s inlaws are Mormon and made the trek to the temple there.
Gigi:
Don’t pay any attention to Bobby Curran. We live in a cool country.
Utah isn’t as rigid as people might think.
We had some people from the Advertiser join a paper in Tennessee. They really like it there. Of course, it helps that they get box seats to Titan games.
One of the interesting things about Salt Lake City is the geography. The streets are designed on a grid, and numbered in such a way that you can never get lost, and i get lost all of the time. I think I’ve been to Utah about 25 times, once on a family vacation. For some reason, they have really good seafood restaurants. Not sure why.
No offense to Utah and Tennessee, but it would really bother me to live in landlocked territory with no ocean around.
Manhattan is designed on a grid also. Hard to get lost in NYC.
Gigi:
I used to work with a pretty unique columnist. Really interesting guy. Traveled the world, and always came back with the memorabilia, which he placed in his office. He also won a lot of awards, which he also kept in his office.
And then he died.
He only had a couple of heirs. They came in, collected a few things. Some other stuff was donated to the Bishop Museum.
And the rest stayed there. After a few months, I think many of the things were either donated or tossed. And we’re talking about stuff that had really great stories, only the storyteller wasn’t around anymore.
It got me thinking about elderly people who die. What do you do with all of the pictures that nobody can identify with?
The point is: memories are important. But as Bulla always says, it’s important to make new memories every day. It’s best not to dwell on the past. And that goes for mistakes, especially. Living in the moment is one of sports’ best lessons.
I really enjoyed the 1st women’s clinic, led by Heather McMackin. She told us about her many relocations as a coach’s wife.
Reminded me of what it must be like being married to a career soldier!
ST, it is so hard to do that. What do you do with BITTER memories? I have quite a few and have a hard time letting go of them.
I think we all have bitter memories.
What can you do? They haven’t invented a time machine yet.
I always hear people talk about: If I knew then what I know now …
Well, sure you can regret what you didn’t do 20 years ago. And you know what? Twenty years from now, you can regret what you didn’t do today. So why not try to live your life without regrets now? You’ll have much happier memories in the future.
“Live your life without regrets now” — Amen to that.
Gigi:
Another thing is never regret money spent.
Leahey had a really nice truck. But he felt so guilty driving it. Wondered if money could be spent elsewhere. But, you know, might as well enjoy it.
Anyway, he ended up selling the car and buying something that looks like a tissue box on wheels. Doesn’t look any happier, either. He shoulda stuck with the truck. But, hey, can’t look back, right?
ST, was that columnist Bob Krauss? Sounds like it was. I attended his workshop once. He was very entertaining and gave us helpful hints on how to write.
Which brings us back to recruiting.
Sometimes you get a steal. Sometimes you miss out.
Can’t worry about the ones who got away.
Best thing to do is coach the heck out of the players who decided they wanted to join your program.
ST, yeah I agree. Never regret money spent. That’s what I keep telling my kids (believe it or not!) when they question why I am spending over $400 to swim with the dolphins in Waikoloa, and over $400 to fly in a helicopter over the volcanoes in Hilo in July.
LOL
Krauss was a great writer because he was a great listener. He was interested in telling other people’s stories.
Gigi:
Money: why not?
You can’t take it with you. Your reverse mortgage assures that you can’t.
Another great writer was Wil Hoover. Excellent feature stories.
#108 ~ Right on, Tsai!
The only things in your life you can affect is what you do right now. You can’t do anything about what is past except to learn the lesson & not repeat it in the future. Enjoy life. You never know when you will get to the end of the road.
Slugger, that’s great philosophy!
ST – #112 – which is why I couldn’t bring myself to vote for the local boys on other teams in that vb poll.
offtheblockblog.wordpress.com
jm:
The poll was a good idea, it’s just that nobody knows about the site.
ST, gotta agree with you! No regrets, only can make the best with what you got and go from there!!! Always trying to live your life to the fullest and take those around you on the best ride ever. I remind my wife of this as she mourns her fathers passing last week.
hkwarrior, are you living in Hong Kong right now? I was there last year. Fun!
hkwarrior:
Sympathies to your family on the loss.
Gigi,
I read your blog every week but am unable to leave a message on it. Your family looks great, my wife and I used to watch your grand daughter in Pearl City.
I agree spend the money now. I guess thats why I don’t have any for tomorrow! lol
thank you Mr Tsai
ST – Round 2 is open and Josh Walker is way behind Murphy Troy. Nejc (vs Del Valle from PSU) and Jonas (vs some guy from Ohio St) are comfortably ahead of their opponents!
GO WARRIORS!!
hkwarrior, sheesh! what a small world! Julia is now in preschool in Newtown, and I watch her 15 month old brother 4 days a week.
I’ll tell Maria about your comments when I see her tomorrow.
Julia was ready for preschool when she was at our house.. I think should could’ve gone straight to kindergarten. She is SO smart!
HI HO as it is said…. the planes can’t leave until I send them their numbers! NYTAL
hkwarrior,
Condolences to your wife and her family.
Basketball game in HK in August if all works out for Coach Gib. I would love to go.
Condolences to all who are grieving
Is the Doctor still in?
“Every man crucifies himself between two thieves: one the regret of yesterday and the other the fear of what tomorrow may bring.”
– Benjamin Disraeli
It took me two years to figure out that McMinnville is laid out with A-B-C (Adams, Baker, Cowls, etc.) streets intersected by 1st-2nd-3rd Sts, etc.
Made navigating a LOT easier!
Seen 1st-2nd-3rd Sts. in many towns.
What do you suppose you usually find on 1st St.?
Washington DC is supposedly designed as a grid. Still easy to get lost. Especially when 14th St. is after 15th St (or something like that)
d1,
In PHX, it’s Streets to the east and Avenues to the west.
1st St. > the bus station?
DC has quadrants and was probably designed by a Bureaucrat. What do you expect?!?!
d1shima:
In my current condition, I don’t worry about yesterday, enjoy today and just hope to wake up in good spirits tomorrow.
the churches
d1 – the worst part are the circles! Numbers, letters, states, and then it gets more complicated.
Miami has quadrants too and too many numbered sts. There is 95th St, 95th Ct, 95th Ave, 95th Pl. You get the idea.
Isn’t there a 1st St in Pearl City and 1st Ave in Kaimuki?
Committed Road Warrior must be fairly good at D.C. navigation by now.
😳
that Disraeli quote shoulda started, “Every day man crucifies himself….”
In many foreign countries, the avenue/road/street might be straight but the name might change every couple of blocks!
tommui…
Imagine if all countries were like Japan where houses were numbered as they were built so the numbers jump around from here to there, this way and that way… Thank goodness they are at least broken down from Cities, to Wards, then to sectors (chome), before the numbers. That way you at least have a 1 in 50 chance of getting the right house.
I still find it amazing how efficient their mail and express delivery services are.
Thanks to the Census Bureau, every house now has a street address. At least now, you can give someone the address of a house on the Big Island, instead of trying to tell them which house!
d1shima,
That Disraeli quote should serve as good reminder to either flush your browser history daily or don’t go to websites that would embarrass you if others found out in the first place, eh?
jm2375…
yep.. now if we can only bring up the literacy levels…..
“Da Hui” says:
Yeah but dey not local, gotta get mo local, all local mo bettah…
Kazz,
Wouldn’t an all local team ultimately work against recruiting and the “university” experience of international exposure and exchange?

Okay… looks like S.P.A.M. time so I’ll say, “Good night!”
Good night, gang!
Made,
I dont make “da hui’s ” rules.
I sure as HELL dont agree with most of them either.
Happy Birthday d1!!

I didn’t say we are playing cupcakes like a Div 1-AA school…but we aren’t playing the “Elite” of the BCS or even mid-level of the BCS imo.
You are confusing which game and which team was “badly beaten”. They played Nebraska twice…The first time they lost and got destroyed 21-56 (beaten badly)…The second was the bowl win where it was 19-7 (Nebraska not very badly beaten imho).
The California win came against an unimpressive, overhyped and unranked (go figure) Cal team 16-13
Their only wins against ranked opponents during the season came against a #18 USC who dropped off the rankings like 2/3 way into the season by 1 point (32-31).
I rather not talk about Colorado for I feel bad for their program.
BCS=auto qualifying conference, not auto-big time program. I think most would agree with this.
I’d take Boise State, Houston, East Carolina, Air Force over any Big East team and like half of the ACC and a Washington State, UCLA, or Cal, Colorado.
Good to read about our new women’s and men’s volleyball commits earlier yesterday. Right on coaches Shoji and Wade.

Did you notice the football offer to John Ursua? He must be good in football but I like his basketball…especially how he breaks down the defender on the dribble and chucks the ball down low for an assist.
SteveM
Wassup?
I would agree that the ultimate measure of success is the W-L record. You can’t fudge those numbers. But when people start talking “quality wins” etc…then you cant simply point to W-L records.
2007 was an awesome season…I won’t argue that. Our W-L record was well..perfect. However any one of us can argue the quality of the wins and strength of opponents without having to go make up some outlandish theories…
How important is a “quality” win to you as a fan? What is a “moral victory”? What is a quality win?…A win against a rival (read: BYU)? Top 25? BCS team? Any win? By more than 14 points?
Don’t think there is a wrong answer…just different types of fans who have different ways of measuring success.
On this day (May 18) in the first year (2007) of The Warrior Beat blog … SteveM began a string of gaffes and dog house dwelling that happened annually on this day (the eve of Peaches’ birthday) until last year. In 2007 we were all getting to know each other better, so I’ll share this silliness with you…with the help from my friends…
No, it didn’t help when we learned that d1shima’s birthday was on the same day (March 19). But the dog house got larger… 😐
well curt…apparently he is most coveted as a slotback type receiver rather than a point guard. so if i am ursua i’d grab the football scholie because as one a bit undersized i’d have a better shot at the nfl rather than the nba.
Anybody watched espnU the other night about all of the scenarios leading up to SMU’s death penalty situation?? A whole lot of dirt!!
Comments from a big time boosters, school staff, outside agents, etc. Seems like during those times and before, especially so in Texas, it wasn’t such a big thing to have recruiting staff show up at potential prospects homes with all kinds of money and offers of all kinds to lure these players to play for perspective schools.
Craig James/Eric Dickerson, were highlighted in those scandals which rocked SMU. Replays of Eric Dickerson shown driving up in his brand new gold Pontiac Firebird auto, etc. Pay-for-play was outrageously rampant….those involved on both-ends weren’t shy to talk about it either. As we can see….nothing has changed.
Good morning, DPK…back at U.
Have a great day to all my Tsaiko family….catch you all laters, chow time, out.
Great points raised as always. Excellent posts and excellent content as always. I’m Tweeting about this now!
I mentioned the previous because this morning I’m reading that the big10 comish., smith is talking about increa$ing athlete$ benefit$, etc. if the school(s) can afford it.(ala-those who have and those that don’t).
And how do you like NCAA president’s answer to the DOJ about fb playoff; to go ask the BCS conferences, why??? Is it a case of, “no back bone?” or is his panties too tight?
Well?????…his panties might be too tight because he’s got them filled with pay-o-la?
The espnU program mentioned how, Eric Dickerson was the top prospect out of high school in the country, and he turned down bigger schools offers to enroll at SMU instead, which lead to the audience watching this program to wonder how large SMU’s offers were????, and of course, players like Craig James and others will never say, but they won’t deny that these kinds of under-the-table deals were part of the way things got done.
James and Dickerson, both enrolled and played together which came to be known as the famous, “Pony Express.”

I perform a lot of number crunching for this team because I think that the past will usually give us an idea of what we will expect this season. As you know it may be impossible to decipher what player will surprise everyone. This is the main reason why I recommend using statistics to make it easy to judge.
