Green to Titletown
With the next-to-last pick of the third round, the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers picked former UH running back Alex Green.
Green’s mother, Phyllis Smith, said they were ready to call it a night with a few picks remaining in the round. But then Green’s name “popped up on the (TV) screen. … We yelled so much I think we woke up the entire neighborhood.”
Green was picking up his daughter, Harlym, at her mother’s house when he received a call from the Packers.
“Are you having a good day?” Green said he was asked.
Green reponded: “Yes.”
“It’s about to get better,” he was told.
Soon after, the Packers announced their selection on the ESPN2 telecast.
Green was selected with the 96th pick. The Cincinnati Bengals took cornerback Brandon Ghee with the 96th pick in the 2010 draft. Ghee signed a four-year contract, with a signing bonus of $648,000.

Of course, facilities and academic services are important.
But as high school counselors always say: If you want to go to college, you’ll find a way to go to college. It might take 40 years or on-line classes (or, in the case of one of my kids, a History 150 class on channel 55). This is America. Everybody has a chance to go to college. But not many get to attend on a football scholarship.
And every college football player — no matter what size, shape or medical history — harbors, at some point, the NFL dream. And why not? Early in his UH career, James Fenderson was a walk-on living in his car. He ended up playing in the NFL. Lawrence Wilson was the fifth nose tackle on a depth chart that went only three deep. He ended up as the last cut in the Baltimore Ravens’ training camp.
With stars in their eyes, recruits are aware of which college programs can lead to NFL rosters. The Warriors’ staff includes guys who have played in the NFL (Rich Miano, Ashley Lelie) and coached there (Greg McMackin, Dick Tomey, Mouse Davis). Offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich and running backs coach Brian Smith were in NFL training camps. The Warriors try to help. They run practices the way the pros do. They host scouts for an on-campus junior day. They stage an annual pro day. The biggest sellers, though, are the players who are drafted. And that, of course, is where Greg Salas and Alex Green can shape the future of UH recruiting. We’ll find out today and tomorrow.
* * * * *
There isn’t much of a difference between Salas’ performances against BCS and non-BCS opponents. As a starting slotback, Salas averaged 8.6 catches per game against non-BCS teams. His BCS average was 6.75. But against BCS teams, he averaged 16.44 yards per reception; against non-BCS, his average was 15.32.
First!
Happy Aloha Friday!!
Good luck to the Warrior NFL hopefuls today.
Hope UH can get Jonas Umlauft to the awards banquet at Penn State. He certainly deserves it.
Good morning everyone!
Wow…almost second!
Waiting to hear some Warrior names called today!
Good morning!
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Wellwaddyaknow! Top 10!
Jm:
It’s hard to get to Penn State.
It’s not really close to any major airport.
Friday Night Lights
In the real world would Coach Taylor make a good college head coach ?
Lets get those picks today, Warriors!
Last Call –
That’s some good advice in #291. What advice for memory remediation?
I’m tired. This is what happens when I stay up to watch a wedding.
The NBC telecast was interesting. They said they were going to turn off the studio mics. Meredith Vieira then decided to do speed commentary before the mics were turned off.
Prayers for D1 ohana.
Bulla –
Healing prayers for the Beast!
Good morning, gang!
Good luck to our former Warriors!
Prayers for the Beast and d1shima’s nephew.
Good morning gang! I thought it was too quiet in yesterday’s blog!
The Donald has a potty mouth.
Sorry but the English bore me to death.
Good Morning Mr. Tsai –
What’s the word on the “Row” about today’s rounds of the draft? Any changes for UH players?
The Donald likes to point out problems but doesn’t offer any solutions. There are a lot of people in the world like that.
Prayers for the D1 ohana.
Healing prayers for the Beast and many more Tsaikos who need them. Steven Rodrigues, we haven’t forgotten you…you’re still in our prayers too.
Wishing The Beast a full and speedy recovery!!!!
Last Call:
No kiss.
No Electric Slide.
No drunk uncle giving the toast.
What kind of wedding is that?
I like Italian weddings.
ST,
you are the only male I know personally who watched The Wedding. Hubby and I were fast asleep in bed when it happened.
#17 ST the problem is that the other 99% only offer more taxes…………..Ai’yah.
A lot of guys watched the wedding.
Kekaula kept grumbling about the wedding … until 1 in the morning.
It was a spectacle, and those are fun to watch.
The analysis was pretty good, too. From a back-view shot, an analyst was able to identify the dress designer by the use of the lace.
Phil Simms couldn’t do that.
I wasn’t going to watch the wedding, but I was up after watching the Merrie Monarch Miss Aloha Hula competition. Interested in seeing the architecture of Westminster Abbey and the surroundings.
Love the beauty of this morning…if we didn’t have all these incredible advances in instant media distribution, we might believe that all was well in the world…tsigh.
Had a nice run this morning and feeling mellow. Gonna take a shower and head out to the driving range to take out any hidden aggression on the golf balls. Betty bought me a new fairway hybrid and I’m anxious to try it out! bbl
Pomai:
True that. But if The Donald would build affordable houses …
I love all of the commentary and insights during the draft coverage. Still, it makes me wonder: Where was all of this for a mid-October game? Maybe Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. should do color commentary during the regular-season telecasts.
If I were a dog I would be 285 years old today.

Aloha Kakahiaka!
Blessings and Prayers for all who ail – and for our Warrior alumni looking for jobs doing what they love to do.
Heading for HNL and the Baha’i National Convention later today – till Sunday night. In the meantime, HiHo!
Hmm.. the link above has to be copied and pasted in its entirety otherwise it just goes to facebook.. sorry.
mih- AWESOME!!!!
d1 ohana…my prayers shout out.
beast…just another small hurdle to get you there brother.
Weird wedding. People at wedding looked bored. They are there but they can’t see anything. Who designed that building? The best part was the horses. They had really shiny hooves. 32 mil just for security?????
Redzone… 32 mil there and 55 mil on the first pick for the NFL draft… lotsa mulla. Well spent?
Happy birthday Last Call or bark, bark, ruff, ruff, bark, grrrrrr.
Healing prayers for all.
RedZone:
Is that what they call a dogleg? It was an odd-shaped cathedral. But very nice. Do regular people get to worship there?
aloha friday everyone its the start of anoddah weekend adventure, whatever you be going make it a good one.
kden my friend miles who plays with bg gave me some scoops on the pic. he told me noticed the background peeps no one was excited cause it was an infield pop up. but no matta bg you looking good. bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa jk
kope up so time to get my eye opener……
Kate is a hottie and so is her sista Pippa.
Dang, I am totally dragging from watching THE wedding too. It was a spectacle, for sure. Such a good-looking couple. I was wondering what it’d be like 30 years ago for Charles and Diana if there was social media/blogs, etc.
Congratulations to Jonas!!! Good luck to our boys in Fresno…kick some bulldog butt!!!!
Where is the Beast attending school? I thought he was transferring to UH from Weber State? Somehow, I lost track of him…Why didn’t he transfer to UH?
NOTHING about UH Football is run “pro-style!” That is a fact, but our staff wouldn’t know b/c none of them have been at HIGH QUALITY programs before UH. UH as a whole operates on the buddy system, only hire local, or alumni, not THE BEST!
so last night the boss stays up to watch “the wedding”.
i don’t get it, why watch a wedding of someone you don’t know?
at one o’clock i say, oh now what?
is this the honeymoon you are watching?
the boss quips with that glare, “no, the birth of their first child!”
miffed, i got to have a comebacker.
so this morning she is watching the replay…here’s my chance i thought.
oh, is it a double wedding?
i didn’t know he had a brother?
…i’m in the doghouse.
woof.
so the wedding probably cost millions.
right?
how many people could have been fed?

Good morning gang…hope all is well…

Have to run off….busy busy on one of the busiest days of my year…..
Gramps…call me tomorrow….
Have a good one all….
Hi, i think that i saw you visited my weblog thus i came to “return the favor”.I am trying to find things to improve my web site!I suppose its ok to use some of your ideas!!
The best part about having the wedding yesterday?
It’s over. Now we can all move on and catch up with the rest of the news… Draft starts up again in half an hour.
great stat on mr primetime– greg salas. doesnt matter who he went up against. i would venture to say his drop-off in catches for bcs teams was primarily due to his qb being sacked or hurried by a better rush. his yac against bcs teams is a better barometer–however, that was not included in the stats published, but maybe inferred by his higher average per catch.
Happy Aloha Friday Everyone! Good Luck to the former warriors waiting for that call

I was glad I was able to watch Michael Scott’s departure from “The Office”.
Yup. Too many.
We need another plague.
Sitting at an airport…I hope that Salas and Green are drafted before I land tonight. It would be great for 1 or both of them to be drafted today…recruits look at the NFL draft and this year there weren’t that many non-AQ players taken in the 1st round.
Looks like Karl Benson is trying to bail on the WAC and get the Fiesta Bowl position. If he becomes the head of the Fiesta Bowl, I’m guessing that the BCS would soon kick out the Fiesta Bowl and replace it with the Cotton Bowl…that would be a nice parallel for all the teams Benson lost in the WAC.
http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270202/28909079
Nice spin…Benson should get credit for having so many schools leave the WAC.
I was very pleased to find this web-site.I wanted to thanks for your time for this wonderful read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you blog post.
the donald is worth $8 b and has one of the more successful shows on tv and that demonstrates he knows how to run a business. the ability to solve problems are inferred. obama, has zero experience in business and has demonstrated how to ruin an economy by monetizing our debt, printing more money while increasing spending. as the morons in hawaii are learning, you dont cut your deficit by spending more and growing govt…..taxing the wealthy increases regressive taxes, which everyone, including those on fix incomes–eventually pay.
It shows how well you understand this subject. Bookmarked this page, thanks god someone that actually knows what they are talking about – thank you;2
Aloha All.
Hoping for a complete recovery for The Beast.
Mahalo again for all the well-wishes for our nephew. Still in the fight, hoping for the best.
Kekoa,
We had that thought to get over and light a candle this morning; just gotta find time to find da church.
Kaepernick? Really Harbaugh? Really? 😕
So if Trump’s “do” and Kiper’s “hair” had kids, what would they look like?
#66 They would have dreadlocks below the waist….That’s where their brains would be.
Trump knows how to run a business? Here is a partial list of his bankruptcies:
1991: Unable to pay a $3.5 bil loan, he declared business bankruptcy. His investors lost millions but his personal assets were protected. Until less than a year later…
1992: Trump Plaza Hotel folded and Trump declared bankruptcy. Trump had to give up many of his assets including the Trump Shuttle.
2004: Trump filed for personal bankruptcy. He gave up the CEO title to his business and reduced his ownership of his Hotel & Casino business to 27%.
2009: Trump filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, since he had just $50 mil in assets and owed $500 mil in debt.
Trump has lived a lavish lifestyle and has always done well for himself, but his investors have repeatedly lost millions because his businesses failed. He has shown that he CANNOT balance a budget, but he gets away with it by declaring bankruptcy and walking away from his debt…but that is *not* what a country can do to solve its problems.
Trump has one of the more successful shows on TV?
List of the top 20 shows…his show is not on the list of course:
http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-weekly-ratings,0,7508066.htmlstory
Trump not only doesn’t have one of the highest rated shows on TV, his show normally comes in THIRD during his timeslot…and consider that for half of his TV show, there are only 3 TV networks operating (Fox ends an hour early).
Boarding the flight now…
#57 Kazz – Good one now I just have to wipe all the soda off my keyboard…………
Like he claims UH never beat him and he beat himself, Kaepernick can now also say that San Fran never drafted him, but he drafted himself???
Memba all the boos the commish got each time he walked to the mic yesterday? Looks like he’s usin’ team reps as “human shields” today. 😆
Colin to the Niners????????????? I wonder who the Raiders are going to pick?
“The sun is shining.”
“No its not, look outside you idiot”
(Silence)
Garret, mahalo for the info. Just the straight facts about what a b.s. artist Trump is. All he does is quack like a duck.
Thanks for “keepin’ it real”, Garret! 😉
Political party loyalty…
Like back when Kerry tried to run against Dubyah.
Democrata had their faith in the talking tree from Lord of the Rings as if he was a suitable candidate.
Republican backers should learn from that.
Vince McMahon, Jr., who’s company survived a $400,000,000.00 loss due to his XFL experiment still flourishes today.
Based on that alone, McMahon would be a better candidate for the Presidency for the Republican Party. 😆
Oh crap, the clouds are getting darker over Manoa…
I hope they have the tarp on.
thunder and lightning over Halawa. The a/c is on to cut the humidity.
since when is corporate bankruptcy illegal?
it is part of captalism.
newspapers go bankrupt and so did hawaiian air? and?
…..misleading what u say about the donald, he has a net worth exceeding $8b.
he will be announcing in may along with his personal worth–hopefully, the american public won’t be waiting two years.
didnt obama just bail out banks, the auto industry and wallstreet?
your cite of tv shows is broad-based and does not include particular categories, which advertisers look at.
as an example fox news is #1 among cable news shows but has less viewership than many cable shows and network news.
the point being, the donald is a serious rep presidential primary candidate and according to the latest polls (rasmussen) is a frontrunner. i wouldnt be so dismissive and for many americans, he says what many feel…..we shall see, pelosi dismissed the tea party as an astro-turf movement–where is she now? lol!

#82 I think you reversed the order of Bailouts. Bush gave the Banks/Insurance/Financial Industry the monies in 2009, better known as TARP. Yes Obama bailed out the Domestic Auto Industry to stem the flow of unemployment and extend unemploymrnt insurance to stabilize the economy. Oh and by the way; Most of the investments made in the Auto companies have been repaid.
Think of it this way Bush=Trump. Bush messed it up and Obama has tried to clean it up; with not a peep and a lot of resistance from Bushes allies.
OK we now need one Indian dance for no rain in Manoa>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Raiders draft a center in the 2nd round…
Mel Kiper’s best at safety rated #6….. Mana Silva.
#87 – not good for Samson Satele
Alex Green now at #4 on Mel’s best for running backs.
#85 u r correct about the subprime bailouts (tarp) but challenged on your interpretation of obama’s administration whom has spent more money than all presidents combined.
true, obama inherited a deficit which both parties had a hand in esculating. he made it worse. also, the 2008 obama promised transparency. promised to bring down unemployment and while a sitting president dismissed the recommendations of his own deficit comission he appointed. his stimulus bill was an abject failure and testimony that our private sector, not govt, needs to get healthy for our economy to improve.
further, the election in 2012 will place significantly more democrat senators at risk for reelection than republicans. if 2010 was any poll-signal, by the time hawaii voters cast their votes in 2012, both houses as well as the resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW will be decided and obama declared a one-term wonder.
Garret did NOT say BKs were “illegal”, he just pointed out that while you were busy saying Trump is a good candidate for the Presidency based on his business dealings, he pointed out facts that said he is not bulletproof.
Don’t put words into people’s posts. Now, if you are just making a general statement that BKs are not illegal that is fine, but kind of out of place since, as I mentioned, NO ONE said or inferred it was illegal for Trump to file BK.
There is NOTHING misleading about factual information as he laid out. Garret never said anything about Trump’s net worth NOT being $8,000,000,000,000.00. His post was in response to your:
How you gonna run a business when you cannot pay your debts?
You can dance around the opposing questions as much as you want and rant on and on about what Obama did or didn’t do, which are INDEED factual, but at least present some CONCRETE factual information on why you believe:
Trump presents a better solution to this country’s financial woes. If you want to essentially say “Anyone but Obama” that’s fine. I’m not going to lie, things are NOT getting better and don’t appear to be getting better, but just because Trump wears the same political party colors as yours doesn’t mean he is a flat out “better” solution.
$787 billion stimulus = fail
No President will see a second term at the rate things are going right now.
There, you all just saw the most unbiased political statement of the day.
Pomai,
Don’t use the word “fail” like that.
Stop stealing my generation’s lingo. 😆
warriorsun:
April 29th, 2011 at 12:13 pm
the donald is worth $8 b and demonstrates he knows how to run a business.
You can have 8 billion and still be worthless. 🙂
Question:
I got $600 something dollars from Uncle Sam in 2008. Others received the same or more.
I don’t think that worked either.
Kazz, Pomai,
The thunda in the area has stopped. I can see some blue skies in the west and over the Ko’olaus behind Manoa, but still some grey clouds over UH. Hope it moves off.
OHHH sorry Kazz – not. LOL
#96 – I would like to worthless like that, they say money can’t buy you happiness, but I beg to differ with them it would buy me a lot of happiness plus alot of others I could make happy. LOL
No democrat or republican will EVER bring transparency to office.
Only an idiot would believe that.
And no, I’m not a fan of the greens either.
garret is mr ad hominen….a cyber-space bean-counter that defines the part, not the whole.
attacks the messenger, not the message. irrelevant and out of touch with america’s pulse.
and kazz, as far as u r concerned, “the bank that says yes and has been gloating daily since 2008 about quarterly forecasts for recovery in hawaiian economics”….get real. the proof is in sales tax collections by the state of hawaii.
Never got my stimulus money so do I get it with interest?
What the hell? Last time I used “not” like that I think I was 10.
Try again.
OK nuff about politics lets get back to da draft.
anybody who combs his hair the way donald does cannot be trusted. is he hiding something? Like a bald spot on his head?
As the television reality show asks, one answers the question:
He does think he can dance. 😆
Kazz when you where 10 I think I was retired already or is that retarded.
Even though I don’t like BSu, glad to see Titus Young go that high, say what we all say about the donkey’s he was a good wideout.
You cannot seem to get around an argument without getting sidetracked from the issue at hand.
To that, I don’t what to say. For an individual that posts in a manner that portrays an educated individual, you retort to things like this. You always have. 😆 😆 😆 😆
I don’t pretend to be what I am not and post in a manner reflecting just that.
Maybe you should resort to “your mama” jokes when responding to people that are not in agreement with you.
To that I end anymore interactions with you on this blog with regards to the topic of:
“Trump will make a good president”.
I thought you said “enough about politics”? 😆 😆 😆
I don’t know if this will work but you all should check this out. Just click on my name
110 Kazz – Come on it’s not all politics well maybe 90%
To Warriorsun,
Trump is not a real businessman– just because he has a reality TV show. His reputation as a businessman is poor. He is a good promoter, though– good for some sound bites.
Opra beats the pants off of him. So that makes her a much, much better businessperson than Trump. But I would not want either one to be President (on your standard– I guess it would be Oprah).
Re #101
You obviously have no idea what an ad hominem argument is, otherwise you would have realized the irony/idiocy of your post.
Garret clearly would have made an excellent attorney had he been so inclined. He thinks logically and incisively. He communicates his position in an organized and coherent manner. In fact you should take notes.
Partly cloudy over Puowaena and nary a drop hath fallen.
Donks wide receiver before Salas? Never.
Garret would make a excellent anything involving brains.
#111 What a catch!
I’m a coupon clipping dividend user. I have enough problem with my7 brothers and sisters re Politics
Lets stick to Fun, Football and Fuud
#113 – WHOA… a Black FEMALE president. She better produce her birth certificate the very first day, any delay would be questioned.
good afternoon Tsaikos! (looong time no *see*). sniff sniff – i miss u guys.
thnx BG, ur da best! btw, luv yesterday’s photo!
prayers for d1’s nephew and Da Beast…and continued healing prayers for Betty, DPK, MIH, J(J)’s mom, 702 Warrior Fan’s friend, Michigan Warrior’s dad and Slugger’s friend, Bryan.
best wishes to GPSGreen, Pilares and Salas!
GO RAINBOWS!!
GO WAHINE!!
whoooooooooosh
thanks for the post 🙂
thanks for the post 🙂
Kazz, did you click on Pomai’s name. Tremendous catch. Must be 14 feet in the air. Female yet.
Mike Huckabee
111 great catch
Cobb went before Salas
oops…i forgot Aunty Gigi.
Round tree.
I should have said : Is it right that Donks WR goes before Salas? Never.”
another great catch.
http://www.break.com/index/ball-girl-makes-incredible-catch.html
What time are the game(s) today Kazz?
DPK one game today at 6, tomorrow has a Dbl header starts at 4 pm
NFL teams picking BCS stiffs over Salas, Green, and Mana! I don’t get it.
133 –
Word!
NE sent reps. to visit Green at his mothers home, but so far have taken two rb’s, and so far, Green is not in that mix???? What-the???
Now this is cool.
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/120986809.html
lots of interest but they may stocking up on free agents to call on once the draft is over.
#133…exactly what I was thinking.
Ryan Mallet = Attitude problem
MWC 1 – WAC 3.
then again….I don’t think I’ve seen picks from confrence USA either?
so Oakland picks Wisnewski as a potential center candidate, his uncle is a former Raider and the team’s OL coach, where does Satele fit in this situation.
I’d rather take Salas over Pettis.
There’s a run on receivers now.
Donk’s Pettis gets picked! We need a frickin’ weird colored field to get some notoriety.
ESPN2 is averaging a commercial break every 2 minutes now.
143 – ST – I think Pettis has better hands but Salas has better YAC tougher to bring down.
Raiders pick speed once again, a CB clocked at 4.28 at the combine. Demarcas Van Dyke out of Miami, the bad boys club.
Anybody else feeling Salas to the Colts?
#143 –
Sickenin’ aint it?
Jets coming up soon. Chris Carter? Jeremy Beal?
OK! teams are picking dward WR’s. Jernigan?
That’s dwarf.
Chiefs are up. Could see Salas here.
Salas dropping, but wait till he gets on the field
Pray for the right team
Pilares is now on Mel’s top receiver list at #6.
I hope so.
Don’t know who Jah Reid is, but those Central Florida backs look good.
Pilares way better than the guy from Troy.
they runnin out of WRs!
gotta be soon…
Bailey is a good pick for the Chiefs.
At least this is only the third round. If it were the seventh, then the agents get that queasy feeling.
Salas.
Wisnewski plays guard also
Green on Mel’s #2 at RB. 2 UConn running backs at 3 & 4.
Drake Nevis? Kaniela Tuipulotu is bigger.
#163 he played guard but they are projecting him as a center.
#161 ST. I getting unqueasy. I think.
Wow had an add on espn for bigislandhomesbyzip.com, but their site lic. has expired. what a waste.
Green to Raiders???
Golf note: Dean Wilson went off today, shot 8 under par to move from right around the cut line to tie for 4th place.
I noticed some players from North Carolina, who didn’t play last year due to suspension, got drafted.
Way to go Dean Wilson. Now somebody draft the capable Warriors.
Raiders coming up again in the 28 slot of the third round. More help on the OL and DL would be good.
Curtis Marsh? Really? I thought Jeramy Bryant had a better year.
Michelle Wie missed the cut in the Arvet Classic with another +4 round.
gheeee where all this ua coming from? sun was just shinning now bam heavy stuff.
afternoon everybody, this put a damper on my attending sball tonight
well guess its merry monarch on tv
Commentators talked about Ryan Mallet’s attitude which is why it got him dropped from a first round pick. I thought Nick Fairly of Auburn’s attitude showed on national TV. He was noted for his immaturity before the draft, but when he was selected as the 13th player, he didn’t seem happy at all.
Every time they step to the podium, they go to commercial. C’mon. Is this an OC 16 director?
Joe Barksdale, LSU, OT in round 3 for Oakland.
come on bball warriors, go hard dig deep, battle battle battle
J-E-T-S on the clock.
Can’t type right now. Have to hold up my Jets helmet.
Shucks. Missed that one. I’ve missed 93 in a row since Cam Newton.
After passing on Warren Sapp years ago, the Jets don’t care about any stinkin’ drug tests.
Is BSU’s Kellen Moore even considered for the draft? I thought he was very smart and very accurate.
Alex Green to the Green Bay Packers!!!!
Alex Green to the Green Bay Packers!!!!
All right Alex….
Alex Green Packers!!!
AG selected by Green Bay.
Green before Salas???
Salas next?
Wow, good for Alex! 🙂
didn’t see that one coming…
now will someone draft salas….
green picked
Looks like we’ll have to wait for Salas tomorrow.
Nice show on Alex.
Break in the draft???
Auryte Green!
Salas next!
Loved seeing the clips on Alex on ESPN2! Yay!!!
Congrats Alex!
AG in the third! Whoddathunkit?! Awesome!

Well-wishes and prayers, to MW&family.

It’s like giving 110 percent.
Imagine Alex Green getting a Super Bowl ring next year or the year after…
Mich Warrior,

bball warriors hitting but not timely. chance to add anoddah run but doggies changing pitcha third one so far.
ST, 110%…that’s like another whole discussion…but anyhoo, I like that the draftees will all get a chance to pursue their dreams. The past couple of days is like an prolonged Christmas for the NFL hopefuls. Exciting times….hoping for more Warriors to be selected.
Would like to see Salas and Pilares drafted soon.
But going the free agent route could be better – you get to look at the teams and find out what your best chances are to make the team and that may be better than being chosen at the bottom of the draft.

Mahalo once again, everyone! I need to go relax. Gave up drinking in Korea, back in ’91… so, just gonna chill with da kids, den go sleep.
See you all tomorrow!
MW,
Mahalo for the stats. Relax with the kids and reminisce about the good times. I’m sure your Dad is doing da same. 🙂
Rest easy MW. All our prayers are with you my brother. I’m glad you were able to make it home for a good visit with your ohana.
I really think whoever drafts Salas tomorrow will be getting a good deal. As I always believed, its not where you get drafted, but what team you selects you. Money always come when you produce and surprise those so-called pundit and prognosticators. See you guys on Saturday!
Prayers and congratulations all around!
Nytal.
Baseball wins at Fresno St!! Way to rebound from the Valpo series
Blessing to MW and family. We still praying for your dad, brother MW.
I would have never thought I would ever like Colin Kaepernick. Now that he’s with the 49ers
(my favorite team), somehow I like the guy. How things change in a day. Hoo-ah!!!
Derek:
Kaepernick is really a good guy. Talked to him several times, and he’s really nice.
Shoko:
Salas will be good because he can catch the ball. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know that’s a receiver’s job. But you’d be surprised at how few natural receivers there are.
Congratulations MR GREEN. We are so proud of you!!! Now I have a reason to follow the Packers!!!
From the Green Bay Press-Gazette:
The Green Bay Packers suddenly have a crowded backfield.
Throw Alex Green of the University of Hawaii into the mix. General manager Ted Thompson used his third-round pick, No. 96 overall, on the 6-foot-0¼, 225-pound halfback.
As the roster stands today, it means the position group includes veteran starter Ryan Grant, up-and-comer James Starks, last year’s in-season pickup Dimitri Nance and short-yardage runner John Kuhn. Plus, there’s potential free-agent Brandon Jackson, whose value as the team’s third-down back shouldn’t be underestimated.
Taking Green almost surely means one or more players from that group won’t return, but perhaps there’s room for an extra halfback in 2011 if the Packers are willing to short another position, possibly fullback, which has been overloaded the past two seasons.
“In this league, you can’t have enough running backs,” said Jerry Fontenot, who took over as the Packers’ running backs coach in February. “It pretty much seems like running back by committee is blanketing the league right now. We’re no different than any other team. I’m happy as heck to have Alex Green as part of our team now. He’s a kid that has some versatility and can catch the ball out of the backfield. He’s an explosive back. For his size, there weren’t many guys coming out in the draft that can run like he can.”
In his lone year as Hawaii’s starter, the former junior college player rushed for 1,199 yards, averaged 8.2 yards per carry and had 18 touchdowns last season. In a pass-heavy spread offense, he also caught 27 passes for 363 yards (a 13.4-yard average) as a senior.
“I was used in a lot of different aspects in the game, especially blocking in the Hawaii system, the run-and-shoot,” Green said. “I caught a lot of swing routes out of the backfield (and ran) a lot of draws and inside zones, so I was used quite a bit in every aspect.”
The native of Portland, Ore., has experience in a more traditional offense, too. He ran from an I-formation at Butte Community College, the same Northern California junior college that produced Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Green, who said he went the JUCO route because of academic issues, said he never met Rodgers but did play with his younger brother, Jordan, at Butte.
At the combine, Green ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds, did the vertical jump in 34 inches and the broad jump in 9-6. Thompson also attended Green’s Pro Day when the Hawaii prospects worked out in Southern California.
“He’s a big back, he runs, he catches, he’s got very good feet, very good instincts,” Thompson said. “He plays in a spread offense. We saw him at the East-West game. He got really good exposure there. He was clearly the class of the group in the East-West practices.”
Green was the third straight offensive player taken in this draft by Thompson after he took Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod in Thursday’s first round and Kentucky receiver/kick returner Randall Cobb in Friday’s second round.
All three come into crowded positions, where immediate need was only moderate, but none appears more crowded now than running back.
Perhaps the Green pick came with an eye on the future. Grant is expected to return from a serious ankle and leg injury that occurred in the regular-season opener last September and ended his season after only eight carries, but he is entering the final year of his contract and will be 29 years old by season’s end.
Starks, a sixth-round pick a year ago, is a promising prospect after his late-season contributions, including a 123-yard game in the playoff opener at Philadelphia, but he hasn’t done enough to show he’s not an injury risk after missing most of his rookie year while recovering from an offseason hamstring injury and all of his senior year of college because of a shoulder injury.
Jackson’s return isn’t out of the question. Depending on the rules for free agency, he’ll either be restricted or unrestricted. Either way, the Packers value his ability to pickup blitzes and protect Rodgers so much so that they might considering bringing him back.
Or perhaps Green could fill that role. First, he’ll need to prove he can take on blitzing linebackers and defensive backs plus shore up his ball security. He fumbled eight times in 271 touches during his two years at Hawaii.
“I had a couple of problems early on in my career at Hawaii, high pad-level issues,” Green said. “So I worked on that quite a bit and got it fixed by the end of the season.”

What are *high level-pad issues*?
Congrats to Green.
ST, interesting story!
Congratulations, Alex!
Nice article Mr. Tsai, thanks. As usual our stellar blog lord is working hard to get the back story.
So happy for Alex. By all accounts, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Next up, Salas, Pilares and Letuli!
GO WARRIORS!!!
It never ceases to amaze me to witness one of Warriors being asked to play in the NFL and represent the islands. Wicked!
Good Luck, Alex. Make your family, Portland and all of the islands, Proud!
*high level-pad issues* Proper blocking and tackling techniques
Mahalo A-joe
mahalo for all the prayers and good thoughts for ‘the beast’ in his recovery from his ACL surgery. both surgeon and team dr. predict 100% 8/1/11 and we will continue to focus on a full recovery. MW, our ohana prayers to your ohana…..congrats to the Green ohana, a dream realized is priceless.
GO WARRIORS
Mahalo, Ke Akua!
Healing to all.
Praises and thanksgiving.
Hi ho!
what happened at the Wahine softball game? I’m home watching Merrie Monarch…
Wahine-Namasu tied at 1.
Going into extra innings.
Wahine down 2-1 entering bottom of 8th. Unfortunately, error with two outs in top of 7th allowed NMSU to tie score and send it to extra innings.
Iwata doubles in tying run with no outs in 8th.
so #2 son and i were positioning to bet who would get it drafted first from the warriors. we both argued and both agreed in the end that alex green would go first.
i think salas will now get plucked in the late fourth or fifth round.
i see pilares going in the sixth round.
and in a real surprise mana silva getting tagged in the seventh round maybe by the black n silva/
talking about the black and silva…i see samson having his best year in 2011, if it ever gets off. nothing like getting a high draft pick to push him and bring out that fire that he showed in his four years in manoa.
Anyone have an update on da Wahine?
2-2 after nine innings.
congrats to the basebows on a very impressive win over the fresnecks.
Thanks Guy in the office. Long gone is the team that mercy-ruled others left and right. How can a team drop off that much?
curt you gonna try for 300 tonight?
It’s like a 220 average bowler now averaging 105. Someting’s not wright.
Curt: NMSU is 14-1 in WAC, and took a TEAM batting average of .344 into the game. Ricketts had a no-no through five so actually Wahine playing tough.
al,
#273 You kidding? I no likee get boned again and again. I feel like Charlie Brown tinkin’ this is it; I’m weally goin to kick da ball dis tyme. Wright al. U da man. Every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess, that al iz da man.
Congratulations Alex Green!
MichiganWarrior,
Aloha to your Dad and the Ohana.
You’re right Guy. We’re playing ’em tough. Our pitching is top flight. Our bats? C’mon gals. Pull it together.
Best wishes to the d1, Bulla/Beast, and MW ohanas.
curt…ok. i’ll relent and let you take #300. (hee, hee.)
Props to Alex Green! I would think that his blocking and his pass catching is what separated him from the pack. Green Bay really needs a back that can help protect their QB.
Aguirre singles with bases loaded and one out in 10th, Wahine win, 3-2.
Yay Wahine! Way to battle!
al,
#282 I believe you like I believe in the tooth fairy. Sure Lucy…I mean al.
Speaking of fairies, where’s our Supa Fairy tonight?
Thanks Guy. Good win young ladies.
Way to go Wahine and BaseBows!!!
Congrats to Alex Green!!
Healing thoughts to MW and his family.
Congrats to the Wahine!
Last night I mentioned the Franki Valli and Four Seasons mimic group on a cruise ship. In 2005 there was a pair of lounge entertainers on a 10-day Norwegian Wind cruise that I really liked. They sang mostly 50’s-80’s songs. Checking last night, they have web site now. Jose & Patti…
http://www.joseandpatti.net/
Jose (Jo-say) played guitar and used a laptop to play MIDI accompaniment. Patti could sing…maybe an American Idol if not for age. After the preview variety show in the theatre on the first night at sea, they settled into the main lounge every other night.
They invited us to sing along all night. We did.
They invited us to dance. We did.
They asked for requests. We gave and got.
They talked and joked with us before shows, during, and after.
Here’s a video of Jose & Patti doing 60’s. You can tell they are recorded live in ship lounges.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7UuuU5sNHI
Here’s a video of Jose doing Neil Diamond. Noet they are all live videos and the first scene is on the main stage in a ship’s theatre…

Na Wahine is BACK!
SteveM,
I assume you give a thumbs up to Non-Stop Travel. Is that right?
SteveM,
I luv the oldies too. So many great artists in the 50-70s era.
get ready curt.
7 btw, did you welcome b & b?
blakes & biggs.
they’re on their official trips.
ok curt your big moment is coming.
curt…wea you stay?
okay now.
300
Ha-ha al. Gotcha!
i told you i’d let you have it.
i was waiting and refreshed several times to make sure you got it.
i’m a man of my word.
Down goes al. Down goes al. Down goes al.
Al, you are pretty wonderful!
Stop it gmahoney. Al’s head is monstromous already!
The only way I could get it is if al opened the door and waited for me. What a guy. Thanks Lucy; I tot u was goin to pull da football away at da last minute.
gmahoney…you’re such a honey girl.
mwaaah.
Congratulations to Na Wahine on the win tonight!
curt, i would never.
although, i must admit i was tempted to.
curt, just for you. i’ll share this carole king mix with you. make sure you got your headphones ready to plug in.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UM249-WfP4&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=AVGxdCwVVULXfMnBO_E0Kw29RSAgFKZJyl
slugger no forget the basebows who also pulled out an extra inning winner.
Even when al lets me win, he wins. He has the adoration and admiration of all the ladies on the blog. al and Charlie Sheen know all about winning. al, Charlie, and me–we’re known as 2 and half men. 🙁
so i am thinking that if salas, pilares, gets the call tomorrow it would up the ante for recruiting.
having both pilares and salas drafted coupled with hot rod bradley getting a free agent look-see (lock out lift providing) would stamp us as wide receiver u.
Thanks al for the Carole King mix. Even tho I won, I feel “So Far Away.”
Green gets picked, Curt gets the big 300… life is guud. 😉
#314
You’re right al. If Bradley gets in, that probably means we’ll have 3 receivers in the pros for this year. After the 2007 season, we also got 3 receivers in: Bess, RGM, and what’s his name. Don’t know why Jason Rivers didn’t give it a shot. Seems like he had the physical tools more so than the other 3 receivers.
🙂 Funny DPK. Of course Green gets more dineros for his pick.
Was that other receiver’s name Hawthorne? I think he was on the Bills squad for awhile.
Yes. I have booked a Panama Canal cruise tour with them and my first two Hawaii cruises. Good attention to detail.
Disclaimer: A high school classmate of Al, hawnstln, and myself runs the place. He knows us well enough to throw us out of his office whenever he wants, but he does listen. Another classmate who I did not know coincidentally became my mom’s and cousins agent through independent routes. Small world stuff. Good travel agent.
…but the best agents I ever used and knew were Paul and Didi Ah Yo. So sad on their sudden passing years ago.
rivers i thought should have gone to the broncos who would have soon discovered that he was the second coming of shannon sharpe.
Its still a guud night for you, Curt. And for Green! 🙂
Lucy din’t pull the ball away this time. 😆
Is anybody going to the HPFL Championship tomorrow night? Or is everybody at Wahine senior night.
green should get around 500k bonus.
SteveM,
#291 That duo is pretty good. I especially like her voice. By the way, I know you sing; but, I didn’t know you danced. You’ll have to show me some of your moves SteveM.
Rivers was da man!
hpfl championship???
is that like the wedding?
dancing?
here’s a guess…gigi can foxtrot but never heard of the twist.
We lost a great group of receivers. But holy moly, we’re reloading with some studs in the wings. Be interesting to see Bright, Sampson, Doe, Pollard, Bell, Gant, Miah, and a bunch of others. Spreading the playing time will be very difficult. You would think that the newcomers will prob have to redshirt.
gigi,
Are your ears burning? Someone’s talking about you. I’m sure you know the twist. You and al can do a demo at the next function.
Back again after three-plus months of doing My Thing – burned out and bummed out – but there’ll be another day. This was my worst year at the Capitol by far. Even bills without any $$$$ attached flopped. Maybe it’s time to move on to my 16th career.
Congrats to the Soft & BaseBows. Went up on campus to see the former, but the carppy weather and the junk seats under cover made it easy to decide to listen to the game on the radio in the car and at home.
Will bring raingear for tomorrow’s DH – that’s something we won’t miss – unless there’s another tsunami on its way.
Question: Does anyone here have any solid information about what Colt Brennan plans to do with the rest of his life? Coach? Run a car dealership? Broadcast sports? Somehow playing football in the equivalent of a minor league team without any indication that something in The Bigs might open up strikes me as simply sad.
Again, circle Sunday, July 3, on your Must Do Calendar. More information to come in about a month.
#320 Thanks SteveM.
RE: #325
Curt — I can dance as good as Al can sing. 🙄 But I only dance on cruise ships, where only strangers see me, we’re all partying, and we all go our separate ways in a week. Say, why am I trying to get a blog cruise going? 😕 OK, I won’t dance then.
Jose and Patti were the only entertainers where Peaches got up and danced. The first and only time. The place was rockin’ and all the audience of 50 got up. Audience also had a lot of grey and white hair too…and more and more came every night as word spread. 🙂
#331 For Colt to get a chance at the next level, he’ll have to perform on the field. If he does well, there’ll be interest. I think he has two major problems: 1. He’s probably rusty and needs some time to get his mojo back. 2. His competition on the team is the league’s best passer. It’ll definitely be tough. We’re all hoping for the best.
Congratz Curt! I was standing by with a blocking strategy at the ready.
I wonder if the Queen Mum is a Packers fan?
Healing thoughts to all…
Congrats to Green…still in green.
Will never catch me on a cruise, dancing yes, but cruise…no.
Good job basebows and sb Wahine.
Congrats to the newlyweds. Still can’t get over the collection of Rolls Royces, Bentleys, and Range Rovers of the Royals. Anyone else notice the British SAS? They’re good.
curt…you are omitting the wide receiver with the most promise.
Im gonna go home and pass out.
Wow…
Okay al. Who in your opinion is the receiver with the most promise? Are you talking about Paclebar? Actually, you’re probably referring to one of the newbies.
The bats? Son of bit… nevermind, im done for the night.
Kekoa,
#335 Thanks. That al is pretty tricky. Sometimes he lurks quietly in da bushes until bam he strikes like a rattlesnake.
promise amadi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYpGa86095o
from the hs who brought salas
“• Uh, oh, rest of the NFC. The Packers offense might have gotten even better, taking offensive players in the first three round for the first time in 15 years. Green Bay selected Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod in the first round, took underrated Kentucky receiver Randall Cobb at the end of the second, and capped the night by tabbing Hawaii running back Alex Green, a third-down threat, with the penultimate pick of Round 3.”

Homes ~ The SAS are true Tsaiko’s. We worked with them during the late 70’s. I have a great story for you at the 1st T-gate.
Did you see the Royal couple drive the Aston Martin with da top down!…Sweeeet.
Sweet day and night for UH fans!!
Treasuring the memories.
Nity nite!
al,
Okay I’ll look out for da Promise. But, I would think with all the talent already here, he’ll be redshirting his first year. Hopefully, he won’t get too homesick and sticks around for a marvelous career.
little birdie says that they promised promise a chance to win the position in the summer and fall. so they must keep their promise to promise.
promise this is what i heard about the promise to promise.
fo’ real promise.
One thing about the Brits is they make some expensive autos.
Kekoa – It’s always a treat to hear your memories.
al – What’s written on paper and viewed on youtube still needs to be translated and executed on the Warriors playing field. One thing about sports is that no can believe the hype.
Forgot to mention…when I grow up I want to be like BG and A-house.
actually he’ll compete at slotback.
homey…start by enlisting in the army.
al – I was a military brat so that is close enough.
and you still one brat.
Always will be one. My mom makes sure I don’t forget. 😆

speaking of brats…can’t find any good brats in hawaii. last good brat was had in iowa. of course there is a large german community there.
That’s why so many Brits were killed or injured at Bunker Hill. Of course warfare back then was just marching into led balls hoping the shooter is a really bad shot.
Johnsonville brats grilled at the t-gate is good enough for me.
oh no goboroots here…. what a tard….
congrats to Alex Green!
congrats to the Wahine!
congrats to the BaseBows!
Good morning!
Congratulations to Alex Green! He is a great example of a player that had to go the JC route, earn his way onto a 4-year college, then make an impact in just 2 years to get noticed by the NFL. This is a life-changing event for his family and I’m so happy to see his hard work pay off.
Continuing prayers for everyone in need.
Congratulations to the SoftBows, BaseBows, Green and Curt!
Whoo-hoo!!!
It is true that most years it can be better to be an undrafted free agent and pick the right team instead of going to a team that might not be as good a fit. However, if the lockout is going to continue, then undrafted free agents won’t get to be signed by teams…so, only draft picks will know what teams they will be with and be able to start learning the system. So, this year I hope that the Warriors on the bubble will be drafted.
I know that Salas will be taken pretty early today, but hopefully Pilares and some other Warriors also get drafted.

Sorry for the long off-topic post. I was curious what the TV shows earned so I used Google and posted the first stuff I found.
Very interesting, Garret. Half of those shows I’ve never heard of before. Thanks for sharing.
Think I need to watch more TV. Never thought I would say that.
Gosh!
I only watch 2 of the 63 shows Garret listed — 3.17%.
And even then, 1 of them is on for only 5 months without reruns.
Not sure I am really missing anything I am not already watching.

Right up until recently it was not unheard of for interest only mortgages to be organized without a repayment vehicle, with the borrower gambling that the property market will rise completely for the loan to be paid back by trading lower at retirement (or perhaps when rent around the property and inflation combine to go beyond the interest rate).
