Saturday's practice
Because yesterday’s practice was canceled, today’s practice became the second of spring training, and the players were not in pads. The Warriors will be in pads Monday (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.).
• Safety Kenny Estes was working on kickoffs.
• Because there are no scout teams, quarterback Bryant Moniz was at cornerback during a passing drill.
• Left wideout Darius Bright has played well, and appears to be No. 1 at that position.
• Walk-on linebacker Adam Hom today was dismissed from the team.
• Defensive tackle Sam Ohai, who was invited to spring training after auditioning at a walk-on tryout, still is awaiting clearance to practice. He said compliance officer Amanda Paterson is reviewing his transcripts.

As a first-year UH assistant football coach in 1999, with late-night video sessions and early-morning practices, Dennis McKnight decided it would be best to stay in a place close to UH. That place was his UH office, where he set up bedding. At the time, he became friends with Charlie Wade, who was the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team’s top assistant coach. Wade also worked early and late.
They have since followed separate paths. McKnight had a second stint at UH culminating with the 12-0 regular season in 2007 before following June Jones to SMU. He now is an employee of a CFL team. Wade, of course, is now head coach of the Warrior volleyball team.
With McKnight in town for a week, it was a logical invitation for him to deliver the pep talk before last night’s match. One thing McKnight does very well is deliver motivational speeches.
The Warriors won in four sets.
Is McKnight staying at a hotel, or camping out in a UH office?
I don’t understand why McKnight chose to work in a cold climate like Canada. Isn’t he engaged to a woman in Hawaii?

Speaking of travel. A Ticketing agent in Paris accidently tore my father-in-law’s passport page off his passport, but let him through anyway. Now he’s stuck in Singapore and being held at the airport. They won’t let him through and want to send him back to Paris. He’s supposed to take a connecting flight from Singapore to Jakarta in two days. His wife got through and is frantic as they have never been apart in their life much less travel alone.

Softball setting goes as fast as 60mph and Ricketts and Parnaby toss stuff like that in their sleep, but quite HUMBLING to try to hit that… VERY humbling.
The slow-pitch setting sometimes needs adjustment as it’s quite high sometimes.
For baseball, the fastest it goes is 70mph.
I forgot to mention it has five cages. Three with machines and two for live pitching and of course, bring your own pitcher. 😉
It’s a few more bucks per pitch with a live pitcher though.
Still good cheap prices.
lol. the last time I played baseball or softball was when I was around 13 years old. Last time! I didn’t bat; I bunted. That’s the best I could do. What a weakling.

TSINGTAO BEER. I told hubby he should not have bought it, as the water in China is full of chemicals from the factories. Brewing kills bacteria, but does not get rid of the chemicals.
so, he told me I can drink the Corona; he will drink the Tsingtao.

Especially when you imagine the ball is someone’s face.

i guess softball is supposedly easier to hit than baseball, due to the larger size of the ball. But, to me it is just as difficult, as the ball is heavier.

After I told hubby I saw a TV commercial re 4D TV without glasses, he just now googled 4D TV. And it’s true! There is a 4th dimension: it is 3D TV without glasses, so Toshiba is calling it 4D. lol.
However, Philips says the final version of the 4D TV will appear on the market in 3-5 years.

The water apparently comes from springs way up in the mountains – or so I’m told.

…and smart. His 12 night cruise aboard the 5.5 star ship (all alcohol beverages included) in a balcony cabin was around $2K (?). All food, drink, entertainment, and overnight stays between ports like Seoul, Jeju Island, etc. and down to Hong Kong in the price. Additional cost is air and when you get off the ship to be a tourist… if you get off. 🙂

wow, 12 night cruise? That’s a long trip. Nowadays, when I travel, it’s like being a kamikaze pilot — quick and short. One week max. 2 days for air and 5 nights in the hotel. $5,000 total for two adults.

Well, I might be talking to myself then.
But, this is what it says on the label of a bottle of TSINGTAO BEER:

So, okay, I drank my 1st beer from China, the Tsingtao.
My verdict? It is strong and heavy. Typical German beer. Or is it? What’s your opinion?
Quite frankly, I’ll stick with my fave beer of all time: CORONA, beer from Mexico, also known as Mexican Piss.

mom loved Damien. Guess why she had to retire at age 62. She is legally blind in 1 eye and sight is impaired in the other eye. Could not read the grades on the report cards — and she was the registrar!
Sorry to hear she has dementia. One shapr lady — I think she kept the brothers and lay teachers in line.
Two more shut outs for the Wahine softball team with Parnaby and Ricketts doing the honors. Scores: 5-0 and 9-0. Glad to see the bats come alive, particularly for Jenna and Melissa. Majam still without a hit in a long time and now batting seventh. The Wahine’s pitching is unreal, surely one of the best twosome in the country.

Speaking of Mexican beer. I’ve been to several Mexican cities on the west coast because of the cruises I’ve taken. The water is warm. I don’t see any people in the water and asked a local why was that. The answer she gave me was that the water was not too clean. Since then, I looked every where in Mexico wherever my tours took me, but haven’t seen any sewage plant. I’m not saying that they don’t have any, I just didn’t see any. Could it be the reason why we saw a few dead fish washed up on shore? Was good size fish too. On one of my tours, we took a catamaran along the shore for about 1 1/2 hours and saw beautiful homes and resorts along the beach. I wondered where their waste goes as there were hills and mountains above them and water travels down hill.
last week I downloaded Pokémon Dash for my NINTENDO DS and completely love this kind of game. anyone have suggestions comparable game?

We now have a car!! A shiny red 2009 Ford Focus purchased from McKenna Ford around 2 pm this afternoon.
As soon as we wrapped up the paperwork, we then drove into town to Kaiser’s Honolulu Urgent Care Clinic before heading up to the University. I tripped going up the stairs at The Les last night and really jammed up my thumb as I tried to regain my balance so I now have my left hand is in a partial cast.
We turned on the baseball game when we left Kaiser and were delighted to hear that the Rainbows were ahead by 6-2; however, by the time we got into our seats at the softball stadium, Portland had gone ahead 7-6. Although UH tied it up in the bottom of the eighth, Portland scored another three runs in the top of the 9th. A really junk loss.
Meanwhile, we watched the Wahine win their second game of the day as did close to a dozen Tsai-kos sitting six rows below and to the right of us on the third base side. Perhaps one of these days someone might ask us to sit with the rest of the Tsai-kos
There were probably a total of 600 in the stadium by the end of the softball game. It wasn’t too long ago that maybe there might be 75 of us fans in attendance at this time of year. Sometimes, the visiting teams had more fans that the Wahine did.
Well, that was then and this is now. Even though most of the Wahine softball fans are newbies, so to speak, we are all pulling the wagon in the same direction.
Then we headed on over to The Stan to see the Warriors volleybal team win over UOP – joined by Protector.
He and I will be going to watch baseball and the last softball game tomorrow afternoon while DrDoc goes into work, It’s that time of the year and he’s expected to put in at least 75 hours a week through mid-April. Too bad he doesn’t get much of the money that the clients have to pay for his services.
Anyone here going to the Tuesday night basketball game? And if the Rainbow Warrior basketball team wins on Tuesday, does anyone want baseball tickets for next Friday night? Anyone here interested in baseball tickets for Monday, March 21? If so, send me an e-mail to swood at hoku dot com.

According to Coach Wade, UH is now in 5th place. Upcoming road trip is very important if they want to get into the top 4 so they can host. Warriors still have to play the top 2 MPSF teams – BYU on the road and USC at home.

Regarding Wahine softball…Coach Cooley seemed to have decided on the 8th and 9th positions—Casey Jensen and Dara Pagaduan. I agree with the decision. The best predictor of success is one’s past Division I experience and history. Jensen hit .237 for Utah. Not that good but a lot better than the others on the bench this season. She is fast and bunts over 50 percent of the time. Lately, she’s getting better at this “small ball” tactic. Pagaduan played a lot in her freshman year before being beat out last year by Tracy Yoshikawa. She hit in the .270’s and had 3 homers. If Pagaduan comes close to matching her freshman year, she will be a welcome addition to the permanent line up.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
Last night was disappointing and down to a certain clic of players not doing it right but sums up our squad and further highlights just how much investment we need and which dead wood to throw out.
