UH is 27th
The Warriors received the 27th-most votes in the AP and USA Today polls, right behind Nevada.
At first glance, that does not make sense, because UH beat Nevada, and the Warriors won yesterday while the Wolf Pack had a bye. But picks aren’t made using bracket formulas, and it’s difficult being a voter.
One of my newspaper coworkers, Ferd Lewis, is an AP voter, and his vote was due at about 7 a.m. Eastern time today. He spent a couple of hours online trying to read reports from games across the country to craft his poll. I think he ended up filing at the airport this morning.
My feeling is that some voters weren’t as diligent in finding out that Nevada lost to UH — game ended at about 3 a.m. Eastern time — and now it’s difficult to boot the Pack if it didn’t play this weekend. The other feeling is the Colorado loss really hurt. But the Warriors are in a good position, and if it beats Idaho and there are a couple of upsets, they should be in next Sunday’s poll.
* * * * *
• Don’t worry about linebacker Corey Paredes’ sore ankle. He’s played through worse this season, including a strained neck that required neckbrace-like padding.
• Gotta love slotback Greg Salas’ new handshake celebration. Everything old is new again.
• No, the Warriors did not attempt an onside kick with a 24-point lead. It was a squib kick that did not squib because of the wet surface.
• Quarterback Bryant Moniz said he was a little concerned when he saw “snow on the mountain when it wasn’t there yesterday.”
• Equipment coordinator Al Ginoza came through again. He outfitted the receivers with hand-warmer pouches. The players also used a heating gel that was activated when they rubbed their hands.
The Rock! Go, Warriors!
I absolutely love that handshake! The whole team has to do that!
Rosehill looked to be running like that, until he hurt himself on our bad turf!
Suit up the Rock.
Is Malosi Te’o supposed to be a Warrior next year?
Good morning Tsaikos…only a couple hours ’til the AP poll comes out.
Yesterday’s cold wet weather in Utah was a good “warm up” for Boise. Mr. Ginoza and the players have an idea what works/doesn’t work against the cold.
Keep the votes coming for Moniz! Last couple of hours of voting! Finish strong!
This is only Round One! Gotta keep the momentum going!

Good morning Hawaii!
Great job by the warriors! Keep it rolling.
You know I got to admit I like the BCS. It really makes each week interesting.
Screw the playoff idea. That would be the death of college football.
Was thinking Corey needs a nickname like Cujo, since he’s plays like a rabid dog on the field.

I really didn’t expect to make it to the top 25 until after the boise game… but I thought it was really funny (in a sad way) that Nevada still got 8 more votes than we did. REALLY?!
Plenty to think about for the Idaho game. Hope Bradley has a big game.
Well, Nevada is 6-1 and all the special teams plays made it look close.
Thanks to Michigan Warrior .

NICE!!! still happy wit the results UH keeps winning it’ll come…still scratching my head at nevada tho
Great Day In The Morning!
Loved the handshakes! Can’t have the officials call us on that one!!
The crowd at Murphy’s was fairly large – I think there were maybe a total of siix Tsai-kos all sitting at separate tables.
What were the other get-togethers like? The Murphy’s food was great – buffet plus unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. Total for the two of us including tip – just over $25.
I asked the manager about the Boise game – they’ll be open at 7:30 am and will be serving a breakfast buffet.
Will there multiple again or one large party like there has been in the past. Perhaps we can actually arrange something at The Stan again. Will be willing to help do the arranging.
The polls will take care of themselves if the guys keep playing the way they are playing.
eh, Tsaikos and Tsaiketts, No worry about the polls. If come, come. Just have to take care of business. Being in the polls make us look like a target and gives the other teams motivation. If we keep playing like we are then the ranking will come eventually. Even with the POW. No worry! Main ting we win. The rest of the nation is probably thinking “45-7 on the road? So what. That was a WAC team.” Before it was “ha,ha Hawaii cannot win on the road.” So know worry about what we cannot control. Only keep winning and let the other teams knock each other down. Then they forced to look at us and wonder where we came from. We all know that the SEC will knock each other off, but check out the SEC’s non conference schedule. They played plenty teams like Prairie View, etc. The individual stats will get people to wonder about us and then check us out. But the BCS teams will always say “its a system team.” I wonder how Nebraska got 4 touchdown passes. System??? It seems like more and more teams are using the “run and shoot” as their “system”, but UH perfects its “system” better than most other schools.
If you smehhhhhhh-lalala, what The Rock. Is. Cookin!
Potatoes, mostly, for the next two weeks.

Moniz finished 9th. 300 back of #8 from East Carolina.
It is what it is with the polls.
It’s all about that BIG “W” at Utah.
HUGE I’m telling ya. It will come when the time is right
That Handshaking after a score is money. A shiney coin.
There thinking ahead of the game with outsmarting the rules of excessive celebration. Watch, some teams will follow.
This team is full of leaders, not followers.
I’m campaigning to all Warrior fans that will be attending the Boise game.
Support local business in Boise by purchasing a noise maker for the game.
# 1 – Cowbell with drumstick
# 2 – Duckcall
# 3- Both # 1 an # 2
Make yourself sound like 10 fans and irritate the Broncs. It’s all legal at Bronco stadium
Together, the banging cowbell and duckcall produce the best decibals for your dollar
#68 CE, And eat beans and eggs before the game so we can stink up the place.
Good thinking PapaJoe.
Throw some Tabasco into to mix for extra Ooomph.
Warriors now have their own Tabasco sauce on both Defense and Offense

I love the handshake but isn’t excessive celebration called when it involves more than one player?
HTTR!
NFL time.
You guys got my argument all wrong.
I’m not arguing that we are supposed to be ranked.
What I’m pointing out is…
How can Michigan AND Reno both have BYE weeks and yet GAIN SO MANY extra VOTES while off… to the point that Michigan is now ranked?
Dolphins. They get Bess, but they really don’t get Bess.
Henne was introduced as being particularly good at third down passing.
Best thing about the win is that it took our average conference margin back to three touchdowns…
Boise has only played the two weakest teams but they have yet to be scored on and their margin of victory is over 50 points…
LaTech should give us a better idea of what Boise is made of. Only two of Boise’s wins are against teams with winning records.
Not to get ahead of ourselves here as Idaho will not be a cake walk. They did beat us last year, they have a winning record, and they are fighting for a bowl game. They have to win three more with most of the conference left on their schedule.
AP and USA has UH at #27.
AP 19, USA 40
Michigan Warrior…wow must be my five email accounts that ran Moniz number up. Took me like an hour to vote since the other day when I came to the blog.l Also the ROCK…my boy was just telling me he worked out with him there in the islands…(Okay he is visiting his Tutu) and was working out with Joe Onasai and the BIG MEN and he was lifting next to the ROCK. He said the ROCK was so nice and helped him with his bench pressing since he is benching 525 now.
Did I read Paredes was a WALK ON from HILO? He better get scholarship now after producing what looks like he is going to be one of the BEST Defensive Line men in the entire country. Does he have his scholarship yet?
I LOVED the handshakes in the end zone. So cute!!! Whose idea was it? Mack’s or Salas’?
#76 Michigan Warrior. I totally get what you are saying!!!!
It is Hawaii the NCAA treats Hawaii like the step child they wish they did not have to deal with.
Why would anyone take Colorado to the new PAC 12…are you kidding me?
I hate the new structure of the new PAC 12.
Did anyone watch NAVY beat the hell out of ND? Now that was sweet!!!

PolyMom… in fact, Colorado lost a few scholarships due to the latest APR scores, while Hawaii scored in the tops of the country and did not lose a single scholarship due to bad grades!

Paredes played at Castle, Kailua Oahu. He was a walk on, but he’s been on schollie for awhile now, coach gave him last year I think. he plays outside line backer.
ooo an did i menshun, dat bugga can give cracks!
MW,
mahalo for the Rosehill info., goin check him out.
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Not surprised at the slow movement up the polls, even though we clearly deserve better. Thats how the polls do Hawaii.
But that isn’t the way this team is playing! Our Warriors just need to keep on kickin’ butt and shaking hands like the gentlemen they are! Polls and awards will take care of themselves.
That fabulous one handed grab by Salas for a TD had those “homer” announcers slobberin’ on and on about him and his NFL prospects. And the genlemen’s shakes at the end: priceless! It shows that the Warriors have a witty sense of humor, a trait of a smart team.
Aren’t the NFL scouts sorta looking at Green too? I like A-joe’s idea about everyone calling his name when he gets a touch.
It would be kinda cool to see everyone in the stands doing the gentlemen’s handshake after each score as well!
an did y’alll watch coach afta da game yestaday? da bugga waz almost … like… cryin…
😆 well…. almost speechless…. maybe Salas can give him lessons in public speaking 😆
da sof side my eye. i rememba how he tole Notre Dame like it is.. 😆

The Rock? Why? Is he taking a break from making crappy kiddie movies? 😆

howzit howzit Kazz on roids. 😀
Okay. Everybody knows I’m slow but what does HTTR mean?
Defense was on fi-yah!!! I think they held Utah State to like ONE third-down conversion!
Hail to the R_____!
Thass what I’m talkin’ about, Michigan! 😉
kden
gonna pump
upda oatmeal…. head out to da hi fiber locale. 😆have a great day peoples!
Initially, the Redskins.
Probably because they are in DC, and that’s the name of the president’s ceremonial song, “Hail to the Chief”.
R_____? I still don’t get it. 🙁
Okay! Thanks for clearin that one up!
Gotta be honest…
I was heart-attack squeezing during the first half, especially after those two turnovers in the endzone. I felt real nervous, hoping for the best in the second half.
Then, da boyz came out and just took ova! Way to calm my nerves, boyz!
But, from here on out, let’s just run away ini the first half and no play dis kine close game! Just’ bus’ ’em up… from start to finish!!!
DPK #96: HTTR is shorthand for “Hail to the Redskins.”
Just doing some research on Idaho stats……looks like they depend on their passing mostly, and spread it around about a half-dzn guys, so no one really stands out much as, “the-go-to-guy.” There’s this sorta, utility guy who has scored seven(7)td’s of off passes; his name is Justin Veltung, so he might be someone to watch besides the qb. Don’t see much of a running game, but I wouldn’t fall asleep on it.
Basically, I would say, put a lot of pressure again on the qb, and a few recievers who might sneek in some short passes, and make sure no running game is sprung on the defense.
Looks like Michigan Warrior beat me to the punch.
I guess you could fill in the blank with anything that begins with “R”. After Liz said hail to the Redskins, someone else said hail to the Raiders… until Colt was released.
DPK <= private school…. 😉
Needs to give kudos to Enos.
He was 100% with the xtra points and FG. in bad weather
Gets the Elam award.
He is a vital factor
Good morning, gangeez!
Nice touch with the handshake in the end zone.
GO WARRIORS!!!
Idaho lost a starting lb to a broken leg this past week, which might bode well for UH to mount another good showing in the running game; heads up and don’t let the Idaho “D” leg-whip anybody.
#110 – Did that happen during practice vs. their own #10? 😈
😳 #112
Yah, Endlerle, although a prototypical NFL QB, gets easily flustered whent the pocket collapses. He’s not comfortable in the pocket when there is pressure. Nebraska knows.
HTTR — DPK asked the question I was gonna ask. Mahalo, DPK. Now we all know what it means! LOL
The most important? Hawaii is playing like a top 25 team now. Polls are subjective, but what is real is a team traveling further than any other team and putting a beat down in Nasti weather on both sides of the all.
That’s a top 25 moment in my perspective.
CRW –
Thass okay, some of us slow people need to see the right answer a few times before we get it! 😆
Brew –
Guilty as charged! 🙂
That poll that was posted above was the PREseason poll. Wait til tomorrow for the real deal. Hawaii in the top 25.

Aaaaaaalllllright, Davone!!! Show ’em how!
What a great morning for Warrior Nation…
Go ahead and take an x-ray, or an MRI – but you really can’t measure the size of his heart! #15 🙂 😀 😆
DPK #118:
Don’t worry. It wasn’t until well after I moved to D.C. did I figure out what that meant myself.
On post game show, one of the callers said Hawaii will be in top 25 polls and Bobby Curran didn’t think so. He was right. He knows the Football media is biased against Hawaii and the Div 1 coaches look down on Hawaii. We had trouble climbing the polls in the undefeated 2007 season. Boise was looked at as a non BCS joke by the pollsters in the early 2000-2007, but now Boise is no longer looked as a novelty joke. They just kept winning and winning. And that’s what we gotta do. Don’t worry about the polls. Just keep winning. We’ll never make a
BCS bowl with 2 losses anyway and what is better than the Sheraton Bowl here in Hawaii? I just hope June Jones can improver on his 4-4 record to be bowl eligible. Mustangs and Warriors! What a great Christmas present! And critics against the run and shoot thinking all passing novelty gimmick. Well, both Hawaii and SMU have receivers in top statistics in receiving yards n catches and catching TD and each have one running back in top statistics in rushing yards, rushing TD, etc. People made fun of the shotgun formation when it first came out, people down played the west coast offense initially, the triple option or the Houston veer was made fun of when it first came out. It took time for people to make fun of Boise State, and it’ll take time for them to stop making fun of the run and shoot.
#82 – gigi – der ain’t no cute in football………..
Pomai,
Cute cheerleaders! Cute Salas! Cute handshake! LOL

Paredes is awesome – he reminds me of that other guy…#53? I am getting old – forgetting names here. 🙂 And A-joe is right…Al is DA MAN! I do not envy him when the team goes on the road – that’s A LOT of stuff to pack, unpack and pack again.
Jus my <2-cents…
but John Hardy Tuliau has made a significant impact on Defense since being named starter in game four…
Dustin Blount has taken our kick off returns to another level since starting four games ago…
Coach Aranda’s decision to lesson substitutions on the D-line has resulted in less confusion and better play with less “think”…
Richard Torres has been playing lights out at strong safety and is going to be tough to replace when Spencer Smith comes back (a nice problem to have)…
Alex Green has emerged as a weapon that opposing teams (and Coach Rolo) have to now seriously think about when the Warriors are on the attack…
Yesterday may have been a breakout game for Rodney Bradley – just in time for the Idaho Vandals who gave us a “whipping” a last year…
pp had a compadre of yours watching da game with us yesterday. you can find out whom on monday
We’re a better team than we were in September – and I gotta give the Coaches my RESPECT.

Remember back in the 60’s when a whole group of Air Force Academy football players transferred to UH. They were accused for allegedly cheating on exams and booted out. I don’t know if they were exonerated or not. Larry “granite’ Cole, Jack Spithill, Mike Rengal, Jim Schultz. God, what a great receiver Jim Schultz was. Circus catch after circus catch, Greg Salas reminded me of Jim. Unbelievable one handed grabs, great sideline catches barely avoiding out of bounds, like Ashley Lelie. Greg was every bit as unbelievable as Jim Schultz!!!! I shoulld say ‘is’ every bit as unbelievable!!! Jim, wherever you are, God bless you for letting us see your greatness!!! And Greg Salas, God bless you for treating us and being in the presence of your greatness!!! Their most likely never be a Jim Schultz or a Greg Salas ever again!!!! That’s something that can’t be learned, that’s God given!!!!!!
Hmmmm… an Idaho defensive player suffered a broken leg?
Hope it wasnt intentional. Like someone swinging out their leg looking to trip a WR.
Thats a shame isnt it?
opps forgot to wish everyone a good sunday morning adding an enjoyable day of rest before returning to work.
news for those traveling to the boise game. lots of past 808 fball player making the return their ala mater. heard something like 50+ from Oahu alone while other from Hi living in mainland making the trek to cheer on their school vs UH.
Great Morning All!
Won’t hide my disappointment in the AP poll. 👿
WTH, trailing Reno? Sad…
The only thing cute is when defensive player is on the ground, swings his leg out towards and oncoming wide receiver to trip him and claims it wasnt on purpose.
Thats cute.
There is HELL TO PAY!!!!
I wanna see Bradley catch a deep pass and lower his shoulder onto a Vandal.
The result? Someone in an ugly white w/gold trim jersey snoring on the field.

Speaking of no respect in the rankings. A long, long time ago, there was only a Top Ten ranking in the AP and UPI. Ther wasn’t a Sagarin BCS or any other polls or even a top 25. I think they went to a top 20 before the top 25. Penn State, with me er………Joe Pa(papajoe, get it?) as their coach, would finish season after season with an undefeated season or just 1 lost. Although they eventually cracked the top 10, they never got the respect they deserved. The big schools at the time were saying “who did they play?, eastern schools don’t have good football, etc.”,. They were bypassed on the big paying bowls come New Years day. They just kept on winning and even played and knocked off some of the big schools. Now, they are part of the BCS, but JoePa (not me) still remembers those days and backs up the non BCS schools. The “old” days are a little foggy in my memoration but just to let the younger people know how it was “back in the day”. Hawaii needs to just keep on winning and the polls will take care of itself.

Good morning everyone!
Totally agree with you, Hank #136. Torres has been super solid. He has my utmost respect for what he has done at safety. In the right place at the right time and makes plays while giving height and weight to all the opponents. [[applause]]
Not sure that Aranda has lessened D-line substitutions tho’. Saw a lot of it in the USU game. Guys were going in and out all the time. Masch got reps and showed well, making the depth that much better. I was surprised he wasn’t flagged for taunting after his sack of Borel tho’. Got a little excited. 😀
Kekoa #130, only reason the teacher wen tell me go to da front of da class was so dey can reach me for give me one crack. I was too fass. No can crack me. Dey miss and wen go crack the wahine sitting nex to me. Da wahine wen get scolding too for dem missing me.
THE ROCK no WAY my childhood Idol alright… I hope that means are boys are gonna LAY THE SMACKDOWN ON IDAHO!!! I hope Coach Mac gets The Rock to meet the Boys maybe that’ll pump um up even more.
GO WARRIORS.
Is The Rock gonna introduce the team when taking the field?
Would that rock the hale, or what!
Come out of the tunnel with the Hawaiian and American Flag a’waving from the blazing speed of warriors, planting those Flags at midfield and standing proud!
Sorry KK. Just took a break from my homework and need to get back to it. No religious meetings for me today. Thanks for the invite.
Yesterday’s post, I asked home many sacks we had. Somebody said 1 sack and USU had 1 too. I thought that was wrong because I know we caught them in the backfield plenty times, but the SA confirmed the 1 sack. We had 10 tackles for loss by 8 different people though.
Jus thinkin…
i don’t know if we’re good enough on special teams to be in the top 25…against Nevada, if we don’t give up the 84 yard kick off return in the second half, maybe we win 27-14…a more worthy score…
heck, we almost lost when our Warriors weren’t coached on the onside kick…
missing a short field goal in that game also hurt…
don’t get me wrong, i think we’re playing well…but I’m still not sold on our special teams coaching…
it’ll be huge in Boise…where it could make us or break us.
Re #163 – maybe their statisticians are junk. 🙂 And didn’t want to credit the Warriors with more sacks than they had. Sure looked like more in the replay, but what do I know?
I just noticed how easy it is to include you guys and myself as “WE” when talking about the Warriors when they are playing great and winning. Anyone else notice that. I didn’t realize it before.
Hmmm. Bess is open on downs 1 and 2 and they run for nuttin. I wonder who they will throw to on 3.
Ok. This is one of those, don’t watch the team you like days for me. As soon as I look at the Skins, Gano doinks the goal post.
I also was grumbling the the AD punt that was kind of shanked, that he got hit pretty hard after punting the ball but no call. I thought it was a 15 yard, automatic first down, type of call. Last night, I caught it again, but I think he fumbled the ball or it was a bad snap. What is the rule on this? Is he fair game if he fumbles the ball. He still got wracked pretty hard though and the player did not touch the ball as he kicked it.
So yesterday, it was a thing of beauty. Even the INTs in the endzone. It was a developmental game, strengthening our wideouts and deep plays.
More strengths we (we, hahah) will need as the season develops!

My son is very impressed with play of Aaon Brown…couldn’t stop talking about him.

Good morning Tsaiko!!
Great Sunday to you all.
I gotta say it again. Great weekend – wins by Pac-5, Warriors, Wahine and the Redskins! and Yankees lost. Now if Dallas loses tomorrow, it would be just perfect. 😀
Watching yesterday’s game for the 4th time.
September?
from the website:
the idaho lb that broke his leg is a maui boy, jojo dickson. know his mom and dad, both great people. he is out for the season, but hope he will be able to travel with the team to hawaii as he is a senior and def captain. best wishes and speedy recover jojo.
Thanks for the info whitey. Always good to remember all the players are somboddy’s family.
Sorry for Jojo. I hope you make it here anyway.
the team depth is starting to show and this is very big improvement over past years. On both sides, players are stepping up to do their job.
The new celebration handshake was great. I hope they continue. In fact the fans should give a neighbor a hand shake after every score this week. Hey let’s even give on the the idaHO fans in the stands.
Great day for the Warriors yesterday. Who cares about the rankings? I prefer the expectations that this team is not worthy and then UH proves them wrong.
The Dolphins do not use Bess as much as they should. Terrible play calling on the last drive. Why the ________ would you open with a draw play with under a minute left? Stupid. And BS call . . . Ikaika had that fumble recovery. I’m a Steeler fan, but was actually pulling for the fins today cuz of Bess. The Steelers would have been fine if they lost today, while the fins needed this win.
THe niners suck and need to give Colt a call.
at this year’s upcomng state fb playoffs, don’t know if baldwin hs will be home or on the road, but watch their place kicker, c santos. he is above and beyond most pk in the state and has the leg to convert from 50+ yds.
kev-1,
wth? 9 for 19 for 129 yards? No idea why Smith is even still in the League!
Yeah. Phins. (shaking head)
Throw to Davone on first and second. No need third down..
God bless Jojo. Hate seeing broken anything except plays…
well, Alex Smith is hurt now, yet to be determined how bad. And Carr is not the answer. If I was Colt, I would buy a ticket to San Fran and show up at Singletary’s office door tomorrow morning and say “hey coach, I’d like an honest shot to help your team.” That is of course if Singletary isn’t cleaning out his office on monday morning.

#163… Papajoe2… If the QB has the ball behind the line of scrimmage, even if he starts to scramble and is dropped behind the line of scrimmage, I thought they considered it a sack. I guess not.
Borel had that TD run of 35 yards.
He carried the ball 12 times.
He finished with a net of -1 yards rushing.
So, he “carried” the ball (as the QB) 11 times for -36 yards.
And, only ONE of that was a Sack?
Maybe there’s some sort of “between the tackles” rule or something.

I sent a letter to them, and had to go outside to take care of stuff since it warmed up today.
Just got done and started looking to catch up on stuff.
Notice they changed it to the correct start date for Round Two.
I need to post the correction on my Facebook too!

how can the hawaii warriors be behind nevada in both ap and usa today polls?

Al… Kinda feels like certain coaches who vote in the Coaches Poll are trying to keep certain teams up in the polls to strengthen Boise State, TCU, and some Big 12 teams.
Sorry, guys, but this song has been stuck in my hed the past couple of days, and I need help in filling in the right words…
“The Exchange…

Makes your mind…

And if any of the words above are wrong, please correct me.
I tried searching for the commercials, but no can find!

Hiya Ronnie! Got your “Calf Call” listed in the Events Calendar. When you see that elusive, cruisin’ Ed, ask him about helping setting up a under $400 7-night Mexico cruise for the LoCal Tsai-kos….and Garret too! 😕
It’s been a while since Ronnie’s last “Calf Call” (a lighter version of Al’s Cattle Calls here) and we have some new bloggers from the Los Angeles area who might not know Ronnie and the group. Here are some photos of their earlier meetings:

I encourage all readers here who live in the So. Cal area to attend and meet your fellow Warrior fans!

The orange-ade called Exchange.”
Watching the replay. They gave UH a tackle for loss on Borel at the beginning of the 3rd qtr. Looks like if the QB is out of the pocket, it’s a TFL. Shouldn’t any tackle of the QB behind the LOS be a sack?
So I’m watching the game replay an the half time they were talking Boise States “Smurf Turf” an showed a team made there field “Red” an they were discussing Teams possible turf an someone said Hawaii a “RAINBOW” Turf thats interesting But I would prefer just the regular ol grassy turf.
With all the success the team is having you would think that some recruits are looking seriously at Hawaii. But, so far, there is only one commitment, Blake Muir. The coaches have been targeting players and there are a lot of offers being made. I saw a highlight reel of WR Tyler Trosin from Folsum, CA and to me he looks like a player who can be like Greg Salas. You have to see for yourself. I hope the coaches are trying to contact hm. So far, he
is showing interest in several PAC 10 schools and Iowa State. But, he would be perfect for Hawaii’s Run and Shoot Offense. On top of that, he scores a lot of touchdowns, 25 in 2009.
Thanks so much, GmaHoney!
All I could come up with was,
“The -Meadowgold- called Exchange”
And I knew it was wrong!
Orange-ade
Orange-ade
TD handshake, I believe, was intitted by #3, Bradley, as he stuck out his hand to Salas and he responded in kind.
Gotta admit, it was very different and refreshing!

#206… JM2375… I know, yeah? Must be something in the rules, or left to the subjectivity/objectivity of the statistician.
Is there as college and/or pro team that does not have a “spread offense/run-n-shoot” scheme within their system? Seems to me that every team I see on TV has used it.
A-House… maybe it’s just not called “spread offense” or “run-n-shoot” in the Big boy conferences… it’s just called that if non-AQ teams use it.
gmahoney:
ah, yes, we loved Exchange concentred orange “juice” – used to buy that from the PX or commissary all the time – miss that wonderful taste!!!!!!!
A-house, I was a little girl, but remember my job was to refill the “Exchange” pitcher. 1 can Exchange, 4 cans water. They came out with grape, we tried it once, but never had it again. Always the orange.
Oh yeah, what’s “incumbent weather”? 🙄
The did the “handshake” on every offensive touchdown. Check out a few of the other TDs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzhMd4mrcpo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ6mk77hLOY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLdQI3SoYzQ
I didn’t see any handshakes on the Graves return for TD. Maybe the special teams didn’t get the memo.
I believe it’s only considered a sack if the QB drops back to pass. If it is a designed QB run, it is considered a tackle for loss. If it’s unclear whether it’s a pass or run, it’s up to the stats people to decide. Apparently every time that Borel was tackled behind the line except once, they thought he was trying to run. Well, yeah he was running…running for his life. I thought that tackle behind the line by Paipai for a 20 yard loss should have definitely been a sack. Most of the others, he was clearly running.
On ESPNs play by play,
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=302960328&period=0
they counted a lot more plays as sacks, but the official stats come from the stats guy in the stadium.
Thanks Matt for the clarification.

Re #219 – didn’t one of the announcers say USU is among the nation’s leaders in sacks allowed? Maybe their statisticians just didn’t want them to bleed more sacks…maybe.
“statisticians” … 🙄
jm2375,
You’re welcome. The yardage is kind of confusing too. Sacks in NCAA football are counted as negative rushing yards. In the NFL, they are counted against TEAM passing yards. That’s why if you look at this box score from the just completed Raiders/Broncos game:
http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=301024007
you don’t see any negative rushing yards for Kyle Orton even though he was sacked 4 times. Instead, you see his individual passing yards as 198, but the team passing yards as 165. If you look at this box score from the Warriors game
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=302960328
Moniz’s passing yards matches the team passing yards even though he was sacked once.
Jack Flash,
You’re welcome. There are some other game highlights here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/UHUSU2010
PowderPuff,
#224. USU has allowed 14 sacks this season. UH has allowed 18 sacks. Utah State is #65. Hawaii is #75. Kind of deceiving since Hawaii passes so much.
http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/ncaa-m-footbl-fbs-team-sacks-allowed.html
Boise is #1 at only one sack allowed all season.
#224 Matt – that will change when we stomp them.
Pomai,
I could care less how many sacks we get as long as we beat the smurfs.
If you watch the highlight of Salas’ one-handed TD reception, Salas calls for the ball before and during the play.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGnmPRSTAA
It’s like he said to the DB: Hi, I’m Greg Salas. You’re about to be on my highlight reel. If you’re lucky, we’ll get on ESPN. 😀
This is the season that UH needed for the future of the Athletic Department! The success will get more people to the games and buying PPV (much needed $$$), and the BCS points the Warriors are earning are setting them up for the next conference merry-go-round.
SH has a thread on the handshake celebration.
http://www.sportshawaii.com/sh/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37551&start=15
I guess it’s not an original idea, but I still like it. I really like the idea of all of the fans doing it too.
Sagarin rankings:
11. BSU (the SOS has killed them in the BCS standings!)
22. Nevada
37. UH (need to get into the top 25 in the BCS, winning will take care of that)
70. Fresno State
81. La Tech
92. Utah State
100. Idaho
129. SJSU
165. NMSU
147. UNLV
242. Charleston Southern (only 245 schools are rated)
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt10.htm
Hard to believe that BSU keeps dropping and that they are down to #11 in Sagarin. If/when UH beats them they will be barely in the top 25.
Idaho, NMSU, and UNLV won’t give UH many computer points…so, we need BSU to get a higher ranking to help UH.
As much as I LOVE the handshake, they better be careful that it doesn’t come across as “choreographed.”
NCAA Football Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(1)(d) prohibits “Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves).
Andersen (another BCS computer) leaves out the D-IAA schools (only 120 schools ranked), so that helps the ranking of the bottom of the WAC.
6. BSU
24. Nevada
33. UH
53. Fresno State
83. La Tech
86. Idaho
87. Utah State
100. SJSU
109. NMSU
105. UNLV
Nevada has 1 loss and UH has 2 losses. I understand why they are ahead of UH…there have been a lot of examples where UH was rated above teams that beat them. For example, Sagarin has Colorado *10* spots below UH. Andersen has Colorado 5 spots below UH.
The new BCS evaluation period started this year, so 2008/2009 are behind us. If UH needs this up for this season and next season, the MWC will have to come begging if they want to get/keep AQ status. One more team ranked in the top 25 could push them over the top…it would be nice for UH to have the negotiation power and watch the MWC scramble.
No travel subsidy and joining an AQ conference is actually possible if UH keeps this up. That would insure the future of *all* UH sports.
Chad Owens helped his team win yesterday and earn a playoff spot.

The computers seem to still like Nevada, despite them losing to us. It must really think highly of their win against Cal. Five of the six computers have Nevada in the top 25…and when combined with their #26 position in both human polls, it (unfortunately) doesn’t surprise me that they showed up in the BCS rankings. Sucks, yes.

The Packers got robbed of a touchdown catch.
It seems part of the ball touched the ground
even tho the receiver had it securely in his hands.
So the ground can negate a pass reception.
And in the case of the Dolphins, it seems the Steelers
qb (easier to spell qb…) fumble was caused by the
ground therefore not a fumble?
Is Denver really that bad or did the Fraiders just get lucky? 59(?!!)
Ooops, not the Packers but Brett Farve’s team,

UH 49-27.
PolyMom,
It is time to raise the bar! Do you think UH should wait until after the Boise Game to take a bowl bid?
A win over Boise would increase a bowl bid from outside the state, increase outside exposure, make UH more of an acceptable choice in the conference musical chairs that will start in earnest after this season??
Happy returns to the Warrior team and ST!
Hope you had a restful trip home. Always better to come home a winner!!
Now, looking forward to men’s and women’s basketball. Gottosa see the men’s Vb team also with the 2 6’9” and 6’10” true freshman. Take some pressure off Omloft and “sky walker”.
DJ,
How in da hell is nevaduh ranked in the bcs after getting beaten by the warriors?
One could ask the same question in regards to VT. How in the hell is VT ranked when they lost to James Madison? 😆
If you guys are interested in looking at more computers, Kenneth Massey compiles a list of multiple rankings (polls and computers):
http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm
Elpadrino #257:
Interesting sceanario for UH – wonder if Hawaii Bowl officials will discuss this with JD before Saturday? – of course, should UH win on Saturday – don’t want to jinx the team
What bowl committee would want to invite UH at 11 & 2? Will the Hawaii faithful support this bowl game? Too many 1 loss teams in the BCS conferences. My prrediction still has an outside chance that UH will go to a major bowl – oh, how exciting!!!!!!!!!
El Padrino – all the non-BCS bowls have conference tie-ins, so UH can’t be invited to them. Most don’t make money anyway, so the Hawaii Bowl is the best option for UH. It’s a win-win situation for UH and the Hawaii Bowl. The other bowls with WAC tie-ins leave a lot to be desired, travel-wise.
*One* non-AQ team going to a BCS bowl is more than enough for the BCS snobs. 😈
JM,
Unless, its two non-aq schools. In which case, they put them both in the same bowl game. Far, far away from the BCS schools. So they can save face. 😉
Please don’t get all excited about speculating about going to post-season bowls. We need to take it one game at a time. Idaho is up next and I would like to have that win under our belts before we talk about the teams chances of getting going somewhere. We would qualify with another win. ONE SNAP AND CLEAR!
By the way, I would rather that special teams kick it short and minimize the run back then have one taken to the house on a normal kick or even one that reaches that endzone but did not have any hangtime. especially since the refs seem to turn a blind eye to holding and blocks in the back, whenever we kick off. That Nevada run back for 84 yds. came courtesy of 2 blatant takedown holds that opened up the lane for their runner. GO WARRIORS!
A-House – As a senior Tsaiko member, you of all people should know (since this issue has been discussed on this blog countless times) that UH has only three options each year: BCS bowl (only if undefeated and it involves other factors) , Hawaii Bowl (if bowl eligible) or Toilet Bowl (i.e. last year).
Remember the year the smurfs went to the Fiesta Bowl? Hawai’i was 2nd in the WAC, which put them in the Humanitarian Bowl – which is where the WAC champ plays. Hawai’i opted for the Hawai’i Bowl because it made more sense for travel, and it guaranteed the fans would come out for the Hawai’i Bowl…
I’m more concerned with how UH finishes their season….and most importantly, beating the tar out of BSU; a suitable going away gift, as they say. I dream of that event.
I’s got to go now seeing how the tornado sirens are blazing away at 10pm. and now i got big ass hail comin down……good bye for now.

UH apparel on sale again at Costco. I didn’t check the prices but I know was cheap. Saw some volleyball t-shirts too.
Note to self: Self, retired people don’t have to go to Costco on Sundays.
People overtaking people in the parking lot. Waiting for a parking space, another car slides in from the backside. Speeders trying to beat other cars to get an open parking space. Wow, these little old ladies can be vicious. On to the free samples. Rough take! Ha,ha,ha! I beat you to the last piece of Philly Steak Sandwich. The ladies are worster than in the parking lot.
papajoe2
Costco on the weekend would place me in OCCC; i could not, cannot and will not deal with the maniacs in the store, in the parking lot, in the bathroom (koamahu you listening?), in the aisles, and at the snack bar. These people act as if there is a Level 20 Hurricane coming to Hawaii….
I feel your pain brother, after I got T-boned in the fresh produce aisle by a Korean Indy 500 impersonator, I said, ‘honey…….i’ll be in the car….’
that’s why i like Sam’s Club in the ‘off-hours’…….good luck.
I am a supporter of Coach Mack from day one and I am happy with the progress of our Warriors. It takes a special kind of coach to be successful in Hawaii because of the many challenges from our cultural enviroment. Coach VonAppen could not and did not understand this and failed. If you brought a so called top tier coach to the islands and he did not grasp our island lifestyle he too would not succeed. Coach Mack got it from the get go and you can feel his love of the islands. He has an outstanding staff of coaches and Coach Rolo is doing a heck of a job. Coach Aranda is also doing a terrific job of developing our style of Hawaii defense with the other defensive coaches. We are fortunate to have them all. My prediction for the upcoming game against Idaho: HAWAII 63 Idaho 14
GO WARRIORS!!!!!
Oh by the way I had predicted HAWAII 42 Utah State 24…..I was close but boy did our defense do their job.
OK since nobody wen ansa jm2375’s #217 “What’s incumbent weather?” I goin stay fo go tell to you. No foget I went public skuul and I stay no da ansa. Incumbent weather is soo bad dat outside weather stay COME INside so you get all bent. INCOMBENT!!! So simply you guys. How can you no stay get ’em???

and apologieez to any or many Tsaikos and Tsaikettes I may have caused heartburn because my enthusiasm might not be same kine as yours. so if my english has offended anyone, i apologize.
what i mean is, i should say nice things to Fresno and Nevada. cannot blame the whole States or team for the direction or bearing of a misguided, miscalculating or baboozilng few at da top so, to da regular peeps, da non leg whippaz of Idaho, good luck!
Why did the Utah State crowd start disappearing at halftime? It was only a one-touchdown difference in the score at that point…
Was it the weather? On the news today they said the temperature went down into the mid-30’s. Barely above freezing.
Amazing that the tropical-climate Warriors were playing rained-on and wet in that miserable cold, not just playing, but playing at such a high level too.
I love this win, just love it, but I guess there’s a really good chance now that the UH-Boise game won’t be available on PPV, only on ESPNU.
But get Idaho first, remember what they did last year to Rodney Bradley.
#290 sff, Nice article. At first I thought it was for football and they said that they will not schedule anybody with less that 5,000 in average attendance. Even USU has more than that for football, but then I realized that it was for basketball. They can come here if they like. Play the Warriors. Go home with all kinds of excuses they didn’t even know existed.
I need to correct something here.
The player who leg-whipped Rodney Bradley and nearly ended his career was Shiloa Keo, not Jojo Dickson. I am 100% certain about that.
Mojo,
you are right! give credit where credit is due…..
WarriorMojo
howzit.
so i googled Shiloh Keo and found out he is from Everett Washington, was most inspirational dis and dat, and started as true frosh in 06 and played in 4 games but was hurt in da 4th game. so Idaho musta petitioned NCAA to get him the extra year.
2 me the interesting thing is that Shiloh is playing now, so they neva count 06. he got a year extra.
and i was wondering, would UH have gotten him an extra year if the situation happened here in Hawaii? anybody care to guess?
an an
if day talkin llike dis guy is on somekinda watch for his heroics inda WAC, how come day not seeing him fo wat he wen do, a false cracka?
Monday ESPNU at 4 p.m. Na Wahine vs Utah State in vb. Set your DVR early, the game will be over by the time each and everyone get home from work.
espn3 picked up the Colorado/Oklahoma game for this Saturday. So IF the Buffaloes beat the Sooners, that would help our RPI rating, right? Then possibly we would leap frog over the Wolfpack in the standings. That’s a big IF.
I can’t believe espn3 picked up the San Jose State/New Mexico State game, but won’t pick up the Hawai’i/Idaho game. Good grief!! Oh well, gotta pack da hale on Saturday anyway.
Saw the handshake celebration last Sunday during the Cowboys-Vikings game. Roy Williams caught a TD pass from Romo and Miles Austin leaped over a standing Williams and got flagged for excessive celebration. Every Cowboy’s TD after that, they just shook hands like UH did. Maybe they got the idea from that. Good idea and classy!
#294, 295 –
Guys – the player from Maui fractured his leg THIS week vs. NMSU. He is NOT the one responsible for last season’s incident! 😐

I like the handshake instead of chest bumping. Shows respect for a job well done. Like Coach Mack says, the team is on a business trip, and they certainly took care of business. Classy.

–> no mo backroom area, we got the whole area reserved
sowee!
previously i said that jojo’s mon and dad are good people, but now i tell you a story about his dad, mynah, and his horses. his dad raises horses in the keawe pasture near maui lani golf course. one of his mare has a foal and is doing real good. when the foal was over a year old, someone or a tribe stole the foal, killed it and had it for food. i guess some people they no respect other people’s private property.
mon = mom
The handshake thing is more of a tongue n cheek gesture.
A little cockiness disguised as humility.
Dont read too far into it. Us young folk can be quite sarcastic…
Its still cool though!
Whatever the motivation, it still is cool.
Five, reason why Hawaii will never make it to the top 25 AP College Football Poll.
1) To many games on Oceanic Time Warner PPV,
2) I don’t think the AP College Voter is going to pay to watch Hawaii play.
3) Show Hawaii home games for free to the Continental US, so AP Voters can Vote,
4) Need more exposure show all games on ESPN,
5) Maybe AP Voters is Waiting for MONIZ to CUT his HAIR , to get some Respect,
skycap…
too many fans don’t respect the head coach … it reflects on the whole team. It’s really a shame.
I’ve voted 15 times for Coach Mack on http://www.coachoftheyear.com/ . That’s almost 5% of the total vote… it really saddens me. Look at the list of leaders… don’t they reflect the rankings? Our Coach Mac is at #34 and maybe, just maybe, that’s just where our team belongs, too in the eyes of the Nation.
g’night…
Long weekend for the “picker” but luv when I get home Sunday to watch the Mack Show. Another outstanding close up on Mana Silva. All the best to his his family and his future in medicine.
Can’t imagine a better emergency physician than a take charge kinda person.
Plus braddah grad from the Big Usland campus of the Kamehameha Warriors.

LMFAO!
I never noticed the handshakes…Seriously, from what I know of Salas, it doesn’t surprise me.
Still…LMFAO!
Very……… informative and interesting Blog… Thanks… for sharing.:-)
It would be good for the Warriors to focus and concentrate on the game. It’s okay for fans to think about it being a payback game, but not for the players. Players need to focus on their game, and concentrate on their assignments. Extracurricular activity or thoughts will not be of any help to the Warriors.
Warriors focus and concentrate.
1 – Do it right.
2 – do it 100%
Don’t let any other thoughts get in your way.
skycap…five reasons why hawaii will eventually crack the top 25.
1. we aren’t totally unknown as you believe ever since the 12-0 season when we climbed as high as 6th.
2. we beat idaho and it will be hard to ignore us much longer with a 6 game win streak.
3. others in the top 25 will start to fall out.
4. usc will start to win and climbe up the ladder real fast and we’ll tag along in the tailwind.
5. after we beat boise state, yup, we’ll beat them in the blue as a farewell present, they can no longer ignore our return to the top 25.
yup, mr. pride., idaho is not a team for us to overlook. idaho who’s passing numbers are second to hawaii has the fire power to give us a run for our money.
of great concern to me, as should be the players and coaches, is to not get caught in reading all the hype in the media and the back slapping antics of the fans and band wagoners.
to be a top team one must look beyond the trees and see the forest.
of deep concern to me are the injuries to hanohano and meatoga.
but, i did like the way zach masch amped up his game and i did like the way cal lee pulled him on the side after he crushed the qb and appeared to tamper his exuberance thus avoiding any future penalties and lost of focus.
did it again….
tamper = temper
pomai…i guess you missed my weekly 45-17 entry.
Good morning everyone!
Good Morning Tsaiko Nation !
In ORDER for Hawaii to get ANY respect you got to get out of the WAC !
I am sorry to tell you this but the WAC is a WEAK football conference as
if it was not for Boise State who has built themselves among the National
poll voters as a respected power in football then the little exposure you see
is all you are going to get. After Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada leaves
then the WAC is really going to look BAD regardless of who comes in plain & simple.
NATIONAL recognition only comes when you BEAT the BIG BOYS as over the years
when opportunity comes for Hawaii to PERFORM in BIG games it all ends up being
a blown out performance as past losses to USC, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Wisconsin
and a 500 Notre Dame team shows the national viewing audience that we can’t play
or win vs. the BIG BOYS !
The departure of June Jones really crippled the progam as he brought CREDIBILITY to
Hawaii and EXPOSURE as his face was everywhere on national tv and the media
ENJOYED interviewing him as he was RESPECTED among the football purists and national
voters. The only national exposure Coach Mac brought was the ill advise remarks he made
at Notre Dame in which he has apologized dearly for it but the national media attention to it
did him NO justice as PERCEPTION is everything in how we look and judge in this internet
technology information world we live in today.
Beating the defectors and possible Boise State while running the table on an undefeated season in the WAC while winning it’s championship is not going to change a whole lot maybe our inner feelings and PRIDE we have for Hawaii BUT in the minds of political sports powers who make the decesions on who plays who for NATIONAL GLORY then we are still the brides
maid waiting at the alter.
What lies in the future for Hawaii athletics we can only speculate and discuss on this blog site as the Warrior football team performance has been good so far but it must keep winning for the future of it’s existance and ALL other UH sports who will follow must do the same as well with fans coming out and supporting the team ANY WAY they can locally and on the mainland !
Have a GREAT day folks and keep supporting our Rainbow Warriors !
Just voted for Coach Mack. He can easily pass a whole bunch of guys above him. C’mon, people. All of this means support and exposure for our University! Get the vote out!

big hats off to you. hang in there, buddy! you da man! because of you, we get to see the team up close and personal, and no let our man hide behind da f-youz! 😀 keep askin da tuff questions, because summa us want answers, makes us feel we’re in da wagun wit our team.
so again, big thank you for askin him about the 2 point stuff. in da end wuz no big deal, but it coulda been. i’m learnin dat coach is a learner too. the team went over to the sidelines after the game, thanked the fans who showed up. for me, that was hUGE
and…..

you are right… and… we can’t do anything about yesterday…. we can only build on yesterday for a better today and tomorrow.
our Warriors are doing their part…
but you’re right about the national perception… JJ did us good, but the way he took off, and the stories behind the stories.. he neva do us all so good in da end. but past is past, i no kea… good luck to him…. Mack is doing good now, with Rolo and Aranda doing great jobs and the rest of the coaches producing great results, making the Warriors feelin good about demselves, and for all us in Hawaii. not just Salas and Mo feelin good, but all da Warriors2.
i’ll see y’all who show at this coming Tgate. have to go to a family outing in the early day so i might just get to the ending of the Tgate, but i’ll be there and be back after the game against da enemy Vandals, all smiling and stuffs…
well okay den…
have a great day Tsaikos.
see you Sat. MP
hi ho hi ho. esme woooshhhhh!
So, Ferd’s article says what I have been openly worrying about here…Fresno and Nevada will pay significantly less than the $5 million in the contract.
http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/sportsnews/20101025_departure_resolution_nears.html
This is *not* a surprise…Rainbowtique has been selling a lot more Warrior merchandise during the winning streak.
http://www.khon2.com/news/local/story/UH-Warriors-winning-streak-results-in-increased/QrT05BJg00a-fWsTF4uX2g.cspx
The biggest reason UH will crack the top 25 next week: ESPN will be showing the UH-BSU game and they will want both teams ranked to maximize the ratings for the game.
Plus, it is silly to say that it is impossible for UH to make the top 25…beating BSU would give a huge jump in the rankings for any team.
Al, I already picked 45-17.
Sorry al but gmahoney picked that score just before you did. Sorry first come first served. No reservations, just ask d1. LOL
al maybe gmahoney will arm wrestle you for the score, but I’d put my money on her….

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
This post is very usefull thx!

I very enjoyed studying this one and it touched my heart
As I was browsing the internet, I searched for a lot interesting post. I found many but not as admirable as this. Can I use this for the research study I am working on and of course with the full credit to you, dear writer?

To get a six pack you have to lose the lard, which means being careful about what you eat and drink. It’s almost impossible to exercise enough to compensate for a bad diet.
