Colt Brennan is in town. He said he will be attending tonight’s game.

It’s probably just me, but I’ve never understood the fascination with UH’s attendance figures and money situation. I suppose it would be important if I were an athletic director, but since I’m not even an athletic writer, and every time I go to a UH event the electricity appears to be working, then UH is doing OK. I mean, do you go to L&L and count the customers or worry if they’re able to cover next year’s chicken katsu supplies?
I suppose attendance is tied to popularity, which, by extension, is tied to worth, which, by extension, is tied to UH’s economic health. Then again, the popular movies never win Oscars, because they’re not as worthy as the artsy movies we pretend we like. Notice the artsy-fartsy have to tell you what they saw on PBS while the rest of us just have to say, “The Situation,” and we all know what we watched?
The point of this rant is that tonight’s UH-Nevada game is important whether 20,000 show up or they “pack it.” It’s important because it’s an elimination game between two WAC teams. After all, the Fresno media declared Fresno State dead in the WAC race after it suffered its first league loss last week.
People might talk about the fans’ wait-and-see approach, but then again, UH had a wait-and-see marketing plan. Nevada is the only marquee team on UH’s home WAC schedule, but the pitch for this game didn’t start until this past Monday. Just because the team takes it one game at a time does not mean that it should be marketed that way.
So worry about Colin Kaepernick escaping defensive containment. Take bets on when Chris Ault will make his replay challenge. But don’t be concerned about the gate. The lights work, right?

The marketing people have been slacking. What is McNamara doing? Even in a bad season, there should be 40K at the stadium for this game. This is a good season. The Warriors are getting better every week and are playing better than many expected. Oh well, too little, too late.
Nevada is the only FBS team to have never trailed this season. They have also scored on their first offensive drive in every game so far this season. Both of those streaks will end tonight. It’s time to Smack the Pack.

It’ a shame ESPN is not televising UH vs Nevada. I don’t believe there’s another game in college this time at night. If the nation is not interested in watching UH, at least a lot of them would be in a ranked team such as Nevada and the wunderkind Qb, Colin K. SMU has been getting a lot of TV national air time, probably June Jones influence with the national media big wigs. Colin and his fellow running back will be a challenge to our defense but so will Bryant Moniz, Kealoha Pilares, Greg Salas, Alex Green and company to Nevada’s defense. It will be an exciting game. Too Bad ESPN does not see it that way.

If not for Hawaii, I feel for Nevada they’re not being nationally televised. Colin K, who runs like the Galloping Ghost Red Grange and throws like Johnny Unitas (I may be streching that a bit). We may never see a 6’6″ athlete do those amazing things again. Shame on ESPN!! And there is rumors that Chris Ault has complained to Homeland Security that Greg Salas is an escapee from area 51, Nevada, because no human can play the way he’s played. Well Greg McMacken countered with turning in Colin K to Homeland Security that he escaped from area 51 because no human is supposed to do what he does. Rumors has it that Greg McMacken will recruit at area 51 from now on. He’s interested in several lineman that are 7’5′, 399 ibs. I think Nevada is in for a very rude awakening today. Warrior defense will be the best they’ve faced all season and the offense much much better, too.
I should note that Riley gets easily flustered with the pass rush. He threw 3 INT against Nevada when they put on the blitz.
Hope the turnstile overcomes the less than spectacular promotion. Two of the highest scoring offenses in the country with Moniz and ‘dat oddah guy. Even Vegas thinks this is going to be the highest scoring game this week in college football based on the ‘totals’ line. This is a must see game!

Auburn’s Cam Newton is a moose! Half time highlights coming up on CBS should show the touchdown where he just crushed an Arkansas player at the 4 on his way in for a touchdown.

me through my older years as I am a top tier 4.5 singles and doubles player !
Picked up tennis when I was in Hawaii as I took a class from Dr. Jack Rocker
as he saw my ability and love that I had for the game and 34 years later I play
it everyday at various tennis facilities all over Los Angeles.
Once an athlete, always an athlete as I am in solid shape with good quickness
and solid eye hand coordination. I teach atheltics at my $54,000.00 playground
with NBA Spalding fiber glass basketball rims, USA Volleyball poles and net that
can drop down to tennis, duracourt floor base and I recently got two Soccer goals
donated from the LA Galaxy professional soccer team !
LOVE athletics sir as I swim in my back pool and share the love of ALOHA who
may come by to visit me by offering a pair of trunks with their favorite beverage
to drink it all down !

USC and CAL are further apart than USC and UNLV. Actually, they’re about the same distance as USC and Arizona. SMU loses to Navy.

99Club… yeah, I’m watching this Arkansas v. Auburn game too. I don’t see how both are ranked as high as they are… neither have a defense to speak of. I swear, it looked like we tackled better than that against USC. Arkansas is just letting Cam Newton run all over the place. And they are so out of position against Auburn’s receivers, it’s ugly. Only reason it’s a game is because Auburn hasn’t been playing defense, until late in the fourth quarter. I mean, when was the last time an SEC game was 65-43, with 2+ minutes still left on the clock? Looks more like a WAC game!
Wonder if Colt will visit some tailgates…hmmmmm?

The State of Hawaii has a Kaepernick look alike who is a senior at St. Louis High School. Even though he is already committed to a Pac-10 school, Hawaii should still have him on their short list. Not sure if the do.

The BCS and the college foorball ranking system (as usual) are drastically flawed and skewed towards the big market teams. If the NCAA & the big bowl sponsors would aproach the situation with honesty and integrity, ony wins and losses would matter and a playoff system would greatly improve the sanctity os the game.

Yes, I know this comparing apples and oranges, but Georgetown’s tuition for this academic year includes a $335 fee for use of Yates Fieldhouse (includes indoor pool, indoor track, weight machines, etc – you get the picture) and a $100 activity fee. Students must still pay for tickets to sporting events (and possibly bus fare to the games). Basketball is played off-campus, but at least it’s closer to campus than it was when I was there.
Dana is there with all the Wahine Basketball team, but I guess she did not get the note. All her girls are wearing red shirts, with Warrior Logo.

Coach Tomey was saying how the wind was affecting the punts (knocking them down) in the 1st qtr and that UNR didn’t mind running out the 1st qtr in order to have the wind at their backs. As we saw with the near fumble on the last punt, the wind plays tricks on the receiving team too. Let’s hope we get a turnover that way if we ever have to punt into that wind.

I think that ESPN3 picked up all the WAC games this week except for the one that was televised on ESPNU, so I’m sure that ESPN3 will do the Utah State game and the WAC Sports Network will provide the feed.
In a perfect world ESPN would add the UH-Utah State game to its TV lineup…but I don’t know if 2-4 Utah State is attractive enough to ESPN.
Lots of “shooting-themselves-in-the-foot” perpetuated on both sides, but a win is a win.

Yes, it would be great for ESPN to pick next week’s game up on ESPN2 or ESPNU, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think they might have if the game was in Hawaii with the later start time. Since it is at 3 pm Utah time, it is going to be on at the same time as a lot of other games that would probably draw a bigger audience.

Well, the announcers left the broadcast speculating what this loss would to to Nevada’s ranking, if anything. Uh, yeah. Like they have a chance of staying ranked after this loss.
I am not saying that they did not give the Warriors respect — they did. Maybe they were just shocked at how badly Nevada’s offense looked for most of the game.

The defense definitely won this game. Game ball should go to them. I don’t know what Coach Aranda has done differently after the first three games, but he should keep doing it. This may be the best defensive performance in Mack’s head coaching tenure.

I think the 40,800 turnstile number floated upstream sounds fair; we’ll see the real turnstile count once UH releases their box score stats.
I’ll have to admit that the “D” has come along and is playing very nicely. So, we can say that there are two pieces of the puzzle. The specil team put the team in unnecessary tight positions with poor play.
This cannot continue. Great job by the offense, Moniz is terrific.

The Defense was swarming like a nest full of pissed off hornets and in the 1st half they looked like something out of the Big 10 when stopping the run. Seriously, BEST defensive showing I have seen in the past several years. Just AWESOME!
Of course me being the cautious optimist I must say that our SPECIAL TEAMS were indeed a bit “Special” *cough, cough* tonight. For the most part this season our special teams have been pretty decent, maybe its just an anomaly that we may have underperformed at times tonight.
I was disappointed with the onside kick and how we handled that. Our hands unit looked lost when the ball passed the 10 yard buffer…They didn’t seem to know what, where, who should catch the ball.
Also after the TD in the 4th Q when we went up 27-14…Can anyone explain why we didn’t go for the 2 pt conversion to get us to 28?…I mean the 1 point does what exactly…26 if we didn’t convert for 2 is just the same as 27 right?…It turns it into a 2 possession game for Nevada to win, while a 2pt conversion would have meant a 2 possession game to tie. It’s these “tiny” things that will come back to bite us in the butt, but shouldn’t be an issue because its just a common sense thing to me at least. Then again I don’t get paid the big bucks so who am I to say right? haha.
Overall I loved the win and glad we sent the Pack, packin. And Coach Mack is hilarious…”They want to leave us, so they are the enemy…” Luv ya Coach Mack! =)

Most important game of the season coming up this week. Need to learn how to handle success. Need to continue playing with a sense of urgency. We played as underdoges for the last two games.
