Whoops
You know you’re old when you forget to post a blog item.
Apologies.
Anyway, things I learned today:
• Former UH linebacker R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane has earned a callback with Sacramento of the United Football League. The UFL serves as the NFL’s developmental league. He reports next week.
• Rainbow Wahine softball player Jenna Rodriguez’s nickname is, naturally, J-Rod. She said she is Mexican and Canadian.
• The UH head coaches are scheduled to have evaluation meetings with administrators this week. Rainbow Wahine basketball coach Dana Takahara-Dias’ meeting is today.

Congrats to RJ!
top 5?
top 5?
Methinks Coach Dana met or exceeded all expectations.
I thought I was old and couldn’t remember how to refresh the blog to see new comments.
Welcome back fearless leader
For the first time in June I’m excited about softball and college baseball. Thank you coach Trap and coach Bob.
Hello, folks. Long time no blog.
Top Ten anyway!
jmxxxx…me thinks u right. Coach Dana has done well this past year. Now the expectations get higher but she can meet them. Looking at last year, her team will be one year into her system and I expect a moe exciting team in 2010.
10?
So my kid sees a television promo for Lakers vs. Celtics and he says, “So who’s Bird and Magic?” He does know Michael Jordan, but barely. Amazing how time moves on.
#5 & #9
Agreed.
Guess Coolen and Trap don’t need eval meetings. 😀
Nice to see the daily blog up … phew… I don’t like sudden death TV series and blogs that end pre-maturely…
Good luck to R.J!
J-Rod is Mexican-Canadian? With her demeanor, they should call a double shot of Tequila and Whiskey straight on the rocks a J-Rod Walk-off.
Good to see that I made the top 25…woo hoo…
Good afternoon Tsaikos….hope all is well….
Gongrats to the Bows and Wahine….continue to make Hawaii proud!!!
Whoa, Mojo…I get the same question from the young ‘uns in my office…LMAO
mih –
In case anyone cared, Michele Smith has a fan page….
http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Michele-Smith/23484988508
and wmojo…do you recall the likes of russell/cousy/jones and baylor/west/chamberlain?
Stretch – #17 – ainokea
Keep the dream alive, R.J….
Hopefully, Coaches Coolen and Trapasso can “delay” their meetings with JD for awhile….
I deserve to be #1 since I’ve been waiting all-day long for ST to put up his post……..bwaaaaah!!!…just joking, tehe! top twenty-den.
gun-funit!
Stretch… I no kea….
NSF – great minds think alike! 😆
What kind of extension U tink for coach trap? Me tinks 2 yrs with option to cancel if tings no work out. I wuz looking for his head because of some game decisions of lack of. Now da boyz stay cranking but what a huge turn around. Is it coaching or something else?
jmxxxx no tinking about da bread pudding too…!#@$!???
Al,
Saw Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich @ The Forum. Even met George Mikan. I was only two at the time. 🙂
NorthShoreFan,
It’s the stadium upgrades… 😉 …nah nah.. finally the pieces have come together and with the proper strength conditioning it can continue to do so. Just gotta get on the horn and recruit.. recruit.. recruit…. while UH is HOT!
NSF – wuz thinking about making it for the KKall. (where’s a-joe?)
jmxxxx…can u send some to kauai?…inn waimea…just tell um its for the ground floor unit!?@#??…plz?
made…u right..got to build on this past year and keep building..may not get to where the big time programs are but as we can all see..with the right “formula” we can be one hell of a program.
Fantastic thing about this year is the programs that are going to compete for the Big Laulau! Cannot compare with the budget for some of these programs but we there! Softball, Baseball, Track, Tennis…Cheeeehooo!
ST,
A few Q’s:
What did you mean that JD has to pay for World Series rings? Does that mean the team gets them just for making it or does the university have to pay for national championship rings if they go all the way?
Does Bob Coolen’s contract include bonus incentives?
I think BOTH Coolen and Trap NEED evaluation meetings.
Both for different reasons though. 😉
During Coolen’s meeting, Jim Donovan should get the athletic department checkbook out and ready to go… 😎
Hi ST!
Hi W-M!
NorthShoreFan. Are you here already? Join us for Rotary at Waimea Plantation Cottages’ Grove Cafe tonight at 5:30.
You are staying in my neighborhood!
I forgot that it’s June. My sister will kill me….
Softball!!!
MIH- from the last blog… BWAHAHAHA! That’s what they said… little did they know what it meant!
hiho
Bess doesn’t want to be pigeon-holed as “just a slot receiver”, which makes sense because Miami doesn’t use 3-WR formations very much. Their top 2 WRs will get the bulk of the playing time and receptions, so Bess doesn’t want to just be considered the #3 (slot) guy.
Some questions Jim Donovan can pose to Coach Coolen:
Where do you think a separate bathroom should be in place for the players use only?
Where can we put the new locker rooms?
Are there any particular corporate sponsors would you like us to approach?
LizK..not yet…friday and sat…come back sunday..wil have a couple of friends too…will be at Zenshuji both nights.
although there is net connection, won’t have a puter to post on sat…..like I said this week is a mixed bag again…will be in suspense for the Wahine and Kane ball games…will be mute for the last day of posting…will miss the KKall and jmxxx’s bread pudding, The Lion, It’s Tricky..all da Tsaiko talent, Pride going do Hanalei Moon right? Somebody gotta post all da KKall action on da Tube yeah?..
Kazz…guud one! Wahine NEED their own locker room and bathroom on site. this past home stand between games, saw Iwata STANDING in line! Tired to get the ladies in front to cut her some slack and let her in but….somethings just cannot be given up..one of which is your place in the bathroom line!…
ooopsss…”Tried”…
ST, Do you have updated news on Liane Horiuchi? I haven’t heard anything in the past few days. Hopefully no news is good news. My prayers are with her and her family as it will be a long tenuous road back to good health.
Stephen Tsai –
You screwed me over! (please excuse my French) I poured my heart out in my final “farewell” post only to post it as the last post on yesterday’s blog unknowingly. I don’t know how to transfer it over to this current blog, so I humbly ask posters/lurkers to read my post which is the last one on yesterday’s blog. Aloha and Best Wishes!
Mrs. A-House
# Mrs. A-House:
June 1st, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Aloha Everybody!
I post today, after an extended absence from posting, with mixed emotions.
I’m part of the absolutely exhilarated host of UH fans who whooped it up in unbridled, unrestrained joy at the unbelievable success of the HPU softballers’ National Championship, the UH Wahine softballers’ two-in-a-row victories over #1 seeded Alabama, and the Baseball Bows’ long-overdue victory of nemesis Fresno.
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO ALL THESE FINE ATHLETES AND COACHES!! Keep on winning!!
I’m deeply saddened, however, at the impending demise of The Advertiser and the end of what has become such an important part of the lives of not only the A-House ohana, but for hundreds of others as well…not having Stephen Tsai’s Warrior Beat Blog to peruse daily.
I wanted to be sure I had the opportunity to express my thoughts as the final days of this beloved blog approach. I wish to express my sincere thanks to Stephen, Leila, Ferd, Mike and the countless other hard-working, dedicated, excellent professionals who made the Honolulu Advertiser Hawaii’s #1 newspaper…hands down.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every day of the existence of The Honolulu Advertiser and the Warrior Beat Blog. I sincerely wish all the employees good luck in whatever future endeavors they may wish to pursue.
LOL = Lots of love from Mrs. A-House
ST:
Is Ray playing center now?
Or did the QB line up behind the wrong guy? Hate when that happens!
Al, I remember James (Naismith) and the Giant Peach (Basket).
Mrs. A-House…I’m sure that this is not going to be ..”Aloha” for the Tsaiko’s. Where there is a will, there is a way. Tsaiko’s are a resourceful bunch and me thinks the IT guys will come up with something.
Anyhoo, it has been a pleasure for me and my patnah to have met your ohana. Day one when we met your ohana, we’ve felt so welcomed and comfortable all due to the aloha coming from your ohana. We hope to hook up with you guys soon..football right around the corner and t-gate again.

Question-Is there a way to synchronize the radio audio to the TV? I read or heard about this being discussed somewhere before. Maybe someone can call radio shack.
Ok- NorthShoreFan. I know where that is. But I know InnWaimea – and that is very close to my house.
Will stay in contact. You like borrow netbook?
troll.
If the radio is lagging, set the tv to dvr and then watch the broadcast on dvr playback in sync with the radio.
If the TV is lagging… SOL!

Er, Um, FORDY FIVE!!!
That’s all I gots to say!
*DPK hugs Mrs. A-House*
Would you believe 51?!
DPK – and in that other famous phrase by Maxwell Smart – Missed by that much!
NorthShoreFan,
Here’s an idea for 2011. Make the fans use porta-potties and the Wahine and visiting players and staff can use the actual bathrooms. Handicap fans may use the actual bathrooms as well.
I got NO problem with that!
howzit tsaiko county, got up this morning and did not know what to expect so as usual waiting to see what’s happening.
similar sentiments to the advertiser crew that is not picked up. I have enjoyed your comments, sensitivity, dedication and hard work all these past years. good luck and may God bless.
to the UH warrior and wahine teams may you continue to have success.
beeg congrats to the HPU sball women on capturing the D2 crown.
RE: #50 ~
DPK ((hugs)) Mrs. A-House. She crumples to the ground. He’s thinking that he will soon be a wanted Tsaiko!
Turn yourself in DPK! Don’t try to run! Come to the KKall on Saturday, and we can have the authorities there to make a smooth transition. No gun play, I promise.
Kazz…dey u go!….sounds like da plan!..gotta give coach cool da heads up…
OK, now I’m finally getting H-mail – at 2 different addresses!
LizK…will drop u a line…me thinks I got your gmail addy…stay tuned..
I’ll be there Kekoa, but if its just the same to you, I’d like some soft gun play at least…
Okay, would you believe water guns?!
Does UH charge to use the softball field? In the case of the high school tournament?
Me thinks ST keeping secrets.
Me thinks ST keeping secrets.
Really labrat?
Really labrat?
Terrific field in place for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic!
Good news about R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane in the Sacramento UFL team!
Duffer,
UH does charge for use of their facilities.
Where the $$$ goes is another question.
Kazz
Never been to the softball field, but the Wahine should have locker rooms. Afterall they did this year… they deserve it.
duffer,
I have a question for you and whitey…please check e-mail. 🙂
d1,
Still at work, will check if I ever leave my office
duffer,
no prob…thanks
Hey Everyone –
Anything new since I’ve been gone? Glad to see this site is still up.
Sorry I won’t be coming out there this month. JJ’s tournament was moved from Hilo to Maui (Plantation course), but it was father’s day weekend and I wanted to be with my dad. Then, he tells me “Don’t worry about coming up on father’s day.” Then I realized his 75th birthday is a week later. My, how time flies.
I met Rob Fukuzaki last month at a country club, and will be participating in his charity tournament next month here in L.A. His voice is even deeper and more pure in person. A good guy!
Best to all of you. I promise to not be a stranger.
Wow, WarriorMojo and Rich2176 in one day!
…feels like “old Home” Week 😉
…..speaking of, where’s homey?
Happy birthday to Leon Wright-Jackson and the Hawaii’s jazzman, Jimmy Borges!
I will post this one more time, anyone want to have a cc to watch the game this Thursday? Or will everyone stay home to watch?
Pomai,
working
Hi everyone.
Leon’s birthday? Well Happy Birthday… wonder what he’s been up to?
Troll,
Thanks for the info on who the announcers will be. The Missouri vs
Wahines game, we get to listen to Michele Smith again. Hope the
announcers do their homework on the Wahines.
Pomai,
Ill be at work. So far being at the office while a game is happening is something I’ve been used to during this offseason.
Duffer,
The Wahine softball stadium is something to behold.
Its a glorified borderline well funded high school facility. There is an airconditioned clubhouse built into the stadium courtesy of volunteer coach Dickie Titcomb’s construction company.
But if you ever come, you can see for yourself the lack of space or infrastructure for a fully functional locker room. It can be done but wil come at a big price.
Personally, the immediate needs are:
-adequate lighting for night games
-renovated press box
-padding installed on wall behind home plate and a padded fence in the outfield
-a more secured batting cage to prevent more vandalism
-at the minimum, a seperate bathroom/washroom for both the Wahine and visiting teams.
-better sound system
-more handicap access to the bleachers.
i didn’t write this list and no i’m not on it.

ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,
The other night I wrote an Email to Coach Murphy to thank him and his team for the hospitality and graciousness accorded the Wahine Softball Team. I also asked him to pass on to Kelsi Dunne how impressed we fans were with her commanding performance and how the regional experience will be an impetus for the Wahine in their quest for the WCWS title.
He wrote back thanking me for the nice note and that his team was heartbroken with the loss. But he did say that these are things that happen in sports where there are wins and losses. He stated, “Good luck to your team in the WCWS”.
ncaa.com/sports/w-softbl
Has articles of the 8 teams in the WCWS. Nice article on UH.
Also general info on Missouri.
FINALLY…HD
Annoddah Dave
“Shaka” to you, brah! That was an awesome thing you did. I hope that Shannon’s getting better health news.
Chawan.. . you sound disappointed that you’re not on the list.
and gunfunnit if Boise isn’t ranked again… but admittedly well-deserved…
Couldn’t find much info on Kristin Nottelmann.
Pomai…working on the boat…sorry
Kristin Nottelmann has been a work in progress during the season. She
has improved over the season. These stats are during the tournament.
She has pitched 1 no-hitter during the season.
Tournament stats:
IP———-31
K———-22
BB———5
ERA——0.87
H———-25 (2 doubles, 1 Hr)
Those stats doesn’t tell us about her pitching. Is she a drop ball pitcher?
Does she throw a great riser? Found more info.
Opponents batting ave. .212
Line drive outs————-6
Fly outs———————-13
Pop outs——————–13
Ground outs—————-36
By this, she is probable a drop ball pitcher.
We shall find out if these stats hold water on Thurs.
NOPE. Thursday is a NEW day with NEW stakes and a NEW opponent. 😎
Pomai,
I’m going to be at home, eating breakfast & recording the game.
Just a little observation about Kristin Nottelmann from watching what I had recorded: she shows very little emotion while pitching. She’s very calm on the mound.
Does anyone know what the immediate plans are for the blog? It would be such a shame if there were no more postings of the community of bloggers here.
Annoddah Dave,
That was thoughtful of you to send an email to Coach Murphy re: the hospitality shown the Wahine. Your kudos to Kelsi Dunne was also very true. Thank you for doing that!
<mrs. ahouse
here, i’ll do it for you.
It should be very interesting on the NCAA announcement coming on Friday regarding USC – will see how “heavy” they come down on the mighty Trojans for their football and basketball misdeeds.
Steve M. i think i’ll drop by on Saturday if there is still room. still cannot tell for sure but i really want to meet the tsaikos maybe for the last time.
does the Princess still have a job? i hope so. she’s one of the bright young “stars.”
Our ENTIRE batting order does that too. 😎
Lingle will be in Asia this month.
Looks like no bandwagoning trip to Oklahoma City for her. 😆
When I saw the clip of the 2010 NCAA Division II National Champions, the HPU softball team, being greeted at HNL today, this feeling just came over me.
I REALLY WANT NA WAHINE TO PLAY THEM THIS FALL!!!!
Is that wrong?
Sorry, one last thing from Sunday’s game:
And, when you hit that HR, dear Ms. Morgan, it wasn’t a lucky hit? 😈
Somebody teach this girl some class!
testing, testing… uno, dos, tres
i scared everyone away?
hi d1!
As heavy as a feather.
Unfortunately Linfield was unsuccessful in their run for the D3 baseball title falling in the penultimate contest to eventual runner-up SUNY-Cortland earlier today.
Duffer,
I’m always a day behind in reading the WB, so your request may have already been answered.
You can borrow your album from the library and burn yourself a copy.

D1,
Linfield was amongst the BEST there, so… as Al would say: “nuff said”. 😎
Jack In The Box (A CORPORATE SPONSOR OF UH ATHLETICS 😉 ) has three items for $3.33.
I’m hungry for some egg rolls and onion rings.
Be back… Well maybe not… It’s a “school” night. 🙁
#112 check out Jelly’s. they have older used cds.
Happy Birthday Scott Morifuji !!!
whew..almost came “belated”. 🙂
…Scott is the Tech guy behind the blog, so to speak.
BTW…since we had a couple of long lost Tsaiko’s pop up…has anybody heard from BigHilo?…need to send out a search party?
d1,
Sorry to hear Linfield didn’t make it to the top of the D III. There’s always next year… Where was it played?
jm####,
Charlotte Morgan went to HS & played softball with MeeGee. Perhaps MeeGee will say something, or perhaps not. It’s a rough fall off a high horse…
Night all!!!
Hmm. Where have my posts gone?
Sorry to hear about Linfield, D!
Well, happy to hear ST a couple more sports staff were retained. Godspeed and good luck to those moving on to bigger and better things.
Kazz – you need to take a look at HB 2200 CD1 which is now sitting on the Governor’s desk. It contains the following in the CIP section:
whoops!!! Should have taken off the blockquote in the last two paragraphs
There’s one other item needed not on your list – upgrades to the concession stand area so that a wider variety of foods can be purchased
To that end, I am willing to raise additional funds from the private sector – not just Tsai-kos – to make sure that the rest of the items are included in the upgrades.
The girls at Alabama fought hard – just as our girls fought hard. The ‘Bama girls have nothing to be ashamed of.
I don’t see any reason why they should fall on their swords (Roman style) or commit hariikiri. Nor, if we had lost, would we have had anything to be a shame for. Nor is there any reason why they should be forced to say that Hawaii is a better team.
We won – we beat number 1 seed. We beat them twice in a row. We shown them that we are a great team and on this day, the better one.
Lucky hit? Maybe. A hit to remember? Definitely. And many a time a little luck is better than no luck at all.
If skill was the determinate factor, we would be battling 100%
I’d rather be lucky and win than skillful and lose.
If they are upset by ill fortune – tough – we are in Oklahoma City and they are staying home. Rejoice in that!
W-Doc,
I think I might have missed it last time you posted the information, but I wasn’t aware that the $1.7 million requested did include locker rooms.
I think of those items the REAL necessary items are the field lighting and locker rooms, if only a part of the $1.7 million were approved I think that the roof over the 1st and 3rd base sides can wait. A lot of softball stadiums don’t have roofs uncompassing all the seats.
To me, things such as the lighting and locker rooms DIRECTLY effect the athletes on the field and that is the MOST important thing.
Sodexo (sp) runs the softball stadium concession, they offer a limited bill of fare, why, small crowds, for them to offer a wider variety of food, snacks, drinks, etc, you got to have the customer base. Once the food and snacks are prepared, if they are not sold, the concessionaire losses revenue. I’m sure they can increase the variety of non perishables but items that spoil or lose its freshness in a week won’t be offered in a wide variety.
Wahine Video Blog Update:
Katie Grimes and Amanda Taualii report that:
-It was a “long” day that had a lot of cardio in the sun and on the field.
-They had lunch hosted at the residence of Samantha Ricketts. It was their first real “home-cooked” meal in 3 weeks.
-They had to play dress up (cowgirl) for festivites for all World Series participants at some sort of festival/fair thing.
-Tomorrow (06/02/2010) will be another practice day with ESPN interviews being conducted first thing in the morning.
They both looked tired.
Forgot to mention that the practice they had, Katie Grimes seemed to emphasize infield defensive drills.
and “boom” goes the dynamite.
[…] The Warrior Beat| UH football, University of Hawaii athletics … […]
We’re moving on up, UH finished 6th this year in the WAC Commissioners Cup out of nine schools. UH finished 7th in ’08-’09. Someday Donovan will head a UHAD that wins the Cup, it’s never been done before in UH history, its highest finish was 3rd.
To win WAC titles we’ve got to have coaches who can recruit, coach and they must have the support of upper and lower campus. But JD can not reward mediocrity, any coach with career wins in the mid to low 50 per centile won’t bring home WAC titles too often or field a team that the NCAA will invite as an at large team.
Since UH will continue as a D1 program fielding 15 teams, men and women, and pay coaches, support staff and the NCAA alloted scholarships like every other team, why not set goals of winning the WAC titles in every sport every year. May not happen but you got to believe that Na Wahine VB shouldn’t be the only sport that we win championships in on a consistent basis.
I’m starting small, I’m stating WAC titles, so don’t jump in with BCS teams and their high end budgets. If we win WAC titles, we get invited to the NCAA regional, we don’t have to hope for an at large bid but a good record can at times improve our chances for an at large invitation.
The tabloid interviewed Capuano.
Unlike Whitey, I’m not continueing.
The Pac-10 is looking for TV market size, football success, and men’s basketball success…if they do not get Texas, they may not expand at all.
It is interesting that Ferd indicates that the WAC may have already contacted SDSU and UNLV just in case the MWC loses a lot of teams and is ripe for poaching…
[…] The Warrior Beat| UH football, University of Hawaii athletics … […]
Congrats to J-Rod and the Rainbow Wahine, what a win!
I believe being Canadian is a nationality, and not a race–much like being American is a nationality and not a race.
QB that planned to transfer to UH (he is close to Colt) was stabbed.
If the formula the PAC10 gives for admittance to the conference, then I don’t think any school west of Texas would qualify…..in fact, I don’t think half the present PAC10 schools would qualify if they weren’t already in the present conference.
mctruck,
Yes, several Pac-10 schools (probably starting with Washington State) would be kicked out if they wanted to maximize money. However, the Pac-10 requires *unanimous* approval to add or kick out a school, so no school can be kicked out of the Pac-10 unless they agree to it!
Mctruck,
PAC 10 needs to change their formula as the landscape changes or
get left behind. Look what is happening to the BIG EAST. With all the
poaching that may occur, BIG EAST may not have a football
conference. They taught all they need is a great basketball conference
and they can remain a BCS conference.
When the new contract is established, the other BCS conference may
have MWC for football only and BIG EAST for basketball only, with the
minor sports not part of the BCS. This way the small amount of revenue
generated from TV, will be split between 5 conference instead of 6. It is
all about the $$$$$, no sympathy.

I’m happy I’ve came across your web site, some captivating points you have got here and futhermore a concise writing personality.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important(christian louboutin shoes, christian louboutin,cl shoes,Christian Louboutin Sandals,Christian Louboutin Boots,Christian Louboutin Pumps,Christian Louboutin Wedges, herve leger dress, christian louboutin Boots).

ohhh nice info
Of course, what a great site and informative posts, I will add backlink – bookmark this site? Regards,
Super-Duper site! I am loving it!! Will come back again – taking you feeds also, Thanks.
I am having problem with the first link. It gives a 404 error?
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor(christian louboutin shoes, christian louboutin,cl shoes,Christian Louboutin Sandals,Christian Louboutin Boots,Christian Louboutin Pumps,Christian Louboutin Wedges, herve leger dress, christian louboutin Boots).

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps.
