Colt signs, then meets with heart patient
Colt Brennan signed a four-year, $1.8-million contract with the Washington Redskins, then immediately paid it forward with a good deed.
“It feels great to sign,” Brennan said.
Soon after, Brennan made the 45-minute drive to Washington D.C., where he had lunch with Joshua Miyazawa and his family.
Miyazawa is a 5-year-old boy from Hawai‘i who underwent heart surgery. His favorite player is Brennan. Miyazawa is in D.C. to play in a tee-ball game on the White House lawn.
“The lunch was awesome,” Brennan said. “The food was good, and I got to spend time with (Joshua). We were there for three hours. He looks great. He showed me his scar. They’re a fun family. It was a great experience. It was a privilege for me to meet him. It was awesome to hear his story.”
Brennan said he signed a standard four-year contract. He will receive a signing bonus of $96,800, which is in the ballpark for a sixth-round selection. But he has been assured the contract will be subject to renegotiation if he performs well for the Redskins.
“I’m happy to be healthy and ready to play,” said Brennan, who has been medically cleared to participate in all drills during training camp, which opens this weekend. Brennan underwent hip surgery in May.

Happy birthday to offensive lineman Andrew Faaumu, who is showing his strength and agility during unsupervised workouts:

Happy 23rd birthday to an original Tsai-ko — Allie Tsai.
Here’s the birthday girl (second from right) with some recent millionaire at the end of last season’s UH-San Jose State game. Apparently, she knew a reporter who sneaked her and some friends into the press tent.
1st
Good going Colt! Once again making us proud!!
way to go, Colt!
ST, in what way did Colt pay it forward? The money, I mean.
Just a reminder:

great stuff. the kid just keeps on getting better. he will forever be emblazoned in the historical annals of hawaii sports.
colt would stay.
In the good deed, Gigi.
Things you can’t put a pricetag on.
gigi….for some time is money.
paying it forward is not only measured in dollars and sense. how about heart?
you get the picture right?
Aiyah I tell you…some peeps
OK, now I understand. Thanks.
Aunty Ronnie – I’ll be there, need to bring anything or what? Couldn’t snag too much from the Bash didn’t want to be greedy. Anyway, see you there…
Good luck Colt!
ST, is there any word on the contract renewals of the UH coaches or Donovan?
Does anyone know what has happened to Rainbow Cliff? Sounds like it’s more serious than the common cold. Will his condition affect his plans to CC and golf with Tsaikos next month?
There’s also payback, which is what Ronnie is doing by making us feel envious by having a LoCal party we can’t attend.
Morning Gang, catching up from earlier and yesterdays post…
Good news for bruddah Colt…funny reading the comments on the ESPN article, little do they know I tell you. Oh well, in a year or two when he unseats Campbell, they’ll stop talking “unko” and take notice what we all have been spoiled with over the years…
#341 – Aunty Liz – Me back out on a date with Paula, yeah right, what was he thinking
#344 – lakerj32 – Hmm…I think Artest would be a better fit in LA, but Odom in Sac dunno. Don’t care for the Kings though, never did.
K time to run errands catch you guys later…
ST – tell daughter Happy Birthday!
Rich2176 says RainbowCliff has been busy working on that playground they’re building.
st….when should we hear about the rest of the recruits and their arrival?
are they all still on target to get here soon?
any particulars on j. taylor and blount?
Al:
They won’t be arriving until the start of training camp.
al-
Need to be careful that spelling is correct when using words like “annals” in blogs. 🙂
hubby wanted to know where ST, et al., are going to jet ski today.
I told him, “In the ocean, of course.”

Hmmm… I wonder if Rich2176 can get Paula to show up… 👿
Hau’oli La Hanau, Allie!
Happy Birthday Allie!
ok, that wasn’t the icon I wanted… I just wanted one that talked about “payback” 😉
kevin…..get your head out of your annals.
mwahahahaha.
Happy Birthday Allie! I hope you have a great day!
well, gigi….as whitey would sing…it could be on the “snows of mauna kea”.
I guess I’ll cut-and-paste that, so I’ll have annal retention.

ronnie….if you get rich to spring paula….put me on the list too!
Uh, oh, I’ve unleashed the evil side of Ronnie.
I guess we now have Evil Triplets on the blog.
no wonder you two are married, you ask the same type of questions and receive the same wise arse answers
haha, stretch, I should have clarified, “in the PACIFIC ocean.”
Congratulations Colt! Mahalo for being a class act.
Happy Birthday Allie!
Now that it has been a couple of days, has anyone started planning next year’s Blog Bash yet? 😀
There was a UH basketball player in the early 1980s. The team was on flight to California. The plane shook. The player said: “Man, the Atlantic is rocky.”
*** TSAIKO GLASSWARE ***
For those who are still interested in getting their Tsaiko glassware, we have the following inventory available after the party.
3 ea 16oz beer/water cups
15 each 12.5oz wine/water glass
There is interest in beer mugs and it appears more people want the bigger 34oz mug. Since we have to purchase them in sets of 12, more 34oz beer mugs can be made. I will not make more of the 25oz mugs unless I can get 12 orders.
For those on the mainland or outerislands, if you want to to order, I will add on the postage to the cost of the glasses.
Email me at tsaikoparty at yahoo and I will put together a list of what needs to me made. Attached is the pictures of glasses.
happy birthday allie!
was nice meeting you on thursday. you guys make your poppa very proud.
are you still raggin on the dad about his crying?
Al:
I had a cold. Yeah, that’s it. I had a cold.
stretch….another reason is that they don’t mingle at parties.
too afraid of losing their seats.
gee….what kind of cold?
i usually cough when sick.
you cry?
hmmmm. it would have been more convincing if you said you were just helping the kitchen chop onions.
stretch, hubby was tempted to buy the largest size beer mugs, but I told him they wouldn’t fit in the dishwasher. We are happy with the glassware we bought, though.
are you teaching today/???
Al, my idea of mingling is to take pictures. I met a lot of newbies that way.
Good Morning, Hawai’i!
Only 46 days, 21 hours, and 42 mins til kick off!
Happy Birthday Allie Tsai.
A belated happy birthday to Myki.
Hi Merv!
Have you had a chance to check out Liz’s pictures and videos from the Blog Bash? If you are planning a Hawaiian vacation anytime next year, you may want to plan it for the next Blog Bash…
Colt is a class act and is well thought of in these parts.
Thanks again to all for the many birthday wishes received. This Tsai-ko family is just awesome!! You all have a great day!!
Happy birthday to Allie. May you share many more with your loved ones.
I will check them out. I will make a trip out to the Islands and coordinating with the Blog Bash would be a great time to do it. I’ll keep my eye out for an airfare special to come along.
Happy 23rd Allie! Hope you enjoyed the chocolates.
al,
What’s your schedule this week?
Good going Colt. Happy Birthday Allie. A belated Happy Birthday to Myki (sorry, computer has been acting up). And a good morning to all the Tsaikos out there.
Happy 23rd to Myki1 too! 🙂
ST…A cold?? I don’t know, you seemed fine when you came on stage. Then, all of a sudden, the floodgates opened. Like al said, maybe you should have said you were chopping onions in the back…..MWAHAHAHAHAAH
Just kidding, WE LOVE YOU MAN!!!!
duffer…myki is 23?? I thought she just turned 21…. 🙂
duffer ….busy on different island.
i’ll email yah about it.
Aloha Tsaikos,
Congrats to Colt. Hope he does well for the Redskins this year. For those of you who had Birthdays sorry I don’t know you all that well. However, Happy Birthday to you guys.
Great news on Colt. Good luck in camp.
Happy birthday Allie. 🙂
Allie: Happy Birthday!
Hooray for Colt!
Merv:
Why wait for the Blog Bash…whenever you can make it, guaranteed there’ll be a party planned! Hope you & your boys are well!
Congrats to Colt!
…and way to go afterwards.
Stretch,
Should that be “wise annal” haha
Happy birthday Allie Tsai! I wish I was 23 again! Or, at least I wish I could still do the things I could when I was 23. Like run fast without passing out.
You tell me that you can’t wash ONE mug by hand?? Throw it in the washing machine with all your clothes.
Thanks Midori,
We are doing well. Our gang will make a trip to Gatlinburg, TN for a family gathering this weekend. Should be big fun in the Great Smokies.
When I get to Hawai’i I’m sure there will be a party and lots of fud!
By the way, at our reunion on July 4th we cooked two hogs over a pit and my cousin blew a conch shell to call us to gather for the meal. It was a great feast with 270 cousins, aunts and uncles in attendance.
Happy Birthday Allie!
Great news about Colt’s contract being done and it appears that Washington was fair with the deal. It is not surprising that Colt was generous with his time once again…such a great guy!
Analysis of Washington’s QBs of course includes Colt.
Analysis of Colt’s competition for the #3 QB spot. Note that Hollenbach was expected to be Colt’s main competition but he was cut soon right around the time Colt passed his physical.
Article about Favre brings up Colt.
Hiya Merv!
No wonder we get along so well- you guys are just southeast coast Hawaiians! 2 hogs (we callem pigs) and 270 family members – sounds really familiar! We just don’t have as many cee-gars afterwards 😆
COLT WILL SHOW
Yeah, Baby.
Hauoli Lahanau Allie!
Be safe and have dfun, ST!
HIHO!
Analysis of which conference has the best QBs has the WAC above the ACC, MWC, C-USA, and Sun Belt.
Sixty eight? Sixty nine?
Waddever, good morning all! 🙂
That Colt, what a great guy. We were so blessed by him in so many ways, and he continues to do us proud.
Prayers for Brother Rainbow Cliff. No finer gentleman have we ever had here on the blog. He is a walking talking gift from the Lord, may he be restored to full and vigorous health by our heavenly Father.
Feature on Fresno State.
Happy Birfday, Allie!
This writer for the main Oklahoma paper sure doesn’t like message boards. This goes even beyond HF’s “nameless, faceless” comment that seemed to be directed towards the Tsaikos.
Garret,
Thanks for the links regarding our Colt. I have no problems saying here and now that barring serious injury, Colt will be star in the NFL within a couple of years. If he is with a Coach like Zorn, his pure QB skill sets will set him apart from the competition.
SMU pushed their home game against Texas Tech from 2009 to 2013 (I think that was the year they had an opening in their schedule). They still play at Texas Tech this year and in 2010. The funny thing is that they *had* to drop one of their scheduled games for 2009 because they had 5 nonconference games scheduled…UH had a problem under HF of not getting enough games scheduled, SMU had a problem of having too many games scheduled! They still have a good schedule with Navy, TCU, Missouri, and the opener against a D-IAA team.
This means that Texas Tech has an opening in 2009! And I know that UH has an opening for 2009…I would love to see Mack’s D against Texas Tech’s offense!
Garret,
We should invite the guy to look at us. Of course, we’re different than most sports blogs. We Tsai-ko!
DPK…What’s up bro?
Stretch – LMAO. Might not have room in da washer with all the muumuu in there…. 😉
gigi – just get the big mug. No need wash if only used for beer. MWAHAHAHAHA
DPK,
Liz and other already posted the big news and ST put the important info at the top of the blog. I just wanted to post some of the commentary about Colt. I agree that Colt is in a good position and hope that he gets time to adjust to the NFL so that *when* (not if) he gets a chance to play late this season or next season he will be ready to show what he can do.
His current contract will dwarfed by his next contract when he earns the starting spot. Only the signing bonus is guaranteed on his contract, but I’m glad to read ST’s note about how Washington said they would renegotiate if he plays well…since they could try to wait until his final contract year to renegotiate otherwise.
ST, you expecting any commitments this week from the UH camps?
jm2375,
LOL!
I am slowly adding more photos to the Blog Party web page. Lots more to go. There were a lot cameras out that night, so if anyone has a group photo they would like posted, please email it to me at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com
Please enclose the original file. I will adjust it as needed so it is best to have all the initial pixels in the photo. Also, I often replace photos of mine when I run across one with a better exposure, angle, and subject composition. Example: anyone have a better pix of Jason with Liz singing the pule?
The Blog Party 4 page is under construction at:

gigi- Beck’s fan – thought you’d get a kick out of this survey:
Would you stop drinking Budweiser if a Belgian company owned it?
Yes 20% 34217
No 25% 42949
I don’t drink Budweiser 55% 92551
Total Votes: 169717
Happy Birthday Allie, have a fun time today.
Garrett,
So InBev gonna sell off the amusement parks? No more free beer? 🙁
haha Liz. I was so upset with myself when I read that InBev, the parent company of Beck’s, is located in BELGIUM, cause in my new book as well as blog, I stated that Beck’s is brewed in GERMANY.
I scolded hubby for not catching this error.
HOWEVER, I did the smart thing. I checked the box. It clearly states that Beck’s is imported from GERMANY.
What a relief! I am not a dummy, after all.
jm2375,
It will take a *long* time to close a sale, since Seaworld is worth so much money (they have a bunch of locations). But after it is sold then I would guess that the free beer will be gone…my father-in-law loved hanging out there!
Or maybe the sale of Seaworld will be quick because InBev needs to sell Seaworld off to be able to afford to buy Anheuser-Busch. The division with the Seaworld that will be sold or spun off is worth between $5 bil and $6 bil!
Thanks ST for being. BTW, I gave ST and Wena my blessing the night of the RR KC. He couldn’t have picked a better picture to display. Of course I’m talking about Faye! HI FAYE!
Thanks Tsaiko’s for being. Meeting many of you, thank you Duffer for the kind words, was one of the highlights of the night. Hearing the words of wisdom from the esteemed speakers, including the 3 stooges, was the other highlight.
To clarify koakane’s comment about being dropped off at Laie, it was Ka’ena Pt. I decided to walk through Yokohama’s, past Makaha, ran through Waianae and decided to go up Kolokole pass to bypass Nana’s and Kapolei.
Note to everyone, don’t piss off the designated driver because you never know where you are going to get dropped off!
Actually, I had a good time with my other family this past Friday and weekend.
Happy belated 20-something birthday to myki.
Happy 20-something birthday to Allie.
Ryan:
It would be something if that linebacker from Punahou committed …
I’m wondering about the impact of the InBev sale.
Bonnie Amemiya, Keith’s wife, is one of the top workers at Budweiser-Hawai‘i. She was the one who donated the beer to the party.
homey…I see that your DD dropped you off at the right place then…MWAHAHAHAHA
wow, ST, I wondered about the connection between Bud and the blog bash. Good to know Bonnie is a friend.
homey, I am reading between the lines — does Esme live in Mililani and dropped you off at her home so you could walk to yours?
haha
what a weird imagination!
What Big Bro neglected to mention was that he was the one who helped arrange for Colt to meet the Miyazawas today. Nice way for Colt to celebrate his new contract. He’s a class act and the Miyazawas are terrific people.
I’ll be spending the rest of the day wrapping my mind around the idea that I have a 23-year-old niece. Oy vey.
ST:
You think there is a chance he will sign with the Warriors?
As an uncle, your job is to spoil them rotten. At least that’s what I’m told.
Happy BDay to Allie and also to Freshman walkon OLine Andrew Faaumu
100, baybeeee!
101 baybeeeeee!
would that ever ST!!!!!
Hope today is not a “try hard” day.
Thanks for the head’s up on Andrew Faaumu.
Koauka, you remind me of bonar. Keep trying, though, cause bonar hit the target today.
Koauka,
I’ve tried spoiling Allie and Jodie, but their unspoilable. I’m still working on nephew Devon. I’ll have that boy on a hog one day, as soon as he’s done with his skateboarding and fire dancing…
James – Nothing against d1shima but my Thursday and Friday DD was the bomb!
gigi – I don’t know where she lives. All I know is that there was sand under my feet. Oh, and she left me a flashlight. Do you know how tiring it gets carrying that huge mug around!
Mike, one of these days you might even be a grand-uncle!
Time to start your own family?
Hey Mike! Good meeting you and congrats on your award!
Homey, that’s another good reason we decided not to buy the ultra-big beer mugs — too heavy and too much exertion to lift the beer to our lips and chug.
Woo for Colt!!!!
congrats to colt, from what i understand this contract is pending that he makes the tm and alot of the $ is paid in the last 2 yrs of the contract but colt is a smart cookie and i think he will keep working hard to get to where he wants to be in the redskins organization. CONGRATS COLT! i am a steeler fan but will now cheer for the skins as well..
on a different topic, i am kind of concerned for this yrs tm, that galdeira kid who got busted for DUI over the weekend is the same kid playing for UH this yr. i understand everybody makes mistakes, but we are fighting an uphill battle this upcoming season (loss of a coach & senior superstars) with a tougher schedule. first graunke cant play w/ the tm due to academics, and then this DUI incident, what are these guys thinking. they better wake up cuz the season is right around the corner and this kind of crap is what leads to the kind of season that brings back memories of vonappen.
Late Good Morning Everyone:
Let us hope that the HA teckheads have straightened out the watevas that were plaguing the site late last night. Two things stood out for me – hitting the Submit Comment button with a post concerning the income tax check-off suggestion only to have it sent out to a black hole somewhere near the constellation Leo; and, then a few minutes later watching the Blue Screen Of Death show up followed by print about the size of the spy dots used in WWII.
I wrote two additional posts off-line and will be adding them later on today. The third one is still being drafted.
Happy Birthdays to Myki and Allie and anyone else born around this time.
Congratulations to Colt in signing a contract – $450,000 a year is nothing to sneer at. Will the Redskins games be carried here on a regular basis? I know some sports bars have a subscription to the NFL channel, but it seems that each one tracks a particular team over the season.
TOM MUI: Re the income tax check-off legislation – as stated in the testimony submitted at the hearing,
In researching this, the initial time to set up the additional check-off system would take less than a day. Payouts are generally done on a quarterly basis, but even that is negotiable.
Cost is not a major factor – the challenge will be in getting the word out to the taxpayers about the option.
Finally, what is meant by a “pre-set” menu on July 30? Is this like the standard plate service at organizational banquets? Or is it “family style” like meals at tables for 6 to eight people served at many Chinese restaurants or at Buca di Beppoin the Ward Center Complex? Or is it a buffet lline – either with a special menu set by the event planner or one served to all customers on the same day?
Will be back later – work has raised its ugly head!
Glad to hear that Colt signed. It was only a matter of time, once he passed his physical.
Here are a couple of links. First, an Oregon football player drowned. While not a hero like Shannon Smith, it still reminded me of him.
A football analysis blog talked about pass protection schemes, particularly noting the Sugar Bowl and Super Bowl.
Sorry Al,
I had to do a double take on your #6 post.
I thought you were comparing Colt to “animals” in Hawaii sports history.
Happy B-Day to one of da original and exclusive Tsaikos, Allie.
I wish I was 23 again 🙁 .
Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday Allie!
When my son was born, he was 8lbs but dwarfed by this almost 11lb baby. I should have gotten his name because it would be neat to see if he becomes a football stud. BTW, Dan Kelly was also an 11 pound baby and he was born at home…
If Allie was born in 1988 and in Kihei, Maui, she could have been nursery-mates with Andrew 🙂
There’s a Galdeira playing for UH this year?
Interesting, Jason. Do we have such an athlete at UH, ST?
Congrats, Mike -as big bro says- you are da BEST writer at the HA!

___________________________________________________________
Dang! Your DD realy messed up my instructions. I explicitly stated that you were to be beaten and robbed and THEN dropped off at Kaena Point! 😆 Jus kiddin lil friend, glad to see you in the land of the living. 🙂 Your picture with Faye makes her look even MORE beautiful. 😆
Thanks, Homey. Great to finally meet you.
Ah, nothing like blowing tea through your nose to start the day. Thanks, Gigi. Grand-uncle, my patootie!
BigWave – You have a son born in 1988? 😆
I think Guyes Galdeira was on last year’s team, but was cut. He’s not on this year’s team, nor is he enrolled in school.
BigWave96744 – my last 2 sons were 10lb8oz and 10lb4oz. They are tall saplings. I weigh more than they do…
But SOMEONE will step up to shut down. No doubt about it. Coach Mack will attract the talent and develop it.
He seen it- he going to get it…
HIHO
Willie!
Thanks, Liz. But, just for context, Stephen also thinks Paula Abdul is the greatest living entertainer in the world. At best, I’m the ninth or tenth best writer … in Sports.
DPK – You do know that wasn’t me in the picture with Faye. That was Hawaiian kiko.
What, Mike? #9 or #10 in the WORLD??? or just Hawaii?
Homey,
No Andrew Faaumu was born in 1988…
I hope there is not a BigWaveJr that was born in 1988, 89, 90, etc..
Otherwise I’ll be known as BigShawnKempWave
I thought Tom Petty was the greatest living entertainer in the world? He did put on a stellar performance this past Super Bowl. 😆
If you look at the photo of Colt/Alllie, you’ll notice the back of the head of A-House’s favorite person.
It used to be so annoying when that guy and CG would show up at post-game news conferences. JJ used to tell me to meet him in the coaches’ locker room for interviews.
I took a pic of Hawaiian kiko. He doesn’t resemble homey.
Allie’s birthday should have been yesterday. But Wena was in labor for 26 hours.
Hey BigWave – Awesome meeting you too! Had some ankle snappers at Nimitz Beach this past weekend with an occasional 3′ set. Good to get back in the water. Sternum hurts right now.
Sonny Turner was a great showman.
Best show I’ve seen in person was Liza Minelli at the Concert Hall. THE BEST so far.
Faye Wai thought she was safe because she posed with Homey.
Then, magically, their photo appeared on the blog.
ST – 26 hours! My wife would say that sounds oh so familiar! My neck got sore from watching the tv on the ceiling.
The best concert I ever attended was the Isley Brothers. Ernie Isley played the guitar with his teeth during one song. They had a couple of encores, but the crowd wanted more. They ended up playing “Take Me to the Next Phase” with the Blaisdell house lights on.
ST and homey, I hope you were better coaches in the labor room than hubby was. He was paralyzed with fear.
Homey:
LOL.
What’s with hospital TVs? And can they at least get a remote with number buttons? I hate that you have to go all around the dial for a show. And if you miss it, around the dial again.
Oh, I forgot about Kinda Shy. Like I was telling Duffer and Whitey, only in Hawaii do we know the same people!
Where was I…oh yeah, Kinda Shy, if you are lurking, it was great meeting you too! Tell Sistah S, GO MAURADERS!
My house painter has been listening to a John Denver CD all morning. I swear if I hear Rocky Mountain again, I’ll …
gigi – Assisting the wife when she was giving birth was one of the best moments of my life. It was so good, I assisted 2 more times!
ST – True story. Son born in 1989…Got to the hospital, turned on the TV and UH is playing BYU. Wife is dilated and ready to go. Needless to say, missed most of the game.
Gigi:
First of all, Lamaze does not work.
Second, it was the mid-season Fantasy Baseball supplemental draft.
Third, Lamaze does not work.
That’s also rule four and five.
Congrats Mike. Looks like the Tsai brothers have cornered the writin’ market round here. The Tstereo Tsais tstrike again!
gigi – “ROCKY MOUNTAIN”
The Lamaze movies we saw made it seem so easy. Not easy to coach a woman when she is in searing pain.
Tom Petty was AWESOME in this year’s Super Bowl.
I think it was refreshing to see ONE performer as opposed to a mix mash of “artists” that try to perform one messed-up collaboration.
Tom Petty made past performances during the halftime show look like desperate attempts by the NFL to show off how much money they can blow for 20 minutes.
BigWaveWifey gave me these instructions, “Don’t eat in the room, Do not sing, Do not whistle, Do not coach me, just ZIP IT”
Stephen,
Someone once said that Andrew Faaumu’s brother played for Hawaii.
What is his bro’s name, what position did he play, and what season?
Bigwave:
Not sure of his brother. I’ll ask the next time I see him.
Ray Hisatake is serving as Andrew’s mentor.
Just talked to Colt. He had a great time at lunch today.
Gigi,
For you “Rocky Mountain High” is bothersome, for me, the housepainters were blasting “Masese” (Kapena).
Good day Tsaikos: belated bday wishes to myki….not 😀 First link is followup to picture of the person who never wins. Second link is to consolidated gallery of Tsaiko and UH sports which many of you might not have seen before–sjmacro

I would have been thoughtful enough to leave you with BATTERIES for the flashlight as well….
Stephen, did Colt say anything about his hip?
You sure you folks not confusing ’em with Ta’ase Faumui?
Good afternoon TSAIKOs and CybeerLurkers……..just lurking..!!!!!
This thing on….?
Mike,
Sometime next month I’m gonna have to deal with the idea of having a son who’s 25! But once I do…La’chaim!
For gigi,
What else?

Wow, I can post from the mainland. Never worked last year. Thank you for the software update! All of that effort just for me!
Gotta find some grub now, some vittles. I hope Colt has a driver because this area is a maze.
Do I have “most favored” status with the Tekkies?
d1shima,
darn I always was a hip man 🙂
D1, yeah, that would be awesome, Let’s set it up!
Mojo,
if you try using a sign, it’s “victuals”

Mojo,
OK.
You get the invite to play t-ball at the White House then leave the rest to me!
Hawaiian Kiko,
You know I Remember seen you play somewhere before but I can’t put my hand on it… Maybe we did the same show some where…
Mojo,
I will always know you as the “UGA Hammer”… or just the “Hammer” for short. Should of placed that on the Tsaiko Culture table…
sjmacro,
can you email me chawan_cut at yahoo.com ??
thanks!
HawaiianKiko,
At some point I’m gonna have to introduce you to the new century….
Happy Birthday Allie & Myki.
I didn’t say it earlier, but to everyone who worked the blog bash: Great job! Everyone did fantastic. Meg and I really enjoyed it and meeting our fellow Tsaikos. ST: Good to see how much your family means to you.
Garret,
Thanks for the updates on Colt. It’s great to hear the latest.
Mojo,
Fo’ you NauStahtPaWahAuWah.
Fo’ me NauPauLunChauWah.
d1shima – she left me a “crank” flashlight. Every 10 minutes you would have to re-crank the flashlight. So when I was cranking my body would turn. Found out I was walking in circles.
He said the hip is fine. The specialist in Denver cleared him last Tuesday.
Afternoon Tsaikos!
I’m helping ST keep track of Tsaiko Birthdays…so leave a note on the blog & I’ll make sure to add it to our list.
Feb is the only month w/no Tsaiko Birthdays.
Hey…Bigwave…I bet wifey would have loved it if you zipped it prior to her getting pregnant too…MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA just kidding my friend.
Checking in…
ICYUL8 – Ho “my son”, I was hoping you’d “pop the cherry”?…wat is dat?? Don’t let your bro hog the posts now…you both make a darn funny comedy team…like a vaudeville comedy act. Midori7 says your “act” includes awesome singing voices, too. Some lucky guyz have it all!!
Allie Tsai – HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You are so lucky to have the right contacts. Curious to know where you keep your precious picture with my “odda son” Colt. If your “insider reporter” can get you into the press tent, an autograph on your picture should be duck soup.
BG – A much belated mahalo for your moral support last Thursday night at the bash. You provided me with much needed confidence as I almost had a panic attack and passed out when Wreck asked me to “change my act”. You can’t ask a senior citizen to ad lib…but he did…and I survived. Love that song…”I Will Survive”!
Pauoa Boy – Hope you attend the next LoCal CC…hopefully, Ronnie has something for you. Your posts are so fun to read…keep them coming.
Rainbow Cliff – If you’re lurking out there, you are in my prayers that all good things in life will be restored to you, many, many times over. Will look forward to your post assuring us that all is well with you and the family.
Sweety – So sorry to hear about your missing earring. I, too, lost an earring, so I commiserate with you. Will pray that you find it…especially since it’s one of your favorites.
Homey – I’m so relieved that you were AWOL only because you were hiking home with your beer mug weighing you down. Just to be sure it’s really you posting, and not a wannabe…what part of your body did you permit me to touch at the end of the evening at last Thursday’s bash?? I’ll admit…I was amazed, impressed and humbled.
d1…you can add Rocky Mountain High to our playlist….MWAHAHAHAHAHA
note
Midori…I will be celebrating my 29th birthday next February… 🙂
Mrs. A-House – TMI about touching homey’s body…LOL
chawan..Hey, how was the lego thing this weekend. Sorry, didn’t get a chance to make it out there.
Mrs. A-House – You also touched James in the same place too! I think it’s called the pectoralis major. If you are under 18 it’s called the pectoralis minor.
Mrs. A-House…great job in your presentation at the bash on Thursday. You seemed so natural, I didn’t think you were nervous at all….. 🙂
Wow James! We are the same age!
Mrs. A-House – I would be impressed too. I mean, at homey’s age, to still have those kinds of……MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAA just kidding homes….or as DPK would say, lil’ buddy…. 🙂
Mrs. A-House did a presentation? Where was I? Not only that, I missed the Tsaiko All-Star singers!
homey – guess we’re the only 2 guys on here at the moment….how’s the night watch been?
Really You missed the Tsaiko All-Star Singers?!
Hey Me too!
Mrs. A-House touched what?!!? oh, oh, hmmm
Is it football season yet?
James – I’m thinking of retiring and doing something in the computer field.
Wreck – all I remember was walking past this table and women would yell “BOMB”.
You guys missed them…Man they were awesome…In fact, I heard them all night loong…..oh wait, my bad, that was koakane serenading koa mahu with his mel torme impersonation….MWAHAHAHAHHAHA Where is KK anyway???
Hey jojo! Missed ya on Thursday…or did you show up and I didn’t notice that too?
jojo- you woulda seen it if you wuz deah… missed you! 😆
homey – Wow, that’s a big switch from what you currently do….good luck….from what I hear on this blog, you’re awesome with computers…. 🙂
jojo – I also showed people my tattoo….. 😉
I think KK get finger cramp trying to manipulate his iphone.
I should say, strategically placed tattoo….and did you show up on Thursday?? Didn’t see you but with all the 5’1″ and 5’2″ people there I just might have missed seeing you…. 🙂 MWAHAHAHAAHAHA I’m just kidding, don’t get all habut…. 😉
Yup, James get one cute Betty Boop tattoo.
Homey, he showed you the Betty Boop Tattoo… So you never see all the carebears holding hands across his back did you?
Midori7 – Since February is a short month, I think we should honor Homey.
Okay…back to work….
Carebears? I swear he is more of a Teletubbie kinda guy.
James – your tattoo is on your front or back cleavage? Yah, you missed me because I’m not 60″
Hi Rich2176! Did ya se Pauoa Boy’s request re Paula? He promises to show up – and he’s a marine of his word!
Oh RICH, that was cold! 😆
jojo – LMAO…not cleavage….creesage….MWAHAHAHAHAHA
Re-High Expense Of Travel
I would bet that the athletic department is actively looking at ways of cutting their losses . Travel expenses for the last fiscal year was reported to be close to 2.9 million(Ferd’s article) total which includes the cost to the Sugar Bowl. With the rise in airline ticket prices, reported to be any where from 60% to 100% higher this year than last, expecting the travel budget to jump from 2.9 million to 4-5 million is something that can’t be avoided. Or is it? Would it be smarter for the UH athletic department to actively have the coaches of their respected teams to streamline their team’s traveling squads? I think so, for there isn’t any other choices if the teams want to continuing competing. Don’t be surprised if we hear an announcement to this effect soon. Maybe even starting with this football season, customarily seeing UH team traveling with 60-70 players, I wouldn’t be surprised if the traveling squads are slimmed down to 45-55 players. Even the athletic department has to look at all auxiliary travelers, including if there’s the need to take all the position coaches, strength coaches, athletic trainers, cheerleaders, mascots and (occasional band members) to the games on the mainland.
With the rising costs, with no end in sight, there has to be some concessions that the UH athletic teams have to make. And conversely the visiting WAC teams will be facing the same hardships. The days where we see a full complement of cheerleaders and mascots at the away games will be, I’m guessing, a thing of the past. And seeing the other team’s visiting cheerleaders and mascots coming here a thing of the past, too.But how about if we loaned them our athletic trainers, and people to fill in for their mascot and cheerleaders when they play here. And they do the same for us when we play at their school. That way we cut expenses they cut expenses…and maybe a few high school squads in the their respected cities around the WAC wouldn’t mind filling in for the other team’s cheerleaders and mascot. Just a thought. But, agreed, not the answer to solving the future of athletics at UH, and notably the uncertainty of what’s in store for collegiate athletics in general with the high cost of travel. This is where the UH President is suppose to step in ask for some additional concessions from the NCAA on behalf of the WAC and UH. Having the thirteenth game ( an added game for UH and teams traveling to Hawaii to gain additional revenue to offset traveling expenses) in football was a nice gesture from the NCAA, but now we need some more subsidies (for the UH Pres. it doesn’t hurt to ask). Even petitioning to see future rosters (in all sports), home and away, trimmed down would allow teams like UH an even playing field.
Visualizing any of these changes are hard to realize. But being in survival mode some of these changes are necessary if we’re to exist in competing at the collegiate level…at least that’s what I think. Reading people’s body language, notably JD, and how he realizes that the economy might take it’s toll on season attendance, I can see the wheels spinning in his head to see what he could possibly do to mitigate the losses. And eventual hardships (and probable) for UH teams traveling to the mainland….and I feel he’s doing his best under these circumstances.
btw- I just glanced at the comments under the HA breaking news about Colt. Now I know what Jim Leahey was talking about when he wondered why ST would ever want to get into blogging.
sheesh.
I would posted something uplifting but the HA website forgot who I am and wanted me to log in again – and I forget what email addy/pw I used. oh well. Let em burn den…
😈
Duffer,
Thank you so much for the candy you got for Allie. She said a Tsaiko gave it to her. I asked her Who? She couldn’t remember, so I’m glad I read todays blog. Thank you for being so thoughtful.
homey/wreck…not Care Bears or Telletubbies….more like ThunderCats….
I swear, these young ‘uns and there gunfundit new words…
marlis- I think the UH travel experts should cozy up to Southwest Airlines and make “such a deal” to move the teams (both kinds both ways) and the FANS (both kinds, both ways) to kick-start their Hawaii (charter?) service.
They gotta leave off their “oversize pax premium” though.
Sorry Homey….you handsome buggah!
LizK – All the Idol folks are either in rehab or relaxing right now. They start auditions next month in 7 cities. Show starts airing in January.
Just got a call from Margo. She said there were 14 paparazzi hanging outside in a parking lot across from the living room window. There’s a dental office across the way and Halle Berry was in there. Margo saw her come out and took her own photos. Little known fact – Little Miss Sunshine lives in our building but we hardly see her since she’s always busy shooting a film.
FINALLY – MAJOR KUDOS TO COLT!!!
marlis…
As far as I know, (my sister was a cheerleader back in the day, and I had a few friends who were in the band) and I’m no expert, but the cheerleaders and band don’t customarily travel with the team to away games. When my sister cheered they picked one away game a year to attend and had to have fundraisers ala sausage, chili, sweet bread, and huli huli chicken sales to pay for the trips and if the funds weren’t raised, they wouldn’t go.
Some good points about travel costs though.
Hey we need to keep a copy of the “Unko” List and the “Football Terms” list that we started before…
Maybe place them on SteveM’s site too.
Now that it is in ink,
I thought I’d share this (found it on another message board and changed it a bit):
Hawaii’s Colt, who art in the pocket
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy blitz come, thy secondary will be done.
One the field as it is on the clipboard.
Give us this game our MANY receptions
as we forgive those that intercept against us
and lead us not into defeat, but deliver us to victory
For thine is the gridiron, the arm, and the accuracy
Forever and ever.
AMEN!!!
Rich…are you talking about abigail breslin???
***“ON the field…”
Rich- my next video project will be condensing your happy birthday song (it’s too big to post raw). The video will vindicate your claim that you were shaking wax and not hanabata from your fingers
(Jesse) James – Yes
Thank you Liz. ST has been relentless in not believing the wax story!!!
Re Colt and young Joshua. He was talking to ST about that just before I got my chance to say hi to him…
I continue to stand (ok, sit) in awe of our Tsai-meister and his thoughtfulness – esp. when it comes to da keiki.
HiHO!
Marlis,
Always enjoy your contributions!
Yes it seems that while the NCAA has a limit on how many can be on the travel squad, I am not sure that that limit is also some kind or “minimum requirement” as well.
Of course with 45-55 players on an away game, one would have to think that some adjustments to a game plan would be affected as well. (i.e. special team players, depth in case of injury, etc…)
myki,
happy belated birthday.
could you or sjmacro give me an email at chawan_cut at yahoo.com??
thanks!
Wena – for you…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZazZnBxzC8&feature=related
wassamatta chawan? No one emailing you?
Good Afternoon (evening), Hope everyone had a good weekend.
If any tsaikos want to play fantasy football this year, I’ve set up a league on yahoo. Since most of the tsaikos are in Hawaii I made it a live online draft. The date I set was Sunday, August 24 8pm Pacific/ 5pm Hawaiian.
If this works for you send me an email at djmitcho at tsai-kos dot com.
I will give you the league name, number and password. We need a min of 8 players and a max of 12.
Pauoa Boy,
If you still want in, I sent the info to your tsai-ko mail.
The Washington Post has a rough estimate on the breakdown of Colt’s contract. He’s about 5% below the total for Colt’s contract, so if you add 5% to these numbers you’ll probably have a good estimate.
About the Favre to Washington rumor:
Colt –
If you’re lurking out there…your hanai family can’t be prouder of you!! Finally, you’re on the payroll, and the Redskins will soon realize that you are worth every penny and much, much more Please remember that you have a standing invitation to attend EVERY Tsaiko cattle call in Hawaii from now on, as my honored guest…so, if you don’t mind, may I sit next to you?
Merv –
It’s great to hear from you. Good to hear that you and the family are doing well. You folks sure know how to throw a Georgia luau! Please, please, try to fit in to your travel plans as many trips to Hawaii as often as you can. We’d love to paaahhhtaayy with you and the family!
Jojo –
Beware of Homey…after I poked his pectoralis chi-chi’s or whatevah, he made a move to poke mine…but he saw A-House giving him da kine eye, and he wisely pulled back and struck an Atlas muscle-man pose instead, along with James’ Tarzan pose, that I captured in a pic…
Homey –
You missed my speech because you went to the lua, and on your way back, I seen you stop in front of the glass trophy case…pretending to admire the trophies, when in fact you flexing/admiring your pecs/whatevahs. A-House and MasaBoy do the same thing, but very discreetly…but you, for 10 minutes?? Nah, nah, love you lots and very relieved that you are really Homey and are ok.
Mrs. A-House – The only reason I was at the trophies is because I wrote, “Mrs. A-House wuz hea” on it.
homey,
nope, not getting any luv…. ha.
nah, they just did.
Stephen I found the quote
http://blogs.honoluluadvertiser.com/warriorbeat.php/2008/01/18/free_autograph_session_saturday
jojo – Size doesn’t matter….at least that’s what homey says….MWAHAHAHHAHAHA
Happy birthday Allie. Had some Zachary’s Chicago Pizza for breakfast. Hope you think you’re missing out.
al,
just saw your post from yesterday. that was probably me in the front row of that basketball game yelling at the aggies of nmsu. i think i yelled “Reggie Natio….. oh wait, he left you!!!! aawwww pooor ting, you guys was just one stepping stone!!!”
not sure which friend you’re talking about though. no one else has a chawan “cut” amongst my friends that i know of. lakerj32 has one clean shaven cut. my other friend has the filipino cut and the other guys are twins and are short cut.
unless was some stranger that was just sitting by me. i forget already.
and stephen,
i always liked “Opposites Attract” or “Cold Hearted Snake”
Zachery’s!
They should do mail orders!
Good evening, Tsaiko-Nation.
Back from work and caught up on the blog.
Happy Birthday, Allie Tsai, must be nice to be 23. I vaguely remember that time.
Good for Colt, now he will show to the rest of the world what he’s made of. I say it again and you’re all free to call me crazy, but Colt will start the last three games of the season. The Red Skins fans, who will have seen him in pre-season show his mettle, will call for him. Campbell will be injured and the old guy can’t quite do it. By the last three games the Redskins will be out of the play-offs and Colt will start, winning all three games. Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Congratulations to Colt. Always good to see fellow Monarchs do well.
Ronnie, I am pretty sure I’ll make LoCal Ohana on Wednesday.
The CFP in me always looks at these contract total of 1.8 or 1.7 Mi with a little skepticism.
His signing bonus After tax and agent equates to about $ 4000. per month. Just about enough to live on and maybe save !0%
His net, net. net in the first year ,might allow him to salt away $200K
Unfortunately most rookie Pros spend on depreciating assets and maybe some RE which can’t be real smart right now unless he buys in Kona or Hawaii Kai
So if he makes the team, he still has to make it to the second go around to earn enough so he doesn’t have to ever work down the road
Reminds me of what Paul Hornung said for his epitah “I never had a job in my life”

Mojo,
The most important picture is missing… The one that shows that they have soap in the locker room showers. 😆
WM – I like the sign with the Tsaiko badge on it!
Woo hoo- WarriorMojo! 😆
The other sign with the badge on it.
Great pics Mr. Mojo!
WarriorMojo- nice pics, did you have any problems finding the place?
Warrior Mojo,
I like those pix with your Tsako name tag …just like “kilroy was here”…classic. Mahalo for sharing. Hope you are having a great time in D. C.
djmitcho – Count me in, email me instead though at pauoaboy31 at yahoo dot com, mahalos…
LTUH – Who’s Kilroy? 😆
warriormojo, you are now a stalker! you stalk colt like i stalk my sweetie pie jason. he is such a math wiz!
Sorry i missed you guys and gurls at the blog bash. if koakane and i never have dramas i would have stayed. my bad. i wanted to get jasons number and turn him on to some real math problems.
bye sweeties!
WarriorMojo – great pics! I love that your Tsaiko badge gets to share the experience!
Dennis Halloran – I’m glad you will get to make the CC on Wednesday. It should be a great time!
There’s the Hammer… Good Job MOJO!!!
Hey, thanks for looking at the pictures. Redskin Park is awesome. Don’t know if you can tell from the photos, but they have three full grass fields plus one artificial turf field. Must make it really easy for everybody to get their practices in.
HiFlyer, wasn’t too hard to find although I kind of expected a sign at the entrance to Redskin Park. Anyway, guard shack was empty so I just drove on in. They’re getting ready for Fan Appreciation Day this weekend so they have some tents and stuff being set up. Wish I was going to be here then.
Brother Love #113 – I believe Guyton wanted to pursue a dancing career at Polynesian Culture Center and the other Galdeira didn’t make the cut…
Mojo,
No pics of the security guys running after you? 😆
Homey,
Was Fred Sr. & Lillian your uncle & auntie and Freddie boy and his brothers your cousins?
SJU has a tent for the press guys, at least we got a “box” 🙂
Homey,
Actually Kilroy was me during World War II. 🙂
WarriorMojo:
LOVE the photos, esp the ones w/your Tsaiko badge!
Pauoa Boy:
Now I’m going to have to explain your “cherry” reference to Mrs. A-House…gee, thanks…
Nice pics WarriorMojo!! I like the personal touch you added!!
Mrs. A-house – Howzit Mom, of course I going make the CC ova hea in the LoCal, wish you could be here so can buss laughs some more, you one comedian too. 🙂
WarriorMojo,
You should leave the Tsaiko signs up. Colt would get a kick out of it, if he’d see them.
midori7 – oops sorry sis, act like mom get virgin ears or sumtin, aiyah haha
WarriorMojo – Mean pics, hope Ching Field can look like that, nice… Eh I thought tagging was illegal?
Re-Check This Site
http://cfreference.net/cfr/show_school_season/1889?season=1909
For the football aficionados of UH’s history, especially if you want to go back in time and look up scores from 1909 to the present this site is pretty good. To the visionaries, the players, coaches and fans and supporters, that laid the foundation in the very first team in 1909 we acknowledge their perseverance, and although posthumous, we say this there’s a special place in this writer’s heart for the trailblazers. It angers us to see that our very own athletic web site looks at the past with little gratitude. Even the football media guide, according to a newspaper article(BK, other paper) in 2000 says the school doesn’t realize “we’re not where we are today if it wasn’t for the firsts teams of the past that laid the bricks, so to speak, in building this foundation in a long ago era”. For the UH athletic site, a few clicks of a button is doable. And not excusable for ignoring the firsts teams. And for the media guide, admit tingly, I haven’t seen recent ones. But I think a few pages reserved for the teams pre 1966 is regressing, but to give them their due and paying homage and respect to the teams and players of the past shows the school has deference to the trailblazers. And I think this would bold well with the public.

In addition this site allows you to see the drafted players over the years.
WAC awards (individual) and bowl game records. It also allows you to see UH team to team records. (still looking for a site for the roster of the UH players-as far as I can see I can’t find any)

PB – if you need more stickers, let me know, still get from the party. Have those at the CC send me email and I will mail to them.
Okay, I was catching up with yesterday’s blog when I saw this post. DO you mean to tell me NOBODY got video of Gigi charging the cake!?!
I was standing over there checking out the two tone cake and trying to decide if I wanted a slice, when BOOM! an unidentified propelled object blasts in front of me. I was just about to say something rude when I noticed the… mu’u mu’u.
Now, I don’t usually run from fights, but I ain’t stupid, either. So I decided to back away and give space to thevMad Mu’u Mu’u… when suddenly I get blasted from the OTHER side! And this time it’s none other than WassupDoc!
At that point I felt like Colt in the Sugar Bowl, getting whipsawed from both sides so I decided to ease away from the cake. There is NO cake good enough to risk the combined might of Gigi and WD.
Florida Ted, I definitely thought about leaving the tag, but I couldn’t bear to leave it. I did bring an “H” sticker and was going to slap it onto a sign somewhere, but didn’t see a good spot. Might go back and try again later. I agree that Colt would probably love seeing that.
LK, thanks again for making the Tsaiko badges of honor.
WarriorMojo,
Great photos! Awesome to see the Tsaiko nametag there1
Pauoa Boy & ICYUL8 –
Whoa!! Midori, you off da hook. Big Mama is goin’ give you boys da slippah!! I love bing cherries…but I know there is nothing innocent about YOUR useage when referring to that wholesome fruit. Like I said before…I am VERY shy by nature…so terms like “ROTFLMAO” and “yellow” and/or “clear” “raincoats” give me stress! Took me weeks to figure out what those terms refer to. I’m sweating as I post this…
Colt –
Dennis Halloran’s post #246 is very interesting and informative. You are blessed to have wonderful supportive smart parents who have guided you well till now. I have every confidence that they will continue to do so throughout your football career and in later life. Hope you can feel the love and good wishes that continuously emanate from your adoring fans, not only in Hawaii, but from across the U.S. and the world!! If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to ask for me through Stephen Tsai…he’s my celebrity neighbor.
Warrior Mojo –
Your warm and funny personality shine brightly through those great DC photos with the Tsaiko badge. Just knowing that you took your badge with you on this long trip is evidence of your commitment to and love for the Tsaikos and Warrior football. Enjoy the rest of your trip and safe travels til you’re home again.
Dennis,
After seeing your posts for so long and enjoying your insight into Orange County teams, I’m happy to know that I’ll finally get to meet you in person! Wednesday will be the first Calf Call for Pauoa Boy and you…pretty cool to see how our group is expanding!
mojo….too funny.
she has so much cake she was up past midnight with an incredible sugar rush!!!
WarriorMojo: great pics. Brings back memories of when I was stationed in the DC area during the Billy Kilmer days. Never went to a live game at the time; now we have another reason to visit my old stomping grounds again. sjmacro
OK, BUSTED! And to think I rushed Mojo without knowing it was Mojo. You should’ve introduced yourself.
Besides, mojo, how do you know it wasn’t some other damsel wearing a muu?
Al, the thing is, that story is absolutely true. When it comes to cake, don’t ever get in the way of Gigi or WD. Next Tsaiko Party we take the last slice of cake and put it in between them. Winner takes all.
anyway, mojo, ladies always go first, guys second.
Great photos, Mojo. I had no idea Dan Snyder was a member of the tribe…
In about an hour, some Best Buys in the Eastern Time Zone will begin selling NCAA Football 2009. This link gives the list of Best Buys that will be open at midnight…unfortunately, there are NO Best Buys in Hawaii or San Diego that will be open at midnight. Austin has *3* Best Buy stores opening at midnight!
By the way, for the Calf Call folks tomorrow…click on my name for the menu at Ono Onos. Looks pretty good to me!
Stretch – Shutes I will ask on Wed.
Mrs. A-House – Uhh…I was talking about the sweet maraschino cherries, how you gotta pop the cover off first to get to the good stuff, 🙂
Garret – CC is tommorrow or Wednesday?
While I was in angst over how many missing profiles are on the UH Cheerleader’s web section, this was updated:
http://www.uhathletics.hawaii.edu/pr.html?prid=15188&p=8
Speaking of NCAA Football 09, there are huge problems with rosters. First off, here is a link to a spreadsheet with the current-gen rosters. UH’s roster has a lot of errors. The other problem deals with editing rosters — there are issues where teams have 0 ratings or disappear altogether when rosters are edited.
Garret, thanks for the list of Best Buys doing the midnight opening. These is one in Sterling, Virginia about five miles from my hotel. And I am wide awake after sleeping all day. But it would be silly since I don’t have a game console and I won’t be home for two weeks. Hmmm….
Pauoa Boy,
Sorry, the Calf Call is tomorrow…I was looking at the menu and I guess I skipped ahead…
Garret,
However there is this little place called “Toys&Joys” in Aiea and Kaimuki that started selling the PS2 version (and probably other systems as well, not sure I called and only asked about the PS2 version) that started selling them TODAY (07/14/2008).
I’m gonna pick it up after I finish work tonight.
Jason – that’s why I think the NCAA game comes out to early. A lot of the rosters have some players who’ve been cut, some players on the team not on the game, numbers, heights and weights all hammaz too. Depth charts not updated either. Suprising though that they instilled our new jersey design in the game with the green helmets… Regardless I will still go get the game, maybe when have tailgate at a future game can buss out the TV and have shmall kine tournament ah?
So nice of Colt to meet up with the Miyazawas.
Dr. Jeff’s former hygienist, Kari (Nakasone) Sing Chow, named her son Brennan, after Colt:

WarriorMojo,
Two weeks in DC in the summer…that is rough! I hope that your work goes well and that you don’t have to spend too much time outside. I’ve spent 5 days in DC before and the last few days were rough for me. At least on your expense account you should be able to eat well–there are some good restaurants all over the DC area.
Pauoa Boy,
The Calf Call is Wednesday. Can you tell I already figured out what I’m going to order and was thinking ahead to it? Messing up twice is pretty bad…
Garret – Wednesday, July 16th at 11:30 AM at Ono Ono Hawaiian BBQ – 17582 East 17th Street, Tustin, CA 92780. What I got from Ronnie, so I just like make sure it’s Wed., not tommorrow??? Plus that menu look broke mout kine mouth watering…
haha – no worries you almost had me conpusion too 🙂
Jason,
Wow they just totally went kaka all over our WR’s huh?
But Ryan Mouton a 72 overall rating? Nice to see Jameel Dowling getting one of the higher ratings on the squad, but who the heck are QB’s 15 and 3?
I think they mixed up #2 and #3, cause #3 (supposedly Dowling) is a great KR. I think they meant Mouton.
And how you like ‘Inoke Funaki. And Greg Salas as a TE, not WR.
Kazz – das why jacked up, if you get online hook up can update the rosters… I think Jason had one link up previously?
Pauoa Boy: You missed what I said about the roster edit bug, however. Read about it here:
http://www.freencaa09rosters.com
I can’t wait now.
I hope there will be more spread formations under center in 2009.
In 2008 UH only had two spread base formations under center (trips and basic 2-2 and no variations with something like a “Flanker Close”).
Re 298:
oops… Joshua Miyazawa’s dad is Dr. Jeff, a dentist in Kaneohe.
I just read this article on Hawaii’s college fantasy football outlook. Noticed the writer is a guy who runs a website for the Smurf Turf Team…
http://www.fantasycollegeblitz.com/wac-preview-hawaii-warriors/
Jason – I read em, hopefully the rosters not stuck on only 70 guys and can rearrange things like always…
Good Afternoon Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
OK, first I didn’t win but I didn’t lose either. Vegas was too hot (115), but hubby and I had a nice time. So sad that I missed all the blog bash action and fun.
Just wanted to catch up, but takes so long…so just saying hello to everyone. Can’t wait to see some pics from my fave people…LizK, Jason, and Mrs. A-House to name a few. I felt the loss of not being there while in Vegas.
Stephen…the pics are so nice when catching up with the blog…thanks for that. Did you karaoke again last Thursday?
Ronnie…I see that you are still working on the streaming video. At least there is a possible of another Tsaiko in Boise with you.
Fourth of July weekend, my other BFF went down to see my son who was waiting to start MP school for the Marines in St. Louis. They stayed at some hotel across the street from the Rams practice facilities, but no one was really around for the weekend. They were looking though…he was hoping to see Pisa! At least he got to see Pujols hit his 300th HR.
Take care and I will check in later…still getting over my jetlag.
Still 70 players; more than that, and the rosters get big. They already compromised by creating the 40-44-48 system, where you can’t specify certain numbers (e.g., 41, 45, 53). That limits the size of each roster, since there are less options for each rating.
Sorry to have blocked you, WM. The only thing i I ate at the Blog Party was the cake. While the rest of you were hitting the pupu line, I kept waiting for someone to start cutting the cake. Finally, when I saw a Tsaiko walk by with a slice, that’s when I headed on over and took my first piece. I went back for seconds about half an hour later.

Family Promise of Hawai’i is an innovative program set up to help families with children escape homelessness. Its mission is to mobilize existing community resources to help families experiencing homelessness transition to sustainable independence.
This is done by developing, training, and supporting a network of interfaith congregations who host families quarterly. Each host site provides a safe place to sleep, good food, and generous hospitality for one week at a time before moving on to another host site. In addition, other nearby religious communities which may not have the facilities for overnight stays join in as helping congregations.
During the day, guests work, pursue employment, attend school, or enroll in job training. Two Family Centers – on in Kailua and the other in Makiki – provide access to phones, mail, fax, a copier, showers, and laundry facilities. The program provides transportation to & from the host sites and the Family Center.
In March 2006, the Windward Network & its Family Center opened while the Honolulu Network, which opened in July 2007, will be celebrating its first birthday on July 19. Three to five families (up to 14 people) can be accommodated by each network at any given time.
Wonder if they put Vili the Warrior in the game? I remember when he sued EA Sports for not obtaining permission to use his character in the game back in 06.
#303, Kazz: Wow, that’s way too low for Mouton.
Pauoa Boy,
I just updated the 2008 rosters by myself. Of course all I played was Dynasty Mode and I bumped up some people’s stats through the summer work out sessions.
Looks like I will have to do this again. I can’t stand looking at “QB 6” or “DE 94”.. so lame…
Oh wells I guess you can’t have all the goodies in one game. Like the fact that the Lineman actually look significantly bigger than the skill position players and not so skinny. Although I don’t know why they make our polynesian boys so light skinned instead of tanned brown in the game?
#314: I don’t believe including Vili would be such a priority that EA would pay him separately for the right to include him in the game, especially given what happened in the past.
Bonar,
RE: Mouton
Yes it is. Funny because while we all expect Dowling to be great, he wasn’t here/active last season.
Wonder why EA gave him such a high rating?
I think E-Rob got an 80-ish rating though. Also saw that Pilares (still listed at HB) has an 80-ish rating as well.
Pauoa Boy,
Funny you mention that.. there was no “Poly”-hair option in the appearance alteration option in the game.
But I always chose that one real p*ssed off face for all my poly players!!!
CHEE-HOOO!!!!
Hopefully the “O-Line Opu” look is there for more realism.
One day they should throw in the option to give your players tattoos and other things. I know those things should be second to game play, which I agree, but hey.. IF IT’S IN THE GAME…
Kazz – Yup I change um to all correct names, numbers, heights and weights, too. Funny thing though is that EA Sports cannot recognize all the name pronunciations, but somehow can say Funaki correctly. Remember when Satele was always Sa-teal, like what da heo?
bonar – thanks again for your generous donations for the prizes.
bonar – I bet after the incident they could care less, but would be cool to see Vili chest bumping one of the players after a touchdown or something in the game?
That reminds me…
Funaki originally looked REAL asian in NCAA 2008 and Michael Lafaele looked like David Farmer with a mullet.
Aiyesoooos…
Having Vili as a mascot in the game would be funny tho, especially for the “Mascot Game” mode.
I would like to see 11 Vili’s running around the field…
I wonder if ST survived the jet skiiing??
***Vilis***
Believe Stretch!
Believe that there will be a new post tomorrow.
If had Vili in the mascot game, garrans our OLine and Dline ratings would be 100…
ST on jet ski’s, now wouldn’t that be a sight to see…
Okay Nuff Lurking today… Heading home…
Hey PB,
Midori got a saying… “when push come to shove…. Midori kicks okole and ALWAYS wins”
Wouldn’t expect less of an evil twin…
(I remember passing the buck when Mrs.A-house asked what was “ROTFLMFAO” and “OMFG”… Homey and I set it up and dug out.)
#319, Interesting….I guess things fall throught the cracks. I hate that you have to either manually assign names or buy/download the program or whatever that assigns the names for you. I did it two years ago but not last year.
One of the little things that annoyed me was how they would show those “fans” in the stands and for UH home games they were wearing aloha shirts..
Last I checked the Manoa Maniacs are NOT wearing that to the football games.
(Which reminds me…)
I need to customize a sign in the game that reads: “EAT SPAM, POUND FRESNO”
Hahahaha! However one would need to allocate enough in the budget for disciplinary action during Dynasty Mode. hehehehehehe j/k 😉
#322, Stretch: Hey, bro, not a problem. You were obviously a very vital part of what was a successful event-all for the love of the program. So, thank you!
bonar – please come out to some of the functions so others can meet you also.
WarriorMojo — you bringing your Tsai-ko name tag on a business trip to Washington D.C. and posting pictures of it is the last straw! First, you come to the early Cattle Calls, talk music all night on the blog “night shift”, and make past UH game DVDs for Tsai-kos for free or at media-only cost. Then you do karaoke and try to set up a party. So even though no one sees your photo by your request…I guess I gotta find a black polo shirt for you too 😐
WreckinEyez – Hopefully I can sweet talk my way out of getting the slippah from momma A-House. I would let midori win anyway, but I get some tricks up my sleeve if needed 🙂
WarriorMojo – dat was you who made last seasons game DVD’s at the Bash. You know I would pay a little shiny penny for one of those sets if possible 🙂
Attached are the pictures.
Pauoa Boy – the 2 DVD sets of last year’s games were donated by chawan-cut and oldie
Oye my bad okay well chawan-cut or oldie how much for one set? Lemme know seriously…
Thanks Stretch
bonar: You mean you’ve purchased rosters before? No! Ugh, I hate that, rosters should be for free.
If you want PS2 rosters, I have the hardware to transfer downloads from my PC to my PS2. Even if I don’t have the game, I can still do that for NCAA Football 09, should PS2 rosters come out. Or maybe Kazz’s roster, if he doesn’t mind making it available to me. Just something to think about.
Jason,
My “roster” is 100% based on the actual rosters. For those odd #s in the game, I just improvise and change #s accordingly.
#342: Jason, I think two years ago I got a free download for the 360, but I had to buy a 360 accessory (I forgot what it is) to get everything on the disc.
bonat, did I meet you on Thursday? It’s all a blur.
I do know that I only saw the cake under its plastic cover. Did anyone get a picture of it before the hoards descended? Dangit… i didn’t even get any…
Too busy taking pictures of homey winning the first door prize.
Okay, if it was the accessory, then that’s different. Other people out there charge, where you mail in your mem card to them, and they put it on for you.
OK, ouch.
Jet skiing is sore.

I am really looking forward to meeting you both. Your posts are so informative, and it is evident how much time and effort you put into posting a lot of excellent thoughts and information. I would be honored to have you autograph my “Perfect Season” book. Please find me at our next get-together. I may be wearing a scarf banded around my forehead if the room is not adequately air-conditioned.
ICYUL8 –
You didn’t sign my book either. I’ll give you a loving whack after you sign. LOL

Kazz,
thats exactly how Florida’s gonna be feeling startin exactly 46 days, 16 hours from now (not countin da blog’s tiimah being a little offah!
There goes money I’ll never see again…
What a rip….
Mojo, I was standing next to you on the other side of the trash receptical and witnessed the stampede. But what was really funny is, that you are such a class act, you never had a piece of cake and was just reviewing your plan of attack when you got almost “body slammed”, and told to make way. I sorta thought someone would have asked if you were in line, or said “excuse me, have you eaten yet?” Of course I only felt sorry for you for about 4 seconds, as I continued to shovel down another delightful bite of cake. Then later Bulla was laughing at me because I indicated I have surgery this week and was suffering all night without a chair…Bulla said in front of Pride, “Barry, turn around. Is that hundred or so chairs enough for you?”
Warrior Mojo ~ I never thought I’d see the day that I would be showing any luv for the Redskins! The reality is, with HI’s man Colt in the house, he will bring da shine to a heretofore lack luster team.
BTW Nice touch with the Tsaiko calling card in place. We’re everywhere!
Now, when Colt becomes the starter, I will journey to the ‘Skins headquarters building and convince them to take the extra American flag down and fly the Hawaiian Flag in it’s place. After all, we are a nation within a nation and our nation is under Colt.

I haven’t posted since December ’07.
The Blog Bash was so much fun !
But I just wanted to say thank you to Mister Stephen Tsai for making this blog possible; and all of the ‘worker elves.’

More than a little off topic:
Does anyone have any information on the History of the ILH and OIA (athletics) especially the split when public schools left the ILH and why
Any information would be more than helpful (:
I’m working on my Senior Project (in my sophomore year), and I’m attempting the impossible.
If you have any information please email me at baahriieee (at) aim (dot) com.
Ttylaaterrss & thank you so much (:
Do the Skins still do their camp at Dickenson College in PA? We used to go up as kids and watch practice. About 2 years we received a call from someone with the same name as my husband – since we had lived in Maryland previously he found our names in some records. Anyway, he said he was looking for some relatives as there was this 100 acre piece of land up in Garrett County, Maryland that the Redskins wanted to purchase but he had to get some extended family who owned it as well to sign the paperwork (but he didnt know them, it had been passed down through the years). I told him we could be related, what was the value..he said it was going to sell for 3.4 million and I said “yes, we must be related”…unfortunately we couldnt prove it.

Kekoa,
Coltz in da house; no longer will I tolerate Dallas Dilleez calling my beloved da Fore Skins. 😆
Kekoa- who woulda guessed. But you do speak truly. We did become one nation under Colt. Da braddah is special. He got it and we all got it – aloha – spirit – belief – unity – victory – it transcended all the old reasons for “no can” and became “did”.
Hi Brie!
Hi Aunty Liz (:
It’s nice to be back on the blog (sorta)
Haha.
The conversations are quite entertaining (:
LizK,
Bulla wen stick coupla dry cane tops in Barry’s u no weah an light em up, Barry wuz smokin; 367 is da pruuf 😯 heh heh
Kazz: You can’t say I didn’t warn you. I said it on this blog, there would probably be minimal attention paid to the last-gen versions of the game. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that the uniforms are like that. Why in the world should EA Sports put the effort into creating new uniforms for last-gen games? The big money is in current-gen development, that’s what they’re going to do. Since the player models are different for last-gen vs. current-gen, they can’t just port things over, like other features.
That said, if you’re interested in getting rid of the game, let me know. I might be interested in buying it off your hands, depending on certain things in the game and how much you’re looking to get back. Look to see how much you can get via trade-in or eBay or something like that, too. Or try and talk the Toys N Joys folks into letting you return it; after all, you were under false impressions that the UA uniform would be in the game. It probably not work, but worth a try, at least.
Stretch/SteveM: Count me in for karaoke.
Interesting how so many QBs in high school and transferring when they find that they will not be the starter.
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff.

Amazing that it costs just about $100 for Apple to make each 3G iPhone and it is getting about $400 per 3G iPhone. The 2G iPhone cost Apple $170 to make, so prices for the parts have really come down!

SteveM: not able to attend KK..bummers…will be taking my mom to the mainland LA, LV, Tahoe, Reno an SF..hope to be back by the 18th to be able to attend the football clinic. Still need to book flight…so expensive right now…
Notre Dame apparently has chosen their AD. Once again they chose someone outside of athletics. I think they once hired an ambassador for their AD, so at least this guy has some understanding of the NCAA.
Tuesday’s Washington Post has an article about Colt.
Jason,
You can have it. 100% free.
I know you mentioned about the lack of updates about last gen systems, but if they were going to keep the same uniforms and just replace the Nike Swoosh with the Under Armour “UA” it seems like it was almost done in jest.
Of course I didn’t find it funny.
I’m a stickler for accuracy, and this bothers me. Not to mention that it’s just toooooo similar to NCAA 2008, in terms of the look, the playbooks (although a new Nickel 3-3-5 package was added to UH defense). However I was most disappointed (only second to the uniforms) with the offensive playbook being exactly the same as last year’s.
But to be honest with you, despite all that, I probably would have been satisfied if the uniforms were updated.
Looks like I will have to place money aside to actually buy a new system… Most likely a PS3 (grew up on Playstation, not looking to play online…). Sheesh… I’m afraid I’m going to have to actually buy other games to justify the cost.
Or I can just forget about it… it’s just a game right??? Maybe by the time NCAA 2010 rolls around I’ll have a change of heart about buying a new system.
Anyway, the next time I’ll for sure run into you might not be until the Weber State game tailgate, if sooner, e-mail me and I can just drop off the game to you.
Washington Times has the details if you want to see Colt in the preseason. Looks like he has at least 2 nationally televised preseason games!
Kazz,
Microsoft recently announced a $50 price cut for the xBox 360…maybe the PS3 will have a similar price cut?
Or, Target and Circuit City have the Wii on Sunday.
Garret- you think Colt will play in pre-season? Not much time to get up to speed and get some reps!
Time to set my dvr then!
Heard on the radio today..Colt’s agent Ryan Tollner is hoping that CB will be the 3rd QB and be playing in the first, second and fifth pre-season games. Possibly from the 2nd half of the 1st game.
Also, said that RGM may have another chance with another team by training camp time…
WANT ANOTHER CHANCE TO PARTY? Now that August is but two weeks away, is there any interest in coordinating a post-practice weekday potluck on campus in August for the football and women’s volleyball teams both of which will both be in full practice for their 2009 seasons? One possible day is Tuesday, August 19, prior to Coach Heather’s football clinic. The Tsaiko-Guys could handle the clean up while we’re off learning new things. .
Another possible time could be when Wafan is here, but he hasn’t posted any specifics yet because he’s traveling this week; however, he should be back amongst us by next Sunday evening.
The event would be similar to a T-Gate Party. Its purpose, besides having fun, eating and fellowship, would be to let the teams know we’re behind them 1000%.
Please indicate an interest in helping to plan the event here on the blog.

LIZ: What is a “jew-moan”?
Hi Doris! Yes, I’m excited to be a fan of the ‘Skins. I just had a mean visual</i? of me, DPK, Bulla, Pride and RK dressed in the trademark Washington Redskins mu’u mu’u. We would complete our costume with the infamous pig snout, hand bag and the wide-brim straw hats cheering next to the ‘Skin fans that made it fashionable!
Garret,
Again, mahalo for the heads-up.
I will look around!
THANKS!!!
Hi Kekoa!
Hi JaM, Hi Kekoa… Kazz, it’s only a game 😉
WassupDoc- It’s a Barry.
Duffer – Yes! That’s the relatives!
kekoa #398 this is one time i am glad i didn’t go to kapalama heights.
Liz,
Oh no no no… That’s like saying, the Warriors are just another team 😉
😳 oops… sorry, Kazz… nice of you to share w/ Jason tho!
…And before I forget, I’d like to remind the Tsaiko Nation out there to gather any extra reams of plain bond paper, or cartridges of printer ink to donate to Doris Sullivan. Details of where to drop them off will be be provided by contacting me at kekoa22 (at) aol (dot) com
If it is easier for you to send funds via credit card, you may do so at her web site and click on ‘donations’:

~ You may also contact Doris by phone to ask how else you may help at 808-261-5000…or…
~ email doris @pacificathleticalliance.com
Your Kokua will allow her to continue doing the great work that she does to help our young players to connect with institutions that may help them obtain a Scholarship in exchange for their playing abilities. Anything you can do to help her in at a very critical time would help.
Mahalo Doris, for all that you do.
Kazz: Go try talk to the folks at Toys N Joys first, anyways. If they won’t take it back, then I’ll take it. Thanks!
Al ~
Re: 398
I got one in your size Al…don’t make us have to hunt you down to pour you in it!! Hehehe…
LizK, you might have quoted from the best selling book, called “Modern Yiddish Pacific Pidgeon, A Goyimese Guide”. Yidlet: a diminutive Jew. Goyimese: Non Jews, often times an Asian non Jew, but not necessarily. Jewmoan: A person of Jewish ancestry who is either a Samoan Citizen and/or is also of Samoan heritage. Jewmoanese: aka, Abe, Catalina, & Winnie Markowitz: A person of Jewish ancestry who is either a Samoan Citizen and/or is also of Samoan and must be of Chinese heritage. Ku-ichi: Jews know that our Sansei brothers are politely talking behind our back in front of us…but it usually isn’t that bad, maybe like “Cool, I get the Ku-ichi’s chasiu.” Jewish Olympian: Refer to the classic “Airplane” video scene and that tiny, tiny pamplet for “light reading.” Jewish favorite media pastime: Is that actor Jewish or Goyimese? Busted: When the Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El on the Pali sees you stash that Egg McMuffin (featuring a pork sausage paddy) or a 7/11 Spam wrapper in the parking lot rubbish bin. Pacific & West Coast Jewish Guilt #871: Todai sushi bar any day of the week or a any CC with the Tsaiko’s.
OK. I’m tired.
reading the responses and man lots of stuff going on
koamahu too bad you neva come. the j&j boys talked about you all night. even before the party they was wondering who would ask you out. in fact stm wondered home come one capitalist always keep mentioning your name. seems every fourth word that came out of his mouth was about yu’s. guess he having no so good a time as 1. da other j secrectly says he seeing someone else but think he playing hard…to get that is. eh if I see dem will let them know.
homey neva like give the all the details cause figga you can fill in the juicy parts lattas.
steveM and lizk need advise on mac will email you. yea lizk neva send you the 1st one yet.
ST – so how was your day? Never been jet-skiing before. My kid wants to go parasailing on her bday next month.
Doris – I think I read that training camp will be at Redskins Park.
So now that Colt is on the team, does that mean they’ll televise more Redskin games here? I think I had withdrawals the first season I moved back to Hawaii and couldn’t see all the games. The best thing about the time difference is you don’t waste all day watching football. OK, that was back before Sun night football. Hey I’m old, OK?
kekoa…is it purple?
JaM (& Brie) ~ Nice to see this young lady of yours writing about island football history. Unfortunately, I was busy traveling to parts unknown during the time of the transition. Fortunately, even I could benefit from reading that paper.
Perhaps she could email Wes Nakama who writes about Prep sports and pick his brain. I’ll bet he has stuff in the HA archives that would help build an informative senior paper that would earn you a Tsaiko Star Student Award.
Hey – the Redskins BELIEVE too. Check this shirt out. Go Skins!

Re: #408
Heavens no! That would clash with Bulla’s Weber State attire. There is a certain cake-eating Tuntarella I heard about that favors that color as well.
Afterall, we do have our standards and traditions to uphold ya know.
Happy Belated Birthday to Allie and Myki!!!
Get well wishes to RainbowCliff!!! Miss your presence on the blog.
Good evening/morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Aloha from Kauai
Brie — I was around when the public schools left the ILH to go into the OIA. Don’t remember much, except that I think papa AL would remember…and also a young Honolulu Advertiser reporter — Curtis Murayama, who covered high school football around that time. 😕
Kekoa.
Good suggestion..Thanks..Brie is off to bed..she’ll catch your post in the morning. Actually she’s doing a little bit more than just a paper. She needs background info to present a case for change.
Off to bed for me too..
Good Night to all!
Koakane ~ Check your email box, I answered your question.
JaM/Brie,
The five public schools–Farrington, McKinley, Kaimuki, Roosevelt and Kalani split from the ILH and joined the Rural Oahu Interscholastic Association in 1970. There were four private schools in the ILH at that time–St. Louis, Kamehameha, Punahou and Iolani.
The basic issue was the “inequality” of the public and private schools. The latter often have fatter athletic budgets, better facilities, a larger pool of quality athletes on campus and a bigger geographic reach from which to draw athletes.
If you are doing a research project the State Archives may have some documents which may shed more light on the reason for the split.
kekoa got it

New post: Stutzmann commits to UH
Ok my EIS Pahtna…I trust you will take them to all of our approved EIS venues. We don’t want them leaving here back to the mainland carrying any invasive species, kalua stones, dead dolphins or whales stuck in the grill of their cars.
I guess I owe Warrior Mojo my life. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I were caught between Doc & Gigi and an innocent piece of cake. Thanks for running interference for me WM…I owe you one!

damien was in the old ILH because I played against the old ILH in the termite palace back in da days.
rememba the split cause we got paper clipping of the eventual break up form folks back home. I was in washington at the time and remember reading about it. later when I coached I spoke to many of the coaches from city schools (private-ehamada, dbothello, cchai, rmarcial and public-cmiyashiro, ewatanabe, ) about the spit. many interesting stories and opinions about the split from both sides. lots of blame placed on everybody.
so sad and too bad they will never revive the old ILH again.
sorry mistake
