Rainbow Wahine close trip at UC Davis

After commanding sweeps of UC Riverside earlier this week, Hawaii and UC Davis meet today to close the opening weekend of the Big West women’s volleyball season.
The Rainbow Wahine (4-5, 1-0 Big West) enter today’s 4 p.m. match at University Credit Union Center with a 15-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Aggies (5-7, 1-0), but were tested in two wins in 2019.
UH rallied past UC Davis in five sets (22-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12) in a match at the Stan Sheriff Center and won in four sets (25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15) in the rematch in Davis, Calif.
UC Davis scored its lone win in the series on Oct. 26, 2013 with a 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15, 15-9 home win. UH has won the last 13 meetings.

Set 3
>> Lana Radakovic puts way UCD’s first three kills of the set to give the Aggies a 3-2 lead. UH answers with a 3-0 burst and another 4-0 run with Igiede and Lang on UH’s eighth block. Igiede puts away a kill in the middle and it’s 9-4. Timeout UCD.
>> Igiede on the service line for another run. Van Sickle gets her 12th kill, Williams connects in the middle, UCD hits into the net. UCD takes its second timeout with UH up 13-5.
>> UCD battles back with a 3-0 run. After a hitting error and a Ough kill UH calls timeout leading 15-11.
>> Two more UH errors and a UCD Davis block and its tied 15-15. UCD takes the lead on a Radakovic kill. Tiffany Westerberg makes her first appearance since the opening week of the season and gets back-to-back kills to give UH the lead back at 17-16.
>> Igiede takes over with three kills and a block with Lang to make it 22-18. Lang goes up for a solo block after a UH overpass and feeds Williams to give UH match point. Van Sickle hammers her match high 14th kill and UH wins it 25-18, 25-13, 25-19. Rainbow Wahine hit a season-high .396 to improve to 5-5 and 2-0 in the Big West.

SET 2
>> UH opens the set with a Williams/Van Sickle block and stays hot with a .400 start with two kills for Wagoner and two for Van Sickle who hammers an overpass for a 7-4 lead. UCD having trouble with Igiede’s serve and a mishandled ball forces a UCD timeout.
>> Igiede stays on the service line and Williams puts down an overpass, teams with Van Sickle on a block, and gets another kill in the middle. Lang tips over a kill and it’s a 7-0 run and a 12-4 lead. Timeout UCD. Igiede adds an ace and UH leads 13-4.
>> Igiede’s solo block gives UH a 20-9 lead. The Wahine get two sprawling digs by Ikenaga and Van Sickle and Van Sickle comes up with a block to win the rally and give UH set point. Williams scores in the middle and UH wins it 25-13 and leads the match 2-0. UH hitting .431 to UCD’s .167. Van Sickle with nine kills.

SET 1
>> Brooke Van Sickle off to a hot start at 4-for-4, Amber Igiede 3-for-5, and UH is hitting .400. Skyler Williams gets one to fall in the middle and it’s 14-7. Timeout UCD.
>> Riley Wagoner gets her first two kills of the night, Igiede taps down an overpass and UH leads 18-12. UCD takes its second timeout. UH aided by three UCD service errors.
>> UH goes on a 5-0 run to take a 21-12 lead. Igiede and Lang team up on UH’s third block of the set to cap the run. Wagoner’s kill from the back row pushes the lead to 23-14. UCD runs off the next three points, including an ace. Timeout UH leading 23-17.
>> Lana Radakovic extends the run to 4-0 with a kill. Braelyn Akana goes down the line on the left side to give UH set point. Van Sickle’s serve is shanked and UH wins the set 25-18. Wahine hit .389 (15-1-36) to UCD’s .263 (14-4-38).
