Hawaii basketball lands high-scoring junior college guard JoVon McClanahan
A prolific junior-college point guard is set to join the UH men’s basketball team.
JoVon McClanahan, who is completing his first year at Sheridan (Wy.) College, announced on Twitter and then confirmed to Hawaii Warrior World that he will accept a basketball scholarship from the Rainbow Warriors.
If the NCAA schedule holds, McClanahan will be allowed to sign a letter of intent on April 15, the first day of the spring-signing period for basketball recruits. McClanahan, who was an NCAA academic qualifier out of high school, will have four years to play three UH seasons.

This past season, 5-foot-11 McClanahan averaged 23.5 points (on 47.8% shooting, including 44.5% on 3s), 6.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists. Sheridan ran a four-out offense similar in concepts to the one the ‘Bows’ have used in previous seasons.
McClanahan chose UH over UC Santa Barbara, Washington State and Montana State.
His twin brother, Jaden, is a point guard at Independence (Kan.) Community College.
McClanahan was a three-year starter at Salesian High in Richmond, Calif. During his prep career, Salesian was 88-8.
GO BASKET BOWS !!!
GO WARRIORS !!!
BEAT arizona !!!
now if they can get some big strong mobile quick guys who can rebound and shoot (dunk). for some reason the 3 big guys could not jump and hence could not dunk. many shots were lost because they could not jump.
Besides being a a scorer this guy plays defense and dishes a lot.
Amela, Amea, Amela — how U stay???
whitey!
going keep my promise to visit Maui no ka oi before year end
would like to visit Stan S — he was the very first person to greet me as I entered Atherton YMCA in spring of 1959 — great big smile with right hand out to shake my hand — grabbed my suit case and escorted me to the front desk to check in for spring semester
we enjoyed many wonderful years — not good for GPA, but still got my BBA degree
will keep you posted.
anyone remember the 7′ 2″ center for UH many years ago? forgot his name — his vertical leap must have been all of 2″
with the great uncertainty of covid-19 — hope football season is NOT affected for purely selfish reasons
will football and basketball be able to use all their scholarships as soon as possible?
Mr A-House, which one? hahahaha
You might be thinking of Rogue Harris or Seth Sundberg.
Tbs: Seth Sundberg had some talent. His injury late in the season during his senior campaign hampered Hawaii’s chances in the WAC Tournament. It’s Rogue Harris. His teammate, Crosetti Speight, was the more functional San Francisco transfer. I missed the Fabulous Five. These are my fond memories. Mediocrity, the abyss, and occasional moments of transcendence.
Col WasStan S very active in the jc cherry blossom contest in Honolulu? If that is the same Stan, I am sorry to say that he passed away over 10 years ago. When you come over, me and Duffer will take you and your family to lunch or dinner. Your choice. Duffers son was supposed to start flight attendent school at Hawaiian, but think it is delayed. Stay at home is similar to retired life. I think the Warriors will have an exciting season and more will go to the games. The new hc and his staff can recruit, now can he get all going the same direction.
A good get is his twin brother Jaden. Highly rated in high school and started almost every game in jc
Tony Maroney had questionable hops
11. I think twins wanted to be recruited separately, as they went off to different JUCOs (Jovon @Sheridan College and Jaden @Independence College). I also don’t think they wanted to be recruited together, they wanted to be recruited for their individual talent. I remember seeing a tweet from Jovon a year ago that said “I am not a package deal!” or something to that extent.
In any case, Jovon is the scorer of the two and the better overall player. Comparing their first year JUCO stats, Jovon averaged 23 ppg on 48/44/88 shooting splits, 6 rpg and 6 apg. Jaden averaged 9 ppg on 45/32/72 shooting splits, 3 rpg, and 5 apg. Of course, stats don’t always tell the whole story. But watch a game or two of Sheridan College and Independence College and you’ll notice the difference.
Ct$2KD yes probably Rogue that Mr A-House thinking of, but while Seth had some ability he couldn’t jump either. I think Moeller could jump a little but didn’t do much else except for the 2 baskets at each end of the court.
What’s the point (no pun intended) of recruiting 2 of the same PGs?
The Canencia brothers of yesteryear who all went to different schools because they were all 5-1 PGs.
A HOUSE: ROGUE HARRIS- WAS TOLD HE WAS A NICE GUY.
Jaden McClanahan is only 5-9 and he is a shooting guard. Not sure you want to recruit a 5-9 shooting guard. If you recruit Jaden as a PG then he will be taking away playing time from Jovon so Jaden McClanahan is a no go for UH.
hey guys!
all three, harris, sunderg, and maroney had miniscule vertical leaps — counted on their height to play defense
no questioney! all 3 very super nice guys!!!
Whitey:
Yes, same Stan S was very active with Cherry Blossom Festival/Contest in Honolulu
yes, I know he passed, but want to pay my respects to a very good friend.
we had a very good bunch of ‘outside island’ students in our dorm including several others from Maui — brothers who own a dealership and gas station — farmer stock from Kula — big Norm O who sent to Lahaina – and of course my ” roomie ” from Molokai — also a Lahaina grad who became the Under Secretary of Agriculture for the Far East — Ronald T, the ladies man
from Big Island, we had the Harold and Tommy I. bothers from Honomu — family who owned a mortuary – Ken from Hilo
good times did roll for us in all the years in the dorm — also, got I kicked out because we broke the NO COOKING IN THE ROOM rule
international note ables were Masami, Chief Justice of NMI; Dwight Heine, Delegate to Congress from Micronesia, and Barrack Obama, Sr — one of the first East West Center students
Back then, Rogue Harris was not a nice person.
A House I Just returned recently, Iām good. Hope you folks are keeping safe. Go Warriors!
5-7 RB, DQ James commits to UH for 2021

Islandman, maybe the coaching staff should look into recruiting the right side of DQ’s o-line. Majority of his video shows running to the right.
DQ got speed though!!
Ok Col. just let me know when you coming and will give you a ride plus lunch or dinner.
A-H: Tony Maroney blocked out. I don’t think his feet left the court.
Recruit those Recievers that block the run side too
Here’s a possible plan for MLB to start the season with no fans, no visits to the mound and no players in the dugouts.

Just snagged a running back…..Hope he turns out like another Chad Owens kind of runner.
I apologize ahead of time but this needs to be addressed. Hawaii blocked two Muslim bans. It is highly unlikely that we’ll be getting any federal help in the event that this pandemic gets out of hand. Look at the images coming out of Wisconsin. This is only the beginning. Anything is possible. Practice social distancing, try to stay in your house if you can, and wear a mask, even though you will look like a bank robber, especially with a cap. I remain optimistic that there will be football. Stay safe, blog.
