Senior opposite Rado Parapunov and senior hitter Colton Cowell each put down 11 kills as No. 1 Hawaii swept No. 11 Stanford for a second consecutive night, winning the non conference volleyball match in Stanford, Calif., 25-23, 25-13, 25-20.
It was the the Rainbow Warriors’ 14th straight nonconference road win dating back to 2018 and Hawaii’s seventh sweep in a row, 12th of the season. The Warriors (14-0) only have dropped two sets, one each in the 3-1 road victories at Lewis and Loyola.
Hawaii cleaned up its serving, finishing with nine errors to seven aces. Cowell, who didn’t commit a hitting error in 18 swings, had three aces and senior middle Patrick Gasman had two.
The Warriors won the block battle (8-5) and dig battle (24-20). It was the first time since 2006 that Hawaii won both at Stanford.
Parapunov continued his climb of the career kill list and is 54 shy of becoming the 18th Warrior to reach 1,000. Gasman, in on two blocks Saturday, is 12 away from tying Taylor Averill and Matt Rawson for No. 4 (406).
Junior opposite Jaylen Jasper, son of former Warrior quarterback Ivan, led Stanford (5-7) with 10 kills.
Hawaii has a bye week and next will host Nittaidai of Japan in two exhibitions Feb. 26 and 28. The Warriors will then host No. 2 Brigham Young (13-0), the only other undefeated team, in non conference matches March 5-6.

I just tuned in to the video livestream. They’re in pre-game warmups.

Heads up: Single camera setup again. Probably no audio, too. The view, however, is opposite from yesterday. The scorer’s table is at the bottom below our viewing area. That means if there’s an electronic scoreboard on the table, we won’t be able to see it. Shucks! And the video will most likely be delayed significantly again from the CBS Sports Hawaii audio feed and live stats. Oh well…

    Go Rainbow Warriors!

  2. UHVoice97 February 15, 2020 3:40 pm

Nice to see Shea Suzumoto made the travel roster on this trip.

  3. Seenya Citizen February 15, 2020 3:53 pm

How do I watch it online? I pressed click here which took me to the Pac 12 site but nothing after that. Is it because I have Spectrum?

  4. Kaimukian February 15, 2020 4:06 pm

Yeah I just get a black screen on the link. Do I have to have pac12 networks on my spectrum package to work?

  5. UHVoice97 February 15, 2020 4:19 pm

3., 4. You should both be ok. My ISP is Spectrum.

    Link in the article is:

If your browser has enhanced tracking protection, try turning it off. Also check to see if any of your browser’s extensions are blocking the livestream.

Is it just me or isn’t there a rule about both teams’ primary jersey color has to be different? Both teams are white? I thought one team had to be a completely different color, as is true for the libero for each team…

  7. Harvey February 15, 2020 4:31 pm

Sigh….tonight, for sure now, no score to see where the game is. It’s like you don’t dare to go the kitchen for popcorn…

    Auwe!

  8. UHVoice97 February 15, 2020 4:38 pm

    7. LOL… Hey Harvey, try turning on live stats in another tab. It’ll be ahead of the video, but at least you’ll get the running score.

  9. Harvey February 15, 2020 4:43 pm

    8. I don’t like to know what’s coming ahead of the play on video.

I’ve found a solution…. tell my 13 year old daughter to microwave me some popcorn and bring it to the living room.

  10. Cindy Luis February 15, 2020 5:07 pm

    3. people, again, this has nothing to do with Spectrum. This is a live online stream via Stanford.

  11. Harvey February 15, 2020 5:18 pm

Oh well, I just lost the feed. I’ll just read the recap later.

UC San Diego at UC Irvine update
    Set 1: UCSD – 25, UCI – 20

  13. HK February 15, 2020 5:47 pm

What I did was click the * on the upper top of the stream and logged out of Spectrum. That leaves Spectrum out of the site. Sorry so late but that’s what I did and it worked.

    Colton Cowell for NPOW!

This road trip has confirmed one thing. Stanford is once again NOT the real deal this year. I’m shocked and disappointed, they have the talent capable of beating any team in the country. I know their Senior Setter is injured, but still they have Jasper, the No. 1 recruit from two years ago! No way they should be manhandled like this at home.

Good job to Hawaii though. A win on the road is good for team chemistry. But I’m now starting to worry that this is going to do more bad than good for RPI…. :/

  16. vbfan4ife February 15, 2020 7:08 pm

Rado looks like he tweaked his right ankle last set and was limping after. Good news is he was able to bear weight on it.

    11. Recapped from our breaking news in main box.
    14. UCSD upsets UCI in Irvine, 25-20, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-12
    15. Hawaii’s RPI is just fine.
    16. We had a reporter at the game. He said Parapunov told him he will be fine.

  18. jmy February 15, 2020 8:10 pm

I guess that does it for Colton…shucks!

  19. Hi5Ho February 15, 2020 8:14 pm

Looks like the match is on youtube if anyone didn’t get to watch it. Glad to hear that Rado will be ok.

    18. what do you mean? that someone from UCSD will win NPOW? could be someone from Quincy. first MIVA win in a couple of years.

    from vinnie lopes, OTB
It was only fitting that outside attacker Kyle McCauley would have the match-winning kill in a decisive fifth game to secure No. 14 UC San Diego’s milestone victory.
McCauley finished with a match-high 24 kills on a .333 attack percentage as UC San Diego upset No. 5 UC Irvine 25-20, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-12 on Saturday in Irvine for the program’s first conference win since joining the Big West in 2018.
The Tritons with this victory in their Big West opener ended a 27-match conference losing streak that dated back to 2017 when they were still a member of the MPSF. It is also their first victory against the Anteaters since 2011 — snapping a 19-match losing streak in the series.
McCauley in the fifth game led UC San Diego (11-3, 1-0 Big West) with a game-high four kills and added an ace and a block. In addition, the junior transfer had back-to-back kills with the score tied 4-4 to give the Tritons a lead that they would not relinquish.
Along with his offensive performance, McCauley had 10 digs and was one of two UC San Diego players with double-digit digs. Setter Connor Walbrecht led all players with a career-high 20 digs in the upset that extended the Tritons’ winning streak to four matches.
UC Irvine (7-5, 0-1 Big West) despite the loss out-hit UC San Diego .242 to .178 and ended with 14 blocks — eight more blocks than the Tritons.
All-American middle attacker Scott Stadick led the Anteaters defensively with nine blocks, while outside attacker JB Kam contributed seven blocks and nine digs.
All-American outside attacker Joel Schneidmiller in the loss also had a team-high 21 kills and hit .432. Opposite Alexandre Nsakanda added 12 kills but was limited to a .146 attack percentage.
This is the fifth nationally ranked team that UC San Diego has defeated this season and the second time it has upset a top-five ranked team. UC San Diego swept then-No. 3 UCLA in the opening week of the season.

  22. noblesol February 16, 2020 9:13 am

I’ve been following UCSD this year. McCauley is likely 1st team BigWest, possibly All American good. Their starting six can hang with anyone. They are good, only lacking some depth, and experience in winning big matches. Reading the blogs, UCI was leery of this match going in. I don’t think their coaches were stunned to find themselves in a dogfight with UCSD, but maybe some of their fans and and players might have been. I don’t think UCSD is done upsetting apple carts this season. Hawai’i fans be aware.

  23. Cindy Luis February 17, 2020 8:39 am

    22. have been saying from the beginning of the season that UCSD was much improved. Now that they can offer more than a $500 stipend to men’s volleyball players I think you’ll see even more improvement over the next few years.
