Stanford (5-6) battled back to 23-22. The Warriors used a Cardinal service error and their eighth block of the night to finish it off.
It was Hawaii’s first victory at Maples Pavilion since 2012, snapping a four-match skid at Stanford, and was the Warriors’ 13th nonconference road victory dating to 2018.
It also was Hawaii’s sixth consecutive sweep of the season, and 11th of the year. The Warriors only have dropped two sets, one each in the 3-1 victories at Lewis and Loyola.
Junior opposite Jaylen Jasper, son of former Warrior quarterback Ivan, had a team-high 10 kills for Stanford (5-6).
The teams meet again Saturday at 4 p.m. Hawaii time.
The Warriors struggled at the service line, committing 15 errors to three aces. Hawaii hit an impressive .458 to Stanford’s .179 and out blocked the Cardinal, 8.5-5.

Just wanted to mention that the streaming video that I saw of Stanford’s matches with UCSB and Pepperdine were streamed without sound or score, and that the delay between the live stats and video was more than two minutes. For the Pepperdine match, I was still watching the end of the second set, while the live stats was displaying a 5 point tie in the third set.
Just want to give a heads up as to what you can expect from the stream.
1. Stanford isn’t Slippery Rock University. You’d think their bidding Sportscasters, coupled with a well-funded video department, could put a good web broadcast together.
* budding sportscasters…
Sorry, all. As you get older, the keyboard seems smaller. Sigh. Hint: Don’t get old. You won’t like it. Take it from me.
1. thanks. i tend not to watch the stream when I’m in the office. rely more on live stats.
2 you would think. but the Stanford coach told me that if you go down into certain parts of the coaches office, there is no cell phone service. He had to walk out to talk to me.
4. Cindy, that’s amazing. I work in this field. Stanford is rich enough to pay for its own dedicated fiber line to campus. I’d guess that they’re being cheap and hoping the carrier(s) deploy.
I hate to hear that. They have enough endowment money to fix the problem themselves to the benefit of the students. I’m never sending my daughter there.
Hi Cindy, do I need to subscribe to the Pac12 network with Spectrum inorder to watch online? Thanks
2. Agree. Surprised that their stream was very basic.
6. Use the link on this blog post (above). It says “Watch online here.”
They’re warming up and the video quality is good. Lack of audio discerning. Feed hangs every couple of minutes requiring a reboot. Problem not on my end, I’m in the DC area with Verizon Fios fiber to the home.
6. not that i’m aware of. hasn’t been a problem with away matches
I guess from Oahu I need to subscribe to Pac12 network from Spectrum.
“Authentication required
Your TV Provider sign in was successful, but your TV package does not include access to this Pac-12 Networks content.
Please contact your TV Provider for more.”
I can’t get the live stream AND I can’t hear Tiff Wells call the game, not a good night tonight.
10. HK, do NOT get your stream via your tv. use your internet browser and click “Watch online click here” near the top of the tv.
Dang, the video is so far behind that it doesn’t synch to the radio broadcast or live stats.
Worse, without audio or livestat synch or the video pointing to the scoreboard every once in a while, you don’t know what the dang score is.
My dog just jumped on my lap and was rolling around. I turn my attention back to the screen, the guys are playing, but who knows the score.
Dang!
*click “Watch online click here” near the top of the this page.
11. Tiff Wells not at match. Dave Kawada doing play-by-play.
Stanford does not synch Hawaii radio.
12 Harvey I was doing that all this time using my phone. Guess I can’t watch. Thanks
Cindy, you should check out the stream for a couple of minutes. The video quality is good. but without any ability to know what the score is on the stream, it’s as if you just happened to walk past a buncha tall guys playing volleyball amongst themselves for the sake of it.
Surreal.
HK, sorry dude. I’m watch on an iPad on my home network near DC (Verizon Fios). To check, I fired up my phone, and it played will (Sprint Wireless)
Maybe it’s blacked out in Hawai’i. If it is, and you have VPN, set your VPN location to anywhere on the East Coast. That might work.
It isn’t blacked out in Hawaii. This has nothing to do with Spectrum. This is a online video stream provided by Stanford
Thanks Cindy, click link, hit * to logout of Spectrum and now it works. 😀
The live stream just started working for me on Chrome. It’s 20-16, but set 2 has been over for a while now.
I am watching it on my laptop. ISP: Spectrum. Listening to audio stream on CBSSportsHawaii.com. Following action on LiveStats.
Someone should let Dave know Stanford’s head coach’s name is John Kosty. He keeps saying Jeff.
Harvey: I just noticed the digital sign at courtside behind the down official shows the score.
22. Just noticed that too. lol…
Good match for the Bows. in that first set, there was a play that was a one handed save for Colton, Shewie, and Voss to save the ball that led to the Bows eventually wining the point. In the second set, Humler was blocked, but the ball was saved because the block ricocheted off his head and onto the other side of the net. And in that final set, Rado and some great blocks on Jaylen Jasper. There were shades of the UC Irvine third set when the Bows lost four points in a row. Luckily they pulled it out after the time out.
Humler had a really good match hitting, and Voss had a really good blocking match. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s rematch. Hopefully they have the scores somewhere visible, even though it’s going to be a different gym.
Nice match, good win, Humler having a good stretch. But starting to see an annoying team tendency to give up a big lead at end of set and let opponents back into the game. Also, a tendency to take their foot off the serving gas when they lead in sets, start trading points, and giving the opponent opportunities to regain momentum and go on runs.
No big complaints about the video stream. It could have been better, but wasn’t bad. It was HD quality. It wasn’t synced w/live stats, but that rarely happens anyway. The camera didn’t pan to follow the server, but it covered the whole court from a nice mid-court angle and distance, and only a little of the action outside of the court end lines was missed. The score was always big and easy to see on the press row sign. There was no sound, but will frequently mute anyway unless the announcing is knowledgeable and entertaining, which is rare away from the Hawai’i and BYU broadcasts.

25. as in most cases of single camera. it is stationary and doesn’t pan, or zoom in and out.
