Hawaii volleyball: Emily Hartong returns as AVP pro
Former Hawaii volleyball great Emily Hartong is back in town this week competing on the AVP Tour.
Hartong, an AVCA All-American and a two-time Big West player of the year, granted a video interview with Hawaii Warrior World’s Cindy Luis on Tuesday at a practice at Queen’s Beach.
She will compete in a qualifier Thursday to advance into the main draw of the AVP’s Hawaii Open, with competition through Sunday at Fort DeRussy.
Hartong was eighth all-time in UH indoor kills at 1,494 at a time bridging the program’s years in the WAC and Big West (2011-14). She also played on the inaugural UH beach volleyball (then called sand volleyball) team in 2012. She went a team-best 23-9 with partner Elizabeth Stoltzman that year.
She recently won gold at a NORCECA tour event in the Dominican Republic.

I still remember her senior year, the 2nd round NCAA match @ Washington. They pretty much dominated that match with even match point but ran out of steam at the end.
2. That was her junior year. Her senior year the team got beaten, really badly by BYU at home.
2.
Oh right. I was at that match. That was depressing…
Hartong was a converted MB; Shoji needed more OHs so he moved her outside.
The BYU debacle: Girls did not get along and the coaches did not notice.
Nebraska vs Stanford tied 1 set each. Channel 1248. Lexi Sun looks alot stronger this year.
