Hawaii women’s volleyball: Wahine 1 day out

Think this is going to be a fun season. Very much looking forward to covering this team and getting to know the players.

There’s a couple of things out there that might be of interest that aren’t part of Volleyshots
Our Brian McInnis did a very nice story on Brooke Van Sickle.

There’s a Five Things to Watch extra for this weekend.

ESPN Honolulu’s Tiff Wells (full disclosure, he is my son) had a sit-down with Robyn Ah Mow that has just been posted.

UPDATE: Here’s a couple of video interviews with hitter Jolie Rasmussen and setter Norene Iosia from Thursday’s practice.

Congratulations to your son! Maybe the best video interview of Robyn since she’s been here.

Enjoyed the video interview by your son with RAM for ESPN Honolulu. It sheds a lot of light into the thinking process of RAM and the staff. Was really encouraged about what she said about the development of Kirsten Sibley.

Said hello to your son once in Santa Barbara while he was setting up to do the radio broadcasting of wahine volleyball match from the Thunder dome. He stopped what he was doing and took time out to say hello. We were impressed – very cordial, easy going, and respectful (that means we are old people). He did you proud.

    Go Wahine!!
So nice to see the team coverage from you, Cindy, and Tiff and Brian.
Feel like this is the first time we were able to hear from Robyn in depth. Would love to hear from Kaleo and Angelica, too. Or better yet, a round table discussion with all three to better understand how they work together and why they make a strong team of their own. Mahalo!!

We not only got to know Coach Rob more but, to me, it also shows how difficult it is to recruit financially. Lots of commentators wanted to know why we can’t recruit more here and there and we are bound financially.
Robyn appreciates. I was happy to see her smiling and excited about the season. You, too, Cindy. I am glad I am not the only excited fan. I was wondering why and I now know that this team is special.

Enjoyed the video interview with Robyn. Good work. Nice to hear her mention the turnaround for “Sib” (Kirsten Sibley). I’ve been waiting for her break-out season. Maybe this year. Also except same from McKenna Ross. Go Wahine !!!

This is getting to be too much…LOL! I haven’t seen this much great coverage about everything in a while and I’m acting like a sponge wanting more! Amazing interview by your son of Robyn! Agree with Tongo, he did you proud!! Also agree with H-man, glad to hear about Sib finally playing to her potential. She had always been in the background, it’s time for her to shine as well!
GO BOWS! Can’t wait for this weekend!

I can see why Robyn will have a hard time to decide on a starting lineup. She has so many talented players. My guess is that she will vary her lineup just as Karch Kiraly did with the USA women’s team in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) back in June. It took about five weeks until he settled on the ideal lineup to win the entire VNL championship.

The interview by Tiff gave good insights into Robyn and about the team.

Thanks for the Wahine VB Special Edition in the Star Advertiser. I like it.

Friday afternoon comment: Cal Poly lost to Kentucky 3-0 and is now playing St. Mary’s having won the first set. So far, Torrey van Winden hasn’t played. Middle blockers are hitting more than twice the average rate of all the other hitters. None of the hitters are as productive as Adlee van Winden was last season. They all seem weak. With this current Cal Poly roster, Hawaii will be able to beat Cal Poly twice in regular season. Definitely Cal Poly is overrated and I’m saying this as an alumnae of Cal Poly.

Actually St. Mary’s won the first two sets. There had been an error in the scoreboard. Again, it’s mainly the middle blockers carrying the Cal Poly team. The second set was the closest, but still, Cal Poly hasn’t won a set so far.

    Thanks for all the comments.
I think video makes a difference. I can write what is said but can’t get the inflections that video can give.
It should be a fun season.
