Hawaii men’s volleyball: Patrick Gasman named No. 2 blocker at NORCECA Cup

Hawaii senior middle Patrick Gasman was named the second-best blocker when helping the U.S. to a silver medal at the NORCECA Champions Cup men’s volleyball tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Gasman had eight kills in Saturday’s 28-26, 25-20, 27-29, 26-24 loss to Canada. He led the U.S. in kills with 11 in Friday’s 3-1 loss to Cuba with one block.

The U.S. assistant coach was Spencer McLachlin (Punahou).


In the women’s tournament, former Hawaii All-American Emily Maglio had eight kills, two blocks and an ace in Canada’s 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 victory over Puerto Rico. Canada (1-2) earned the bronze medal finishing behind the U.S. (3-0) and the Dominican Republic (2-1).

    I’m now excited about the Gasman/Guliherme MB combination. Could be as exciting a MB combo we ever had.

    If you look closely, it looks like Pat is cutting down weight. He was already just fine the way he was, but can you imagine a leaner, quicker version of himself? We’ve already seen James Anastassiades’s off-season transformation. Either way, way to go on your international accolades, Pat!

    2. Gasman was doing the Keto diet for a while
    saw anastassiades yesterday. Thought he had dropped more weight. he said he actually had gained some. but laughed about being more ‘buff.’
    Also saw Parapunov yesterday. He said he had fun playing in the VNL.
