Warrior Beat: Alema Kapoi completes transfer from Navy to Hawaii football
It felt like ol’ times for defensive lineman Alema Kapoi.
“It’s good to be out here,” said Kapoi, who transferred from Navy and joined the Warriors on Tuesday. “I haven’t been in pads since Army-Navy all the way back in December.”
Kapoi is a 2016 Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate. As a senior, he was named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team.
He attended Navy’s prep academy for a year, delaying the start of his NCAA eligibility clock until the 2017 season. He played in all 12 games in 2018. In February, he announced he was transferring to UH.
UH lists Kapoi as 6 feet and 270 pounds. He is capable of playing defensive end, 3-technique and nose tackle in the Warriors’ 4-2-5 defense.
OF his move, Kapoi said: “It’s paid off so far. I like being here. I wake up every day feeling blessed that I’m home. I’m super appreciative of the team for welcoming me back home.”
Kapoi’s brother is Micah Kapoi, a former Wisconsin lineman, and his cousin is Max Holloway.
Great news ST;
welcome Alema Kapoi!
Hope he can further boost our defense!

Is he eligible to play right away?
Dude has some biceps.
Was just going to mention that H-Man. In fact Alema doesn’t look he carries any extra weight. He looks really fit for a lineman. Maybe playing at the Academy has something to do with that.
IF IT DONT WORK IN HAWAII WE CAN FIND YOU A SPOT IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY–FRESNO STATE RUUFF RUUFF!!
Welcome home, Alema. Although sad we didn’t get your commitment out of high school, I super stoked you’re on the team now. Go Warriors!
Alema must have got DPKs super special secret anaconda workout…
My name doesn’t belong in the same comment as young Alema’s.
Gotta admit he is yoked and stoked, AND he IS a Warrior twice over! Some great bloodlines too!
Warriors all! All Warriors! GO WARRIORS!!!
is it true that hawaii is going retro uni in the tomey bowl?
If i heard right, no retro uniforms because they cost too much, $50,000, unless someone donates that amount.
I don’t think he’s eligible right away. But ya never know. A request has been made.
Tanx Tsai you da man!

A few days ago, a bunch of Under Armor teams unveiled throwbacks, so I was hopeful that UH would get some too. Then I saw throwback jerseys (not the previous ones they had) for sale on Hzone. I tried posting the link, but their website is always down.
Then I saw this article today…UH isn’t included here.

But hey, who knows?
Billy Ray Stutzmann as an Offensive Asst is adding run n shoot concepts to Navy’s offense. Ken is overhauling his offense and defensive systems.
(Capitol Gazette Aug 15, 2019)
Anyone else not able to see the comments? Just blank spaces, numerals, and links.
I love Billy Ray but I think someone is blowing smoke up someone’s rear end. In recent years, Navy doesn’t pass much because they don’t have QBs who can throw, but Kenny and Ivin do know how to pass out of the triple option cause that’s the kind of offense they played under. So if Kenny wanted to incorporate some run and shoot in his triple option, he hires someone who was an intern at Hawaii rather than talking to the masters like Mouse and June? Doesn’t make any sense.
wafan…yes, I get that too.
Wafan, on occasion, me too.
18.
“I’ve learned more about the passing game from this guy in the eight months he’s been here than the entire 34 years I’ve been in college football,” Niumatalolo admitted.
” When Stutzmann was a wide receiver at Hawaii, Davis was his position coach while the Lee brothers were also on the staff .”

Congrats to Mikahael Waters, hired last month as TE Coach at Maine.
#21 – of course he’s going to say good things about his new hire. And if Kenny is sincere in his statement, that’s his bad for not learning earlier. He and Ivin learned this offense from Paul Johnson and their version should evolve over time. Just like how June’s offense evolved from what he learned from Mouse, and Rolo’s version will evolve too.
25. …Maybe Paul’s offense didn’t evolve enough, so he retired after last season. Billy Ray learned from Mouse, Rolovich. Craig.
So I guess now we double down on 16 when the dealer is showing a 6.
Johnson’s evolution or lack thereof, and Billy Ray’s presence have nothing to do with Kenny’s and Ivin’s evolution, or otherwise lack thereof during their own coaching careers.
27 … Ken and Ivan needed help badly so they hired Billy Ray. Their triple option was not enough just as Paul J found out.
We have to see how it comes out.
