Hawaii volleyball: Cowell, J. Worsley, Fey on Pan Am Games roster; Wahine match with UCI changed
A quarter of the U.S. men’s team will be comprised of two former and one current Rainbow Warrior at the Pan American Games in Peru this coming week.
Named to the 12-man roster are Kupono Fey (Hawaii 2014-17), who played outside but is the libero; All-America setter Joe Worsley (2016-19) and OH Colton Cowell (entering his redshirt senior season). The same three were on the U.S.’s Pan American Cup team in Mexico in June.
Cowell is the only collegiate player on the roster.
The head coach is UH assistant Milan Zarkovic who coached Cowell, Worsley and Fey at the recent Pan Am Cup.
Also on the roster are James Shaw, Stanford 2013-16 (a setter now listed as an opposite) and setter Josh Tuaniga, Long Beach State 2016-19
Also at opposite is Kyle Ensing, Long Beach State 2016-19.
Other OH’s: Sam Holt, CSUN 2012-15; Brenden Sander, BYU 2015-18; David Wieczorek, Pepperdine 2016-19.
Middles: Tommy Carmody, Pacific 2012-14, Pepperdine 2016; Price Jarman, BYU 2014-18; Brendan Schmidt, McKendree 2014-18
Competition is Tuesday, July 30, through Aug. 11.
The U.S. plays Chile in its pool-play opener on Wednesday. Also in the pool are Mexico and Brazil.

As for the Wahine, the home match with UC Irvine has moved from Thursday, Oct. 3, to Friday, Oct. 4. It is apparently because the Los Angeles Clippers desired a trade of dates for their preseason exhibition against the Houston Rockets at the Stan Sheriff Center from the 4th to the 3rd.
The match with Cal State Fullerton remains on Saturday the 5th
Milan is also there as well, id assume he is head coach again
Awesome for Colton to be the only current collegiate player on the team. The dude is going to play a bigger role this coming season with all his international experience.
If Colton can raise his level and our incoming freshmen live up to their hype, we should be tough to handle again.
Wahine is first up but is very looking forward to the men’s season also.
Why has our big middle Pat Gasman not making any of the National teams this summer. He had a dominant year.
Ive seen Patrickt around town this summer, so I’m wondering if he just has chosen not to play v ball anymore, which I could be completely wrong or he has been trying but not being placed on teams. Also Rosey has stayed in Hawaii this summer too, I think he told me he was tying up loose ends before leaving at end of summer?
3. Not every player wants to play for the National team, and I am not sure if he has plans for playing volleyball professionally after graduation. I think he may be working (possibly an internship) for his future career. Gage was also the only Libero to make all-American first team, and he could’ve probably played for some of the national teams, but he has other plans this summer.
4. He may not be trying out for those teams, but that doesn’t mean he is just not playing volleyball anymore. He will be back next season.
Pat might be worn out from the season and maybe he wants to recover before having a stellar senior season. I don’t think playing Vball year round is something every volleyball players want to do.
Some don’t mind it but others may prefer to do other things.
Pat will have his chance to show his stuff or try out for the Pan American team after his senior season. Maybe now, he is working and pursuing other things in life.
No worries….Pat will not give up volleyball. If he wanted to leave the game, he could have done it last year and let the fans honor him. Playing your senior season and

The U.S. is stack with middles, which is part of why Averill is the odd man out on the senior national team.

Also had 7 blocks, 5 kills and 1 SA in the 3-1 final on Saturday, July 27, over Russia for the bronze.

Warrior commit helps Brazil to bronze
Incoming Hawaii freshman middle Guilherme Voss Messias Dos Santos had a match-high seven blocks as Brazil swept Russia 25-21, 27-25, 25-12 for the bronze medal at the FIVB U21 World Championship on Saturday in Bahrain.
The 6-foot-5 Dos Santos also hit 1.000 while putting down five kills and added an ace. He led the tournament with a 0.88 blocks per set average and finished hitting .651.
Noticed that Iran won the U21 Championship. They should concentrate on these types of events instead of making trouble so to speak.
