Hawaii men’s basketball: Noah Allen makes Wizards’ NBA Summer League roster
Former Hawaii men’s basketball forward Noah Allen has another opportunity to impress in NBA circles.
Allen, who was drafted by and spent last year with the Washington Wizards’ G League outfit, the Capital City Go-Go, received an invitation to play for the Wizards’ NBA Summer League squad in Las Vegas beginning Saturday.
“I’m just excited and blessed for the opportunity and hope to make the most of it,” Allen messaged Hawaii Warrior World on Wednesday.
Allen averaged 26.4 minutes in 42 of a possible 50 games for the Go-Go in 2018-19, averaging 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He shot 51.1 percent on 2-pointers and 30.1 percent on 3-pointers. Perhaps a little surprisingly for those who watched him during his season at UH, he shot nearly as many 3s as 2s.
Allen had some strong games as a member of the Go-Go, including when he recorded a triple-double against the Erie BayHawks:
Of his experience in the G League, he messaged: “It was a great experience, I was hoping to get better and I think that happened for me both physically and mentally.”
The Wizards’ summer roster features the club’s recent draftees, first-rounder Rui Hachimura (Gonzaga) and second-rounder Admiral Schofield (Tennessee).
Allen, 24, is the third-oldest player on the roster, behind former Kansas center Jeff Withey and former West Virginia guard Tarik Phillip.
The Wizards will play four games in the preliminary round (July 6-11) among all 30 NBA teams and attempt to qualify for an eight-team playoff. Barring that, they get one consolation game. The Wizards’ first game is 4 p.m. (HST) on Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans, who feature No. 1 draft pick Zion Williamson. The game will be televised on ESPN.
Awesome for Noah Allen! Boy, wish we had a player like him on our current roster. We’d have a good chance at competing for a conference title if he still had eligibility! Regardless, congrats to him and hope to see him get some PT on Saturday.
