Hawaii football: Borden earns tryout with Oakland Raiders

Former UH long-snapper Noah Borden has received an invitation to participate in a tryout with the Oakland Raiders.
Borden departs Sunday, with the workout scheduled for Monday.
Borden, a Kamehameha Schools graduate who grew up in Pearl City, was a reliable long-snapper for the Warriors. After returning from a church mission, Borden made 319 snaps without an error in four seasons for the Warriors.
He was nearly as perfect in the classroom, with a 3.8 GPA. He was named to CoSIDA’s 2018 Academic All-District 8 team.
He also was selected by teammates as a UH co-captain in 2018, his senior season.

In Hawaii, it is all about Food, Family & Friends.
Add drinks and UH Football and turn on the lights and you have the makings of a happening event.

NorthShoreFan — I’m guessing any gain in attendance would not be a significant loss for PPV. But it would be a significant gain to UH’s ticket sales piggybank…probably more than any possible lowered PPV payout.
Kapahulu — since it is one of my pet peeves and favorite rant, I’ll repost from the last blog entry:
papajoe2 — I have long advocated a 7:30 pm start time for UH home games, like in the 1970’s and 1980’s. There was a carnival-like atmosphere when you entered under the lights of the stadium. Real carnivals have more people when it’s dark too.
We used to tailgate and eat dinner at a more usual hour back then too. I once asked Coach McMackin about a later start time and he replied he would start the game at midnight if he could get away with it… put the opposing team further out of time sync. Home field advantage of distance and time zones.
The game time was allegedly moved earlier so that the opposing conference teams could catch their commercial flights back home after the game. Now we are taking an attendance hit and paying for their private jets back home. 👿
The disadvantage of a later start is that Aloha Stadium would want to have a half-day+ swap meet to increase revenue… but nowadays with the lagging attendance that could be a win-win situation.
As a former long snapper in high school (I admit 3 flubs, albeit 2 in heavy rain and you are on an island of embarrassment with your team), this is an incredible accomplishment to not make an error in four years and he deserves the opportunity.
When the UH-Army game ends at 11:25 because the kickoff was delayed because of the extended length of the preceding BYU game … and BIlly V goes on and on and on … and Senior Night ends sometime around Sunday morning, I get to say: Hah, I told you 7:30 kickoffs are stupid.
Move senior festivities to before the game. Or would that mess with game time psyche?

The 7:30 game ending time might not make the newspaper print deadline.

Busted. Yep. It’s worse for basketball when they start at 8 pm and the deadline is 10:10.
7 or 7:30 start time for UH football caused havoc with our late bed time on Sunday mornings around 1:30 am — worst yet if I had to go to all day Army Reserve training on Sunday — 7 am to 4 pm!
i do not believe moving the start time backward will make a significant difference in attendance — too many faithful fans in the 60’s and 70’s have departed or are in their late 70’s and beyond and they were NOT replaced by new, younger fans — also, the food inside the stadium ‘sucks”!!! — stadium parking is now RESERVED PARKING ONLY ( upper lot ) — entry is like going through TSA at the airports — team performance was, IMHO, the 2nd largest factor in small attendance — numbers in the 70’s, even for sold out games, measured only .05% of our total population, etc. etc. etc.

A later start means a more complete digestive cycle can be accomplished away from home; which is kinda important as the years go by! 😯
