Hawaii basketball, football camps in June
Camp season begins this month, starting with tonight’s 808 Passing Academy event at Aloha Stadium.
Former UH quarterback Sean Schroeder is picking up the tab for the free camp for high school-aged students interested in developing passing/receiving skills. Vinny Passas — who coached Marcus Mariota, Tua Tagovailoa and Chevan Cordeiro — and Greg Salas, UH’s career receiving leader — are among the guest coaches.
Schroeder said about 100 students have registered.

MBB recruiting news?
Crickets * Crickets
Program has gone dark.
Mahalo Sean Schroeder for putting on such a great camp! Good stuff there for the young’uns!
Fort!
MBB program has not gone dark…. I think we should appreciate the “clean-ness” of the way this program has been run up to this point as “vanilla” as it may be. At least UH didn’t sell its soul like CSUN’s MBB did. I feel like this is the right way to do this. Carefully. I would hate for Ganot to do something out of character just to placate the impatient. The Big West is up for grabs, everybody can see that. It is an “arms race” for sure as far as talent goes. But the race doesn’t need to be a “sprint”.
The major focus right now should be on “summer development” programs. I feel like potential recruits will seek out UH once they can imagine the way they would “fit in” and contribute into a structure that has real promise when you look at the pieces. The pieces just need to be realized. The “big picture” is visible. You can see it. Just missing one more athletic med/big. Its a process. So fortunate to have a “clean” program in this day and age. Lucky.
Men’s basketball season ticket renewals were sent out this week. Why would anyone renew right now? Horrible recent seasons, zilch recruiting, and not much to get excited about with returning players. Is anybody in charge up there?
Agree with turfwar (#6) … plus no schedule provided. Mentioned in the the DHC field, but that was all.
Mahalos to Mr. Schroeder for giving back to the local community. He’s someone who has certainly stepped up to the plate.
Men’s basketball. What Men’s basketball?
#6 and #7
I get that Season Renewals will be a tough sell right now. That is all Ganot’s fault. I don’t think he’s much of a salesman. Maybe he’s not much of a “liar”? Not like Gib Arnold I guess. But there is a big picture that to me, is visible with the combination of skillsets across the roster. All has to do with size. Every position can mix and match different sizes and/or shapes for different matchups. Way better (“size-wise”) than last year. Just need to get a little more athletic now, but still got three spots left. The “fit” is critical so please do it right. The “Blueprint” is the 2015-16 squad. I think this is the right track.
I think (my opinion) if Ganot got that Greek kid that he brought to the Volleyball game but didn’t get Madut there would be more urgency and panic to find immediate “workable” pieces. Then the “picture” would be less clear, especially if you need to depend heavily on Villa. Luckily he got Madut. Watch his video and try to see how his athleticism compliments the existing guys. Anybody can throw up “anykine” shooting wise, but this guy wont. He’ll just need to get to the rim occasionally (with or without the ball) when the opportunity presents itself. Ganot will figure the rest out. And he gotta make two or three reliable press breaks for
his back pocket before the start of the season. And get that “rim runner” soon. Can do.
It’s pretty pathetic how awful our basketball coaches have done recruiting. No pride

Looks like it’s star time for Codie Paiva tomorrow.
Loyola Marymount hasn’t been to the tournament since 2000.
Does anybody know if Paiva was recruited by UH?
Campbell has a shot of making the Super Regionals. How bizarre would it be if LMU faces the Fighting Camels in the College World Series?
Big West baseball is turning into Big West basketball. UC-Santa Barbara’s loss to Sacramento State was hard to take.
Maybe they are holding the basketball camps to hopefully recruit a few players?
Mahalo to Schroeder for putting on a free camp open to all. Great access to quality coaching. Every kid in Hawaii should be there. MBB is losing all the momentum that it had going for them after the NCAA tourney run.
Sean Schroeder is one of the most unappreciated UH QB’s of all time. Unfortunately he played during chow ball. Dude was tough as nails hanging in the pocket and taking some huge hits while playing in a archaic offense. Kudos to him for continuing to give back to Hawaii.
Schroeder was awesome. Maximized his abilities. Good role model for kids to follow.
After suffering through Nash and Arnold, I don’t think there’s anything to panic about with Ganot. If they land a good transfer from the portal, we’ll be fine for next season.
I’m with Aaron, although I will say Ganot has proven to be a conservative “character guy”, given the nature of basketball, we just need on over the top player, to take us to the next level.
thank you Sean for your continued support of Hawaii’s youngsters to achieve their dream be it with UH or another school — bumbucha mahalo!

Indianapolis signs punter Sanchez to contract extension
– 48 minutes ago
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have signed punter Rigoberto Sanchez to a contract extension.
Terms were not announced Tuesday. Sanchez won the job two years ago after signing as an undrafted rookie.
He beat out Jeff Locke, whom the Colts signed as an unrestricted free agent following the 2016 season, and went on to set an NFL rookie record with a 42.6-yard net average on 84 punts.
Last season, he averaged 46.1 yards on 57 punts and finished with a net average of 42.7 yards.
Sanchez also has served as Indy’s kickoff specialist the past two seasons. He could have become a free agent following this season.
old news from May 30, but still GOOD news …
Here are our observations from Day 5 of OTAs:
Jahlani Tavai getting some first-team work
In “base” formations, it was still Devon Kennard, Jarrad Davis and Christian Jones working with the first team, but in positional drills and certain subpackages, we saw—for the first time publicly—Davis and second-round rookie Tavai working alongside each other. For the most part, it was still Davis patrolling the middle with Tavai on the outside, but Tavai was getting work all over the place, including his normal spot as the middle linebacker for the second team.
Dylan picked in Round 13, #389. Bonus = ?
