Men’s volleyball: 6 with Hawaii ties make U.S. roster for FIVB Volleyball Nations League
Cover of our VB special from Sunday
Congratulations to former Rainbow Warrior All-Americans Taylor Averill and Tui Tuileta, two of the six with Hawaii ties named to the 25-man roster for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
Also UH All-American opposite Rado Parapunov was named to Bulgaria’s 25-man NVL team.
Each week, coaches may choose 14 players from the 25-man roster to compete in the VNL preliminary matches as well as the final round.
Previous Olympians named were Micah Christenson (Kamehameha), Erik Shoji (Punahou) and Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani). Also selected was Micah Ma’a (Punahou).
The U.S. is hosting the VNL Final Round on July 10-14 in Chicago and therefore automatically qualifies.
Three players off Long Beach State’s NCAA team also selected in TJ DeFalco, Kyle Ensing and Josh Tuaniga.

Congrats to Tui & Taylor & the others.
Charlie said at the beginning of Tui’s UH career that he had National Team potential as a LIBERO, when everyone else was clamoring for Tui to be a hitter or concentrate on football.
So the US doesn’t play Bulgaria at all?
GO WARRIORS!
Congratulations Taylor & Tui and the other boys with Hawaii ties! GO BOWS!
Cindy,
An absolutely fantastic job on the special Sunday insert on the Men’s Volleyball team! It was certainly a wild ride and accolades are due to them indeed! I like what Joe said about how there were tears after the NCAA championship loss not due to the loss, but because the special experience was over. So, true, but next year should be just as exciting. It sure feels like it with the great returning people we have! GO WARRIORS!
2. Ditto!!!
People still talking about how special this team was. So likeable and will always be champions in my heart!!!
