Hanna Helvig makes it official.
From UH:
Robyn Ah Mow announced the final signing to round out the incoming freshman class. Hanna Hellvig a 6-2 outside hitter from Lidingö Stockholm, Sweden has signed a National Letter of Intent and is the newest member of the Rainbow Wahine.

Hellvig is a six-rotation player who comes to Hawaii with a lot of international experience. She will graduate from Ållebergs Gymnasium (Sweden’s national high school for volleyball) this spring. Hellvig has played 17 official matches with the Swedish Senior National team and 35 matches on the Junior National Team. Most recently, she helped lead the U19 team to the gold medal at the Northern European Championships (NEVZA). In 2017, Hellvig won the NEVZA silver medal on the U19 team, and in 2016 a bronze in U17 at the NEVZA. She was named to the NEVZA All-Tournament Team all three years.

Hellvig is also an accomplished beach and snow volleyball player. On the beach, most notably, she won the Swedish Beach Tour Tournament in Kalmar in 2018 while placing fifth at the Senior Swedish National Championships. Most recently, she won the Swedish Championship in snow volleyball.

“We are excited with all that Hanna will bring to our team,” Santos said. “Her volleyball IQ is off the charts and she possesses a solid skill set plus the height and physicality that we were looking for in pin hitters. We believe she will be a perfect fit for our team,” says Ah Mow.

Hellvig is the fifth player to matriculate to Hawaii from Sweden. Hellvig comes from a talented volleyball family. Both her parents played in the Sweden’s top division for many years. Her younger brother, Jonathan, won a Youth Olympic gold medal in 2018. Hellvig will current assistant coach and former Rainbow Wahine standout, Angelica Ljungqvist.
