Davone Bess
Big thanks to Davone Bess for appearing as our guest on the Warrior Beat Show.
And congrats to Al for winning the Bess-autographed Dolphins hat.

The Sept. 2 UH-USC game will be shown on ESPN.
Kickoff is at 5 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
UH has commissioned a poll to find out the preferred starting time for home kickoffs. Last year, WAC games started at 5 p.m. to allow visiting teams to make the redeye flights back to the Mainland. Some fans thought the start was too early. Reporters with lousy deadlines loved the 5 p.m.
When do you think the home games should start? I’d like to hear your views although, keep in my mind, my opinion outweighs yours (when it comes to deadline issues).

Last evening’s auction/dinner to support the UH baseball program went well. Lefty, Kazz, PowderPuff and Midori7 showed that it was all about food and fun:

WOW – looks like a good time was had by all.
TOP TEN Finally- but it done fromBangkok!
Aloha Davone,
How’s the family life treating you?
nice…er. pants girls.
hard to recognize what those dishes were?
are those warm up pants for tony maroney?
Davone,
At this point in your career is it best to take it one season at a time or are you also thinking about options for situations that are beyond your control like a coaching change, injuries, etc?
Al,
From top to bottom:
Spare ribs from Sergios.
Brownie with fudge and raspberry filling and ice cream from Roy’s
Rizzotto with shrimp from Roys.
Cus cus (sp?). Dunno from where as I didn’t try it.
Davone,
When your name is mentioned, the first thing that pops into my head is your trademark work ethic. From your days here at UH to your current career at Miami, the stories about you being the first to practice and the last to leave are synonomous with your name.
With your experience, do you feel that this kind of “work horse” mentality is something that can eventually be taught or is it more of something that certain people are already instilled with at an early age or they just have “IT”?
Davone,
Being a former student athlete at Hawaii, what would you change about the University of Hawaii in both an academic and athletic standpoint with the way these two aspects of the school are run?
ST- Great food pics from the fundraiser.
Kazz- Das some Big Balls you got there!
Powder Puff/Midori- I’m afraid to see what used to be in there before you two climbed in! Yikes!
Lefty- Good hook up!

Davone:
What do you see yourself doing in your post-playing days? Coaching and teaching? Sportscaster? Business owner? Politics? Non-profit executive? Sports agent? or ?????
I just don’t like that pic of Kazz holding his balls.
I don’t know why, but its creepy.
Just read Ferd’s column on Athetic Department finances as part of the larger issues facing the University System as well as the entire state.
What can we as citizens and “athletic supporters” do to help out? Let’s hear some of your thoughts.
Here’s mine – a $100 student activity fee per semester of which $50 would go to the Makai Campus and the balance for concerts, theatrical productions, and other Mauka Campus enrichment programs. Half of the Athletic Department’s allocation would go towards reducing the deficit and half would go towards underwriting current expenses.
Using the existing student base, that would generate about $3 million a year for debt reduction and current athletic expenses. UH Athletics could be debt-free within five years.
What say you? I look forward to reading your ideas.
Davone,
It would be great to see you and RGM together on the field in Miami. What do you think RGM’s chances are to make the Dolphins this year?
I remember that there was some debate here over whether or not the SEC or Big 10 made more in TV money, with someone posting the CBS Sportsline article from 2009 that showed that in 2008 the SEC made more.
http://new.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/12910849/expansion-would-boost-pac10-but-leave-wake-of-disruption
However, from that article the Big 10 made 102.8 million in TV revenue in 2008, and I pointed out that they made more in 2009 when they had more cable systems add them. This article published today shows that the Big 10 Network actually made nearly $250 million in TV revenue for the Big 10 in 2008. So, in a horrible year for the economy the Big 10’s TV revenue went from $102.8 million to $250 million.
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/84357987.html
This is why the Pac-10 wants to expand and create their own TV network…and why TV market size will be taken into account by the Pac-10.
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.
Davonne,
congragulations to you and your loved ones. thank you for giving back to Hawaii. your presence at the youth events inspires everybody, adults included.
Good morning, all!
Interesting photo of the Siamese Twins.
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Welcome home, Davone! Sorry I missed the chance to see you on Kauai! Thanks for sharing with the kids!
What goals have you set for yourself in the coming season?
Colt looks like he has bulked up. Hope our Raucsh is doing the same. Can’t have enough talent at QB if the past is any indication.
Thanks ST for the pic of Colt with the Prez.
Great Morning All!
Congratulations Davone on a terrific season!
What do you think about RGM’s chances are for the upcoming season?
Have a Terrific Mardi Gras erryboddy!
HiHo….
Good morning Tsai-kos! Happy Tuesday but feels like Monday.
Davone, how do like the South Florida area? After your NFL career is over, where would you like to put down roots?
😳
arerasu,
i had the same queasy feeling when i put the words ‘kazz’ and ‘holding balls’ in the same sentence….i just can’t put my finger on it, but it was ewwwwwwwww
Personally I can understand why people don’t want pictures taken of them or their property. A few of the reasons, it can spread on the internet to other forums quickly. It can lead to invading people’s privacy, raising questions, directing unneeded attention toward them and opening a can of worms (in some cases). In other words it can put them at risk. And make them vulnerable.
An example of this is Paipai’s picture of his hummer which was posted yesterday by the blog host. And subsequently has spurred debate on the WSN forums.
The essence of the debate doesn’t interests me.
But what does concern me, and I would imagine the UH athletic administrators would feel the same way, is that some pictures of athletes and or their property (cars) doesn’t insulate the person from risks of questions, privacy or security.
Put the shoe on the other foot. And think of what I’m saying is true.
28- didn’t bother me until an anonymous poster brought up the context and suggested negative connotations.
Anon- why not leave thar crap on other blogs and just be a participating Tsai-ko on this Ohana blog?
Hi Ho!
#28 anonymous Not questioning what your saying, but you could put a picture of Paipai standing next to a picture of Mother Teresa and it would spur debate on WSN, cause they just like that kind of board.
Davone,
I know you are a quiet guy, but you need to start telling the Dolphins that you need the ball more. Tell them that you should be in the wildcat formation. You were a quarterback so you can throw the ball if you have to.
Davone,
Can you please take the Dolphins to the Super Bowl. I haven’t watched a Super Bowl since 1984. I’ve been a Dolphins fan (because of my uncle) since I was born and I don’t watch the Super Bowl unless they are in it.
What happnens on WSN should stay on WSN.
Congrats to Davone for 2 fantastic seasons in a row!
Question:
I know you may want to keep your “cards” (options) close to your vest, but do you have any indications about the Dolphins making a bonafide offer to extend your stay in Miami, or are other teams already making overtures about where you’ll be after your final season??
Davone,
I know people like to compare you to Wes Welker, but I think you play more like Wayne Chrebet. I also think Chrebet was better. How do you think your style more closely relates?
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Ya guys got it all wrong about Kazz. Wuts most creepy is his expression. See the confidence there?
Davone-
You da man! Nuff said.
Mr. Bess,
I loved the NFL films short piece on your life story. I’m glad to see that your hard work has paid off. It should be an inspiration to all youth that dreams can come true. Your work ethic is one that all should follow. Congratulations!
Lefty just LOVES Kwame Brown!
and kazz, that’s a scary face….
its like you’re a magician or something…
Aloha Kakahiaka!!!
PowderPuff & Midori7 look like a skinny version of TweedleDum & TweedleDee.
W-Doc,
It looks like quinoa under the salmon.
Chawan,
Kwame Brown? 😆
Oh and you guys are worrying about the WRONG thing!!! Forget my expression in the photo above!!! The REAL question is: “why do I possess THREE balls”?

They have a right to post. You have the right to ignore. Don’t engage. It brings you, and us down to their level.
Sheesh. Some people are not satisfied with their two balls but go out to get a third even bigger one.
Actually I felt quite devious about winning the vballs. It was like LOI day. I hovered over them to make sure no one pulled a “UDUB” on me! Hence the look of “cockaroaching”/victory on my face!!! 😆
UH and USC to be aired by ESPN next season!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Banter, banter…
DPK, shoot!!! For a Thursday game it better be on ESPN!!! Used up a vacay day for this game!!!
Btw, did they announce the kickoff time? Last I saw it was 5:35pm HST.
Pomai,
Consodering Mother Theresa passed away a long time ago, I too would question that photo… But in a more concerned and fearful manner…
Davone,
How often do you get back home to Oakland?
Kazz-

Check it out, super fan!
Kazz I think we need for start planning for this t-gate now. Need to add a little flare to it.
#50 Kazz Good one brah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ROTFLMAO
Did someone say…T-GATE???!!!
Howzit, gang!!!!
Pride: I agree…..
Oh Brewwwww…..COME OUT TO PLAY!!!!!
BTW, does all this talk about Kazz’s balls make anyone else go, “Ewwwww…..” or is it just me???
Kazz!! Get to work!! hehehe..
Yup. Quinoa under the salmon.
OK. Now I am hungry….
Hey- Big C!!!
Pomai,
Add some flare to the tailgate for SC huh?
Well let’s find a local SC fan, tie them to a tree and “light them up”???
NOE THAT’S FLARE!!!!!!!!!
(Gawd I need help…) 😆
Davone- now that some time has passed since your Warrior days, can you think of a “turning point” moment when you became determined to go on to the next level in football?

Hi Ho!
What I was doing was protecting Paipai and others in the future. I look at things without prejudice. Your statement towards me is evident that you do.
Re #59: Hooo Kazz, you get planny balls, ah? 🙂
Hi Liz!!! *waving* *jumping up and down so you see me* (Feel the earth move??!!) BWUAHAHA!!
Kazz,
forget flare, let’s nuke the place!!! just kidding, let’s see, if we had more tongan fans with us we could always ‘pulehu’ a horse….a lot better than trying to ‘pulehu’ a Trojan condominium………i think.
ok, going to the dark side, must be time for lunch somewhere…..anywhere…. 🙂
PP
i think he has a ‘condition’ since they seem engorged just a bit……some medicinal relief should be in order, on top of that, the buggahs stay green, and unless there’s a calamungi tree close by, going take long time for boil those babies back to normal…….IMHO, das all
BULLA!! OMG!!! #65…..fricken “a”!!!! I am totally laughing to myself here at my desk!!! hehehehe….
UH and the State of Hawaii should pull out all the stops for that opening game on national tv. We need to show USC and the Pac 10 what it could be like with UH on their conference schedule. Be proactive- giveaways, advertising, etc. Get the Govs involved by placing a friendly wager (like the Sugarbowl peaches/pineapples thing.) Rally each and every bigwig in the State, as well as the fans, and anyone with even a remote connection to any Pac 10 administrators. Let’s get the ball rolling people! GO WARRIORS!!!
Good morning everyone!
Those pants look like they might fit me….just hem the legs up around 2 feet… 😐
No question, but Congrats to Davone Bess for his past and continued success in the NFL. Hawaii is watching and cheering for you!
I didn’t say it was Paipai’s car. I said it was his ride, as in how he gets dropped off.
That’s what happens when know-it-alls think they know it all.
Oh, yeah: lol.
When do you think the home games should start? I’d like to hear your views although, keep in my mind, my opinion outweighs yours (when it comes to deadline issues).

What do you want us to say?
WassupDoc:
Last week I posted a message to Chancellor Hinshaw about instituting a $50/semester fee with the student choosing “academic” or “athletic” contribution. It would begin with the “2010 fall semester”.
#69- that’s funny
As for home game start times- i like the earlier starts. It’s easier on the kids.
Like the early starting time!! Too bad, but if we could start earlier, the more chances we could be on TV in primetime on the east coast. I think that could lead to more recruiting in those areas and scheduling better opponents from the east maybe the those school would be more willing to come out here.
Whoa! What is that shaking going on???
oh- BIG-C !!!
😆
Davone – I realize your life stands as an example to the observant. Are there some words of practicality that you can offer to our current Warriors about “keys to success” ?
Although the 5pm start time “crunches” my morning schedule, I prefer this as it allows us more time after the game to complete tasks and go sleep earlier.
Just like the Army, be flexible to change, after change, after change – used to bug the crap out of me – why can’t people in charge do all their data collection, do their anaylsis, and select the best course of action to minimize change after change after change.
Only time where change is truly necessary is under combat conditions there are so many tthings that can influence your actions/decisions – thing over which you have no control, but must adjust.
A-House I am ok with what your saying up to the point of giving them a choice, never ever give a teenager a choice. LOL
All to the athletic dept. then maybe more would attend game to get their moneys worth.
Davone:
It is said that you were very much involved with the “jug machine” and this may have improved your ability to make spectecular receptions.
Some current Warriors say the “jug machine” is not helpful. Why the difference?
A-House wot you mean “complete tasks and go sleep earlier” it gives us more time for eat and talk story.
Techs, can you please delete #66. Please gang, no swearing. No tink just because you stay pretty, you can violate da rulez.
I liked the earlier start time for pretty much the same reason as others who liked that it means the game ends earlier.
Another thing is that the 5pm start ensures that the game shows up on ESPN’s schedule as a Saturday game during September and October (due to daylight savings time). Otherwise, it may give those on the mainland with bias against UH another silly reason to point out how Hawaii “doesn’t belong.”
No, Pride, pretty people are allowed to swear.
So, if anybody gets censored, well …
I don’t understand da big deal. If I like buy my 19 year old daughter one 2010 Hummer, das my business. No need be rich, just gotta afford the monthly payment and have decent credit. But I chose to buy her one ’84 Honda, only because my parents made me drive one ’64 VW bug when I was in college. What goes around comes around. Besides, gotta save m,oney for the cattle call at Roy’s.

😎
ok..
hiho til showtime!
I like the 5 PM start. That’s just enough time for Koakane to get to his seat and then fall asleep. He falls asleep at about 6 PM. So a start later than 6 PM, and Koakane will fall asleep at the bungalow instead.
morning to tsaiko country
good day to Davone and congrats on making it into the pro ranks
like the idea of collecting fees like doc and ahouse suggest. but up it to 100 with 50 going to the facilities budget and 50 to the athletic fees.
in so far as the start up times for warrior games vs WAC teams I am ok with it but keep the games to saturday. as for other opponents keep it at 7pm.
eh pride solved the crashing problem its ………….. oh you gotta come to the some games to find out
Pride.,
Is that
?
The student fee thing should’ve been done a long time ago. Asking them whether or not they wanted the fee was ridiculous. Just do it!
Yup, I’ll give you the ’84 Honda and buy my real daughter the 2010 Hummer.
Aloha All! Hope everyone is having a good Fat Tuesday.
Davone, how does it make you feel when you see fans wearing a jersey with your number and name?
Hahaha…THANK YOU, ST!!
*smacks Pride in da’ head and runs to hide behind da’ blog master*
BTW, THAT was not swearing….You should know…you’ve heard me wala’au before…….You wanna hear REAL swearing……
;-p
Davonne,
Who would you consider to be the best cornerback that you faced so far?
Yeah I heard you wala’au before. In fact, I heard you when you was in Kapolei and I was still in Waipahu.
Davonne,
Who’s given you the hardest hit so far in the NFL.
koakane!!!
So whaaaaat??!!! Whats da scoops????
When Koakane goes moemoe at the bungalow next season, can i have his extra ticket?
d1: Yes, thats the one! I believe, with all of Pride’s chanting, it means he’s treating us at the Roy’s CC, right??
I still don’t like Roy’s.
Lousy non-tipper #$%@&*
and that was nine years ago
Davonne,
You’ve had two years in the league now. As a student of June Jones’ offense, how prepared were you mentally for the NFL game compared to the other rookie WR’s that you have seen. In terms of technique, and being able to read defenses, were you more prepared? less so, or about the same as other rookies?
Davone, any chance you and RGM could be traded a few miles north?
You know like maybe Washington D.C.?
st….the younger folks usually mean it as a possesive noun when mentioning so and so’s “ride”. i.e. that would be his car.
no worry its probably a generation gap mixup.
Davonne,
By the way, I apologize if you have answered these questions before on the Warrior Beat.
Waht was the most difficult aspect of the NFL to adjust to? The speed? The size of the players? The size of the playbook? The array of different offensive formations? The difficulty in being able to read defenses? The techniques? The talent of the DB’s? or maybe something else?
Real Question,
Do you think it would have helped you and RGM in the draft if you stayed another year?
Or did you think it would have been a no win situation without Colt?
just want to thank Mr. Bess for his autograph. My daughter has it in her scrapbook.
There you go again, changing the rules. Making up your own along the way. Go ahead, go hide behind the blog host, again.
Son called from HNL, said pal infested with pubic lice, only thing I could think of was Kazz’ balls and how big da crabs would be eewwww
also, told him to stay away from that “pal” for a while
What? I neva’ change na-ten! That was always da’ rules, right? Right?? hehehehe…
And, anyway……I’m not the only one that makes up s#iT along the way…..
Speaking of which…where homey and JJ at??
No, Pride, pretty people are allowed to swear.

pride….going get scolding from the princess for multi questioning.

one word…vasoline
I was reading a column on ESPN and saw this article. It’s about how Andrew Bogut bought 100 level lower seats for Bucks games, then had people audition for the free seats. Maybe this is what UH should be doing for all our games. Have a tryout for the loudest, best fans and give them free seats to our basketball, volleyball, football games.
At first glance, it looks like some Super Games teams have a definite edge in speed and others in power.
Pride:
I was annoyed that someone would take an item from here, debate it somewhere else, then come back here and say: look what we talked about.
Geez.

me thinks keeping the questions short and limited to one per person went out the window sometime in the year 2000

your nfl success made june jones a prophet. how much do you attribute your nfl success to your hawaii experience?
By the way, we’re going to be giving away a Bess-autographed Dolphin hat to the person whom he feels asks the best question.

we all know that your success is the stuff that legend is made of. besides being given that second chance, people here who followed the warriors and davone bess also know that the other part of the equation was the hard work that you put in day in and day out.
can you tell the folks here what your typical daily off season and in season workouts included?

Davone,
Would you like to comment on the role that our great leader and blog host has had in your success?
As an environmentalist whose day job focuses on getting the US off fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions & to keep our young adults from having to fight wars over oil who was broadsided by a speeding Hummer on Hamakua Drive while driving a beautifully-restored 1970 VW, quite frankly that picture really, really disturbs me. Even if it is not his car, he is still riding around in it.
A well-tuned Hummer ranges between 10 & 15 miles per gallon depending upon the model, the distance, the traffic flow, and the driver. Here in Hawai`i, the lower figure is more likely because of the short distances we drive.
Yes, we still can make choices as to what we drive, but that is a choice I would have never expected from someone who’s at the University of Hawai`i.
About the only good thing that came out of that accident was finding the Warrior Beat blog during my recovery period.
If objecting to someone’s car choice makes me a troll, then so be it.
With respect to the student activity fee, the only way it will pass out is if all activities – not just athletics – are covered. The assumption is that free admission to Stan Sheriff Center and Murakami Stadium will be buttressed by parking fees for students living off-campus and concession sales.
With respect to Aloha Stadium admissions, the fee would have to be worked out with the Stadium Authority, but something like $5 per ticket with ID should be enough to cover basic costs.
Davone Bess-
In your own words, what do you think went wrong against Georgia at the Sugarbowl? Colt had a bad day, team was outcoached, unprepared for the speed end rush, etc?
So let me get this straight. The blog host purposely gets cute with his captions so that they have hidden meanings. How I see it this is immature. Especially now the blog host writes the fact that the hummer isn’t paipai’s. Why does he do this? The facts remain the genesis of the hummer is linked to paipai and I would think it is an invasion of privacy to paipai (or the family or to whoever owns the car) if he didn’t okay the picture of the hummer in the blog.
It’s craziness of pictures like this, and the craziness of photographers as to why coaches ban spectators, journalist and photographers from practice. If you can tell me that JD is happy with this type of picture then I’ll eat my words.
OHHH the hat was for the question which DAVONE thought was the best, not which Tsai thought was best.
Okay.
Davone,
Ask Tsai to comment on the role you have played, as great NFL reciever and inspirational example to us all, in Tsai’s success as blog host and leader.
Congrats to the Peoples Republic of China for ending the Russians dominance in figure skating. I always thought it would be the US to end their dominance.
On a side note, let’s hope UH ends USCs season from the beginning.

Transparent is a great word, particularly since the blog host turns 50 this year and it sure would be nice if a certain procedure involved transparency.

what are some of the greatest moments of your warrior experience here on and off the field?

tough question for you. if a slot back/wide receiver recruit approached you with this question; “i have narrowed my choices to hawaii and smu and i don’t know which school to go to. on one hand i love hawaii and on the other i like june jones. what advice can you give me???

Is tech gadget pretty enough to swear on the blog?
RE: Kickoff time.
As long as our players are not in any disadvantage then I don’t care.
But whatever makes our opponents and their fans the MOST uncomfortable then I am for that too.
It’s just like a cat playing with a mouse. Continuation. Tell me this then why is taboo for NCAA athletes to not divulge publically what eating establishment they eat at. Or what gyms they work out at. But then it’s okay to stand next to the hummer that’s in someway linked to them that gets posted in a newspaper blog. But the blog host can’t see this, He rather LOL at me.
Just wanted to let you know that your blog is not showing up properly on the BlackBerry Browser. Anyway, I
afternoon gang!
Davone –
did you purchase anything special with your first nfl paycheck?
sorry if this was asked before
Davone, would you like to stay with the ‘phins long term (yes, please!) if offered the chance?
off topic but interesting…
remember those old mummy movies.
remember how the mummy kind of dragged his one foot.
well, the truth be discovered as scientist are now claiming that king tut did have a club foot.
another post of useless information.
Yes, it is Davone who will be picking the winner.
And, might I add, because he now is a professional athlete, 1 p.m. is a relative time.
hiya jojo ® !
Davone –
how is it like working with Bill Parcells?
No problem…just tell the doc and close the curtain. Just wait until the one when you turn 60. 🙁
BTW Kid — your post #131 was pretty good. 😆
i see nothing.
another one at 60?!!!!?
howzit loa?
long time no see.
*flinches*
loa…i was in wahiawa last week checking out the new golden coin eatery.
howzit al – mahalo for all the recruiting info
Stephen – #140 – i think the day before the procedure more worse
btw – what is that in front of PP in the second to the last picture?
perusing the list of super games.
glad to see that 108 or so are in the house already.
for some reason, i have this feeling that london sapolu will be making an impact this coming year. we have had virtually no publicity about him and he has quietly slipped in the back door. i like that.
he’s a swing player. he could contribute on both sides. i thought i heard that he will be given a shot at center first.
also good to see hafoka in the lineup.
another sleeper is waylon lolotai. big athletic guy with great bloodlines.
al – #170 – cool, been pretty chilly lately on the central plain
No questions, just an admirer…
Davone, you exemplify Warrior football – you go undrafted to double cover danger. you’re sic dood, sic! Man, I love watching you play! Wishing you the Da Bess year in 2010 and I’ll smile every time you’re in LB coverage in the slot!
in admiration..
you work hard, never see you complain, you just line up and do your job. I’m waiting for your book! anyone that has a plan, map’s it out, work’s his hind end to get there, chooses to sign with a run oriented 1-15 team as a free agent WR, has success with that plan and is about to buckle loose from obscurity needs to have a book deal! – waiting, 100 copies for me for sure.. needs to be audio book tho, k
looking forward to the 2010 season
loa….i thought it was an oversized catcher’s shin guard???
i wonder if golden coin will effect marilou’s?
I think Pride used the VW as a backpack.
Davonne . . .
What was the biggest change going from the alleged system at UH to the systems used in the pros?
speaking of waylon lolotai….
here’s a guy that i would consider reversing his jersey number from 93 to 39. with his size 6’3″/245 a former te/de/lb who ran on his hs team’s 4×100 relay team i’ll bet he could become the polynesian larry csonka.
things that make you go hmmmm.
davone
lastly. are you planning to complete your college education, and if so, what is your major and what is your timetable to achieve this goal?
davone
okay last one for sure.
does it bother you or have you become so used to having your first name so often mispelled?
Pride – i remember my brother telling me they used to supe up da bugs at kapalama heights
I sure hope JD does not give-away the house when figuring out start times. Expect some things in return from the WAC. Like a fair road schedule.
game start time…
i like the new 5 pm start time.
in fact, i have been a long time proponent and advocate for even earlier start times. here’s why.
3 pm more opportunities for natl tv audiences on the east coast.
make use of the hot hawaiian sun as a gametime advantage
make use of the hot hawaiian sun/blue skies as advertisement for tourism trade (game becomes a long commercial)
primetime viewing on the west coast
tsaiko after game cabana-gate becomes more of an event
ahouse would stick around for a cabana-gate
koakane can stay up for entire game or at least through the first half
Davone . . .
Sorry, one too many n’s last time!
If you could give a two-minute talk to the Warriors tomorrow what would you say?
Hopefully there is a nice sized live audience today! Better still, I hope the audience is given some air-time!!!
i can see that the early start times has made travel to hawaii by opponents and there entourage a much more economically feasible thing where it may be less of an issue in scheduling.
although, the big programs will just charter a flight anyway.
wafan:
keep on dreaming as it will not happen as long as Benson is the “head” and I do not mean boss!!
al:
now, UH has 2 rather large athletes who ran for their respective 4×100 relay teams – I hope Coach Mack and his staff keep this in mind as they chart out the careers of their players.
Davone- what do you miss most about Hawaii when you are on the mainland?
Wow- Coach Mack is on the video link!
#132
W-Doc, is this what you’re saying?
1. We are fighting bloody wars because of oil
2. You were badly injured in an accident with a Hummer
3. If one rides in a vehicle, one is environmentally responsible for it
4. Someone associated with the university should not drive a Hummer because it’s not fuel efficient.
I recognize and applaud your commitment and relentless work in a very, very tough field…but I wish you would reconsider what you wrote. My reactions were #1 (simplistic, there’s more primary stuff there); #2 (it could have been any other kind of vehicle, more reasonable to hold the person responsible than the vehicle, dontcha think?); #3 that’s a tough sell…kinda like saying, if you visit someone’s house, you’re environmentally responsible for it; #4 implies that everyone at a university should have the same values and mindset…is that the goal of a university?
I understand the emotional impact for you, and I sympathize ((hug)) Please take a deep breath and make it another great day!
Davone
Would you please drop an anonymous note to Parcells to trade for #5 of the Redskins? Make it anonymous so the QB’s don’t get huhu with you.
wow, did you guys see the artwork in today’s article about UH BaseBow Sean Montplaisir? un real.
djmitcho and rasu begasu,
We love you even though the Princess pretends not to know you or how to say your names! 😆
c_c,
Yep, really cool stuff.
HAHAHAA- Davone asks ST – What’s your 40 time?
You are so loved, ST! You know it when the athlete picks on you 😆
whats it like playing in the freezing cold on the road?
Since I live on the west coast, an earlier start time would be great and would be perfect for the east coast writers in order for them to witness a major upset on Sept. 2.
Holy s-bombs, batman! #155, NO f-en swearing! Hello?! Well, unless you’re pretty…..that is….
BWUAHAHAHAHA!!!
This interview is totally LOL 😆
Way to go, Davone!
Congratulations al!
Slugger shoulda got the hat!
Great SHOW!!!
Congrats, Al!
MAHALO – and way to go, Slugger!
congrats to al
Kiss butt questions!!?? I RESEMBLE that remark.
The show was flawless today compared to last week. Good job guys, thanks Davone.
Waty to go al!
Congratulations, Al!!!
d1, thanks eh
Hurray this was the first time I could watch it all the way through without the stop an start. Good job to all.
rasu begasu might need some explaining–well, the name, anyway… 🙄 Those not familiar with Japanese syllables should note that there is no “L” or “V”.
Closest sound to the “La” is the “Ra” (pronounched “rah”) and the “Ve” is “be” (pronounced “bay”). The “U” in “su” is silent. SO…
ra-su be-ga-su
Rah-ss Bay gah-ss = las vegas
Congratulations, al!!!
deejay michiko?
Hi, Big-C! Long time no see!!!
#211: Aaaahhhhh….thank you! I get it now…hahaha..
al . . .
King Tut also had a cleft mouth. Seems it ran in the family . . . literally.
i missed the show.
what’s going on?
not!
whoootah!
mahalo davone bess, princess leila, and st.
it’ll go on my mantle along with my autographed photos of colt, davone, rgm, rivers, and hawthorne.
now i just gotta go buy one mantle at home depot.
wafan!! Whatup!!! How youuuu????
al: Home Depot? Go City Mill, mo’ bettah..I hear homey and J(J) are there buying paint and a shovel….
BWUAHAHAH!!
Just a sick story of a Ft. Lewis soldier who water-boarded his daughter in the kitchen sink.
She is 4-years old and is now with her maternal grandmother who reports the girl is covered with bruises.
The reason for the torture?
She did not want to recite her alphabets.
Please pray for her and her dad. Surely, they both can use it.
Big-C . . .
Doing okay. Even better since the sun is going to be out for the rest of the week! Whoo-hoo!!!
I missed the show again!!!
wafan: We’ll keep sending the sunshine your way!
you miss a lot these days jojo.
Finished with my walk-about in Mo’ili’ili.
It was definitely enjoyable being in the Green Room at the SSC for Davone’s interview. He’s an outstanding young man. Great role model for the team in his work ethic. Da Bess!
wafan,
I saw the Tut exhibit last month at the deYoung Museum in SF. Most of the pieces were from the tombs of his family, including grandparents, father Ahkenaten, possible mother Kiya, in-laws, and two daughters who never made it to full term. I saw the original Tutankhamun exhibit at the deYoung in 1979 which included his sarcophagus. Now, you’ll have to go to Egypt to see the majority of the pieces that were in his tomb.
Back to football…
___ her dad! 👿
He wants mercy he can take his sorrry arse to church!
Now it’s time for some damn justice!!! 😈
The folks who had gen ad tickets to watch some of the skiing events are being kept out because the snow at Whistler is melting. I hope they courses are holding up! Kind of hard to ski downhill on rocks.
Kazz . . .
That was my initial reaction, too. But, I wonder if he has PTSD. I have some friends who do suffer from it and the weirdest and littlest things set them off.
…regarding Paipai’s “ride”; he was not “offended” by it, in fact he and his girlfriend were laughing about it when I showed it to them, because the said they were trying to keep a low profile. And, the hummer is NOT his, it is waaaaay out of his league, only in his dreams. LOL
Oops…should have read…”because they said,,,,” not because the said…
ST:
If Solomon Kohler does “walk-on” to UH does that give UH an inside track to his kid bro? I hope so!
We know that Coach Mack did offer when he was in the 8th grade.
PTSD:
is an unfortunate circumstance that our “ground troops” may return with and unless treated quickly may result in years of unhappiness for those all around them.
it’s a sad reflection of what combat can do to a person and it, I’m sure, affects many from all wars/conflicts – perhaps we are more conscious of it today because of Iraq and Afgahnistan as we see it on TV and in our personal relationships with those who have this condition.
met a young man who was a Vietnam vet and he would wisper so others can not hear him talking about his friends KIA and what he witnessed in Nam – kept calling for his friends and telling them to watch out for traps and cry out when he envisions them being killed. he cries all the time.
many others prefer to remain silent so they can take all their combat memories to their grave.
sad, very sad.
OK, well.
Mahalo to Davone Bess for a great interview this afternoon.
ahouse,
you have mail 🙂
where is everybody at???
must be down at the farm.
howzit al. watching olympics
shall we go for 250?
241
Either on the farm or partying for Mardi Gras. Congratulations al, on winning the hat…super!
ST – initially, I didn’t like the 5 p.m. start for “industry reasons,” thinking the visitors wanted to skip out of staying on our island. But it is pretty good to be done early, especially on a Saturday evening. However, the 5 p.m. start on say, Thursday, September 2nd is hard for working folk. Of course we will always make time for our Warriors.
Al — I was on the farms last night. Ended up in South Africa. Unusual–I usually end up in the PI, Australia or New Zealand.
244
I have been refraining from commenting on game start time. Where’s the UH poll? I hope they have age as a demographic in the poll….and maybe number of years as a season ticket holder…in analyzing the responses.
i am not a big fan of the winter olympics.
went skiing once a long time ago at yosemite park.
lots of fun.
well, except for that poor girl i creamed on the intermediate slope.
thought i could snow plow to a halt.
i am staying away from the farming business.
i have been known to have a brown thumb.
stevem….did you see whitey in PI?
tu fiddy!
tu fiddy!
heheheh….
Bay-su-boroo on Friday.
Who’s in?
tu fiddy?
tu fiddy fo
tu fiddy fi
you sabe?
oh….tu fiddy.
don’t eat saimin while you speak.
if you hurry you can get to sanoya’s before they close.
burp
Oyasumina-tsai….
Mmmm, baseball. I can already taste the Warrior Dog and candied almonds…can’t wait. I wanted to bid on the “high-roller” auction items that included suite seats to MLB games (Yanks and Giants) so badly last night…but mine aren’t as big or as plentiful as Kazz, so I couldn’t pull the trigger. 🙂
No. Not unless he was with Gina, Crystal, or vangie. 😳 Sorry, just got back from Tasmania, Australia. 😆
Farm Town will take you all over the world… I guess that’s why I still do it after all this time. Actually, it was Addahknowjoe who pointed this out last summer. See–I told you A-joe is at the bottom of a lot of stuff 🙂
ok,
seems like everyone is either eating saimin or sleeping, or both? now that would be a sight, haha
Not me, Bulla. Hungry? Are you in town?
eh steve
at work doing paperwork, took over another property yesterday at 0600 hours
Okay, I’ll bite – what’s Farm Town?
Bulla – saw your quotes in one of the homeless stories. Seems to me that you have two hats to wear on these complex issues. Is your church involved in providing even basic outreach services?
A bill is being introduced at the City Council to set aside a couple of areas for the homeless to set up their tents. Showers, latrines & something akin to a field kitchen and eating areas will be installed and maybe even a couple of shipping containers for storage will be brought in. Until or unless the cost of real housing touches reality, then I’m not sure if anything else can be done.
.
BASEBALL HAS ALREADY BEGUN. Drop by Murakami Stadium for a great time Friday night/Saturday & Sunday afternoons/Monday night.

What’s with the double posts? Sorry about that.
197 days 15 and a half hours to go till we find proof on the field.
Go Warriors
Happy Hump Day!
This is a short 3-day school week. I expect it to last darn near forever.
Tsigh.
Good morning wafan, when is the next trip home?
Hi, Pomai!
Summer. So far away. HA!
Interesting study conducted on Georgia’s recruits over a 5 year period (2004-2008) found that recruiting star ratings generally corresponded with their performance on the field for their team.
5pm Thursday will be a tough time for some people to get to Aloha Stadium…but I hope that it is full so that the Warriors will get as much support as possible. That kickoff time was probably set by ESPN, as they need the UH game to fit the late game time slot for their opening night doubleheader.
Mahalo for the List…
Not on the list due to injury or other reasons:
Josh Andrews, Brian Blumberg, Rodney Bradley, Kaiser Iuta, Levi Legay, Malcolm Lane, Brett Leonard, Gary Nagy, Corey Paclebar, Aaron Rink, Bronson Tiwanak, Tui Tuiasosopo
Oh and it should be spelled: Kahekili Kalalau
Oh and Dwight Armbrust, not Armbust 🙂
If you’re looking for choice sports art, with outstanding service too, Absolon Moreau’s 1 of the greatest. I ordered one of his paintings for a Christmas present for my parents (big Colts sports fans they are), and just ordered 2 more from him. Highly advocated.
