Allen, Thomas take shot at G League
A couple of former Rainbow Warriors are attempting to take their games to the NBA G League.
Forwards Noah Allen and Mike Thomas are on training camp rosters for two teams in the G League (formerly the D-League), the NBA’s up-and-coming minor league that now features 27 franchises.
Allen, who played his lone season for UH in 2016-17 and was a first-team All-Big West player, was drafted 15th overall by the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards’ G League affiliate, last week. Allen averaged 7.6 points in his first pro season with Manresa in Spain’s second-tier league last season.
He is on the Go-Go’s 15-man training camp roster.
Thomas, the winningest player in UH hoops history who wrapped up his five-year collegiate playing career in 2017-18, was announced Monday to the Salt Lake City Stars’ 16-man training camp roster.
The Stars are the Utah Jazz’s affiliate.
Thomas, who led UH with 13.1 points and 6.0 rebounds as a senior to earn Big West honorable mention status, is listed as a tryout.
G-League teams are allowed to roster 12 players for the season, and must trim down to that by Nov. 1.
Last year, former ‘Bow Negus Webster-Chan played 19 games for Raptors 905, the Toronto Raptors’ G-League team, averaging four points.
If there were 27 franchises, Bill Amis and Miah Ostrowski would be on pre-season rosters.
