Warrior Beat: “We can do better”
No, Saturday night’s 42-21 win over Duquesne was not always aesthetic. But the Warriors are 4-1, the eighth time in the program’s history they have won at least four of their first five games. The Warriors need to win three of their remaining eight regular-season games to clinch a berth in the Dec. 22 Hawaii Bowl.

This season, the Warriors have received surprising boosts. In the opener, rush end Kaimana Padello induced CSU linemen to commit three holding penalties. The next week, Jeffrey Keene blocked a punt and defensive end Manly Williams played a strong game in his first career start. Against Duquesne, linebackers Scheyenne Sanitoa, and Kana‘i Picano each had a sack.
Defensive coordinator Corey Batoon said there have been a lot of players getting their first significant playing time.
“Then again, five games into it, you’re not new anymore,” Batoon said, adding stepping up is “part of football. Guys go down and, it’s got to be the next man up. We talk about that all the time. You’re one play away from being a starter.”

Head coach Nick Rolovich said the Warriors’ surge from a 14-0 deficit might prove inspiration in the future.
“I don’t think we did all the little things right,” Rolovich said. “I’m glad we were able to get out of there with the win. The lesson is we can do better. We can do things better. We can act better. We can practice better. There’s always room for improvement.”

I didn’t hear a reason why Ward didn’t start last week and Ursua and Byrd didn’t start last night but Rolo might be playing Jedi mind tricks to confuse the defense.
Extensive testing proves I’m not a robot. Past experience confirms I cannot dance the Robot.
Not a masterpiece by any means, but I’ll take an ugly win over a glorious loss any day.
That’s the spirit, Warriors! Win your se7en and imagine how fun the rest of season will be up until Bowl time!
And once they win se7en, maybe we can see Che7en. Now that’s a nice dark green t-shirt for sure:
WE GOT SE7EN
NOW LET’S SEE CHE7AN!
###
Here. This one’s better. I call dibs on this, this one mine too:
LET’S GET TO CHE7AN!!!
Seven wins has been done under Rolo. This is the year he has to chase championships. And it all starts this week at San Jose. If they continue to get better winning the MWC and going to the Las Vegas Bowl would be better.
Stop asking for Chevan. Cole has played as good as we could ask for this being the first year running the offense. Starting unit needs to stay in and build chemistry—which is what the ENTIRE OFFENSE relies on when receivers have variable routes.
A couple quarters will not make Chevan game ready. Just be quiet and support the QB that led us here in the first place.
Look. Fans can speculate. Ask. There is a Sunday evening TV show featuring Coach Rolo and a “call the coach” show on radio normally on Tuesday evenings—you thibk with all that post-talk that Rolo himself expects to preach to the choir? No way, and he’d be the first to say that.
Fans can ask. You act like I’m the only one haha. This is America. 🇺🇸
I think we need to see Chevan, especially with a 4 game red-shirt rule. Even if it was to just catch shotgun snaps and straight hand-off to Holly. Just to ease our minds. He is on the two deep so he gotta be ready. McDonald got meaningful snaps last year (albeit not to throw) at odd junctures, that might have given him the frame of reference toward charting his progress. Be ready anybody. Everybody.
As of today, there is no UH game film on Chevan, so he can be a secret weapon until he appears the first time. As we move into our MWC schedule, we need all the secret weapons and surprises we got.
Moussa is a different case though. You preserve him. Use him only if McDonald gets hurt and misses time. Maybe HE is the one who is the primary backup (could be), but our minds won’t ease unless we see Chevan. When the time is right I suppose. They will be ready.
Thank you to suckkabooya and Steve M.
I mean it started out as a legend (correct me if I’m wrong). The very QB coach came down from the STANDS in a game Che7an was doing damage in and offered Cordeiro a scholarship.
Let’s see SOME follow-up. Stutz has GOT go know what it feels like to be left out a play at times.
10– from what I hear behind the scenes at Cooke field. the real hidden secert and secert sauce is Moussa….
They can take turns rotating the red shirt year (Corderio/Moussa) between this year and next year, as long as McDonald is the primary. They can peak when Cole graduates. Gonna be the best tandem in the nation.
3 wins: San Jose State, UNLV, Wyoming, 1 away game and 2 home game. Guaranteed.
Hawai’i Bowl 2018
December 22, 2018
2:30 p.m. Hawai’i time.
Great job Warriors. Enjoy the win. Remember, never look pass any opponent. Prepare for San Jose State. As always, “In Rolo, we Trust.”
Traveled from Ohio to watch my Warriors. Great to be with the local fans HH section, seeing the 2007 boys again; tailgating the best as always. Got to talk story with Savannah #15 during the game her future looks good. Seriously first 10 minutes was rough. Last 10 minutes the best watching the local fans staying to the end, sing with the team. Mahalo
Going to be better than the Tagovailoa/Hurts tandem. Be ready.
WARRIORS. HAWAI’I BOWL 2018
#7 anybody know if Dayton Furata went to the hospital? Too much poundings on his body.
Nevermind da mistakes they made, that’s how you learn from them, and come out stronger, that’s what a true “WARRIOR ” learns, I neva Eva give up, only da strong, once were WARRIORS, always a WARRIORS fan.
Spectrum Sports Encore HD channel 1215 is airing the game again (yes, this Sunday afternoon right now), FYI. Kickoff has just occured. Enjoy.
EXCUSE me—it is SPCDP Spectrum HD channel 1012 is airing last night’s Hawaii vs. Duquesne game right now. “No score” at this point.
from the North end Zone, next to the Jumbo Tron, the fans were clueless what happened to the 2007 team that was introduced between “time outs” — we could see their gathering, but could not understand any word spoken over the “PA” system
if was disappointing to see how they were treated — they had to be ‘ushered off the field’ before the next play began — why not introduce before the UH band did their repeated homecoming performance — yes, they practiced very hard, but 5 minutes could not have hurt their performance.
“half time shows” are getting STALE — basic, same oh, same oh!!!
very happy to see UH students filling their sections — by half, about 1/3 were gone!!!
Hawaii was supposed to race to a big lead by the half and sit Cole McDonald down.
Mr. A-House, they should have been introduced right before the coin flip or at halftime
There are 8 games left, perfect timing for each freshman QB to get 4 games of reps. However I don’t think they should get reps just for the sake of getting reps, the timing has to be right and they shouldn’t be set up to fail.
Despite Mr. Tsai’s best eradication efforts, the blog still has to deal with a clown and a joker.
Steven Wright allowed two inherited runners to score and gave up the lead.
For postseason roster considerations, Wright is probably on the fence.
I hope this doesn’t hurt his chances.
Wright throwing to Greg Garcia and Kolten Wong in the World Series would be amazing.
From our seats, it was hard to feel the celebration of the 2007 heroes. Agree that they deserved more than just a commercial time out.
Everything else about the game was awesome. Loved to see some new names making plays.
Any idea as to what the attendance was at the Stadium on Saturday night?
#26 burro sabio: isn’t a matter of automatically deleting the originating the messages or is the messages coming from different isp?
26,175. Not bad crowd at Aloha stadium. Could be better.
The Hawaii Special Teams was big a concern in the beginning and in various other points of this game.
The Hawaii team had way to many mental mistakes, ball security & penalties this was not a cleanly executed win against a FCS opponent.
We as fans are proud of the young men on fighting back, no quit attitude/swag, but it’s MWC conference play against SJSU next game. Believe that SJSU at home with the bye week will watch film, scheme and be hungry to try knock off the 4-1 Hawaii Warriors.
Hawaii will a slim favorite to win against SJSU, but got to stay hungry & disciplined. To get respect got to give respect and earn it.
Live Aloha/Play Warrior
Work Grind/Play Swag/Earn Respect/Go Warriors!
ANYBODY know why LB Scott nit playing? Bradda is bug and can run. Seen him on kickoff teams. Suppose to be a highly recruited player.
The 2007 team should have lined (half circled) up for the coin toss. Then later recognize Danielson, Dyer, and Balangardi the way they did but do it in between the first and second quarters when there is a longer commercial break. Plus you couldn’t make out what was announced. At least their families (of the 2007) participated in the pregame introductions.
Cappie
The Cardinals should try to acquire Wright. Imagine Your set-up guys are Wright then Hicks or vice versa. Would mess you up
Great Morning All!
Lost weekend for me and da Ohana.

What kind of results would you get out of a closer with 95+ heat who throws the knuckleball as his off-speed pitch?
Or.
A middle reliever who one inning, throws his hammer of God stuff, then finesses his opponents in the next.
Melvin Van Peebles’ “Sweet Sweetback’s Badass Song” is finally available on Blu-Ray.
So what will Hawaii Athletics look like under a one-party rule?
Thanks a lot, Michael Schmidt.
4-1 with 8 to go. This wee is a must win for a lot of reasons, conference play, gets you closer to your goal of winning season just to name a few. This young team needs to grow up real fast and we need to avoid being too “cute”. Think I noted a little rankle just before half-time when a thrown pass fell incomplete on 4th down. We needed the three for a first and Dayton would still be running had he been given the bal. Now the score is 28-14 door is closed and momentum clearly swings way toward Warriors. It’s the little things that create wins. I am all for taking the ball at the 25 and making a first and 10 at thirty five on possessions. The field position completely changes if and when you have to punt it back. This is a game clearly on field position and the numbers say short fields are bad for the defense. So SJSU had a bye should be rested and ready. We need to zero in on what we do best to perfection and add a wrinkle or two like a reverse or a sweep with a slot. Confident we will show up and now it’s up to team leadership to what degree we do that. GoWarriors!!!!!
I’m Concerned with one game at time ? NO looking ahead the Hawaii teams have no history of doing anything the easy way..! Right now the game we gave DuQuense ? I gotta think UH team needs to refocus no more dumb mistakes on special teams’, and cut out the penalties take out the receivers
when we are on defense because we get burned on the deep pass and the play action every game?
Our run defense is stellar I applaud it to no end but I don’t see the pass rush attack putting enough pressure on the QB till they have a lead on us..’ Missed tackles piss poor tackling ..Cmon’
Wrap up take out their legs and put them down..!
All they need is 3 more wins?
The coaches don’t pay any bills. They just fly to the mainland and back. If you look at the Aloha Stadium and expenses, it’s community funded. Not UH coaches getting paid. No bills are paid from the coaches.

Do you think Coach Rolovich gets more conservative (less fourth down risks) as we get into conference play? I didn’t like leaving points on the field in that situation. And he was not happy with the play that was called on that read. Ursua was really open though. Just a bad pass. Just wondering.
GO WARRIORS!
BEAT SAN JOSE STATE
#42 I can not be a bigger fan of Coach Rolovich staff and team so my thoughts are as an observer and a guy who had seen thousands of games. I guess you can debate anything. I am an advocate of field position and big percentage success. I think the Warriors will do what they think is right depending on flow of game and all other factors. Sometimes people see risk where there isn’t and sometimes people see conservative where it’s just being smart. The next 8 games dictate a fresh look at everything. Team success is the ultimate goal. Decisions will mirror that. One thing many people don’t see is that plays called early in game are a set up several sequences after that-I think there will be some very interesting plays that will be unveiled in coming weeks-GoWarriors
