From Z to A
Linebacker Andrew Choi of Kaiser High is joining the Warriors as a walk-on.
Choi is the younger brother of UH defensive tackle Zeno Choi.
Andrew Choi is 6-1 and 215 pounds.
He is following the path of his older brother, who also joined as a walk-on before being awarded a scholarship last season. Zeno Choi is representing UH at next week’s Mountain West Media Preview.
Andrew Choi and Zeno Choi will be the third set of brothers on UH’s defense. Kaimana Padello and KK Padello, who currently is assisting helpers on the Big Island, are defensive ends. Justus Tavai is a defensive tackle and Jahlani Tavai is a middle linebacker.

pay per view should not be allowed in bars, restaurants,or any place of business.problem solved.
Oh, almost forgot…
Welcome Andrew!
Go Warriors!
= I’m a number one comrade (bling translation).
Welcome Andrew. Lot’s of walk-ons this year. Is the number of football players allowed on a team still 105? If so, then teams are allowed the 85 scholarship players and 20 walk-ons.
A to Z! Brilliant! Welcome to Choi the younger!
Russkys on the blog?! Oh my. I’ve had my suspicions about you, Boola Boolakanakovich! Or should I say Boolatamavich? !

Thanks. I forgot about the Tavais.
Yeah…its seems like a lot of walk-ons but those who have been there for a while and have not progressed will probably be cut to give new walk-ons a try. I don’t think its productive to keep kids on for such a long period of time and not show any kind of improvement. To me, its a waste of space and resources.
In sports like basketball and volleyball, there is such a small roster so the coaches may keep kids on the team for three to four years even though they not close to cracking the lineup just so they have enough bodies to practice. Football get more than enough to practice and I think its much better to give your walk ons two years to show your stuff. If you don’t improve, you should be cut.
Its not something coaches like to do but I think they need to do it give other kids a chance. Who knows, some new walk ons could be much better than those who are already on the team and deserve a spot.
Great Morning All!
Hatin’ French Goalies today… 👿
Congratulations Le Bleu!

Brah this 20th century thinking only makes more problems. I’ll spell it out for you: this decreases interest in the football team. Out of sight, out of mind.
The real way to solve the problem is to make Aloha Stadium (if we’re stuck in a contract that doesn’t give us the bulk of concessions) a place where people want to go even if there is not a football game. Again, I’ll lay it all out for you: make a comprehensive experience, that includes real food, and thoughtful exhibitions. Think of a living football museum that includes video highlights of current high school games & players. This creates excitement in high school players, and helps to keep them interested in staying home to play knowing they will be appreciated.
I know you guys can see this blog’s declining interest. It is tied in with UH games being more and more difficult to watch, even if you wanted to. There are other things to do in 2018. No one watches, no one talks.
The future will happen, do you old folks want it to be with or without you?
All in da ohana!
“.”
In my opinion the declining interest began with the product on the field. The Norm Chow offense of the 1980’s BYU era everyone hoped for (and some expected) never materialized. Set us back some. And unfortunately disheveled the UH “brand” Coach Jones built. UH has been busy trying to recapture the past. This year is the first definitive step in that direction. All part of a rebuilding process that will eventually (as each segment is completed) aim straight for the next generation fan. You’re right, out of sight out of mind so we need to be “in sight”. Coach Rolovich has definitely returned the “Ohana” brand that had been lost as of late. The “Old guy’s” will do their part. It’s up to the Athletics Department to reach out to people (fans?) like you. May take some outside the box problem solving but “We” (all of us) can do it.

My comment was in response to that. Forgot to frame it that way. Sorry.
people that watch uh games at bars are there for a reason.out of sight out of mind is a weak argument.
Zeno Choi has proven himself to be a contributor. Andrew with different size and skill set will be given same opportunity. Don’t think it’s a bad thing to have several W/O. The roster is capped and you can always use a guy with ability who wants to be here!!! GoWarriors!!!
Hawaii needs to divide their current spectrum TV contract into 2 separate contracts. One for MWC sports (football) and one for Big West sports (Volleyball, Basketball, Softball and Baseball etc.). Put both contracts out to bid separately.
Currently they make about 1.2 million for the whole thing for ALL sports.
I’m sure they can get about 500K plus for an all Big West sports deal. If the MWC TV deal pays them more than the SEPARATE Local football deal, take the MWC deal which is approx 1.1 million plus network TV bonuses for each game they appear on a major network.
Let’s do the math:
Currently all sports on the current local TV contract brings approx: 1.3 million.
Separate contract TV deals: 1.1 MWC TV share plus maybe network bonuses + separate local Big West deal 500K = approx 1.6 million (without possible addition network bonuses).
Plus it would kill PPV and possibly bring more fans out to the stadium.
Question: Does the 105 maximum refer to number of players on the roster, or the number who can dress for home games? I was thinking there’s no mandated limit to players, just how many can dress. I know for road conference games the limit is much lower (I think its about 65, right?).
105 is the training camp number. It can go up on the first day of school.
66 is the travel number for MWC games. UH keeps that limit for all road games for cost concerns
Shouldn’t UH include the PPV whole package purchases as season ticket holders also?
20. UH makes $2.3 to 2.4 million per today’s article.
Oh, I thought it was 1.3 or 1.4 they got. Never mind then. Lol
the bars and restaurants that show ppv is killing attendance.
Road games should be precluded from the PPV package.
If by some miracle Hawaii wins(I treat any men’s basketball and football road victory like a sign of God), those are extra eyes that may lead to extra occupied seats at the next home game.
HBO is awesome.
A segment on “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” should be seen by everybody.
Andrew … hoping you have the same success as Bruddah”Z” …
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!
I think people want football separated but if that happened then:
1) Men’s basketball and Wahine volleyball would be moved to pay-per-view
2) You’d never see another soccer match, women’s basketball or softball game on TV.
It cost a lot of money to produce a sportscast.
Re: 21 & 22. Thank you Stephen! So, after training camp, when school starts, we can have as many walk-ons as the coaches want. Cool.
UH signs 5-11 JC WR John Johnson, has been timed at 4.44 in the 40. See today’s paper. He reports in July.
I wonder if TV PPV customers who are ALSO Aloha Stadium Season Tickets holders could get a package deal for purchasing both? What do you folks think?
