Hoops staff shuffling
Eran Ganot has some staffing up to do this offseason.
Oregon State announced the addition of UH hoops assistant Marlon Stewart as the Beavers’ new director of operations on Tuesday. Stewart, formerly an assistant at Montana, lasted just one year in Manoa as the team’s defensive coordinator and post players coach.

The 32-year-old Stewart becomes the shortest-tenured assistant under Ganot besides Norm Parrish, who was here just a couple months in 2015 before taking a small college head job back in his native Utah. Stewart, to his credit, gamely endured plenty of “get a load of how young this guy looks!” jokes in his single season here.
He joins the Pac-12 staff of Wayne Tinkle, himself a former head coach at Montana, and associate head coach Kerry Rupp, the former Louisiana Tech head coach and one-year UH director of ops under Gib Arnold.
UH is in need of a new director of operations as well, as two-year member of the staff Todd Okeson is parting ways from the program for a place to be determined.
Okeson, a universally well-liked staffer and a former Nevada Wolf Pack point guard, came to UH after being cut loose from a staff changeover at Southern Utah. It’s not easy to raise a family on a d-ops salary, though that’s what Okeson undertook willingly with his wife and two children (and had a third here). He replaced Jamie Smith and wants to stay in basketball.

It is hard to accomplish building a Championship caliber program when UH cannot afford to retain some of its best coaches. Hawaii, THIS HAS TO CHANGE PRONTO or we will continually be just a stepping stone, if we want to be a player in the Nation, we GOTTA start paying like one.

Yes, totally agree Roy, but it will never happen with our current and foreseeable future of democratic leadership. UH Athletics simply serves as a convenient distraction, a red-herring, that allows our governor and legislature to squander millions and gazillions on other programs which continue to flourish seemingly unnoticed by the public.
