Reynolds no longer with Warriors

Bubba Reynolds, the strength and conditioning coordinator for football the past two seasons, is no longer with the program, the Warrior Beat has confirmed.

Tommy Heffernan, UH’s overall strength and conditioning coordinator, and his staff will work with the Warriors until a replacement is named.

The Warriors, who were off for a week because of UH’s spring break, resume spring training on Tuesday.

Fresh off a record-setting series win over UC Irvine, the baseball ‘Bows travel to Stockton today ahead of tomorrow’s game against Pacific.

The ‘Bows set team highs for most runs and widest victory margin in a Big West game in the 14-2 rout of UC Irvine.

    Greetings, Mr. A-House!

Definitely enjoying my new hobby . . . napping. Why? Because I can.

  13. clyde April 1, 2018 11:17 am

Duster: Stephen has a great sense of humor, but when it comes to a person’s livelihood, it’s hardly a joking matter.

Whatever the reason for Reynolds’ departure, wish him well and move on.

  14. Inyoface April 1, 2018 11:25 am

I’m sure there’s more than a few local guys that are qualified to be a strength and conditioning coach.

  15. Bootsie April 1, 2018 11:51 am

When football went to West Point was there any “group travel” prices. Thinking about this coming season. Early I know but prices get crazy real fast. Thank you.

  16. Stephen Tsai April 1, 2018 12:16 pm

I could be wrong on this but I think there might be a state rule that would prevent a state-hired S&C coach from also training athletes for money on school property. So that might force someone, say, who works out of Hawaii Kai to choose between a state job and a private training business.
    Just sayin’ …

  17. Duster April 1, 2018 12:18 pm

#13 Clyde, I realize it’s no joke. I certainly do not know the inside story, but it does not look like a positive development when another staff member leaves the program during/after last season – especially after there seemed to be stability with new coaches coming on board and the start of Spring Practice.

I can also say that no one has ever referred to me as Chicken Little before.

  18. Duster April 1, 2018 12:20 pm

Stephen, thank you for the nugget.

Deepest Condolences to Bonafide Tsai-ko NorthShoreFan and ohana!

What a shock…I personally contacted him about Mei Ling’s Cattle Call and the Karaoke Call the other week and he just said “maybe” and never mentioned Shiela… 😐

  20. clyde April 1, 2018 12:55 pm

#15: He would be an obvious candidate, but he’s worked hard to build his business and I wonder if he’d give it up despite the state benefits. Who knows …

Just for fun, throwing another name out there … Phil Martin. I’m not sure if he’s just on the business end of fitness, but the guy looks more like a tight end/defensive end these days than a power forward.

Condolences to NSF and his ohana.

Make plans to come down to the SSC on Senior Night (April 14th) to honor Tui Tuileta and Mamane Namahoe. Mamane is the grandson of the late, great Tsaiko, bighilofan2.

No other school does Senior Night like UH.

There are a number of up-n-coming assistant S & C coaches at P-5 and mid major schools looking for an opportunity to become head man.

Perhaps Coach Rolovich is not happy with the overall conditioning, speed, & strength of the team, along with the injuries from last season. Therefore, he felt that a change was needed. He’s the boss and it’s his call. Just saying. Football S & C coaches are an integral part of any program’s success or failure today in college ball.

Guys like Ikaika Alama-Francis, Chad Owens, Travis LaBoy. Kealoha Pilares and Aaron Brown all transformed and developed their bodies leading to them getting NFL opportunities. I realize that a lot of that success is because of the hard work and desire of the individual but I think the Strength Coach has a lot of influence there. Injuries are always going to happen but as far as the development of “strength” in this recent stretch, I don’t recall a lot of transformations. We got a lot of redshirt guys we’re depending on and a lot of new freshman that need to bulk up so there is a lot of work to do here. Maybe a change was needed (I don’t know) but we need to transform these talented kids best we can. Somebody can.

Aloha Warrior fans. I’m in Syracuse NY on vacation and was checking out the Orangeman football website to find Coach Mike Cavanaugh on the staff. I know UH Alums Dino Babers and Kim McCloud are leading the program and now Cav is in the mix they should be making some noise in the ACC.

Hope UH program makes some noise this year since they hired a veteran staff. Getting excited for the season to start.

  27. cappie the dog April 1, 2018 6:47 pm

I used to hate the mid-week game.

Coach Trapasso would throw in a little-used middle reliever and that middle reliever would pitch, most often, what you’d expect, followed by pitchers who would normally see mop-up duty.

Tomorrow, against Pacific, Hawaii has the luxury of starting a bona fide guy.

If DiMiero can give Trapasso seven good innings, and Hawaii is leading, I hope he entertains the idea of using front-line guys. Pacific has an RPI of 156. A loss against the Tigers will take them out of at-large consideration come tournament selection time.

It’s a weird year for the Big West.

    Cal-State Fullerton is severely underperforming.

Three games into the season and the Mariners are already using David Freitas.

    Good for him.

In other HUGE Hawaii sports news, Max “Blessed” Holloway will be fighting for the Lightweight UFC title. Go get um Max!!!

The Big West baseball conference is a one bid league this season, per a Fullerton fan expert.

Gotta give Women’s Water Polo a mention. #5 ranked Wahine (16-4) beat #10 UC Davis 12-7 on Saturday. Wahine were led by Claire Nixon (Sr/England) with 4 goals, followed by Chloe Barr (Sr/Australia) with 3 goals.
