Pro Day
Our buddy Jon Nielsen reports that Trayvon Henderson had a 39 1/2-inch vertical jump at today’s pro day.

Keelan Ewaliko had a 35-inch vertical jump.
Here’s Ewaliko in the 40 (video courtesy of Jon Nielsen):

With tomorrow’s opening of spring practice, here are five to watch:
> Cole McDonald will be a third-year sophomore in the fall, but he already is the dean of UH quarterbacks. He is the only QB in camp who has played in a Division I game. McDonald has taken his status seriously, leading unsupervised workouts and throwing passes to anyone who wants to catch.
> Larry Tuileta is one of the volleyball team’s top players. But the volleyball team has a bye this weekend, and football is paying his tuition and school expenses. If he participates in spring ball, he’ll get ample reps … and a chance to contend for the QB’s job in the fall.
> The move to the double-slot offense creates a job opening opposite John Ursua. Folks are raving about Cedric Byrd’s speed and toughness.
> Two jewels of the 2018 recruiting class — defensive tackle Doug Russell and linebacker Paul Scott — redshirted because of injuries. They could be difference-makers at already stacked positions.
Ekahi, Ichi, Uno, One, Foist.
Safe travels to all who went up for Pro Day.
Good luck to all the Warriors!
Have a great day!
Good luck to all the Warriors!
Have a great spring!
mahalo mr. tsai for the vids. you got the time for ewaliko and unga?
No medical redshirt for Unga uh? I guess with no TE in the offense anymore this is probably the best for him. I would have loved to see him convert to Defensive End.
Good luck to Unga. For Rolo, it would be a mistake to abandon the TE with the latest advent of the run n shoot. I think we can all remember those games where we wished JJ would put in a TE here and there. I think that is one component that can be woven into the offense. Especially with a versatile TE like Unga was.
43″ vertical is the average standard. Not that high. 6’0″.
5’11” Ewaliko 35″ vertical, too low. High School numbers. Make sure he can just run.
Ewaliko can run. I say a slot back on an run and shoot route. Philadelphia eagles runs the run and shoot.
Rootin’ for the pro prospects!
Anxious to see what spring practice brings!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Giving credit to some unknowns in high school sports basketball, who never did make a living, you beat out Ewaliko on the high jump. Even though you remained an unknown all your life and not popular like Ewaliko or successful as Ewaliko.
High schoolers and alumnus are here. One insight.

You’re right. There were so many times you wish there was a tight end for the June Jones run and shoot at least for certain situations. I remember Coach Jones using Jordan Slye as what looked like a tightly lined receiver in certain sets but he was no tight end. NFL splits tight ends all over the place to cause matchup problems somewhere. No Unga, and now no Greeley. I think they both would have made the transition without a problem. We’ll see from tomorrow.
Also, R.P.I. Is measurements of a team on strength of schedule, away games records, individuals with exceptional conference statistics. I’m sure they will take into account Ewaliko’s desire, speed, work ethic, and overall fitness, if he is to be chosen as a free agent, then a team member or walk on first.
Good luck to the former Warriors on Pro Day!
ST, you consider DT a stacked position? I think that’s a major area of weakness.
Ewaliko is the man. Let us honor Keelan Ewaliko. If he makes the NFL team, let us treat him as a king. You know, that king that was called king of the jews. He deserves every attention. Go Keelan.
Tomorrow is the first day of spring ball and still no spring roster posted on the site…
Great Afternoon All!
IS IT WEDNESDAY YET?
would there be a problem in using “TE” in the double slot positions?
you can align them wide and shift them in to be “blockers” or fake a block and run a short route over the middle from either side — great mis-match on height!
why must a “slot” always have to be on the smaller side and “fast”?
offense really needs to think outside the box in crafting plays
conforming to the “norm” is a weakness be it offense or defense.
Doug Russell and Paul Scott were 2018 recruits, but “red-shirted” in 2017-18?
what am I missing? am I reading wrong?
isn’t the current recruiting class for 2018?
ST was fooling us by keyboarding 2018 for 2017!
“I’m so tired and so weary,
I’m so tired and so blue
Now you’ve gone and left me
Oh where do I belong”
opening stanza for All for the love of a girl sung by some guy named Horton who sang Sink the Bismark
ye ha! spring ball is here!
“Rolling, rolling, rolling,
rolling, rolling, rolling raw hide”
giddihop horsey!!!
you guys are too concerned with the positions on paper. Dakota Torres is still Dakota Torres. he will be listed at slot but is the same guy that played TE and can still line up where a TE would line up. Same goes for the big backs. It would have been the same with Greeley if not for his medical retirement. As for Tui Unga, maybe he just didn’t want to be a student athlete anymore?
IMHO, the “pistol”last year was totally ineffective – run all the way
change that for 2018 and use someone who can run and pass with great effectiveness
i liked the Eagles fake where the QB moved into a blocking position on the right side, ball snapped to the “pistol” who threw the ball to a “receiver” on the left who ran toward the middle and passed the ball to the wide open QB in the end zone — didn’t work for the Patriots who tried it first.
trick pay? hardly, if it is a regular part of the offense and run once or more a game — much like USC student body right, then student body left — stop us if you can!!! opponents all knew it was coming, but could not stop it early on.
integrate play(s) in spring ball and allow practicing in the off-season
#6 KOH I NOR
I don’t know where you get your info from but the average vertical jump for an NFL safety is 36.3″…..that’s also the highest average for any position……so yeah….his vertical is good.
#22– Trayvon’s very wouldve been in the top 5 for his position at the combine.
KOH I NOR says a lot of unintelligent things, take it with a grain of salt.
What happen to Kade? Was he tossed in the fire before his body was fully developed?
Football is a rough game and you could be hurt to the point you can’t play anymore or worse.
15. Roster posted

“A-House” I like your comment on how a TE could be used in the RnS. Maybe you should post it in the sports section for “oxtail” to see. He makes it seem that it’s impossible to do but the shifting would solve that I would think.
Change the “title” for the TE position to “Hulk Receiver” and you got a big, strong receiver who can block and catch…isn’t all receivers asked to block and catch at times?
Hmmmn, we appear a little light at dline, maybe a summer pass at Rainbows and all the poi they can handle should be prescribed….
