Sac State QB seeking to join Warriors
Quarterback Kolney Cassel, who played at Sacramento State the past three seasons, is seeking to join the Warriors as a walk-on.
Because he would be a graduate transfer, Cassel would be eligible to compete this season, if the NCAA grants his request for a sixth season. He was sidelined most of the past three seasons while recovering from a shoulder injury.
But when healthy, Cassel possesses a powerful arm and knowledge of the run-and-shoot offense, a scheme the Warriors will use as a base this season.
“He played for me at SMU, and then he transferred to Sacramento State,” former UH coach June Jones said. “He’s got a good arm, a competitive kid.”
As for Cassel’s run-and-shoot background, Jones said, “he’ll remember a lot of it, I’m sure. He was in it for two years.”
Cassel, who grew up in Yakima, Wash., redshirted at SMU in 2013. In 2014, he played in five games, starting against Texas A&M.
He then transferred to Sacramento State, where he played five games before suffering an injury. The recovery limited him to one game each in 2016 and 2017.
During his college career, Cassel has thrown 152 passes without an interception.
The Warriors have five quarterbacks on their spring roster: Cole McDonald, Larry Tuileta, Jeremy Moussa, Kyle Gallup and Justin Uahinui. Saint Louis School senior Chevan Cordeiro joins in June.
Ekahi, Ichi, Uno, One, Foist
Hey burro! I am second. Good competition at QB, Cassel’s RnS background is a plus. Good luck to him and the other QBs. We need a hero in hurry.
GO WARRIORS!!!
It’s good to add a quarterback to the roster. Apparently injured the last couple of years. I welcome him. A lot of noise about the offense, like who’s gonna run it how effective it can be with initial installation available talent to run it etc. If you saw all of the last two seasons and digested the losses including dropped passes, poor on field decisions (not coaching) and quarterback pressure you might agree with me that Coach did a great job developing a QB. I think the above named talent pool with both experience and background is much stronger that it has been. The newbies have talent enough coming from their HS systems, the veterans I think have enough ability to develop beyond what we have had in the past. Bryant Moniz had a lot of ability to make plays and extend plays due to athleticism. I think we have a lot of that now. Don’t think the departed QB had that-that is my opinion. Have not missed any games in several years and have seen several (3-4) live for quite some time. Looking for these guys to provide an awful lot of excitement. The key to this season does not rest on the offense, it is to get those defensive stats under control and keep a clear focus on field position football for victories. This game is not about how many points you score or give up-that is all a derivative of field position football. GoWarriors

Welcome Kolney!
GO WARRIORS; WE BELIEVE!
Well, JC transfers sometimes are good. Interesting thing is the status when they arrive. Financial is always an issue. As you know, KIF, BIIF, and MIL quarterbacks all want in to UH. But there’s only a limited amount. The rule is to sit out one year, then he can play after arriving. Money is needed.
Updates:
other UH sports. LSU runs over UH baseball in LSU. 2-4, 10-0, 14-1, (2-1) series. 26 points to 5 points ( Hawai’i ).
No such thing as Chayce Ka’aua or Kekai Rios. Both did not meet height requirements. But played in LSU. Job…
So you’ll be supporting the players by donating to them. My advise, better be good or correct statistics. Or you get no help from Na Koa.
10,886 attended to watch the baseball game in LSU. They have a bigger program than Hawai’i. 4,387 seats about at UH. Funds available.
Kolney Cassel will be a good addition to the team with his knowledge and experience with the RnS.
It was a success. Honolulu festival. 20 minute firework display last night in Waikiki. On the shores on a barge. Many were there watching the finale event of a 3 day weekend celebration of cultures in Hawai’i.
I’m on facebook. Thanks. Good to see UH fans support each other. But I am not a regular on facebook. Just a fan on facebook. Good luck to your club.
One of the greatest upsets in UH Football History; I believe this 1955 team was honored at a home game in 2015–does anyone know which of these players were present there? The year before; UH was blown out by Nebraska 50-0 in Honolulu. They only brought 28 players to Lincoln and played in 94 degree heat but still outgained the Huskers 318 to 219 yards. Henry “Bruno” Ariyoshi, who played guard on this team, told me they used a 9 man front in this game, an amazing feat considering the Huskers were probably a lot bigger than the UH players.

Look to KOH I NOR, I’ll give you updates on which player got cut from a team, but just want to pay more cash to play at UH football, baseball, softball, volleyball. Call me Mr. Sports guy. Or just KOH I NOR.
Look for Christian Manera, KIF to come back after one year in Henderson University. Senior at KIF. 2019 as a walk on at UH. Arkansas was his choice. KIF makes his move on UH as a walk on in 2020 @ the least time. Still senior at KIF.
Already an invittee is Manera. Red Raiders QB. See Derek Borrero cheering him in at UH quarterback. Count on it. About 2020.
And lastly to sports fans of UH, I’ll be seeing you at the games. Bet on it.
Justin is 6-3 out of Farrington governor’s quarterback. So OIA is also loaded with talent.
By 2020, if Manera signs with UH, the count will be at 7 deep for qb position. Loaded with Hawai’i players. If…
Call me Mr. Sports guy.
Excited. We’ll be on the verge of having a Former UH football player as Lt. Governor, out of KIF. Primary election 2018′. Ooh…
More competition @ QB … gotta love that …

Time moves fast.
It’s been seven years since John Smith retired as the Sacramento State baseball coach.
I remember Jim Leahey’s jokes about Smith being in the witness protection program.
Wasn’t it Sac State that cancelled a home date which forced Herman Frazier to pull Charleston Southern out o his hat during the 2007 season?
Caps, it was a different John Smith.
Make that John L. Smith from Michigan State who pulled out of the 2007 season, forcing Herman Frazier to book Northern Colorado
