Rainbow Wahine hoops unveils 2017-18 roster
The Rainbow Wahine basketball team’s 2017-18 roster has been posted on the UH website and the 15-member group should give head coach Laura Beeman greater depth to work with in her sixth season.
The Wahine were limited to eight players for last season’s opener at USC and 11 eventually saw playing time in a 12-18 campaign. Nine of those players return and junior guards Rachel Odumu and Tia Kanoa join the active roster after being limited to practice duty during their redshirt years. Freshman forward Amy Atwell also sat out last season while rehabbing a knee injury.
The Wahine supplemented the roster with three freshmen — 5-10 guard Jadynn Alexander, 6-3 forward Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard and 6-4 center Lauren Rewers.
UH recently posted a video on Twitter highlighting Rewers.

For the second straight year, the Wahine will have just one senior — All-Big West guard Sarah Toeaina — with five juniors (Kanoa, Odumu, Lahni and Leah Salanoa and Olivia Crawford) and five sophomores (Julissa Tago, Courtney Middap, Keleah-Aiko Koloi, Taylor Donohue and Makenna Woodfolk).
Briana Harris was UH’s lone senior last season and freshman center Adrienne Darden did not return to UH.
Like their chances for conference championship.
I think they’re too young, especially in the front court, to seriously contend for the BW title this season. But they’re well positioned to make a run in 2018.
I should have said, to make a run in 2018-19.
A lot of changes are for the better_
Height and size are impressive, as well as the new Staff.
We’ll be in for a very pleasant surprise!
