For the SandBows looks like it won’t start exactly at 4 because of Pepperdine-Cal Poly just finishing (at 3:55)
Hawaii beat Cal Poly 4-1 this morning, loss came at No. 1 Van Winden-Nelson over Tucker-Martin 21-18, 21-18
Pepperdine beac Cal Poly 5-0, interesting that Van Winden-Nelson moved back to No. 2 against the Waves

Parapunov starting over van Tilburg. everyone the same.
Fisher starting for the Bruins on senior night.
Wow ucla getting a ton of homer calls:/
I wish UH would at least stream the 3-5 pairings online.
3. the stream is connected to TV at the moment so that isn’t happening
Ozee-Zalopany win at No. 5 21-17, 21-18
Warriors win marathon Set 1 41-39
I wish I could’ve seen that 1st set. Whew!
Ucla’s stream is free tonight but low quality.
If the outsides struggle I hope the coaches put in Stijn.
2. Par for the course. That’s why the league needs video replay for ALL venues.
This is how Jennings needs to play for Uh to win it all, offensive and using his big block to make a difference.
8. That aint happening as schools like
San diego and Northridge won’t have the cameras needed for replay at their venues.
UCLA killed themselves in the 1st set, with 15 service errors to UH”s only 3.
Dang, that 1st set was crazy! 41-39. shesh, well good job at closing it out, now for the rest of the match! Let go warriors!
8. That’s why the league needs to provide the standard equpiment. Either that or have 2 more Line judges as in the FIVB.
still hope to see Stijn get swings from the left as Fey is struggling tonight, Parapunov struggling also but his serve is a huge weapon, UH needs this win for insurance policy to get the at large.
Rado is a beast I am sorry but it is absurd he hasn’t played more even as a serving sub he clearly has the best serve on the team.
Warriors win set 2, 25-23. I’m amazed that they’re winning while only hitting .156 for the match.
Wow….Van Tilburg got pulled after set one last night and has not even seen the court other than to serve. He was second in the league in Kill Per Set. Wonder if he is in some kind of doghouse. Maybe never handled the benching well last night? Just asking.
It’s not like Rado is dominating so I thought Van Tilburg would at least see some time.
Still hope he is in for Set 3.
17.Are u even watching? Rado is making a huge difference with timely kills and serves.
Stij got a few swings in set two with Worsley setting . I think he should hit from the left.
Horrible start to set 3.
Beach wins flight 4, now up 2-0 against Pepperdine.
Warrior serve receive imploding.
.20 looks like another televised match where it’s decided before they go on air.
Of course I’m watching you clown. The dude is hitting .147. Stop acting like you some kind of volleyball expert.
UH Beach beats Pepperdine 3-0, with two flights left. Congrats to the team, finally a win over a higher-ranked opponent!
23. i am not and don’t appreciate the name calling why would Stijn if all people be in the doghouse the warriors won 5 sets in a row with Parapunov and why would they change that and its not his hitting percentage that matters he made big plays in pressure situations to get UH the wins in the first two sets!
Everyone is struggling with hitting percentage tonight.
great win for Maglio-Weaver. Set 2 they were up 20-18 Pepperdine goes up 21-20. Maglio ends it 23-21. SandBows also win at Flight 4 Kan and Homayun
Warriors need to regroup and finish this in 4. Very important must win for at large lock.
Happy for the sand bows finally breaking through. pepps 3 team is clearly their best one IMO so it’s a huge win for Mags and Weaver.
23. first warning. No name calling.
Stijn was subbed out because Wade said he wanted to go wth Parapunov someone UCLA didn’t have a clue about.
UCLA wins Set 3 25-18
For men, UH is leading 2 sets to 1 despite being out-hit by 140 pts.
29. First warning, or last warning?
UCLA with 25 more kills than UH, and 18 more service errors and 6 more attack errors.
here’s a link to the video of Maglio/Weaver match point…very exciting
great win by UH men, now two straight quality road wins
33. Link:

HUGE gritty win by the warriors.
Wasn’t pretty but they just got the job done. Players came through and made clutch plays when it mattered and ucla helped with all their serving errors.
Warriors close it out 25-22. big cheer at the Ching SandBox.
31. first and last.
Now warriors just need to take care of business next saturday and hope OSU pulls through in the MIVA tournament (or long beach/BYU if not hawaii in the mpsf tourney) and they will get a shot at the NCAA title in Columbus.
34. Thanks for sharing the link to the winning rally by Emily Maglio. That was one exciting rally with lots of great digs!
37. Exactly what I was hoping for.
I don’t understand the ad nauseam posts about Rado, Rado, Rado and moving Van Tilburg to the left. Why move the best scorer, who produces at the opposite position to another position near the end of the season?! It makes no sense. Parapunov is good, but Van Tilburg is clearly better. This is not women’s volleyball and we are not talking about Kim Willoughby here. I don’t think it’s that simple just moving players around at the tail end of the season.
Any idea as to who UH plays next? Or still too early?
41. It is the hope that the tall Rado won’t be a drop off from Tillburg and Tillburg on left is not a drop off from Tillburg on right. If this was the case, we would have seen this lineup more often, but as the LBSU match proved, reality is a tough teacher. What this team needs, as mentioned by others, is consistently high performance on the left, to seriously challenge the top 3. If the left gets hot (and middle/OPP continue performing), then this team will go far.
34 Thanks for link. It was exciting and loud.

Streaming about to start for beach vb. got the OC logo and music running right now.
The dual has been decided, but i want to see our team try to sweep
41. because the left side hitters struggled at BYu and they struggled again tonight ( fey made clutch plays though)
and struggled earlier against Long Beach State.
Do you stay with the same lineup and be content to finish 3rd /4th nationally or do u take chances to possibly win the national title by having both Stijn and Rado in there?
I think a lot will depend on the MPSF tournament and how the left side hitters do against BYU and Long Beach again.
43. It was just ONE match though I don’t think one match proves anything to be honest.
41. Wholeheartedly agree. I have confidence that the coaching staff puts the best players out on the court. We don’t see what happens everyday in practice. I believe that Stijn wouldn’t be in contention for POY if Rado hadn’t been pushing him all year. Moving Stijn to OH might be in the cards for next year, but let’s finish out this amazing season first. And to whomever thought Rado should have redshirted, I hope you’re eating your words. It’s times like these, when Stijn was struggling that having a backup that’s just as good, is a very good thing.
Who’s the next victim – Pepperdine?
Great team win for SandBows. I caught the tail end of the 1st sets of flight 3 & 4. Gritty win for Mags/Weaver in Set 2. Didn’t want to wait over 1 hour for top flights so I left….going to watch on TV.
41. Previous national champs had POY candidates on the left , Loyola with Jaeschke , Ohio stare with french player ( name escapes me) and Uc Irvine with Tillie.
Just think Stijn on the left should be given a try again, afterall it was just one match where it didn’t work but nothing went right that night against Long Beach.
48. True, but “proof” is an unrealistic standard when the team has played 28 matches. In any case, what is the explanation for not going with Rado on the right and Tillburg on the left? LBSU was a while ago and the hoped for lineup hasn’t materialized. I speculate the coaches feel the drop off in performance would be outweighed by the hoped for benefits, and they have a painful data point. Plus Rado is a freshman, and expectations of him are a bit high right now. He will be awesome, but he needs time to get stronger and mature.
49. Why would I be eating my words I’ve been advocating for Rado to play more all year long .
thought it was ridiculous he barely played against Northridge and did not get to hit more against BYU and did say I preferred he was redshirted instead of barely playing at all.
I am happy coaches finally let Rado play, Stijn wasn’t even struggling against UCLA when he was replaced he was hitting better than the other pin hitters.
43. I know we all wish that – Van Tilburg on the left won’t be a drop-off from van Tilburg on the right, and that Parapunov will produce similar numbers to van Tilburg on the right. But the reality isn’t as simple, is it?
41. Have you thought about what will this do to the passing? Taking one of the current OHs out would mean making van Tilburg pass. Poor passing would result in garbage sets to van Tilburg, effectively cutting his hitting percentage to half, and poor Rado won’t be getting many sets, either. I would bet that the coaching staff has tried this combination in practice, and there has to be good reason why this never made a repeat after LBSU.
Second half of my post was answer to 47.
I think the coaches have in the past stayed with players who struggled too long instead of going with it’s bench. Remember two years ago when Hartley would be on the bench despite hitting .330 on the year and the starters were struggling big time at BYU and against penn state in the ncaa tournament.
51. I know, but van Tilburg is naturally an opposite, right (correct me if I’m wrong)? Listen, I would wholeheartedly agree with you if there was proof that van Tilburg is going to be an effective OH, a role that entails him to be a passer-hitter, unless UH can handle a two-man passing formation.
Were any of the NPOY OHs you mentioned converted from opposite? Jaeschke is still an OH for the NT, right? Tillie is an OH for the French NT, except for last year when he was converted to libero (following an injury, I believe).
Van tilburg came in as a left side player , he played his whole life there.
Its annoying that Robbs and Ma’a are making like these 2 games are actually in play. No mention that the wahine have already won the match.
59. Ratings baby, ratings.
I am Happy with the team and think they have done extremely well to finish 3rd in the league this year but if the lefts struggle again against BYU and Long beach in the MPSF tournament, something needs to be done.
Think you need to roll the dice for a chance to win it all if UH gets the at large.
59. In the NCAA tourney these matches wouldn’t even be finished.
62. If that was the rule in BVB, USC’s Claes and Hughes would have played two matches this year.
58. I didn’t know that. Perhaps they can implement that change next season and van Tilburg can work on his passing. I don’t think the change should be made this season. He is doing a magnificent job at Opposite, except for a couple of matches. Parapunov will get his time next season, I’m sure.
64. I think the coaches should give it a shot if the lefts struggle against BYU/Long beach again
But hopefully Fey and Rosy will play the matches of their lives the next times they face them.
By the way I think Jennings was MVP this weekend, made great decisions and came up huge at the net . I hope he continues to be offensive and patrol the net because he is the key for UH to win it all.
66. Jennings had a near triple double tonight
Schucht-Taylor sweep 21-17, 21-16
SandBows up 4-0
I think UH beach bows can sweep this, hope this means they are peaking towards the end of the season.
Is Rooks transferring to another program?
Think they just made an error in broadcast, Pepperdine does have a few players that also play for Scott Wong’s team.
The other error was about Claes and Hughes not losing. They just lost their first match this year vs. St. Mary’s.
The St Marys top pair seems to be good, they even took the UCLA twins to three sets, so think they will give Martin/Tucker good matches next week.
Another error, about having Morgan Martin play indoor. The announcers don’t know the rule against beach players playing indoors.
Yea Morgan wouldn’t be able to play indoor until her fifth year.
Pepperdine team is LOUD.
Another error, Kathryn Plummer was not the player of the year indoors (it was Minny’s Wilhite), but she was freshman of the year. Ok, I’ll stop now.
Morgan has a beautiful arm swing (said it when I watched her vs. Nebraska). Powerful, efficient.
I do think Martin would make an excellent right side player, not the hops of Nikki. but I agree a powerful swing, good all around play, big block.
Martin makes difficult plays look easy. She’s got so many shots.
Gotta keep reminding myself that Martin is just a freshman.
Tucker is playing well too, very good defense and getting good kills. Powerful swing too.
Darn Tucker and Martin kind of gave that away with lots of errors. Pepperdine is so loud do they know they lost already lol.
Hope UH sweeps.
What a meltdown.
Rooks is done. she should be graduating next May.
82. thanks
I think that’s a bummer as I really thought she was one of the best players on the team. Even commentators( I believe Nicole Branaugh) at last year’s NCAA tournament was gushing about how good she was playing.
Waves take Flight 1 19-21, 21-18, 15-10
still a good night for Hawaii, just the SandBows’ second win in 10 duals with the Waves.
Good win, Tucker and Martin will get them next time hopefully in the NCAA tournament.
Excellent duals win for UH. Only the 14th duals loss in the nearly six-season history of the Waves’ program.
Sorry, 15th duals loss.

86. A few years ago it felt like the talent gap between The Sandbows and the Waves was pretty wide as the Waves kept winning 5-0 but now with UH losing 2-3 twice and winning 4-1 , I think they are about even talent wise.
UH will really miss Nikki and Mikayla next season though.
Maybe one of the tall Canadian recruits will surprise or UH will get Adora Anae to pull a Carly Kan.
89. Agree. Monkhouse looks like the real deal.
Other than 4-1 to USC, all of UH’s losses are 2-3, and all losses to the top 5 teams.
USC is the team to beat, but teams ranked 2 through 6 are fairly even (maybe LSU too at #7, with one bad loss). Then the gap widens with AZ at #8, and the rest of the top 15. So a UH team with momentum can go far in the post-season.
Yea it will take career games by players to beat USC but anything is possible.
USC (hughes, claes, Bukavic, wheeler and Martin) and Pepperdine (3 senior starters) lose a lot of talent , UH loses just two starters so next year should be even tighter.
Makes me wonder how much closer to Pepperdine/USC , UH would be if they hadn’t lost Rooks.
Did UH ever have sand players that played together as youths and then came to UH and played together again? Cali Bunn and Sydney Kidd played and accomplished great thing together. Obvious choice is to pair them together in the future right?
Huddleston and Schucht played together as juniors as did Kan and Higgins.
I agree regarding Monkhouse. Great all around player with a heavy arm. Wish she would play indoors. She looks like a natural opposite hitter.
I know she would impact our indoor team as a natural and gifted all around pin hitter. Good get for the beach, but indoors lost a good one. I hate that beach coaches have to fight for the same recruits and the girls have to decide which one they want to pursue and get a scholie from. Oh well, I’m still glad she’s going to be a Rainbow Wahine.
Congrats to the MVB & WBVB teams yesterday, and the Senior leadership getting the job done. Lots to look forward to next week.
Q: I didn’t see Castillo on the sidelines yesterday, on TV or videos. Status change? or was she there?
Today, WBVB: LBSU 5-0 over Concordia; UCLA 3-2 over LBSU.
I know this is a very slim chance, but I hope LBSU and BYU lose their 1st round MPSF matches and Hawai`i wins so we get to see them at home for at least 2 more times… 3 times if they win out. But of course, the big picture is winning the National Championship.
Given that NCAA regulations limit the amount of practice time/week it is understandable that RAMS (Robyn Ah-Mow Santos) wants the indoor players to spend that time on the hardwood.
Coincidentally, if the girls desire a career playing professionally then indoors is the preferred venue. Sponsorship, for beach pairs, is not easy to come by; whereas getting a steady salary from a European professional team pays the bills.
Although some players try to do both (sand and indoors) it does take a toll on the body (and academics). Specifically, injuries can derail any prospects of playing professionally.
Would like the sandbows to go after Tia Scambray or Chrissy jones as grad transfers for next year with them UH could seriously contend for a national title.
