  13. wafan December 12, 2009 8:37 am

Was Esme practicing her Mom-Look? Or was it during a Grinch Look-a-Like contest?

I would say she has it down.

  14. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 8:38 am

….darn… ran out of gas on that run…. 🙁

  24. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:42 am

No scones for me either. Sauteed breadfruit and eggs over easy with a heavy dose of curveball’s 2x chili peppah watah.

Brew- I made my reservations for PDX- April 10-25.

INTERESTING- HA miles for my interisland legs would have been 17,000 points! WTH???

I got my ROUNDTRIPS from Go! for 5,000 points!!!

Wow- great Wildcat run… into the red zone!

  25. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:42 am

  27. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:43 am

  28. d1島 December 12, 2009 8:44 am

    DEFENSE!

  29. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 8:45 am

    Liz:
JaM can’t kill me because Esme is going to kill me.

  30. wafan December 12, 2009 8:45 am

How come some do not look like they are having much fun?

Must have been scolded by Jason for not paying attention to the directions.

  31. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:46 am

Cool comment- “suddenly there are 2,000 head coaches in the stands”.
WW has 4th and goal from the 2.

  32. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 8:46 am

Thanks again to Myki for the cookies.
And to Slugger for the biscotti.
And to the A-Houses for The Advertiser Christmas Fund donation.

  33. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:47 am

Cookies? Biscotti? donations? …. I got one (used) charcoal briquet…. 😥

  37. wafan December 12, 2009 8:49 am

    Mr. Tsai . . .

I would not worry about the dying.

I would be terrified, though, of the pain both Esme and JaM will provide you.

  38. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 8:50 am

We had quite a night. Our neighbor (not A-House) fainted twice (new medicine). He went to the hospital, but he’s doing better.

  39. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:50 am

Yeah- ST- I would remove 2 of those shots before Esme wakes up…

  40. wafan December 12, 2009 8:50 am

    Brew . . .

Wow, did not even rate a lump of coal?

  41. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 8:50 am

If I’m going to die, I guess I can add one more Esme pic.

  42. d1島 December 12, 2009 8:51 am

    It’s halftime.

It’s a balmy 37 degrees but the band still refuses to come out for the halftime show!

  43. koakane™ December 12, 2009 8:52 am

Halftime for Linfield. Hope they can warm up!

Speaking of cookies. Today is cookie baking day for me.

  45. d1島 December 12, 2009 8:52 am

    Oh my!

    Take care A-house.

  46. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 8:53 am

  47. d1島 December 12, 2009 8:53 am

That last one should do it!

    heheheh

  48. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:54 am

OMG, ST- with flowers or flowers omitted?

  49. LizKauai [iMac] Go 'Cats and Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:59 am

Brew- chantilly cake by Thrifty Mart is one of the finest anywhere. Delicate, light-as-a-feather chocolate (like German chocolate cake, but lighter) layers separated by lightly sweetened whipped cream instead of frosting.

I cannot bring this to the T-gates because it needs refrigeration and cannot be frozen like the lilikoi chiffon pies. Besides, TSA would never let it through and would have to “confiscate” it for testing. 😆

  50. koakane™ December 12, 2009 8:59 am

shouting out goes to d1, mrs, brent and wildcat team ….. go get um

brew was that one lump or two 😐 , wafan inquiring mind keep asking when dat buggah ❓ coming home,

  51. LizKauai [iMac] Go 'Cats and Wahine! December 12, 2009 9:01 am

  57. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 9:17 am

    No flowers.
    I wouldn’t want flowers when I’m alive.

  58. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 9:19 am

Whoah….. looks like one mug shot! Do they let you keep the earings on when they take those pix? Is there a matching one (profile) from the HPD? 🙄

  59. Stephen Tsai December 12, 2009 9:20 am

Wena says I have to take down the Esme shots.
So enjoy ’em for another hour.

  60. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 9:22 am

Actually…. the last two are just like the “before/after” photos from:
    – cosmetic surgery ads
    – drug recovery programs
    – depression therapy ads
    – before/after one whacks the photographer event….

    😯 🙄 😆

    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

Thank you for a great time at the party last night and for the yummy goodies (or so I heard ’cause I didn’t get to try it before someone ate it all). ST, thank you for the prizes. Bummer we won’t get to use um.

    Esme-

I didn’t realize there were so many different sides to you. You are a complex woman. The first picture is my favorite. The finishing touch would be JJ’s Bah Humbug hat.

    Koakane-

Uh…(in #43) “whew just made it” ……does that mean “home”?
Thanks to you and JJ for planning the party.

  66. LizKauai [iMac] Go 'Cats and Wahine! December 12, 2009 9:57 am

    A-Joe – 😆 Mahalo!

  67. NYUH December 12, 2009 10:00 am

Army – Navy game. Bet Army was interested in the UH-Navy game. I used to like the Navy offense but I really didn’t get how nasty those cut-blocks are.

  68. Pomai December 12, 2009 10:01 am

Sailor Blue must not be too happy as Army is giving them a game!!

  69. Addahknowsports© December 12, 2009 10:02 am

    LizK-

Thank you for the Santa hat. A-joe was looking for his red and white santa hat but couldn’t find so he ended up wearing his Indiana Jones/Football Season Down-in-Front hat that we had to dress up.

  86. LizKauai [iMac] Go 'Cats and Wahine! December 12, 2009 10:39 am

I gotta wait to see the A-N game. #2 son just came home from boogieboarding… he did a faceplant on his board… owww… He’s taking over the TV for a little while.

  87. Bulla December 12, 2009 10:44 am

    Great season ‘Cats

  88. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 10:51 am

When is the Wahine match and is it being broadcasted? I have the cal-Penn State audio on after the Linfield game but can’t find Hawaii.

  89. wafan December 12, 2009 10:54 am

    Jason . . .

No blood! Too much to worry about that way.

  90. RedZone December 12, 2009 10:55 am

I like Army’s victory formation. The backs face inward to be there is case of a fumble then rotate foward to block.

  91. wafan December 12, 2009 11:01 am

    Liz . . .

What kind of cookies are you making? I guess i will do mine when I get home. Maybe. Hopefully, some of the batter gets to the oven!

  92. wafan December 12, 2009 11:03 am

Too bad for the ‘Cats. Use this year as a lesson for next year!

    Hopefully, the Warriors do, too!

  93. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 11:08 am

    Navy up… 7-3…

  96. wafan December 12, 2009 11:47 am

    Liz . . .

Yum! I use the Snoqualmie Oats for oatmeal-raisin cookies. But, CCC, the original receipe, is still my favorite with a tall glass of ice-cold milk.

  97. wafan December 12, 2009 11:49 am

    97

  98. wafan December 12, 2009 11:51 am

    Can we get to 100?

  99. wafan December 12, 2009 11:51 am

    Navy up 3 – 10.

  100. wafan December 12, 2009 11:51 am

  103. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 12:23 pm

Navy shutting down Army in the second half. … doing unto others as others have done upon them.

  104. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 12:25 pm

    Oops.. here comes Army!

  105. Pride. December 12, 2009 12:31 pm

MIH. Is that a misprint? It says – Army wide receiver, 6-10 283 lbs?

  106. wafan December 12, 2009 12:35 pm

    Pride. . . .

No. He is 6-10, and trimmed down from 315.

    Unreal.

He just cannot hold on to the ball.

  107. al December 12, 2009 12:40 pm

    where are we put them….

with well over a dozen scholie offers out on the table, what happens if they all commit???

perhaps some have already fallen off the table for one reason or another. but it will be interesting. i guess management will get creative with the greyshirts and stuff.

seems like we may have taken too many early commits again????

  108. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 12:42 pm

6’10″… cannot hold onto ball.. maybe that’s why he’s not playing basketball, eh?

It’s amazing how these tall guys are becoming more and more agile these days. I remember when just about anyone over 6’6″ was just lanky and clumsy and doctors worried about the wear and tear of their bodies if they participated in fast paced sports. Of course there were a handful of exceptions, but today, those exceptions seems to be the norm.

  109. wafan December 12, 2009 12:42 pm

First game in which UH was not involved that I can remember the ESPN folks spoke positively of the Warriors.

  110. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 12:43 pm

    al,..

I suppose right now.. it’s first come.. first serve..

  111. wafan December 12, 2009 12:48 pm

Villanueva, the 6-10 guy, is thinking of swimming for Army. Dang. Would he have an advantage of some sort with body length and arm reach?

  112. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 12:50 pm

Could use him for third and short as well… four steps.. turn.. go up.. come down.. slide…

  113. wafan December 12, 2009 12:57 pm

For a good laugh at Americans looking very foolish, watch the American Ninja Warrior.

    Absolutely hilarious.

  114. wafan December 12, 2009 12:59 pm

  115. PowderPuff December 12, 2009 1:14 pm

    Where did everyone go?

In case you don’t have the U – you can watch WVB streaming at –

    http://www.justin.tv/prd74_2

I’m watching the Minn/FSU match. I don’t like cheering for the beeg10, but there’s no way I’m going to pull for the bogus #3-seed in FSU. Besides – Minn has a player named Tabitha Love….. sweet! 😀

Someone once sent me a recipe for holiday fruit cake. I lost it – but only remember you needed to take a sip of 151 between every step, before you added each ingredient (got lots in fruit cake), etc.

    I never finished…. 😆

Wow, I wonder if they also showed football
games we the poor people don’t get in Hawaii???

  127. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 2:37 pm

    yes

  128. Garret December 12, 2009 2:41 pm

Bess has earned all of the respect he’s getting…

CBS analyst Steve Tasker doesn’t mince words when it comes to defining Davone Bess and his place among the Dolphin receivers.

“He’s better than the rest of those guys, that’s all there is to it,” Tasker said. “Ted Ginn Jr. is a kick returner. (Brian) Hartline and (Greg) Camarillo are complementary guys. They don’t have any quality receivers except Bess.”

Bess has been a revelation almost since he signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii in May 2008. His 54 catches last season was just two behind Ginn, the former first-round pick, for the team lead.

Offensive coordinator Dan Henning said playing in coach June Jones’ pass-happy system at Hawaii prepared the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Bess for the NFL.

“I guarantee you that he’s caught more balls than any 23-year-old on the planet,” Henning said. “If you go to June’s practices, with the run and shoot, that’s all they do.”

  129. Garret December 12, 2009 2:43 pm

Bess’ agent is not in a hurry to get a long-term deal done with Miami…since he knows that Miami cannot afford to lose him and the closer he gets to free agency, the more leverage Bess has.

Bess also just might be the best bargain in the NFL. The two-year, $687,000 deal he signed upon arrival pays him $385,000 this year, and the Dolphins have exclusive rights to his services next year, meaning he’ll receive only a marginal raise.

“There’s no sense of urgency on our behalf or their behalf,” his agent, Kenny Zuckerman, said when asked about a possible extension. “Something may come up down the road, but we know he’s doing well and they know they can’t lose him.”

Back from my meetings plus a sad visit to our veterinarian’s office. Both Jazzpurrs The Cat and Saturn The Dog are entering the last few weeks of their lives; they are still pain-free and being actively involved with the family, but ……

ESPN 1420 will be broadcasting the Wahine match live starting around 6:15. The men’s basketball game will be on K5 starting at 7 pm so those of you who are staying home and have hoitsy-toitsy cable can flip back & forth between the two. The basketball radio broadcast is a couple of stations to the left of 1420.

We’re heading into town in about half an hour to watch the Texas Nebraska match at a sports bar somehwere before going up to the Stan Sheriff Center to the basketball game.

A quick reminder about the HI-5 fundraiser tomorrow – visit http://www.waa-hawaii.org/waaclndr.htm for details. All donors will receive a plant from Hui Ku Maoli Ola Native Hawaiian Plants and a candy cane as a mahalo gift.

Before I forget…. several of you earlier kept referring to WW. What does that stand for?

  133. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 3:06 pm

    #3-seed (& #4) => Phffftttttttttttttt!!!!! 😈

  134. Garret December 12, 2009 3:07 pm

Texas is the top seed in their region, the #2 volleyball team in the country, and they have to play Nebraska in Nebraska to get to the Final Four. You can imagine that Texas is quite unpopular in the state of Nebraska right now due to the Big 12 football championship game, so Texas will be facing a *very* motivated crowd and team tonight.

I think that the Wahine team will beat Michigan tonight–I thought that facing Stanford in Palo Alto would be a tough challenge, so I was happy that Michigan won. However, the way that Michigan beat Stanford shows that they will be very, very hard to beat.

  135. βρεω808 December 12, 2009 3:12 pm

Texas might lose to (Texas), but I expect Texas to smoke Neb. 🙄

Mich looked solid and will be a challenge…. hope they peaked and spent their energy/enthusiasm. Too bad AK appears out. 😐

  137. Garret December 12, 2009 3:18 pm

    brew808,

It is bad that AK will probably not play today, but hopefully another player or two will have great games in her place. Hopefully Michigan has a letdown after playing at such a high level against Stanford…but they will be hard to beat tonight no matter what.

Thanks to all last night for a great time. Sorry I had to leave so early but had a medical family issue to deal with after getting a call from my mom’s MD last night. I’ll let everyone know about it in a bit.

Thanks to KK for all his efforts in planning the party last night. Bruddah was awesome. And don’t worry, I have the money and will be donating that to the Advertiser Christmas Fund on behalf of the Tsaikos….

    Talk to everyone later.

Here is hoping L&L is having a great visit today with the Warriors. Hopefully the same is happening to the two Issaquah bruddaz. The three of them could really help our Warriors psychologically and physically. The main thing, they gotta want to be Warriors. Get past that, and all is possible.

  155. d1島 December 12, 2009 5:49 pm

    (J)J,

  156. bighilofan2 December 12, 2009 5:50 pm

Main thing too, they want to be the best of the best. We got that kind mentality in the middle of the Pacific. Bryan Clay has made Hawaii proud. BJ Penn has made Hawaii proud. These guys can help our team if they try to be their best for us and themselves.

  213. expat December 12, 2009 7:56 pm

Hell yeah! Congratulations Wahine! Thank God the Big 10 is not going to have three teams in the final four. That would be too much.

As nice as it is Penn State has won *100* in a row. That is beyond nuts. I think that since the Big 10 has two teams in the final four indicates that Penn State plays in a challenging league.

The ladies have to bring their absolute best game. But, hey. Gotta believe.

  214. Jason December 12, 2009 7:56 pm

  225. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:13 pm

    PATHETIC! SIMPLY PATHETIC!!!

MICHIGAN TOOK PENN STATE TO 5… SO WHAT?

MICHIGAN BEAT STANFORD AT STANFORD IN FOUR LAST NIGHT… SO WHAT?

Despite our errors that should have been costly, we only sweated 2.5 sets in this entire regional!!!

Just like D1 just mentioned, “12th seed my OKOLE!!!”

Pre season predictions, I guessed that the Wahine would have fallen short a match ago, well, gladly they have proven me wrong!!!! 😳 ( 😉 )

Earlier in the year, it was pretty evident that Penn State and Texas are a mile above the rest and that includes us, BUT looking at the final 8 then now the final 4, the reality is, that while Penn State and Texas are on a “seperate” level than us, it appears that we are also on a seperate level than everyone ranked in the AVCA poll behind us at #3.

Seeing the emotion in the eyes of our ladies tonight was just priceless and seeing Dave Shoji leap in joy like this was his first season was just great.

CONGRATS TO THE PRIDE OF HAWAI’I!!! OUR RAINBOW WAHINE!!!

(Now, what to do about Penn State?)

  226. wafan December 12, 2009 8:13 pm

(tonight’s game was on Oceanic PPV)

  231. al December 12, 2009 8:16 pm

    congratulations to the rainbow wahine!

i liked what shoji said on the post game interview. he politely said that penn state with their 100 win streak has to fall sooner or later.

    believe.

  232. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:17 pm

    Ralph,

I stayed home for the Wahine game. I think my neighbors were wondering if UH football was on the tube due to the excessive profanity and loud cheering coming from my living room… 😆

Chawan told me he’d be representing at the Stan Sheriff Center tonight… Well that’s what he claimed… 😉

  233. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:25 pm

    808ike,

    WHERE YOU AT SIR?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? CELEBRATE!!!

Seriously though, the Wahine have come out passing poorly in the first sets. Good thing for us a combination of over-rated opponents and strong resolve by the Hawaii players and coaching staff resulted in good recoveries.

Against Penn State, the cliche of limiting errors comes into place again. For a brief moment, it seemed like our offensive attack from our middles was going to take more precedence than it usually does tonight, but that wasn’t the case…

Stephanie Ferrell, who had her big struggles during the regular season and even the WAC tourney, is having a GREAT postseason.

Brittany Hewitt is proving she can hold her own against better opponents than weak conference foes.

Tonight, Stephanie Brandt didn’t have an outstanding game, but still proves to be important in the rotation much like Jayme Lee’s service role.

Passing and the defense around the 3m line needs to be cleaned up. They gotta work on their serve receive as there are some gunners on Penn State and can throw them off right off the bat.

It’s not impossible, but apparently the first REAL test against real competition in the post season is coming at a very crucial time.

  234. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:26 pm

    CHEEEHOOOO!!!

  237. al December 12, 2009 8:29 pm

i think that ferrell coming out party started just on time.
she has been the mvp so far.

glad to here the announcers pay tribute to the year long mvp of this team, aneli cubi-otineru.

the unsung hero at the same time is dani mafua.

nothing against the hammer, danielson. her talents are a given.

the surprise of the year is brittany hewitt.

and how about the job alexis forsythe did last night.

kaufmann playing tonight was never a surprise. she may be the toughest kid we have had on this team for a long time. reminsicent of tita ahuna back in the day.

hey, this team resembles tita’s team back in the day. everyone overlooked them. team first and defense was the vehicle.

    florida here we come.

  238. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 12, 2009 8:31 pm

    Ralph:

Hewitt is bringing it, earlier in the season she would only hit a place shot, no power.

That’s VERY early in the season. Also early in the season, she had breakout games with her blocking against UCLA and Stanford.

Hewitt was getting some crap about her play against WAC opponents, but he play has not fallen off a bit from the WAC tourney to the sub regionals to tonight.

Towards the latter middle of the year and the end of the season you could see Hewitt was seeing the backcourt much better. Then the confidence came to just pound it in no matter who the opponent was.

  240. Ralph December 12, 2009 8:33 pm

Nash needs 18 wins for a roll over, he will have 5 after tonight, In a 30 game season, he has 21 games left. He needs to finish at least 13-8 the rest of the way. Next game is tournament opener with College of Charleston, currently 5-3, with games with Charleston Southern and Clemson before coming to Hawaii.

  241. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:36 pm

    Al,

I missed the radio broadcast of the game last night. All I knew was Forsythe came in for a hurt Kaufman and the blocking came to play in the 2nd set to get us that 25-10 win.

Good for her. She seems to be physically ready, well more than, to play at this level and to start at this level. I think she’ll be big for us next season. Hewitt is a lock, but after that, the depth of the middle position will remain a mystery for now.

We’ll be hard-pressed to find starters like Amber Kaufman, Aneli Cubi-Otineru and a great off the bench contributer like Stephanie Brandt for a while. Hope I am wrong.

  242. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:42 pm

Hewitt was the surprise earlier in the season, now, just like Kanani, we just expect good performances on a match to match basis.

I think the “quiet” surprise of the season is the hustle and effort displayed by Ka’aihue.

She came into this season off of an injury-filled 2008 and she came in good shape and seems much faster in reacting to digs than I expected her to, but then again we never really got to see too much of her prior to this season. Replacing a pure athlete like Tara Hittle last year was a concern I had at the libero position before the season started, but Ka’aihue has done the job well.

  243. Pomai December 12, 2009 8:42 pm

Dang we get in the final four and still then get on us like we are second rate!!! You watch when we win the National Championship they will still find something nasty to say………….. to heck with them.

Emily Hartong is an excellent jump server out of Los Al. She is 6’1. I saw her hit the slide. 6’3 Waber will compete with Corrine for an OH spot and I don’t know where Shoji will look at RS Tuaniga who is 6’1 to 6’2l.

They seed us at #12 and we take care of this entire regional with the exception of one set and a fraction from USC and one lone set from Illinois, yet not much in the way of respect.

  249. Kazz December 12, 2009 8:55 pm

    Ralph,

I think Tuaniga is listed as a middle.

So the middles next season look like:

    Hewitt
    Forsythe
    Tuaniga
    Hartong
    Mitchell

If Coach Shoji says Hartong is “Kaufman-like” then he’ll have to evaluate the roles for Tuaniga and Mitchell.

Forsythe has been steady enough at times this season to be able to compete to play alongside Hewitt.

Alexis needs to work on foot speed, UH runs a quick offense, she can’t expect to stand next to mafua to get a set. Without footwork there is no slide set for her. when she gets to the pins she is a formidable blocker, at least she slows the ball down like she did last night

  260. Ralph December 12, 2009 9:19 pm

surprising that Alabama next had a Heisman trophy winner before Ingram won it.

  261. Kazz December 12, 2009 9:24 pm

Mr. Ingram’s Heisman speech just seemed so genuine, you can’t help but feel happy for the guy.

Glad to see the Hesiman go to someone in which the media didn’t take it upon themselves to craft and sell him as some sort of moral/holier-than-thou figure than can do no wrong. 🙄

Mr. Ingram won this one by his play on the field. Good for him!

  262. Ralph December 12, 2009 9:25 pm

MIH I don’t know what happened, iguardPc and the pop ups disappeared today. I switched spyware and malware software. Dropped Adware SE Personal, Spyblaster and Spybot and up loaded IOrbit malware and Hijack This per CNET editors choice. Couldn’t upgrade AVG AV to 9.0, some registry Key is blocking it from being up loaded. It mentioned that spyware can be a reason so I dropped the three old spywares and went with IOrbit.

  275. madeinhawaii December 12, 2009 10:14 pm

    Ralph,

Hijack this basically records what programs and modules are loading… it will report changes from the last time you ran Hijack… It also can recognize a few malware and virus. It’s a great tool if you know what to look for but can be dangerous if you delete something that shouldn’t be deleted.

The link that I provided gives more detail on the various tools and anti-virus software that can be used. Thing is, make sure you do a “review” check on any anti-virus you plan to install. Some are fake programs that simply install their own virus to find, make you panic and ask for money to remove it..

    .

  276. Jason December 12, 2009 10:22 pm

And in the Tsai-ko production of It’s a Wonderful Life, Ralph stars as Mr. Potter. 😛

HijackThis is a great program, but it’s very, very powerful. Anyways, Ralph, I actually recommend avast! Antivirus over AVG. And if you have a 32-bit version of Windows, then you can run a boot-time scan using avast! that might be more effective.

Sorry for the misinformation about the men’s basketball game broadcast, but that was what I was told by K5 & ESPN 1420. I have no idea why it was PPV. Set your recorders to pick up the re-broadcast at 10 Sunday.

So what did the ESPNU announcers say about the Wahine? The radio broacast was pro-Wahine. I thought the announcer was going to stroke out, he got so excited. We brought a radio into the Stan Sheriff Center – whenever we tuned in to catch up on the match, everyone around us leaned over to hear what was going on.

The Wahine fans in Stanford were loud – at least over the radio. How many were there? What’s going to happen in Tampa? Anyone here on the blog going to attend? Maybe what we ought to do is arrange for a webcast on our end – I’m sure that the facility will be wifi-ed – so that the team can hear us yelling our heads off.

Does anyone which game will be the Penn State/Hawai`i game – the one at 2 pm pr 4 pm Hawai`i time?

Saw Chawan_Cut in the Manoa Maniacs section as usual, but that was it as far as I could tell from Tsai-ko Tsity folks. What we saw tonight was a portent of some really great things to come. As for Bill Amis – I’ve read that if he cannot play by tournament time in 10 days, he’ll apply for a medical redshirt extension rather than go into the NBA draft next spring without playing this year until maybe the end of the season.

    Hawaiianbod,

Thank you for your prayers, love and support; it is so much appreciated by our family.

We feel so sorry to see him in pain and can’t do anything to help.

it is going to take longtimer a longtime to recover. but, in the end he will be “all good”.

and yes the power of prayer is very healing.

    Aloha, Tsaiko Ohana!

Thanks for the gracious hospitality, good food, fun, games, and prizes at last night’s Christmas party. It was so nice to see all the familiar faces, and take part in the holiday celebration.

Thank you ST for creating this blog and helping it evolve into this amazing group.

I apologize for not circulating and greeting each of you. I’ve had my own medical issues this last week, and yesterday was the first day out in the world for any significant time. Please know that Mrs Lopaka and I greatly appreciate the time we have spent with you. What an interesting and varied group!!

What a great game by the Wahine tonight!! So determined, steady, and together in the face of adversity. We are going to always remember this team as one of the best we have ever had in their resilience and the strength across the entire lineup.

    Go Wahine!! Go Warriors!!

  292. Hawaiianbod December 13, 2009 1:48 am

Mrs LTUHF – you’re welcome, however no thank you is needed. that’s what family members do for one another (give love, emotional support and offer words of encouragement).

i will continue to pray for LTUHF (Uncle), even after he is healed.

please take care of yourself. your Tsaiko Ohana is here for you.

    God Bless!

  293. nd, andHawaiianbod December 13, 2009 2:04 am

    Samson update:

C Samson Satele was limited in practice after missing three quarters of the Pittsburgh game with a calf injury, but is expected to start at center against Washington.

  302. Garret December 13, 2009 5:29 am

Reports out of Cleveland say that the Browns should have kept David Veikune at OLB (the position they drafted him for) instead of moving him to ILB.

The way we hear it, there’s some sentiment in Cleveland that the Browns erred by moving rookie David Veikune — a defensive end at Hawaii — to inside linebacker. Veikune, whom many expected to play outside linebacker in the Browns’ 3-4 scheme, has had little impact this season, notching no tackles in 10 games.

Wondering when one of the big schools will notice the type of job that Bobby Hauck has done at Montana. Can’t believe that no one’s taken a chance on him yet. His record over the last five years has been quite remarkable.

2005 8-4 Lost in 1st round of NCAA playoffs
    2006 12-2 Lost in Semi-Finals
2007 11-1 Lost in 1st round of playoffs
    2008 14-2 Lost in finals
    2009 14-0 In Finals

  316. Pride. December 13, 2009 6:28 am

Congrats to the Linfield Wildcats on a fine season.

  317. Pride. December 13, 2009 6:41 am

Congrats to the Wahine for making it to the final four. Much luck to Dave Shoji and the team in the semi-finals against Penn State. Don’t worry about winnning, don’t worry about the outcome of the game. Just do your absolute best, and leave everything out on the court. If you do that, you’ll be a winner no matter what the score is.

Some people worry about looking good. No need look good. Just DO good and BE good. Everything else will work out for the best.

  318. Pride. December 13, 2009 6:48 am

Congratulations to Buffalo head coach Turner Gill on getting the Kansas head football coaching job. Gill coached four years at Buffalo and won the MAC championship in 2008.

    2008 8-6
    2009 5-7

  319. bighilofan2 December 13, 2009 6:50 am

Paraphrasing HA’s Wes Nakama. the high school guy:

“On paper, it’s easy to set goals and a … plan to achieve them… But it can’t hurt to have other alternatives ready, just in case that wall pops up out of nowhere …”

Got me to thinking about the high school recruiting going on right now.

I disagree that a Hawaii raised quarterback will increase the fan base.
More recently, Colt, who was not from here, and Timmy Chang, showed me that winning wll increase the fan base. Von Appen showed me that winning will increase the fan base.

Coaches, go get the best of the best. And polish up ourselves too. 😀

BTW, hope you’re having a great time with the 2 Issaquah Eagles.
Are they tough enough to be Warriors? Just curious 😉

  320. LizKauai [iMac] Go Wahine! December 13, 2009 6:50 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

Lopaka43, RainbowCliff, Bod, LTUHF, W-Doc and menagerie – complete healing and contentment, whatever the ailment or distress!

Today is cantata day! Waimea UCC at 10AM.

    HTTR!

    Rajah dat Pride!

Wanting to play your best with the best is what it’s all about. This Wahine team has what it takes.

I have no doubt that they will give the true fans of VB a display of all out firepower they have never seen before. Penn St. had better bring their lunch, because Kanani will smack her best shots at them from every angle! Great all-around team play will take care of the rest.

    Let’s Go Bows!

  322. Bulla December 13, 2009 7:38 am

    Pride,

Merry Christmas, long time no see. I totally agree with you, control what you can control, focus on that, and everything else will fall into place. Pursue everything in the spirit of excellence, and it is amazing what will happen.

    Have a blessed day 🙂

  323. Bulla December 13, 2009 7:41 am

    318 Pride,

I agree, Hauck has a winning program in Montana, and he has generated a ton of revenue for the school. Ironically, they were one of the schools who were very interested in ryan, but there was a coaching change and bobby’s brother went back to the NFL i believe. Long story short, Missoula is a great stadium to play in, the Hall of Fame is literally a 100 yd hall that you walk through to get to the game….has all of their athletes enshrined there…very, very, impressive.

In the game of football where winning vs. whining is a priority, Hauck has done a good job.

  324. bighilofan2 December 13, 2009 8:03 am

    Pride 315

wats your take on the beef between Bobby Hauck and da U Montana student newspaper? seems like a few girlie girly and girlie men have gone way outta their way to fight with him, even to the point of putting the other team’s coach (Cal Poly) on the cover of their GameDay for that game. the student newspaper no less. and those student newspaper peeps have blogs and their journalism professor 6 weeks ago favored his students against their now 14-0 coach. the UM prexy cannot belittle the 14-0 coach. its obvious the players are backing up their coach for backing them up, yet privately he busted up the two players and called the [victim] student’s parents, but kept it outta the press. I’m thinking about all the evil newspaper reporters out there, like the Tiger Woods drama, wanna know the names of all 40,000 hose, pictures of their parents. excluding ST of course. 😀

I say good for coach Hauck!

If the Wahine can beat the unbeaten Penn State Team, the psychological edge they would have could carry them all the way! Let’s hope that scenario plays out because we all know that outside of the Team, Coaching staff & UH fans, few people will give the Wahine a snowball’s chance. What they can’t see is that this team is very special!

  332. Kevin Gassen December 19, 2009 7:50 am

Well-written. Thanks. I have been learning a lot about Asian cooking lately. There are a lot of creative recipes using rice out there, the trick is finding one that really brings out the flavor of the rice you are using. If you’d like to see my blog it’s here. Thanks again for this blog – it is really well-done.
