Football operations

Imagine organizing a banquet five days a week for five months.

As director of football operations, Lois Manin did the equivalent of that from the start of training camp through the Hawaii Bowl. And that tripled during road trips.

Manin also represented Nick Rolovich at functions, directed daily operations of the football office, wrote speeches and reports, served as liaison between the program and the athletic department and Upper Campus, managed the football budget’s allocation and … well, there actually were three pages of duties, all in 10-point print, detailing her work. At least that was what listed in the posting for her successor.

Yes, in a reorganization, Manin is now assisting athletic director David Matlin in day-to-day operations of the athletic department. Associate athletic director Carl Clapp has been helping with fund-raising as Koa Anuenue makes the transition to the hiring of a new director.

And Jimmy Morimoto, a highly respected worker, is now director of football operations.

Morimoto served as director of player personnel at UNLV and then Fresno State. He’s sharp, connected and a grinder. He also fits the UH work ethic. Two days after joining the staff, there were two unpacked suitcases in his office.

Congratulations to Lois Manin a well deserved promotion for all your loyalty and diligence.

Welcome aboard Jimmy Morimoto. Maui no ka oi as my Waikiki/Kahului brothers would say.

Thank you Lois Manin and welcome home coach Morimoto. Kung hee fat choy. I truly miss the traditional Chinese food our family friend used to make and deliver to our home for Chinese new year. Plus on Maui it is hard to find authentic chinese food. Now if I was with al,stretch, and sleeze in Honolulu, we would still be in a Chinese restaurant eating. Duffer would be full and sleeping in the car.
