Warrior Friday: Riley, “The Voice,” new o-lineman, workout pics

Hey, we’re running late, so let’s get this thing started.

Congrats to Riley Wallace for his induction into the UH Circle of Honor:

F20

Also, congrats to “The Voice” — Jim Leahey — for also earning a plaque in the Stan Sheriff Center.

Both are truly deserving.

Here’s the story: Circle of Honor inductees

Some fun facts about Brandon Kipper, UH’s new offensive line recruit:

> He is 6 feet 6 1/2, but doctors project he is due another growth spurt after reviewing X-rays of his legs. He said he’s grown an inch each of the past several summers. He has a 7-foot uncle.

> He is the 2016 Idaho state high school wrestling champ in the heavyweight division. He also was recognized as an All-America wrestler. He received a wrestling scholarship from George Mason (the university, not the late Pacific Business News publisher).

> He will compete at tackle at UH.

No wonder Trayvon Henderson hits like a brick wall. He’s built like one.

Still growing! Brandon might grow to 7″. Is it possible to be too tall for football? I suppose if he does grow that tall, then switch to basketball?

  9. shadowado January 27, 2017 3:33 pm

Always can find a place for great size (or speed) in football. Ed “TooTall” Jones (Dallas Cowboys) did great things at DE.

careful when mixing up the ” for inches and the ‘ for feet…

Scratch RB Drake Beasley. He committed to Boise State. Besides the rest of the recruits I’m looking forward to the preferred walk ons. A diamond in the rough sleeper like Kaimana Padello.

  12. Peskadot January 27, 2017 4:38 pm

Kiko look built like Sopoaga. Hope he can be as destructive next season.

  13. Ipu Man January 27, 2017 5:10 pm

UH ought to hang Riley’s sport coat in a Koa frame
    at the Stan Sheriff Center…

My wish list for the next 6 commitments.

    1) Afemui, OLB 3 star recruit on scout.com, 6’2″ 215 from Maui High.
    2) Miles Reed, RB, 5’9 190. 3 star rated. 2,000+ yard runner last year. Centennial HS, a top level school in Calif.
    3) Victor Bates, Athlete, don’t know if he visited, but BYU is after him also. In the top 10 in California as an ATH. E3 star rated player.
    4) Chris Green, DE 6’2″ 270. 3 star rated player. I think he visited earlier and UH was in on him first.
    5) Miki Suguturaga, DE, 6’5″ 260 from Punahou, 3 star rated. Has UH low interest for him so he’s probably looking at the mainland. If not,
    5) Kesi Ah Hoy, if not
    5) Deandre Morgan, DE, 6’3 230. 2 star, but this guy rushes the passer and has a lot of sacks. I believe he visited earlier.
    6) A QB unknown sleeper, maybe a JC guy or a transfer. I’d prefer a high school player to develop.

  15. Inyoface January 27, 2017 6:45 pm

Smart of Rolo to stack the QB position last year so this year we can recruit solely on the rest of the team.

  16. H-Man January 27, 2017 8:45 pm

I believe Miles Reed will choose Hawaii because Wazzu has 8 returning RBs and already has two RB commits for 2017. It wouldn’t make sense for Miles to be one of 11 RBs. Just my crystal ball, scientific wild-axx guess.

  17. burro sabio January 27, 2017 9:17 pm

I don’t like Deandre Morgan’s name for some reason, just can’t figure out why….

  18. Hodad January 28, 2017 6:23 am

I heard awhile back that Lois was being promoted to Associate AD or something. She’s terrific. Probably no other DFO in the country faced the challenges she did last season with that start of the Year schedule.
