Bowl Day: Middle Tennessee
A long season concludes today with the Warriors and Blue Raiders meeting in the Hawaii Bowl.
This also will mark the final college game for wideout Marcus Kemp, Steven Lakalaka, Kory Rasmussen and Rigo Sanchez, among many. And it also might be the final game for Samson Anguay. Never say never, though. Anguay has been around so long that Dick Tomey was his special-teams coach.
Sanchez will finish as the most accurate kicker in UH history. Well, sort of. Kenton “Magic” Chun was 4-of-4 in 2011 as the alternate to Tyler Hadden. Jason Elam actually played 4 1/3 seasons; he received a medical redshirt for 1990, when he was 5-of-5.
Here’s how Sanchez stacks up:
> Rigo Sanchez 20-23/87 percent
> Jason Elam 79-100/79 percent
> Dan Kelly 45-69/65.2 percent
> Justin Ayat 59-89/66.3 percent
> Peter Kim 4-14/28.6 percent
time to head to the stadium….
Win one for Hawaii.

Dru Brown looks off and the Hawaii defense is getting burned.
Wow, so far a total embarrassment and once again on National TV. At a Christmas party on the Mainland, only local guy. All of the other guests politely asked to change the channel. So now we’re watching the Bengals vs Texans game. The comments were brutal on how bad Hawaii looks, worst thing I had no comeback. Anyways, Mele Kalikimaka to all the Tsaikos and fellow lurkers!
Ugly? Looks ugly so. We look like how we played against Boise State. Yikes! If we don’t wake up and start playing better, it will be a nasty result on national television.
Do some good things, score and kick the kick off out of bounds. Need some consistency. Defense settling down. Hope we can make big stops. We did. Interception!
Looks like we’re balling! Keep it going, team.
Let’s hope Willie and his friends don’t change the channel and keep watching the Texans-Bengals game.
Willie boy,,so what’s the response now–silence. Silence is always good….
down 14-0 didn’t give up… team has a ton of heart
#18, found out Hawaii has come back hard. The Mainland people won’t let me change back to the Hawaii Bowl game! WTH!!! Hard to talk smack back without supporting data.
Slow start but engine huming now.
Looking good but D has to keep up the intensity.
Go Bows!!!
Has there been a change on the O-line? Who’s out? Saw Hensley in there.
Hope Willie can listen to BC on radio cause
Hawaii just opened the 2nd half stopping
Middle Tennessee on its first possession.
Hollis back in at tackle.
Way to go, Rodrigo!
One more made kick and Hawaii can lead the nation in something.
That is the best-designed fake punt I ever saw.
Bryan Smith, way to go.
One more quarter to go.
Their quarterback broken.
How many holding calls does the Oline have in this game!?
#23, I’m on the West Coast visiting, no radio. But NFL game just over, TV now on the Hawaii Bowl. Like the score!
Willie … no bachi! Turn the channel to CNN or MTV.
We could still lose this one. Discipline is needed at this time.
Go Warriors!!
Clyde, I’m watching and saw the last score with the PAT! No bachi. Giving the Mainland guys gas! The ones that badgered me are being very quite right now!!!
Lovin’ what I’m seeing. Just need to keep the heads down and the foot on the pedal. We got this!
I believe Diocemy St. Juste eclipsed the 1000 yard mark.
Excellent drive. Great blocking. No penalties. Nicely done.
Agree with Mark May right there. Only college bowl game on the flagship ESPN station and we’re playing the best we played all year.
Defense.
Way to finish Rainbow Warriors!
Congratulations Coach Rolo, Staff, and Players on a successful season. Imua Na Koa Anuenue.
Woolsey loses his starting job to brown but first guy defending his late hit on sideline and first guy to dump Gatorade on rolovich….exemplifies total team effort and selflessness
Awesome way to close the season. Congrats to the players, particularly the seniors, and coaching staff. It’s a great springboard into recruiting and NLI day. Hanapa‘a!
Congratulations to Coach Rolo and the Warriors! What a season! Didn’t have any expectations this season, all I wanted was to see the boys play hard and compete! And low and behold, we end the season with a big bowl win! Congrats Warriors! And like Rolo said, We’re Back! Merry Christmas everyone! What a great day!
Mahalo for the ticket Al…It was great to witness the resurrection of Pride Rock in person!
If there was ever a game to execute on offense and Defense this was it…National TV,no other games being played today equals great exposure for the program..
Guud Evening Tsaikos…Bootiful Evening!
Better with the taste of a GREAT WIN!
Boyz played hard and executed the game plan. Dru did a great job and the receivers showed what they can do. Seems Dru found the right time to get back to his “old self”. Diocemy,, what can one say. He’s been doing it all season. This is what the team can do when we got all the parts healthy.
Makes one wonder what next season will be like. Going to a long wait for the next season!
Mahalo seniors!
IMUA WARRIORS!
and to All…..MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Maddog50:
this win is for you who never, ever gave up on the coaches and players!
must admit, the first 8 1/2 minutes were embarrassingly horrible for UH and then it changed after the 2nd MTS TD — I could feel it sitting in the South end zone in the “brown” section — same coaches and players, but I could sense something different on the ensuing KO — players became more focused with every play — OL began to open holes in the DL which they couldn’t do in the first 8 1/2 minutes — defense toughened — offense and defense played as “ONE”
based on tonight’s game, I would be very disappointed if 2017’s team finished below 9 and 4.
so many young ones played and will be the “rock” next season and beyond
be proud Hawaii! I am.
now, to find a tv station that will show highlights of the game — Midori7 already programmed the TV to catch the ESPN replay at 11 pm HST/
Check out the post-game press conference, especially when Rolo and his “interpreter” take the dais:

Congratulations on a great turn-around season. GO BOWS!!
Emerging from the twilight zone tonight… I thought I saw a time warp Hawaii Bowl game with Colt Brennan, Bess, Grice-Mullins, Rivers wearing different numbers and white helmets. But if it wasn’t them playing, this bowl game UH team draws well deserved comparisons on both sides of the ball.
A-House-1 word “Proud!” I am personally responsible for ruining Christmas Eve around here as many friends and family members watched this game because of my overbearing support of the Warriors! My phone was blowing up with texts and calls the entire game and I had a crowd around my TV as I yelled and screamed! One word-Waaaaaarrrrrrrriiiioooors!!!!!
Have a Blessed and Joyous Christmas everyone!
What a way to complete a Rainbow Warrior season
Pride Rock indeed!
Couldn’t be more proud of how the Warriors played last night! Hopefully we can roll this momentum into recruiting and next season. I believe Rolo will do great things and hopefully he can bring the fans back to the stadium. Was disappointed in the turnout for the game but the fans who were there cheered loud.
is it surprising that there are only a few posts post game?
guess many, after a 6-year drought, chose not to post about UH football on Christmas Day — and, that’s fine as we all chose to celebrate many different things in many different ways.
Madddog50:
aware of your enthusiasm for Warrior football, I can only imagine how loud and happy you were once the “come-back” started and as you posted, “Proud!”
reading articles in the paper, it appears that Kory Rasmussen finally showed senior leadership as he gathered the defense and told his teammates, enough is enough and perhaps the spark of the turn-around after the MTSU 2nd TD
as MasaBoy stated after the MTSU TDs — “where is the player leadership” for 2016″? my response was “they have a player’s council”
as you are 5 hours ahead and well into celebrating Christmas day — best of health and happiness to you and your Family in 2017!!
I’m sure we will see you at another road game!
