As if that will mean anything next year…. In any case, congratulations to the Wahine for a hard fought season of ups and downs and injuries. We are so very proud of your effort, grit and determination through all kinds of diversity. Although it may not show in the end, we believed that you were final four caliber. The past is the past, we must look on to the future. May the roads you take be hopeful and bright! Godspeed in all your endeavors. May God bless you David and family for a speedy recovery.
And Mahalo Nui Loa Cindy for a job very well done and for putting up with the likes of us. I hope everyone has a safe Mele Kalikimaka e Haouli Maka Hiki Hou!
No wahines no fun. Congrats to Stanford anyway.
Hey, still top 20. Injuries kept them from being in the top 10. Excited about the new recruits. Who knows, they, along with the returning players might bring the Wahine back into the top 10.
Cindy, Does UH fully fund the beach team in terms of scholarships (6)?
Congrats for top 20 final. Life is often unfair. This was a very good team that should have reached the top 8 if the seeding was done properly. The exit on the 2nd round against 2nd ranked MN team does not take away from this fact. You did yourselves, the university, and the state proud. Thank you again for your hard work and dedication.
This final rankings outside of the top 4 is a joke. If you end up in the sweet sixteen you are automatically in the final top sixteen rankings. Hawaii gets beat by the #2 seed, #1 AVCA ranked team in the top 32 match and drops 5 spots? That drop wouldn’t happen during the regular season for sure, getting beat by the #1 ranked team. A team can have entering the post season, with a 15-13 record and get the right draw and win 3 matches and lose in the elite 8, the regional championship, and be ranked in the final rankings as a top 8 team with a 18-14 final season record. It can happen. That’s the mentality of final rankings. It should be taken like a grain of salt.
6.
Agreed. I mean say if UH lost to Minnesota @ Minnesota in 5 sets 15-13? Especially if Minnesota made it to the final four, they should be a top ten final ranking esp if Minnesota beats the other teams in more impressive fashion.
this season was a real tough one for the Wahine. with Kalei not being able to play her natural position because of her shoulder to Annie & Nikki suffering injuries (for Nikki injuries beginning & end) we lose four outstanding seniors. Nikki well damn, I don’t know now we will replace her & Annie, she was coming into her own on the outside. I wish she had more years to play. what does next year look like? any promising players coming in?
4. yes.
as for the poll, it’s 64 coaches voting and points fall where they fall. it is meaningless but since I have put up the poll every week, the final one got put up. Purely for informational purpose.
coaches looked at how the tournament went and voted accordingly.
but if you go back to 2011, the coaches voted Hawaii No. 5 despite the Wahine being eliminated in the regional semifinal at the SSC.
